SPOILERS! Scarlet & Violet Leaks Thread - Data/Mechanics

why would it be a legendary its LITERALLY based off of a mythical pokemon
*long drag of a cigarette*

because while japan always referred to that subset of pokemon as "phantom", the "mythical" moniker in the west was relatively new and lumped with "legendary" for the longest time
so the argument evolved over time

Where do necrozma and the ultra beasts fit into this

Where do necrozma and the ultra beasts fit into this
Necrozma is consistently referred to as Legendary

the UBs were very briefly Legendary in official materials and were lumped into them with the Dynamax Adventures, but that shifted to excluding them as their own group (ie: a legendary quiz specifically made sure to exclude them). Internally for both gens 7 & 8 they were in the "sublegend" category with the other sublegends (the assorted trios and quartets, the randos like heatran or cresselia), but they were removed in Gen 9.

Necrozma & the Cosmog line are pretty clearly Ultra Beasts (stats, origins, the cry) they just don't count as far as plot, marketing and beast balls are concerned. They are simply "Legendary".

Except in the TCG & certain spin offs where Necrozma or some of its forms get labeled as Ultra beast.

Simple!

This ain’t really the topic of the thread but back in the day when discussions like these were on the playgrounds, there were no “mythical.” The term legendary was much more loosely applied to things. The only sub-category was really just “pixies” for the base 100 pokemon like Mew. The term mythical is fairy new for English speakers, I think. I’ve been a long time Pokemon fan and that term was hardly used before like Gen 6.

They kinda came out after the distinction between what was legendary and what wasn’t was more defined by GF itself. Though I bet you if they were around when I was a kid, everyone would’ve called them legendaries. It was just a sort of catch-all for any rare, powerful Pokemon.

I feel like the discussion is going too of-the-rail as this thread is about datamined data and leaks. If you want to continue the whole Legendary debate, it’s better to bring it in non-spoiler Orange Island forums.

Sooner the DLC arrives, sooner discussion pertinent to this thread will happens, so best be prepared for datamined data when HOME update arrives a few days after.

The home update is today pretty sure.

To add to this, not only do the anime and manga explicitly refer to Necrozma as an Ultra Beast, but the latter even gives it its own UB name - UB: Black.

Don't you love it when official media can't agree on very basic classifications?

I think the anime they backtrack on it "we thought itw as a UB, but it wasnt!" which to be fair is also what the games did.
To an extent it's nice that they don't bother with any of this with Koraidon & Miraidon. They're just Legendary Paradox pokemon and this like, only comes up in marketing and internals. It's fine.

Yeah the maintenance starts within a few hours and the update proper will drop by the time it comes out of it. Though any data out of the Home datamine will likely already be covered in full by the proper datamine anyway.

Yup.

I believe (from what I’ve read) based on other game releases the release time for the game is 10/11 am in Japan (1/2 am UTC) - so 1-2 hours after the scheduled maintenance begins. Everyone cross your fingers and hope you’re an early stagger rather than late?

I am pretty sure I require government compensation for being subjected to countless "Is Phione a Legendary" and "Is Phione a Mythical"arguments over the past 17 years
Well now we have at least one legendary that can evolve, so GF do the right thing and have Phione evolve into Manaphy you cowards

They'll always be event/movie legendaries to me just to remind me how stupid event exclusivity is compared to being DLC.

We're at the time when updates usually start to go live and Home's entered maintenance so we're now in the "what exact time will the update drop?" phase for the next 3-4 hours

Enjoy either systematically checking your switch's software update function every few minutes or refreshing the forums constantly

Alrighty, we are at the "less than 1 hour" mark for the release of the game. So we'll prolly be getting full in game information for stats, typings, etc soon.

I meant to move all my transfer mons into Home before the maintenance so that I would have box space for the new mons, but I failed to realize when 0 UTC was like a dummy

Oh well, can't wait to see all the returnees and new lads in-game soon!

oh i've had so many friends complain about the minimap issue, that'll be a big boon

EXTREMELY funny that they didn't even put out a miniupdate to fix the text of those moves when they were supposed to do it in the update leading to VGC in the first place
