Strategies for UU pokemon to use in OU battles - All-out discussion thread

Banette @ Choice Band
Adamant
Insomnia
252 Atk / 244 Spe / 14 HP
- Shadow Claw
- Shadow Sneak
- Will-o-Wisp
- Trick

Strategy behind it:

This is supposed to be used as your lead, and especifically to beat the common leads. Bronzong can't put you to sleep or Explode on you- you can Trick your Band the turn it Stealth Rock so it's essentially useless, and you can also hit it with Shadow Claw for the 3HKO (but Shadow Claw has a high crit rate, so it may turn out into a surprise 2HKO). Shadow Sneak OHKO's Gengar 100% of the time. Will-o-Wisp is your answer to Gyarados, and you're actually faster than BulkyDos (reaching 227 Speed with that spread). You're faster than Tyranitar too, and you can Wisp it, since switching out means getting hit by Pursuit. Late game, besides having a very powerful priority move, you can also Trick your CB into Blissey or anything else that wouldn't really like it.

Risk/Reward:

As with every other Trick user, you can always mispredict and give your item to something that would like it. You're basically walled by Normal-types, too, but not all of them like a Will-o-Wisp, and those who don't mind it won't really like CB. You just need to predict well [lolol but isn't that what Pokémon is about?]

What its niche is in an OU team:

A nice response to many common leads- and it doesn't become useless later, since Banette has three free switch-ins: Fighting attacks, Normal attacks, and Sleep-inducing moves. That gives you some nice opportunities to come in and do your devious work. Insomnia is a pretty good trait that not many others have access to- and in a metagame where you need a sleep absorber, nothing cooler than not having to rely on Sleep Talk.

Besides, it's Banette. It's just so awesome.

Ugh, sorry I didn't keep up with this thread at all yesterday, I was out all day.

Hmm, this set seems interesting. I've tried something like this before, except I used Frisk back when sleeper leads weren't so prevalent. Sucker Punch will seriously serve you much better than Shadow Sneak though. If you're using it to OHKO Gengar, then Sucker Punch can do that too, except you're not totally walled by Normals. If Gengar is stupid enough to try and Hypnosis you (though it won't even work), you can just Shadow Claw him while he's doing that. If he tries to attack, you just Sucker Punch and get a guaranteed OHKO. Since this set is based on prediction, Sucker Punch works a lot better, scoring many more OHKOs than Shadow Sneak, and you can Shadow Claw whenever you predict them using a non-attacking move. Other than that, it's a good set.

I absolutely love this thread as I admire anyone who can use a UU pokemon in OU very successfully.

I don't really remember my EV spread, but I had a great deal of success with this guy.

Kecelon @ Choice Specs
Bold
~ Trick
~ Ice Beam
~ Thunder Bolt
~ Thunder Wave/Stealth Rock/Trick Room/Nasty Plot (filler Set up/crippler)

The trick to this guy is to bring him in on something like Blissey or Cresseila who you think will use Ice Beam or something. Kecleon has a very nice 120 SDef to take that hit. Afterwards, you can Trick the specs onto them, giving you a chance to Stealth Rock them or T-Wave their switch (depending on which one you choose). The Bolt-Beam in there is to do good damage when you don't think Tricking is a good idea (like when Specs Mence comes in you can Ice Beam).

His niche is that he can take special hits well in OU and still Trick away those specs, and proceed to Stealth Rock or something. Color Change makes him a tricky pokemon to take out, IMO. You can also trick Choice Band (Impish nature) and use Return as an attacking move. Grumpig also has this niche.

The risk is having a predicted switch into a special sweeper/specs user; the reward is tricking your Specs/Band onto something who fails to use it, like Blissey or Speces onto Gliscor, per-se. With that, you have just crippled at least one team member, and then you can set up with Stealth Rock, Nasty Plot (which may be illegal with Trick) or Trick Room, or you can paralyze their likely switch with Thunder Wave.

If the plan is to bring kecleon in on special hits, wouldnt it be better to give him choice band, not specs?

Well yes that's generally a better idea, but I use Choice Specs because more people are inclined to switch to a physical sweeper to attack on Kecleon's lower Defense level. If you predict a switch to, say, Herarcross, you can cripple it some by giving it a useless item. But otherwise, you're right, Choice Band would be a better choice (but you'd want to use physical attacks instead to take advantage of Choice Band's attack boost incase the timing for Trick isn't right).

Idealy this butterfree should be used in a double battle with a pokemon with Mean Look

Timid
Evs 252 speed/ 252 Hp (to help take blows)/ 6 sp.atk
Sleep powder (compound eyes improves accuracy to 97%)
Nightmare (XD move tutor)
Roost
Psychic or Silver Wind

I myself have used this Butterfree to defeat an Ev'd Darkrai and almost an Ev'd Palkia in the same battle.

I run a Trick Furret as my lead, and it worked wonders along with Wobbuffet setting up my sweepers.

Furret @ Choice Scarf
Jolly
160 HP / 252 Atk / 96 Spe
~Trick
~Body Slam
~Sucker Punch
~Focus Punch

It works extremely well, as it gives me a huge advantage by tricking against a Bronzong or Swampert, locking them into SR.

Cacturne @ Focus Sash
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Spd, 4 HP
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Sand Veil
~ Swords Dance
~ Sucker Punch
~ Focus Punch
~ Seed Bomb

Strategy:
This thing has been a beast on my otherwise OU Sandstorm team. Come in after a Pokemon has died (make sure to have a Spinner or else the whole point will be ruined). Swords Dance and allow Focus Sash to take the hit for you. Then, play mindgames. Sucker Punch is of course if your opponent is going to attack but if they are going to stat-up or switch, use Focus Punch. Seed Bomb is just there for a reliable STAB option. You can also get hax from Sand Veil (for those of you who don't know, it also makes the Pokemon immune to the sandstorm).

I have swept countless teams with this.
