Rest in peace ubers cruel, rest in peace. XD

Tentacruel!

[OVERVIEW]

  • Fastest user of toxic spikes in the game (Bar quilfish in the rain)

  • Able to absorb toxic spikes, not just spin them away

  • Good HP and Special defense give it many opportunities to set up and spin

  • Can easily stop Cro-Ogre, CM Manaphy (And TG), and BU Dialgas with haze (Outrage still hurts)

  • Able to provide support after layers have gone down, unlike forretress.

[SET]

Name : I hate forretress!
Move 1: Toxic Spikes
Move 2: Rapid Spin
Move 3: Haze/Knock Off
Move 4: Toxic/Ice Beam
Item: Leftovers/Black Sludge
Nature: Calm/Timid
Ability: Liquid Ooze
Evs: [Calm] 252 HP/ 192 SpD/ 64 Spe OR [Timid] 252 HP/ 40 SpD/ 216 Spe

Why this deserves to be on site:

  • It provides Rapid Spin and Toxic Spikes support without being set up fodder.

  • Does not care about spin blocking as much as Forretress.

  • Provides excellent ice, fighting, fire, bug, and steel resistances, as well as a poison-type immunity.

  • Does not slow down momentum as much as Forretress so it is easier to fit on offensive teams.

Additional comments:

  • Calm spread outspeeds/creeps RP Groudon, Timid spread outspeeds Rayquaza. -Timid is better used when running ice beam.

  • Black Sludge can punish trickers, but also gives them another weapon against other members of your team.

  • Knock Off really helps against Lati@s and choice users, while haze stops rest talk stat uppers, especially Kyogre.
  • Clear body can help with skymin.

  • Counters the hell out of random Sub Seed Ludicolo XD
Counters and Checks:

  • Groudon first and foremost because STAB earthquake will be the end of tent cruel, though by virtue of its speed, he can get another layer or spin with its dying breath.

  • Garchomp for the same reason as Groudon, though you can not outspeed, it must be wary of switching into ice beam.

  • Ho-oh can kill you with earthquake if it has it or BB if not.

  • Rayquaza if you are running the calm spread.

  • Shaymin-S if it has earth power (Though Seed Flare will 2HKO if the defense drop occurs)

  • Palkia is kind of a check, though it can really only hurt you with thunder in the rain.

  • Dialga for the same reason as Palkia, but earth power hurts regardless of the weather.

  • Giratina-O can block your spin and really hurt you with EQ or Outrage, but hates toxic.

Teammates:

  • -Obviously Giratina-O is a perfect teammate because it not only blocks rapid spin, but also resists electric attacks and is immune to ground, not to mention that he handles Shaymin-s rather well, too; tentacrule also covers its ice weakness.

  • -Sub-Seed Skymin really appreciates, toxic spikes, rapid spin, an ice resist, and the free switch into ground attacks, so naturally it makes a good partner. The faster tempo that tentacrule keeps is also helps lure in choice users (Like Garchomp) so skymin can often get a free sub, too.

  • -Ho-oh loves rapid spin support and the water resist is also appreciated.

  • -Groudon : Toxic spikes really limit how many times Kyogre and Palkia can come in, so slower sets (Like paradancer) really benefit. They have good defensive synergy as well (Groudon practically resists ground lol). Oh, and tenta sets up on lugia all day.

  • -Wobbs can take care of scarfers that constantly come in (Specifically Garchomp)

  • -Kyogre benefits from Palkia being poisoned and really likes spin support to keep water spouts power up. Oh, and knocking off soul dew makes breaking Latias with the scarf set a possibility, but beware of stacking weaknesses.

  • -Wishpassers like Blissey are always helpful, and in this case, can take on any earth powers and thunders are coming tenta’s way with ease.

[Calcs]

Bulky set is the one listed, I can list the calcs for the faster one if need be. These are mostly just listed to show a few things that he can set up on.

