Resource Simple Questions, Simple Answers Thread

I guess this doesn't qualify as a simple question, but I'm curious what people think the strongest team is in the current meta. I'd say BO ferro + tran.

I think those Ferro + Tran teams really struggle against a lot of current "cheese". It really feels like the best way to win games right now is trying to get a good matchup against that style with the more "extreme" playstyles like stall and HO, at least talking from a ladder perspective.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask or not, but I remember seeing a particular tournament game that featured a core with Specs Eruption Heatran and Scarf Latios within the last couple weeks leading up to the end of SPL, but I can't seem to find it again after browsing through several weeks' worth of SPL replays. Somebody I know was specifically looking for a good Specs Heatran team and that team in particular stood out to me for a long time (enough to where I tried running something similar on the ladder), but I don't want to take credit for someone else's amazing teambuilding. Would someone happen to know whose team this is? If you have the replay as well, I'd greatly appreciate it!

I don't know the exact EV spreads as well as a handful of the moves some of these mons were running, but this team features all of the mons and I specifically remember calcing Adamant Urshifu-R in particular as well based on that replay.

Are there any important 2hko or 1hko benchmarks that Adamant scarf Kartana reaches that Jolly scarf Kartana can't reach?
adamant and jolly are usually used for speed benchmarks.
Jolly can outspeed all scarfers 108 speed and under, while adamant outspeeds scarfers 94 speed and lower. (jolly hitting 522 speed and adamant hitting 475.5)
If for some reason you dont need the speed and just want maximum power, adamant is better. Most of the time though, jolly is better
i dont know any calcs for jolly vs adamant off of the top of my head, but ill tell you when i find some.

That's the team Eternal Spirit used in the finals of Smogon Tour Playoffs last year: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen8ou-565052

What “cheese” are you referring to? Rain? Sun? Hail? That Choice Spam team?

What EV spreads can balloon heatran run and what mons are good partners for it?
Usually runs max speed and max satk nowadays, but you can see modest sets or sets with only speed for slow LandoT or only CB Tar on occasion.

Any hard hitting physical attacker pairs well generally. Especially does well with pivots and Grounds

What EV spreads can balloon heatran run and what mons are good partners for it?
Heatran @ Air Balloon
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Flash Cannon / Stealth Rock
- Stealth Rock / Taunt
good partners are flying types, strong physical breakers, and pivots to get Tran in on things it threatens out.

What changed in the current metagame to make Celesteela worse than it was in Gen 7, where it was a top tier threat?

It was mostly Corviknight being much better in nearly every single way. There could be some other factors but this is definitely one of them

What are some signs a tapu fini is scarfed

The most obvious one is if it doesn't have lefties. That is pretty much a dead giveaway to the set Fini runs so if you can get rocks up, forcing it to switch in would reveal if it's scarf or not

corv is by far the best of all of the steel birbs now because of its higher HP so better overall bulk. Corv also outclasses it in utility moves because it gets stuff like roost, defog, bulk up, taunt, u-turn, and more, while celesteela has...
leech seed.

Offensively steela has been outclassed by a lot as a breaker. Nihilego outclasses it for meteor beam sweep shenanigans, magnezone and Tran outclass it as offensive steel types, and Zap or Thundy-T outclasses it as a flying type breaker. Not a ton changed for celesteela in terms of the metagame, but because its so outclassed in anything but its autotomize weakness policy set, it doesn't get a ton of usage.

Nihilego outclasses it for meteor beam sweep shenanigans
To add on to this, Nihilego doesn't completely outclass it. Steela has a niche because of its greater bulk and ease of setup, but it usually falls short because of its coverage. Steela usually uses air slash, meteor beam, flamethrower, autotomize. Nihilego can run mbeam, tbolt, grass knot, sludge wave, dgleam, power gem, and psychic.
Nihilego usually outclasses it, but not ALWAYS.

I've noticed that sometimes sitrus berries activate on belly drum, but sometimes it doesn't, and requires an extra hit. why?
Rounding. Since Belly Drum lowers your HP by 1/2 your max health, if your max health doesn't divide evenly by two (that is to say, if your HP is odd) Belly Drum will leave you just one hit point above half when used from full health, since Pokemon rounds down in most cases.
