Skymin Discussion Thread

I didn't say Shaymin was a Shaymin counter. I implied it was a Shaymin revenge killer. 90% of Yanmegas carry Protect, then putting its Speed above Shaymin's Speed and allows it to OHKO.

Like all the discussion that's led up to now-- you don't need perfect counters and you can't have them for everything. IF an enemy yanmega gets in on a predicted seed flare, shaymin will have to jet. If Scarf mence/gengar comes in on earth power, shaymin's got a problem. You have to be able to play your way around these things.

While Yanmega OHKO's with HP Ground? Not really.

Seeing some recent success with Choice Scarf Togekiss on Shoddy, I'm really anticipating using Skymin. <3

I don't have much of opinion on wheter Shaymin-S should be OU or Uberbut people should be careful with listing OU counters for Shaymin-S. Things like Darkrai and Ho-oh have things that can stop then in OU, that doesn't mean they should be OU.

We even played with Garchomp for a few months before we might of thought it should be Uber. We should be careful to see that we aren't just playing around a pokemon that might be Uber and trying to fit it in OU where it may not belong.

Or inversely I'd say, we shouldn't try to use the process of finding or not finding "counters" in OU to decide if something is Uber or not.

IE, just because Ho-oh has counters doesn't mean it's OU, but just because shaymin doesn't have clear counters doesn't mean its uber. IE, I think we should give it a shot.

Well, comparing Skymin to Darkrai, Skymin is probably more superior already... All Darkrai has is 15 more special attack and Dark Void (which can only be used to put one to sleep) and the ability is useless if the foe switches out the sleeper.

In contrary, just lose 15 special attack, it gains 2 speed, which outspeeds Weavile, Darkrai, Dugtrio, etc. MANY things. With Serene Grace, which is active at all time (besides when Pinsir/Rampardos are on the field or Gastro Acid is used, which happens VERY RARELY)... The ability, paired up with a 180-power move with 80% -2 stage of S.Defense and a STAB (105 power) with 60% Flinch rate. Now it gets Earth Power to take down Heatrans other Steels... Plus the Hidden Power available to take down things like Dragonite (ice)... This thing already towers Darkrai.

And Darkrai's Uber...

67.5%, actually. :P

Anyways, is Skymin 100% sure to be allowed on Shoddy?

Articuno, much?

Takes 26% from Choice Specs Seed Flare... even with Stealth Rocks up, there is a slim chance you can win.

If you have a Rapid Spinner, or if you're like me and run Fake Out Pursuit Weavile, preventing the set up of Stealth Rock most of the time, you can play the game rocks free... and Articuno can switch in again and again and again...

Oi.
Stealth Rock weak. Weak to a few of the most common attacking types in the game, including a x4 Ice weak, compared to Darkrai's Fighting and Bug weaks. Lesser defenses, no access to NASTY PLOT, which Darkrai can easily use in conjunction with Dark Void. Void + Plot = This is gonna hurt. Darkrai only needs 2 moves for nigh perfect coverage using his STAB, Shaymin needs around 4.

And you were saying something about Skymin>Darkrai?

My thoughts exactly. Lets not forget that Darkrai´s defenses are each 15 points higher, except in HP of course.

One of the few pokemon that can actually counter the set without fear. Also, the overcentralizing argument could be countered by the fact that a Sp.Def Ariticuno can still counter a few things and live to Roost off the damage. Ice is a great attacking type, too, so if Stealth Rocks get tested and deemed game-breaking, Articuno is looking like one of the top counters.

What they hey. Consider that Tyranitar's only 100% counters are things like Hitmontop and Hariyama, being forced to use Articuno or Regice doesn't seem to bad. Though keeping in mind that a 100% counter existing (or not) doesn't push the argument one way or the other anyway. >.>

It's not like liquid ooze was the main feature of Tentacruel's popularity. Clear Body will work fine. If anything, it could create a cool guessing game between shaymin and tenta as to whether it should seed flare or leech seed xD
Clear Body offers no advantage except for the Swords Dancer, though. And forget Leech Seed, if I see a Tentacruel with Skymin, I'm either going to attack it if it's in kill range, or switch out because Ice Beam or Sludge Bomb will both hurt.

just max hp,and max special defense

rest
ice punch/curse
sleep talk
iron head

The set looks good, although I would use some attack other than Iron Head. STAB is nice, but steel sucks and Registeel basically NEEDS SE hits to do any significant damage. Earthquake could hit Magnezone and Heatran on the switch and pairs nicely with Ice Punch. So I guess that means:

Registeel@Leftovers
Careful; 252 HP, 120 Atk, 136 Sp.Def

Rest
Ice Punch
Sleep Talk
Earthquake

How does that look?

I think that since it can now be tested (on official at least) we can finally see if it's uber. Personally, after using one for a while, I don't think it is as it is easily worn down and cannot sweep very well.

That is so true! My phsical wall mence can break it's sub and then let someone else to kill it. Seems like it needs hp ice after all.
