Staraptor (Life Orb)

You're probably right. I just wanted to demonstrate that it breaks the FWG cores so I chose Celebi as the Grass even though its obvious nothing barring Tangrowth has a good chance at living. I'll wait for another to weigh in on it before I remove them though.

Hey, Rhys. I think I can write this up. I don't have anything to do at the moment. In fact, I've taken the liberty to make a perquisite analysis while thinking about it. Make changes, do whatever you want with it.

[SET COMMENTS]

At times, the raw power of Staraptor’s choice sets may fall short due to numerous resistances to a single attack, sometimes enforcing the possibility of set up, or the risk of a hard hit on a teammate. With Life Orb, however, Staraptor trades some survivability in exchange for the freedom to switch attacks, along with power output that rivals even that of the Choice Band set. With this freedom, Staraptor can abuse his ridiculously powerful attacks on a wider range of Pokemon and come up top. When Staraptor is at low health, simply use Roost to alleviate damage and continue rampage.

Like any of its other sets, Brave Bird and Close Combat are givens for Life Orb Staraptor due to their obnoxious power in addition to the great coverage behind just these two moves. Return is the main option for the third slot due to consistent, reliable damage and is boosted by STAB, making it a strong option to pick off frail and weakened enemies. Roost is also given a slot to compensate for the recoil and residual damage Staraptor may suffer from residual damage, such as recoil and Stealth Rock.

[TEAMMATES AND ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Essentially, the choice of an Adamant or Jolly nature is up to the user’s preference. Whereas a Jolly Nature enables Staraptor to outspeed and possibly come up top against positive base 100’s such as Zapdos and Jirachi, an Adamant nature can be used for raw offense. A Jolly nature is preferred to due to Staraptor already scoring many notable KOs with this nature. To illustrate the effectiveness of Life Orb Staraptor, some calculations assuming a Jolly nature are listed below:

Damage Calculations

Jolly Life Orb Brave Bird vs 252 HP / 220 Def Bold Celebi: 88.1% - 104%

Jolly Life Orb Brave Bird vs 232 HP/ 0 Def Neutral Celebi: 120.3% - 141.9%

-1 Jolly Life Orb Brave Bird vs 156 HP / 72 Def Neutral Gyarados: 47% - 55.4%

-1 Jolly Life Orb Brave Bird vs 248 HP / 248 Def Impish Gyarados: 34.4% - 40.7%

Jolly Life Orb Brave Bird vs 4 HP / 0 Def Neutral Suicune: 62.6% - 74%

Jolly Life Orb Brave Bird vs 252 HP / 252 Def Bold Suicune: 38.9% - 46%

Jolly Life Orb Brave Bird vs 240 HP / 216 Def Relaxed Swampert: 48.1% - 56.9%

Jolly Life Orb Brave Bird vs 252 HP / 252 Def Bold Vaporeon: 51.1% - 60.3%

Jolly Life Orb Brave Bird vs 252 HP / 0 Def Neutral Gliscor: 56.2% - 66.4%

Jolly Life Orb Close Combat vs 252 HP / 252 Def Bold Blissey: 81.5% - 96.1%

Jolly Life Orb Close Combat vs 0 HP / 24 Def Neutral Empoleon: 113% - 133.1%

Jolly Life Orb Close Combat vs 252 HP / 160 Def Neutral Empoleon: 81.2% - 95.7%

Jolly Life Orb Close Combat vs 4 HP / 0 Def Neutral Heatran: 94.7% - 111.5%

Jolly Life Orb Close Combat vs 252 HP / 0 Def Neutral Heatran: 79.3% - 93.3%

Jolly Life Orb Close Combat vs 4 HP 0 Def Neutral Jirachi: 46.8% - 55.3%

As like the Choice Band set, not a lot of Pokemon can safely switch in Staraptor due to the pure power of Staraptor’s moves boosted by Life Orb. In fact, since Life Orb Staraptor can hit a wider margin of opponents and switch attacks should he come upon a resist, no Pokemon can go unscathed except for a select few. Even Bulky Waters such as Swampert and Vaporeon are not safe since even Jolly natured Life Orb Staraptor has a chance of a 2HKO with Brave Bird. Only the Rotom Appliances resist Staraptor’s main moves, in addition to crippling him with Thunderbolt, Discharge, and Will-o-Wisp. Jirachi, Bronzong, and Metagross also has a chance of surviving Close Combat if not in KO range and can use their choice of move to remove Staraptor. Staraptor should also precaution Choice Scarfed Pokemon.

Life Orb Starmie is the number one teammate for Life Orb Staraptor. In addition to having a great offensive and defensive partnership with it, Starmie can also remove Staraptor’s Stealth Rock weakness and eliminate most of Staraptor’s counters with a powerful Hydro Pump. Forretress is also another Rapid Spinner who, while it doesn’t counter anything significant, can set up entry hazards in the face of physically defensive Pokemon who might cause Staraptor some trouble. Speaking of entry hazards, the above calculations may lead to OHKOs and 2HKOs with Stealth Rock or a single layer of Spikes, so having a team member who can lay down these hazards makes Staraptor’s sweeping easier.

Use the following calculations:

Jolly Life Orb Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 220 Def Bold Celebi: 88.1% - 104%

Jolly Life Orb Brave Bird vs. 240 HP / 216 Def Relaxed Swampert: 48.1% - 56.9%

Jolly Life Orb Brave Bird vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Neutral Suicune: 62.6% - 74%

Jolly Life Orb Brave Bird vs. 188 HP / 252 Def Bold Vaporeon: 52.9% - 62.5%

Jolly Life Orb Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Neutral Gliscor: 56.2% - 66.4%

Jolly Life Orb Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Bold Blissey: 81.5% - 96.1%

Jolly Life Orb Close Combat vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Neutral Heatran: 94.7% - 111.5%

Jolly Life Orb Close Combat vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Neutral Jirachi: 46.8% - 55.3%

This is enough in my opinion. I would also like you to mention if SR or additional entry hazard support is needed for scoring certain OHKOs / 2HKOs on certain individuals.

It'd be best to add Setsuna's calculations in a copy-paste over the "Damage Calculations" section in the analysis. IMO, it should be obvious Staraptor already beats some of the threats I pasted in the perquisite analysis.

Oh, and also, Staraptor deserves better than Forretress (lol, setup bait and Asking-for-Breloom), imo. Replace the perquisite sentences with the sentences in Bold, if you want.

When Staraptor is at low health, simply use Roost to alleviate damage and continue rampage The game plan is relatively basic; Staraptor should shred through the opposing team as much as he can, and if at low health, use Roost to alleviate damage and continue the rampage

If you could add the analysis to the OP, that'd be awesome for the GP guys. PM them if you can.

Trick + Iron Ball Metagross seems like a cool teammate as it takes out Rotom- a and Skarmory which can wall Staraptor as does a Mixed Tyranitar as it takes out the same threats though the additional damage from Sandstorm is a bummer.

General issues abound with having a lot of unnecessary fluff here and there. Also, innumerable of the apostrophes were incorrect. Make sure that the ' apostrophe is used, not the ’ curly one. Other than that, I made a ton of prose fixes across the board. It wasn't too bad, though, so I think it should be ready after this proofread is implemented.

Cheers.