Scarf Palkia’s Spacial Rend : 33.2 - 39.6% 4HKO factoring in lefties (I think)
Scarf Palkia’s Draco Meteor : 46.4 - 54.7% Looks bad, but is a 4HKO (I think, I did the math in my head) factoring in lefties and the SpA drops. Not like it will stay in for that long, but still.
Scarf Palkia’s Fire Blast (Assuming Sunlight) : 19.8% - 23.4%
Lustrous Orb Palkia’s surf (Assuming rain) : 28% - 33.2% (You can’t exactly set up on it because it isn’t choiced, but eh… It shows that you could use it as a pivot or something.)

Specs Dialga’s Aura Sphere : 16.2% - 19.2% (Forre takes 49.7% - 58.8%)

Latias Dragon Pulse : 34.6% - 40.7%

TG Manaphy’s Grass Knot : 13.5% - 15.9% [+2] 26.4% - 31.3%

Choice Specs Heatran’s Dragon Pulse : 29.4% - 34.9%

I will post logs shortly.

Ok, you haze their boosts away, what exactly can you do to them?

What? How Haze support isn't that useful, seeing as things will still do major damage before you can haze their boosts away. I guess it can use Toxic, but Forry can actually set up Spikes after Tspikes....technically it can use Toxic too.

[SET]

Name : I hate forretress!
Move 1: Toxic Spikes

Nature: Calm/Timid

Why this deserves to be on site:

It provides Rapid Spin and Toxic Spikes support without being set up fodder.
It may not be set-up fodder from Calm Mind, but I bet things can easily set up Substitutes (or Taunt you then procede to setup from there!)

Does not care about spin blocking as much as Forretress.
What?

Provides excellent ice, fighting, fire, bug, and steel resistances, as well as a poison-type immunity.
Only Ice and Fire are common attack types in Ubers (Bug is really only used by Scizor), and Ice is commonly complimented by Electric (Thunder) and FIre by Dragon. Neither of which Tentacruel likes.

Does not slow down momentum as much as Forretress so it is easier to fit on offensive teams.
HOW. You are using a defensive Pokemon, of course it will slow down your momentum.

Additional comments:

-Calm spread outspeeds RP Groudon, Timid spread outspeeds Rayquaza. -Timid is better used when running ice beam.
No comment really.

-Black Sludge can punish trickers, but also gives them another weapon against other members of your team.
Why even mention it?

-Knock Off really helps against Lati@s and choice users, while haze stops rest talk stat uppers, especially Kyogre.
Honestly, without haze you are setup on by everything under the sun. And things with Taunt can still easily set up on you either way.

-Counters the hell out of random Sub Seed Ludicolo XD
I'll give you this one.

Counters and Checks:

Groudon first and foremost because STAB earthquake will be the end of tent cruel, though by virtue of its speed, he can get another layer or spin with its dying breath.
Garchomp for the same reason as Groudon, though you can not outspeed, it must be wary of switching into ice beam.

Dialga for the same reason as Palkia, but earth power hurts regardless of the weather.
Giratina-O can block your spin and really hurt you with EQ or Outrage, but hates toxic.
Ok you forgot a few, let me list them (all of these assume 1v1):

Darkrai- All it really needs is one Nasty Plot / Substitute, so unless you are spamming haze (which is unlikely...) it gets a Nasty plot and then does 63.7% - 75.3% with a Nasty Plot, then once you Haze it away it does 32.1% - 37.9%, meaning you take 95% minimum and have no recovery. Not to mention it can just Dark Void you.

Arceus- Really every Arceus set beats this, as you have no recovery! If you have Toxic it can always use Substitute / Refresh. Or if its a Steel-type varient you are royally screwed.

Dialga- You included this, but you make it sound like a throw-away counter, while you can't touch it and it commonly carries Thunder. It really doesn't matter what attack moves it has either, it still rapes you because you have no recovery.

Palkia- Same as Dialga, it nearly always carries Thunder for Kyogre, which you obviously don't like.

Ho-Oh- devours you whole with Brave Bird. You do 23.5% - 27.9% in the rain to it if you were wondering.

Kyogre- Ok. You do not beat Kyogre. I do not care what variant. AT ALL. Ever. The varients without Thunder carry either Rest or Substitute. The varients with Thunder destroy you. I guess you may be able to setup on some kinds, but you don't "counter" them seeing as you can't touch variants with Rest / Sub, and those that don't have that have Thunder.

