Smogon Simple Questions Thread

does getting banned reset progress towards the tiering contributor badge? i did 2 suspects in a tier before getting banned a while ago, then 2 more in that same tier afterwards, but i was told i wasn't eligible for tc. i assumed my progress was reset because i was banned so i didn't think much of it, but i mentioned it in passing to someone today and they said that shouldn't have reset my progress. was this person wrong?

Why am I sometimes unable to reply at times? I click the reply button and the "Oops! We ran into some problems. The requested page could not be found." error shows up. Why is that?

In tiers where Mega Evolutions are available, what is the logic behind not simply banning the mega stones of banned Mega Evolutions? From what I understand, the way we currently implement Mega Evolution Bans are a Pokemon + Mega Stone ban (Ex: Gengar cannot hold Gengarite), which is effectively a complex ban.

This is typically a wall I hit when discussing Smogon's adversity to Complex Bans, seems like a very low impact way to align the way we tier megas more in line with the way current tiering policy is structured.

At one point, suspects and announcements referred to the Stones as being banned. https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/np-oras-ou-suspect-process-round-7-diamonds-read-post-226-banned.3585600/ https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/np-sm-ou-suspect-process-round-4-the-robots-metagrossite-banned.3602385/
However, when implemented, the Mega Pokemon got banned. https://github.com/smogon/pokemon-showdown/commit/74096adda8c724ffd1703f89eaa2061c63e54432 (interesting fact: the suspect ladder for this actually did have metagrossite banned! https://github.com/smogon/pokemon-showdown/pull/3488) (also i cba to find the one for sableye to see if it was the same)
This is likely because it feels cleaner to mark a Pokemon as being Uber than to add an item to a banlist.
So, the change in wording from banning Stones to banning Megas was to align with how it is coded.

Hi! I'm playing a random Dualocke with my friends and we wanted to pit our teams against each other. The problem is, I can't find a way to do this, at least not with 5th gen.

Hello Smogon! I was wondering where to put a usage stats spreadsheet I've been working on. Specifically it has tools for importing Pokepaste links into the correct data format. I have an SV version and a Champs version. The problem is, I don't think it's big enough or programming-y enough to be a technical project. So what forum do I put this and do I need approval? Thanks!

Why is general trolling and other general bad behavior (specifically on ladder) allowed on Showdown? It can be really miserable to deal with especially if you are already having a bad day. I've also had instances were my opponents have said some pretty rude and horrid shit to me, and it has been waved away because its just shittalking on ladder and hence viewed as not serious enough.

It is not allowed according to our rules. If you feel like staff is handling your reports poorly, feel free to reach out to me in PMs. You can also create an "Other" help ticket to follow up on any report you think wasn't handled properly. (If you haven't been reporting this behavior, please do; you can report users by clicking their name -> ... -> "Report" or type /report in any chat.)

Has a bot that posts suspects/bans etc to Reddit been considered? There are a lot of players who don't really use the forums but do use r/Stunfisk.
Iirc to have control over it this would require someone to also be a moderator on r/stunfisk, which I think some people here are or have the access to do so maybe?? I know the original owners and mods of the subreddit are long gone, and dealing with the general global moderation rules of reddit is just a headache, since you couldn't just be a mod only to host a bot.

At least, that was the case when we looked into it WAY back in the day, and going through the rigmarole of getting reddit credentials just to host a bot was annoying, but idk it's 2026 now maybe things have smoothed out a bit. If someone was so inclined they could probably just ask the current mods to host one and link it up tbh.

Not a bad suggestion just there's probably more red tape in the way than you'd expect.

I have been reporting it, most of what I refer to is like pretty tame stuff like saying easy noob after a game or smth like why do we have to deal with this. That being said I remember one bo3 game specifically (am a vgc player) where my opponent unprompted the whole bo3 saying your a pagan, your gunna go to hell, your gunna burn for the shit you have done, was in my dms afterwards type shit, and the admin was like here is a warning *wags finger* don't do that again! I'm only asking now cause I was playing chess and had an opponent who was being toxic in chat, and I could just report them and it stopped, didn't have to jump through all these hoops just to get a message 10 mins later saying 'this wasn't serious enough to warrant any action.'

From the logs on your main account, you made 6 reports (before these last two you bring up here), 4 resulted in locks and 1 was a warning. While I agree with you that these two last ones could have been a warn instead of nothing, and a lock instead of a warn, respectively, it seems unfair that you are claiming that in Showdown we allow "general trolling and other general bad behavior". All your reports were heard, reviewed, and in almost all instances a punishment was applied.
Furthermore, this is a thread for Smogon questions and answers, Pokemon Showdown has its own. An administrator already suggested you the correct place to discuss unfair results on reports, and even opened his DMs to you, so please I request you to drop the matter here, as it's not the place for it.
