Shinies :(

<brag> In my Silver version I caught two shinies (Geodude and Staryu) on the same day. </brag>

But those are the only shinies I've ever encountered to date.

The general consensus on how chaining shinies works:

Every time you increase your current chain by 1, the chance you'll find a shiny goes up by x+1/8192. If you've chained, lets say, 50 in a row, you have a 50/8192 chance to find one, or around a one in 164 chance.

Also, for solo shinies:

Just because you've run into 8192 Pokemon doesn't mean you'll get a shiny. You could have goose egg, or 8192 shinies. The chance is 1/8192 for each separate Pokemon, it doesn't pool together (sans chaining).

So if the chain works as you say, technically, you can get to the point where you'd be encountering a shiny every time?

That would, of course be after you've chained 8192 pokemon. Quite frankly, it sounds impossible, and even more so impractical.

Well of course. It's statistically possible, though it'd get to the point where you'd have so high a probability that you'd lose the chain that it's rather unfathomable anyone could even break 150/200.

I realize that the odds apply seperately to each case and it doesn't pool together when you just cruise the map. However, the reason I started this thread was mostly to comfort myself in the face of unrelenting bad luck.

Thanks for helpin me out, I'll pokeradar whore myself some brilliantly shiney pokes...or goose egg.

Oh yes- Is there some way to increase prevelance of shinies via breeding? Say if you were to 'inbreed' like 10 generations of a certain poke...could it work?

I'm imagining a person turning the game on and legitimately running into 8000+ shinies... your friends would hate you and love you at the same time.

However, your math is still wrong. As you mentioned there's a 1/8192 chance that a SINGLE pokemon will be shiny. For you to get 8192 shinies, the odds are worse than winning the lottery in a plane crash.

I just thought I'd put a specific figure on that...

The probability that 8192 pokemon in a row are shiny is of the order of 1 in 3*10^32058 - which, as tiny as that probability is, it is still entirely possible. Somehow, I think that if you were to get that many in a row starting with the first one, you would likely go insane before you got the 8192nd one.

I just chained 45 slakoths and a wurmple pops out T_T, the video walkthrough guide of shine-chaining is very helpful though. I lost my cautiousness so far into the game >< gah...

I felt inadequate,

I found a shiny zubat while speed EV training in Fire Red.

However, it became the badass pink crobat to subdue my enemies with.

Since then, i've found a legitimate shiny magikarp (brave) while speed EV training in DP, and then a shiny lotad in emerald.

So i feel much better now.

I feel terrible. I haven't even come along a shiny in my game. Here are my most wanted shinies:

  • Electrike
  • Lotad
  • Elekid
  • Gulpin
  • Politoed
  • Drifloon
  • Kecleon
  • Regice
  • Regirock
Oh well

I caught a shiny lotad in Emerald while looking for rare candies to be picked up by my linoones. It was jolly with crap IVs though.

And a Zubat in Silver in the Slowpoke Cave.

You still want that Magikarp?

I've only run into a Shiny Swablu while Sp. Def training in Emerald (yes, near Meteor Falls, stupid I know).

That's the only one I've caught myself, but I've got a Hariyama (Modest, unfortunetly) from a trade.

I killed all the Red Gyarados, though. They wouldn't stay in the ball.

I ran into a shiny Geodude while EV training in Defense and I managed to catch it.Now I have four shinies, Rattata, Geodude, Deoxys, and Staraptor.

Shiny Machop?

I want a Machop that is shiny, how would I get this, I also want to fully train it so it would have to be from level 1. Can i breed shinies to make more?

Seriously, am I totally missing something about the Pokeradar method?

I read the guide or whatever, and tried a bunch in the past, and I think I only made it over 20 ONCE after trying a ton.

I just tried again, and as seems usual, I get a chain of like 8 meditites, resetting when grass isn't close, everything's fine, then I go to grass that seems to rustle the same as the last 8 times, 5 squares away, and it's a bidoof.

It wasn't at the edge of the grass, and I'm pretty sure it didn't move anything off the screen etc. Am I just missing something? o_O

I don't know why but I think the pokeradar method depends on how many times you activate the pokeradar because both my shiny Shellos and Floatzel were found when I started my streak

When it comes to shiny pokemon I've had moderate luck. To date I've come across the following:

- Shiny Tentacool x2 (Fire Red/Leaf Green)
- Shiny Loudred (Emerald)
- Shiny Dugtrio (Fire Red)
- Shiny Poliwag (Leaf Green)
- Shiny Onix (Fire Red)
- Shiny Bidoof (Pearl)

I found a shiny Bidoof while wandering around aimlessly. o-o

lol

Bidoof was the first, and last, shiny I've caught with the Pokeradar method so far. Put that sucker up on the GTS and was gone in a matter of minutes.