Lati@s- They demolish you with Thunder. Which it almost always has!

Lugia- Offensive varients commonly carry Thunder, defensive varients can't really do much I guess.

Manaphy- You can't even touch Manaphy in the rain, I don't care how much it does to you, you have to recovery so you will eventually fall, even with haze! I'll give you the fact you can set up on it.

Mew- Outside of the lead spot, it is usually only a BPer, which you lose to magnificently.

Mewtwo- Taunts you and sets up all day

Rayquaza- I guess you win this one if you have Ice Beam...

Shaymin-S- Demolishes you with Seed Flare/ EP

If you haven't kept track, you lose against every single Uber Pokemon in 1v1 besides Rayquaza, and maybe Wobbuffet. WIth "1v1" please don't say "switch to teammate" because then Tenta will be switching out every time it somehow gets in!

[Calcs]

Bulky set is the one listed, I can list the calcs for the faster one if need be. These are mostly just listed to show a few things that he can set up on.

Your calcs:
Scarf Palkia’s Spacial Rend : 33.2 - 39.6% 4HKO factoring in lefties (I think) Its about a 3HKO with SR, and what the hell, why wouldn't it Thunder?

Specs Kyogre’s Surf (Assuming rain) : 35.4% - 41.8%
Specs Kyogre’s Ice Beam : 15.7% - 18.7%
Here is the Scarf Thunder calc! 52.7% - 62.6%, everything here assumes you are switching in, but you get *1* turn of set up as they switch to <insert Uber> to kill you. And it literally is only 1 turn, because its not like they will normally repeat the senario.

I don’t think I need to list calcs for Lugia and Blissey. Also, Toxic rapes Lugia

CB Scizor’s BP : 27.2% - 32.1%

Choice Specs Heatran’s Fire Blast (Neutral Weather) : 29.4% - 34.6% (Hurts like hell in the sun)
Choice Specs Heatran’s Dragon Pulse : 29.4% - 34.9%
Really all of these calcs are one time thing, because they just switch to something that can beat you! I guess you get *1* turn of setup, but hey, Forry can do this too, and once its set up 2 layers of Tspikes it isn't dead weight against heavy offense! (most Stealth Rockers are Suicide leads, so you won't have to keep spinning...). Forry also has a huge asset in its Steel-typing, letting it completely wall multiple Pokemon in the Sun (Pokemon that rely on Thunder).

Tl;dr: Why would I use this over Forretress? It has a chace to beat Giratina-O by catching it on the switch with Payback repeatedly, and doesn't lose to nearlyeverything in the tier 1v1! Also, Forretress is hardly setup fodder with the threat of Explosion. Also, Forretress isn't useless once its 2 layers of Tspikes are up, it can then setup Spikes or Explode! Tentacruel may have its perks I guess, but eh...

Ok, I will just address everything one by one. P.s. Thanks for ripping it apart with zero constructive... well anything lol. My comments are the bullets.

In my opinion, heavy offense has no use for Toxic Spikes, or Tentacruel for that matter.

  • Nobody ever said anything about heavy offense.
Ok, you haze their boosts away, what exactly can you do to them?

  • Honestly nothing (Assuming I already have layers down) but it is more of a perk that might keep you from randomly getting swept.
What? How Haze support isn't that useful, seeing as things will still do major damage before you can haze their boosts away. I guess it can use Toxic, but Forry can actually set up Spikes after Tspikes....technically it can use Toxic too.

  • Between haze, Knock Off, and Toxic, tenta can provide some support, and again, it is not the primary reason to use him, just perks that forre can usually not claim.
It may not be set-up fodder from Calm Mind, but I bet things can easily set up Substitutes (or Taunt you then procede to setup from there!)

  • Honestly, anything with taunt or sub sets up on every (Or almost every) defensive pokemon in the game. I was more so pointing out that certain like rayquaza and giratina-O will have to think twice before setting up because if they get greedy, tentacruel can cripple or kill them (Ice beam for ray and toxic for tina-o. Before you nitpick it, the faster set can get in toxic before giratina can sub).
What?

