Customization is something all sites use. It's why I can have a Goomy on these forums, why you can have a We going ape shit on these forums, and is a general standard for social media sites. I hardly think I'd be the only one who wants more of that on PS.

As for getting involved, I'm a driver in one of the site's chatrooms. It isn't global, but I'm starting somewhere. What about you?

You mentioned why universal custom avatars are unlikely at best to happen in your first post - each one has to be manually implemented. I went and took a quick look at PS to check on how many people were there to get an idea of the number of avatars they'd need to manually put in.

In the middle of the day US time on a weekday there were over 11000 people online, and over 2400 active battles. Even if you were just to do the people in the battles that's still over 4800 avatars to put in. Even if we say that the programmers can get a custom avatar up in 20 seconds, that's still over 26 manhours of work. And all this is on the low end for the possible number of avatars.

Add in that even the current custom avatars do have a format that has to be followed (size and detail limitations for example), there'd also be adding in the time to either tell people that their choice of avatar isn't ok or taking additional time to program something to autofilter and making sure that said avatar is implemented correctly.

You'd potentially have more success asking for more public avatars to be added - if you really wanted Goomy then I'd suggest suggesting that they add the gen 5 style sprites and Layell's latergen ones as public avatars.

I hope that helps answer and I even fit your criteria in your first post of "[not] enjoying the luxury of a custom avatar that others can't have."

Thanks for the response. Public was what I was intending to suggest. I don't think I alone should be the only one to have more options. Perhaps I don't understand programming as well, so it helps that you're enlightening me.

Is there a way to put in an option where your avatar can just be an image of a certain proportion like on here? Like it'd show up as a cropped square and stuff unless it were a png or something. The idea is a way where it doesn't HAVE to just be implemented by one guy or one team. Like on here, anybody can change their profile pic at their will without a higher-up having to do it for them. Such a statement is ignoring the fact that the format of PS is likely too different from here but... are we sure there's no way on doing it? I mean again, someone went through the process of changing almost every single sprite on the teambuilder to the in-game 3d models, right?

Just because somebody isn't a global driver doesn't mean they're a user that doesn't deserve customization. Obviously there are plenty of users who aren't even voiced that still provide good presence on the site, after all. It's enjoyable being able to individualize yourself on a site you like visiting is all.

pornina240x240square.png is the immediate reason why not to this. Sure, most people won't do this but the sheer volume of people who go on there makes it a very real risk.

I've seen a couple custom servers where they had this as an option and the larger one (I think it had maybe 50 people on it at its peak hours) had an issue for a little while where trolls would do exactly that and do as many ladder battles as possible.

afaik this is already possible using the /search command, it's just blocked in the ui

So by that logic we shouldn't be allowed to change our profile pic on the forums either cause somebody might make it lewd.

Difference is, Smogon forums don't risk getting a cease and desist letter if TPCI is unhappy with how things work. It's unlikely that you will ever be able to choose your PS avatar without limitations.
 
Fwiw allowing nonglobal staff to have custom avatars would also make it easier to impersonate global staff who do use them, which I believe is one of the reasons customizable name colors isn't a thing either.
 
Can you move Rain Dance and Sunny Day out of "usually useless moves"? Sure, they may not have much point in OU, but in the lower tiers where Drought and Drizzle are banned, they're very important.
 
Even when the mon has Serene Grace, the tooltip for this mon's Air Slash move says the chance to flinch is 30%. Since Serene Grace actually does multiply the chance by 2, why not make the tooltip say 60% (*2 from Serene Grace)?

Unfortunately the text relating to chances of secondary effects is hard-coded so the client can't easily double the appropriate number.
 
