OU Slowking

Someone mentioned wanting a Physically defensive set with leftovers and an AV set... The para shuffling set is basically the only way Slowking is going to distinguish itself physically due to Dtail.

Well, we realized that Slowbro's access to Thunder Wave makes it as good at deterring set up as Slowking's Dragon Tail. With that, physically defensive Slowking is pretty inferior and outclassed. So, the only set should be Assault Vest. Sorry about the trouble.

Budget Cuts :/

Removed the para shuffling set. Added a short note in Other Options instead.

As it is 1 AM and I might've deleted something important/I like archiving unimportant garbage, I'm leaving that pastebin just in case.

I realize Dragon Tail isn't there primarily for the damage but are you really losing anything by going Sassy nature? Its not like Slowking is gonna be out speeding many things even with a neutral nature and the extra damage on DTail, however small, is always nice.

Calm weakens Foul Play, though aside from that the only one I can think of is neutral Speed Ferrothorn. I don't think those realistically exist, though.

Go ahead and slash Sassy.

QC 1/4

I would add to the overview as a con that Slowking is required to switch out in order to regain health—this can be taken advantage of in a number of ways by a smart opponent.

Other than that this looks great. Let's see this written up.

QC 3/4

Alright, I'll start writing this up in about 14 hours, have some classes in between now and my next free time set. Expect it to be done by midday tomorrow.

A tad rough (probably more than a tad) but the first written draft is now completed. Just like everything I do, it was behind schedule.

The Checks and Counters section is in the improper format. This is what it's supposed to look like:

**Knock Off Users**: (Description)

**Pursuit Users**: (Description)

**Strong Physical Attackers**: (Description)

etc.

Yeah, so overview needs to be reworked a bit. It doesn't make much sense to say that Slowking faces competition from Slowbro when Slowking is a better Assault Vest Pokemon than Slowbro. Also, you can't talk about the changes from the previous generation, as these analyses are supposed to be timeless and still accurate even when XY is a past generation. These are generally the things that need to be addressed in an overview: Stats, Abilities, Movepool, Typing, Niche, Competition.

So, you know, talk about special bulk, somewhat disappointing physical bulk, regenerator, wide movepool and scald and stuff, mixed bag with defensive typing, how it is effective since it is quite a niche Pokemon, and then cons in the form of other Pokemon that often eclipse.
The moves for this set are fairly self-explanatory.
Just take this sentence out, if they're reading the explanation, chances are it's not self-explanatory for them, and it doesn't add anything. And this is just my personal thing, but it really bothers me when the moves aren't explained in the other they appear in in the moveset.

Other moveset stuff, I think Psychic > Psyshock because Mega Venusaur is usually physically defensive, and Psyshock doesn't hurt Clefable enough anyway. And stress that Ice Beam hits Dragon-types harder. Gliscor's not that relevant, but it hates Scald anyway.
He can also scout most special attackers due to this major special bulk, as Choice specs Thunder Bolt latios can barely 2hko Slowking.
This example is pointless, Specs Latios isn't a thing.
Slowking does have the ability to take some physical and mixed attackers, mainly weaker ones like Gliscor and ones he resists, such as Gyarados and Infernape.
Gliscor isn't really a physical attacker, and regular Gyarados and Infernape aren't relevant. I wouldn't really bother with physical attackers beyond "Watch out for Pursuit trappers" and stuff because Slowking is not equipped to take them on. Also make a mention of Regenerator pivoting.
Electric and bug pokemon can U-turn out on Slowking and pokemon like Scizor can constantly check Slowking, ruining any chance of your team maintaining momentum.
*sees Fire Blast and raises eyebrows* Also, make sure to state Volt Switch.
And with the massive attack move pool, the two can threaten the majority of the meta outside Mega Venusaur, Bisharp and Mega Scizor.
Weird sentence, reword or remove.

And yeah, reformat Checks and Counters. Tag me when you've done these, and I'll stamp it.

Swamp Link

I did update all except the part

Electric and bug pokemon can U-turn out on Slowking and pokemon like Scizor can constantly check Slowking, ruining any chance of your team maintaining momentum.

As I did mention Scizor checked Slowking, which is true. Slowking is still much slower than Scizor so Scizor will be able to check Slowking.

Other than that, I did work on the Counter/Check section a bit, but a bit of guidance would be helpful.