  • It (A spinblocker) can still prevent SR and spikes from being removed, but there is nothing it can do about t-spikes being asborbed, hence as much, not, at all.
Only Ice and Fire are common attack types in Ubers (Bug is really only used by Scizor), and Ice is commonly complimented by Electric (Thunder) and FIre by Dragon. Neither of which Tentacruel likes.

  • Fire and Ice may be some of the most common attacking types, but fighting (Mewtwo, darkari, dialga, scizor) and bug/steel (Admittedly this pretty much just scizor, but honestly, he is on just about every other team, so those resistances are still handy) are still quite common. As far as attack types complimenting each other, I don't see your point. In the calcs, I said things like Scarf Palkia's ____ and Scarf Darkrai's____ for a reason. Just like forre, I am not going to try and set up on something with a life orb or leftovers! Just like with every spiker, it is all about resistances and prediction : See a choiced flamethrower comming? Switch in, get a layer, switch out. Rinse and repeat just like with forretress.
HOW. You are using a defensive Pokemon, of course it will slow down your momentum.

  • Again I stress as much. Tentacrule is much faster than forre, and because of that, he is actually able to threaten some switch ins before they have a chance to set up or attack, which still leaves you in control in some situations (Again we return to the rayquaza example).
Why even mention it?

  • For the same reason it is listed on the OU analysis, it is an other option.
Honestly, without haze you are setup on by everything under the sun. And things with Taunt can still easily set up on you either way.

  • Yes, and that is why I use haze... lol. Also, taunt users are pretty damn easy to spot (Mewtwo, heatran, etc.) so just like forre (we will overlook the threat of a fire move here) you would switch out to avoid being set up on.
I'll give you this one.

  • Well at least now we have a 100% counter to the looming threat of sub seed colo. XD Honestly it was just there for kicks
Ok you forgot a few, let me list them (all of these assume 1v1):

  • Just want to point out that that is a really horrible assumption.

  • Yes, I did forget to mention darkrai, thank you. In all fairness, he sets up all over 90% of the tier when they lack scarves. (Deo-A, Mewtwo, and Skymin are the exceptions)
Arceus- Really every Arceus set beats this, as you have no recovery! If you have Toxic it can always use Substitute / Refresh. Or if its a Steel-type varient you are royally screwed.

  • I was told to neglect arceus when I was commenting on the CM darkrai set, so I ignored him here.
Dialga- You included this, but you make it sound like a throw-away counter, while you can't touch it and it commonly carries Thunder. It really doesn't matter what attack moves it has either, it still rapes you because you have no recovery.

  • I listed it as a CHECK. I don't know what else you want from me.
Again, I don't mess with mixed sets, just like forretress (If you are not getting the point by now I am stressing that many of the common things that beat forre beat tenta, too, but tenta also sets up on quite a few moves (FROM CHOICE USERS) that forre can't dream of living through.)
Palkia- Same as Dialga, it nearly always carries Thunder for Kyogre, which you obviously don't like.

  • I don't care at all if it carries thunder at all if it is choiced and locked into spacial rend.
Ho-Oh- devours you whole with Brave Bird. You do 23.5% - 27.9% in the rain to it if you were wondering.

  • Thank you for restating that.... XD I listed him in RED as a COUNTER. I don't know what else you want from me.
  • No, I wasn't wondering. Not at all. If tenta is on his deathbed already, I can toxic Ho-oh, but other than that, I am switching out.

  • I never said that I beat them, I never said that I counter them, I said that I set up on some of them. Again, I like my tentacruel alive, so I will not be staying in on those that are not choiced. Honestly, I don't care if an ogre has 6 calm Minds up and is behind a sub, I can still sac something, send cruel in and haze every last boost away. I will trade eating a thunder (Will, not OHKO at +0) for getting rid of X number of boosts any day of the week. Also, those variants with sub get raped by toxic spikes.
Lati@s- They demolish you with Thunder. Which it almost always has!

