In the break this core thread, Wash Rotom runs 88 speed evs. What are those for? And is Melmetal's av ev spread up to date? If yes, what are the specifications for the spread? If not, then what is the new spread and what are its specifications?

88 speed EVs allows Rotom-W to outpace Adamant Scizor, ontop of being faster than Adamant Choice Band Tyranitar. The Assault Vest Melmetal spread on the smogon analysis is up to date, and 12 Speed EVs enables it to outpace Toxapex, while also rounding out it's bulk and power to help it survive and simultaneously threaten the offensive threats it aims to blanket check, like Lele, Kyurem, Galarian Moltres, Dragapult, etc

In addition to the speed creeping Toxapex, I've checked lots of calcs and it seems the Attack guarantees the OHKO on offensive Landorus-T with Ice Punch after Stealth Rock:

-1 116 Atk Iron Fist Melmetal Ice Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Landorus-Therian: 280-332 (87.7 - 104%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

The bulk I'm less certain of - no one seems to know. My guess is that originally the spread was designed to avoid the 2HKO from Choice Specs Dragapult's Fire Blast, but later on the creator decided to move some HP to speed to creep Toxapex:

252 SpA Choice Specs Dragapult Fire Blast vs. 140 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Melmetal: 190-224 (42.6 - 50.2%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO
(This is what the spread would be if you moved the 12 Speed to HP)

for calm mind fini, is it better to run knock off, shadow ball, or taunt? I have other sweepers that work well against stall, but nothing that comes remotely close to beating a buzzwhole g-king core.

Taunt is generally the best option as the fourth move on CM Tapu Fini (alongside Calm Mind, Scald, and Draining Kiss), as it prevents Toxapex from using Haze to remove your Calm Mind boosts, while also preventing slower Pokemon from using status-inflicting moves like Toxic, recovery moves, and Teleport while facing Tapu Fini. The only alternative over Taunt I would also recommend on some teams is Substitute; Knock Off or Shadow Ball are generally not worth using on CM Fini.

Tapu Fini generally does well against Buzzwole, but it has to be wary of coming in on a potential Thunder Punch or Poison Jab. It is generally tough for CM Tapu Fini to get past Slowking-Galar however (though it is possible if your opponent gives you some free setup turns and you avoid Sludge Bomb poison, especially if Slowking-Galar's Assault Vest is removed), you should rely on its teammates to pave the way.

I favor older Pokemon from 151/Kanto region and have BD atm. I pretty much just started playing but I want to make a sorta competitive team at least eventually. My current team is random ones I like but I'm reading more about OU and viable comps. Also, I don't mind evolved forms of the original ones e.g. Blissey/Magnezone.

Current team:

Alakazam

Crobat

Gengar

Golduck

Gyrados

Blissey

Possible others I want:

Scizor

Zapdos

Clefable

Dragonite

Magnezone

Slowbro

Mew

Nidoking

Possibly others?

BDSP discussion goes here, but also these subforums are meant for Pokemon Showdown play, not limited in-game cartridge competitive play.

is phys tank fire blast chomp a good set, and if so what is the best EV spread for it? I know certain phys def sets utilize flamethrower, but I need to do enough damage to corv to make it uncomfortable.

It’s ok, but generally speaking Tank LandoT is a lot more common right now while SD Chomp is the most common set there. Fire Blast and Flamethrower are interchangeable, but keep in mind that Fire Blast only has 4 PP into Corv

If you want to pressure metal birb with fire blast Chomp, then you need 184 SpA evs to two shot it after stealth rock. You can then max out hp and dump the rest into defense. Note that you will need sr chip on metal birb otherwise fire blast won't two shot

At this point you’re compromising almost all of Garchomp’s other niches while banking on hitting twice, SR being up prior to switch-in somehow, and Corviknight not being fully SDef. It is never worth it. The best way to pressure Corviknight with Garchomp is running Swords Dance and Leftovers, ideally with Fire Fang, as Body Press hardly chips you as you set-up all over it.

Yeah that's a good point

Now that you mention it, does Corviknight use a lot of spdef now? Didn't it go like 88 or 92 spdef evs? What changed that its running fully spdef now?

What archetypes does demon mew fit best on I’m trying to build around it

Balance as a lategame wincon or offensive teams with Pokemon who are able to wear down its counters in Weavile and Tyranitar, when Mew is Body Press-less. Toxapex with T-Spikes / Baneful Bunker or even Flame Body Heatran can help against such Pokemon like Weavile. Toxapex and Heatran can also cripple other Pokemon for Mew, which Mew has trouble dealing with such as Blacephalon, Dragapult, and Gengar with spreading status.

Will :gastrodon:, :slowking: or :mandibuzz: be in OU now without kyurem?

I don't think they will. Gastrodon is still hard to justify over another bulky Water type in Balance teams because of its lack of utility or pivoting options and will probably only remain a fat/stall teams mon. Mandibuzz still have the same issues as before which are that it relies a lot on keeping its Boots while needing to check Knock Off users like Kartana, and it gets pressured by a lot of common offensive threats like Tapu Lele, Tapu Koko, Urshifu-R, Weavile... and even by Pokemon like Tapu Fini who can come for free against it if it doesn't U-turn. Slowking is probably the easiest one to use in this list, but it's still a Specially defensive wall who can't check Dragapult and a Bulky Water type who has a hard time coming in against Urshifu-R. Future Sight is a cool tool, but I think Slowbro, who is better at checking physical threats like Urshifu-R, would still be a better choice in most teams.

As they arent that splashable like other Pokemon and only have to fill out 1 role in a team, which they have already stiff competition by other Pokemon I don't think this will happen. They're just too niche at the moment and arent that splashable. However I think Gastrodon does great on bulkier teams like balance-ish archetypes alongside Pokemon which helps it to check Grass-types as example.