Ajwf

Coupled with Slowking's low bulk, Slowbro is generally more popular due to his physical bulk and Slowking can even be eclipsed by Slowbro's assault vest set.
It's odd to say that it has low bulk and that Slowking can be eclipsed by Slowbro's Assault Vest set when Slowbro's analysis doesn't have Assault Vest as a main set. I know you mean physical bulk, so just reword this to say that Slowbro is more popular than Slowking for his greater physical bulk.

I said this previously, but I think Psychic is better than Psyshock because Mega Venusaur is usually physically defensive, and Psyshock doesn't hurt Clefable anyway.

For Checks and Counters, you could split it into Electric-types, Dark-types, and strong physical attackers. It should be easy to figure out how to format it. Let me know when you've done this and I'll stamp it, this looks pretty good.

Swamp Link I don't know if it's to your liking but I adjusted it again. I adjusted that whole quote, put psychic over psyshock (after having used latias the past few weeks, I agree... Find something else to take chansey). The Check/Counter list was arranged as you said and some of it reworded.

Ajwf checks and counters should be formatted like this:
**Status**: Being a physical sweeper, Lucario is particularly vulnerable to paralysis and burn, which can prematurely end its sweep attempts and put it out of action for the remainder of the game. Examples include Prankster status users, such as Klefki and Sableye. Scald users such as Suicune and Keldeo can also prove to be troublesome in this regard.

**Revenge Killers**: Bulky offensive threats that aren't felled by Lucario's +2 Extreme Speed can be good checks to it. Some examples of this include Terrakion, Garchomp, and Mega Manectric, which can all take Lucario's boosted priority attacks and proceed to KO it.

**Bulky Tanks**: Lucario also has a number of good defensive checks and counters. Zapdos, Mega Venusaur, and Slowbro can all take Lucario's attacks by virtue of their excellent bulk and typing. Additional examples of this include Quagsire, which has access to Unaware; Gyarados and Landorus-T, which have Intimidate; and Conkeldurr.
So in your case you would make three subsections of Electric-types, Dark-types, and strong physical attackers.

Swamp Link I think I've got it, I'm just not sure what to say for physical attackers since that's basically half the tier. I'm not sure Thundy-i is worth mentioning as Slowking can really deal some harm to it with ice beam and it isn't running volt switch. Yeah general badness for Slowking but it's not nearly as good vs Slowking as Rotom-w.

idk if power gem is worthy of the main slash anymore. char y is becoming increasingly less relevant, to the point where dedicating an entire moveslot to handling it isn't really worth it. i'd probably move it to the last slash, and move psychic down to the last slot. dtail should probably be alone because getting set up on by char x is pretty damn detrimental, and phazing is useful in general vs stuff like manaphy that you can't actually deal with via attacking.

qc 4/4

Affirming the above.

Checks and counters look pretty good, there's just some small adjustments to make, so copy and paste the below.

**Electric-types**: Electric attacks are generally unkind to Slowking. Rotom-Wash can pivot in and out of Slowking with relative ease and is not bothered by anything Slowking does. Other volt switch users like Mega Ampharos and Mega Manectric fear little Slowking does and can steal momentum away with Volt Switch.

**Dark-types**: Dark type attacks are a constant issue for Slowking. Slowking rarely survives any physical dark hits and any Knock Offs that it does survive will remove the Assault Vest, making Pokemon such as Landorus that Slowking would normally counter a difficult matchup. Slowking is also subject to pursuit traps by Bisharp and Tyranitar, and this is perhaps the easiest ways to get rid of Slowking.

**Strong Physical Attackers**: Many prominent physical attackers such as Mega Scizor, Azumarill, or Mega Mawile, along with many others, can force out or KO Slowking.

i've used scald / psyshock / status move or fire move or dragon tail / slack off and it's perfectly viable. unlike slowbro, you actually can wall specs keldeo reliably, even with a physically defensive inclined spread, which is huge. similarly, you fare better against stuff like latias and co. definitely worth a set add.

not really sure on the order. i've never found myself able to particularly justify AV slowking on a team.. it seems really niche. checking zard-y is cool i guess, but solar beam still does a decent chuck and you lose 100% reliable recovery. regen sometimes just isn't enough. kinda wanna say to put lefties first. AV way far too overhyped itt