  • Thank you? I know that a lati@s with thunder beats it, hence why I specifically mentioned grass knot. If they have GK then cool, I get layers, if not, I stay the hell away.
Lugia- Offensive varients commonly carry Thunder, defensive varients can't really do much I guess.

  • Offensive sets loose to toxic eventually and or get hazed, and honestly, I really only meant the defensive set.
Manaphy- You can't even touch Manaphy in the rain, I don't care how much it does to you, you have to recovery so you will eventually fall, even with haze! I'll give you the fact you can set up on it.

  • I know, but it can't do a whole lot to me either. Honestly, I consider getting 2 layers on it and hazing a win for me. Then Groudon comes in.
Mew- Outside of the lead spot, it is usually only a BPer, which you lose to magnificently.

  • Just about everything looses to BP mew, tentacruel included. Just take note that Specs Ogre, Mixquaza, and Taunt mewtwo are really the only things that can really beat it behind screens.
Mewtwo- Taunts you and sets up all day

  • It isn't wobbs... I can switch out, and I am really not staying in an any non-choice mewtwo anyway. I think I covered this.
Rayquaza- I guess you win this one if you have Ice Beam...

  • XD Judging from the elipses it really pained you to give me that one lol.
Shaymin-S- Demolishes you with Seed Flare/ EP

  • Again, it is listed as a check for a reason. Just for the record, if it seed flares (Assuming I am above 50%), I can just ice beam it... Again, it has serene grace, not shadow tag, I can switch out.
WIth "1v1" please don't say "switch to teammate"

  • Just for the record, that pretty much means don't play pokemon. That is kind of the basis for the entire game.
Scarf Palkia’s Spacial Rend : 33.2 - 39.6% 4HKO factoring in lefties (I think) Its about a 3HKO with SR, and what the hell, why wouldn't it Thunder?

  • It can't thunder if it is locked into spacial rend. I said scarf for a reason.
See Above, and even if you switch into it, it will just switch to another Uber besides Rayquaza to beat you!

  • Yes, and as it switches, I get my layer. Then (Have you ever used a forretress) I switch out and wait for another switchin.
Here is the Scarf Thunder calc! 52.7% - 62.6%, everything here assumes you are switching in, but you get *1* turn of set up as they switch to <insert Uber> to kill you. And it literally is only 1 turn, because its not like they will normally repeat the senario.

  • Thanks but I already ran the thunder calc, I just didn't list it because it is irrelivant. Again, I get my layer and switch out. If you are keeping track, that is now two layers, which means that tenta has done its job. FYI, I have no intention of switching into a scarfed thunder.
(ya what about Thunder...)

  • That is like saying "ya what about HP[Fire]" for forretress. If it has it, you loose, if not, you get a layer/spin/knock off/whatever.
Really all of these calcs are one time thing, because they just switch to something that can beat you! I guess you get *1* turn of setup, but hey, Forry can do this too, and once its set up 2 layers of Tspikes it isn't dead weight against heavy offense!

  • First off, forry is kind of dead weight against heavy offense before and after t-spikes go down, at least in my experience.
(most Stealth Rockers are Suicide leads, so you won't have to keep spinning...).

  • So yeah, I only have to spin once.
Forry also has a huge asset in its Steel-typing, letting it completely wall multiple Pokemon in the Sun (Pokemon that rely on Thunder).

  • If you want to get into the pokemon that rely on thunder side of things, tentacruel walls them in the exact same way, but doesn't have to worry about fire moves.
Why would I use this over Forretress? It has a chace to beat Giratina-O by catching it on the switch with Payback repeatedly, and doesn't lose to nearlyeverything in the tier 1v1! Also, Forretress is hardly setup fodder with the threat of Explosion. Also, Forretress isn't useless once its 2 layers of Tspikes are up, it can then setup Spikes or Explode! Tentacruel may have its perks I guess, but eh...

  • Tenta can beat tina-o in the exact same way, only by using ice beam or toxic on the switch.
  • Forre does loose to almost everything everything 1v1, just for the record. Again, battles are one 6 v 6, not six 1 v1's.
  • Most forre (again in my experience) do not carry explosion. Forre is set up fodder to almost every single pokemon you listed could set up on tenta, while tenta actually sets up on many threats that forre has to switch out of.
  • Exactly, tenta has its perks. Just like forre has its perks, and groudon has its perks, etc.