The roomevents feature is really convienient in PS
If there was an option for them to be automatically removed when the time specified has passed that would be cool
 
So when you're chatting with another player, you should be able to click on their name to like challenge them or see what they're doing, similar to what happens when you type in the name but this would be to avoid typing in the name every time.
 
if you don't like what they're doing talk to an ro or just don't go in it; they're not intended to be accepting of everyone, that's what we have public rooms for. if we get rid of gchats those problems will exist the same in discords or battles etc and make things inconvenient without a real benefit.

things like harassment outside of gcs still aren't ok tho

if you open pms with them and want to challenge them or something, you can't do that by clicking on the top of the pm box. this can be really inconvenient sometimes when it forces you to use the "find a user" button to challenge them
 
Similar to how we have an ignore list when it comes to ignoring certain users. I'm wondering if the system for blocking PMs could be modified a bit? I'm thinking of a way to block PMs, but only from certain users. Blocking PMs is an overall useful feature, but sometimes it can be inconvenient. It sounds a bit complicated, but I'll break it down. It could help prevent users from getting PM spammed by multiple accounts, getting harassed by people who are on multiple accounts, room staff members (who aren't global) can communicate more efficiently without having to worry about if another member is blocking PMs, if you wanted to only talk to a certain friend and because room staff members probably shouldn't /ignore users. It could work similarly to adding and deleting highlights.

An example of allowing. All exceptions would be: !, ac, +, staff, room(room name), and (username).
- Typing "/blockpms allow, staff" would only allow room staff members to PM you (either room staff of a room you're currently in or all room staff on the server).
- Typing "/blockpms allow, ac" would only allow autoconfirmed users to PM you.
- Typing "/blockpms allow, +" would only allow voiced and up users to PM you (this includes global and room voices).
- Typing "/blockpms allow, (username)" would only allow a certain user to PM you.
- Typing"/blockpms allow, !" would only allow anyone who isn't muted to PM you.

As an extension to those, maybe these parameters could also be specific to a certain room that you're currently in. Typing "/blockpms allow, room(room name)" would make it room specific, so any user in that room could PM you depending on your settings.

An example of removing exceptions.
- Typing "/blockpms disallow, staff" would take off the room staff exception.
- Typing "/blockpms disallow, +" would take off the voice exception.
- Typing "/blockpms disallow, all" would take off all exceptions.
- Typing "/blockpms disallow, room(room name), room(room name)" would take off the exception for needing to be in certain rooms and the settings will apply to the entire server instead.

This is similar to modchat in a way, but this only pertains to PMs. You could also add multiple exceptions by adding commas - "/blockpms allow, !, +, ac, staff, AlphaGent, jolteon-xvii". This will block PMs from everyone except people who you've specified (global staff members by default can still PM you regardless of these settings). You'd be able to look at your exception list by typing "/blockpms allowed". I would imagine the most common setup would be "/blockpms allow, !, ac" for eliminating bad PMs as much as possible barring users who troll/harass in PMs before getting muted or locked. Of course no one has to use these settings.

One big drawback is the fact that the /blockpms command doesn't save if you refresh or logout, so you'd have to input exceptions all over again. Or they could save like highlights do; that'd allow the settings to be in place even if you didn't block PMs, so you can avoid doing it later after blocking PMs. All of this could just be one big complexity, but I'd like to hear other thoughts and opinions. My ultimate goal for all of this is to make the /blockpms command on PS a little less hindering and a little more convenient for users and room staff who value and care for optimal communication with other users and room staff.

I'd like private room ROs to have the ability to handle modjoin. Especially after the recent screwups with private room auth, I've had my room open to allow people to rejoin, but I dislike having to find global staff every time I want to change it.

I just looked at the command, and it seems like it's actually supposed to work with ROs. "/modjoin [+|%|@|*|player|&|~|#|off] - Sets modjoin. Users lower than the specified rank can't join this room. Requires: ☆ # & ~"

Owners can alter modjoin setting in groupchats only. You can have a Leader/Admin set modjoin to sync in your room, then you'll be able to alter it by setting different levels of modchat.
 
Then I have to keep modchat up all the time. People ladder or use other alts, every proom I know has modchat off. What's the harm in allowing ROs to change modjoin?
 
For the command /hl delete, would it be possible to make it ask for confirmation or have it display your hl list before deleting so that people don't accidentally clear their hls/it's not a pain to readd them?
 
please add an opt out button for the thing where the IVs are set automatically. Setting Ditto's HP type is a nightmare

EDIT: this applies even moreso now Photon Geyser is a thing