I like Ubers Tentacruel (Eh, Forretress is getting really boring), but I really think you're overhyping this a bit too much. Tentacruel is massive setup fodder. I mean seriously, you are not doing anything in return a lot of dangerous sweepers, apart from MAYBE Toxic. Yeah, you might Haze once or twice, but once your opponent gets the jist, something like SD Chomp (Who I'm quite sure you won't OHKO with Ice Beam) will just SD once and sent you to the graveyard. You would be hard pressed to beat Manaphy or Kyogre too, actually, since they can just CM once, Surf as you Haze and do it again, since Tentacruel has no reliable recovery and he will die eventually.

Moral of the story: I like the change, but you really need to emphasise Tentacruel's shortcomings, and I mean REALLY.

I just threw a random team together to test tenta.

Tentacruel sucks, why ?

- We can easily set-up on Tenta (boosting sweep, entry hazards support, etc...).
- Dangerous weak for a stall and he don't have a recover move...
- Totally block by SpinBlocker, like Foretress, but Tenta set-up only TSpikes VS Giratina for the offensive pressure, Foretress can set-up TSpikes and Spikes (Spikes > TSpikes in Uber, it's incontestable).
- Under the rain Foretress is 3HKO by Giratina-O, Tentacruel is 2HKO whatever the weather by DClaw / EQ.
- The majority Uber sweep 2HKO / OHKO Tenta, that's okay for close the discussion no ?

PS : sorry for my english.

I do understand that he has shortcomings, but i think that stressing what he can do well and what differentiates him from the standard (Being forre) for the time being is more important. If you guys want I can go through and expand on what can be done to cover his faults. Again, I really want to stress that there is really not much that can set up on tenta but can not set up on forre (The lati@s are all that really comes to mind, but even then... knock off/toxic cripples them) while there is quite a bit that tenta can actually prevent from setting up.

Lati@s don't can set-up on Foretress, Explosion is very played on Foretress and Payback 2HKO classic Latios spread.

To avoid the double post I will just edit it in here. I said that the lati@s can not set up on forretress, so I think you may have misunderstood what I meant.
TSpikes and Spikes (Spikes > TSpikes in Uber, it's incontestable).
- The majority Uber sweep 2HKO / OHKO Tenta, that's okay for close the discussion no ?

PS : sorry for my english.
I feel that toxic spikes are the more dangerous of the two, but it is at the very least debatable.

As for that being the end of the discussion, the majority of the ubers metagame can 2HKO a majority of the ubers metagame if that makes any sense.

The majority of the Uber metagame can 2HKO a majority of the Uber metagame.

Ya, but Tenta is 2HKO by everybody and have nothing for the offensive pressure, you see the difference ?

Tentacruel sucks, why ?

lots of stuff can easily set up on forry too. .-.

- Dangerous weak for a stall and he don't have a recover move...

okay, ill give you that, but rapid spin helps make stall less of a worry, same with forry

-Totally block by SpinBlocker, like Foretress, but Tenta set-up only TSpikes VS Giratina for the offensive pressure, Foretress can set-up TSpikes and Spikes (Spikes > TSpikes in Uber, it's incontestable).

toxic spikes is actually the preferred "spike" in ubers

- Under the rain Foretress is 3HKO by Giratina-O, Tentacruel is 2HKO whatever the weather by DClaw / EQ.

fair enough

- The majority Uber sweep 2HKO / OHKO Tenta, that's okay for close the discussion no ?

as whats his name said, everything 2hkos everything in ubers anyway

PS : sorry for my english.
the purpose of this isn't a "fuck forry use tenta its cooler and bagworms suck :justin::justin::justin:" thread. its a "tentacruel is a viable alternative to forry if you are tired of being taunted :happybrain:" thread. and the latter part is true. the former may also be true but i like forry. its cute. :)

anywho, ubers tenta seems cool. fast t-spikes that isnt dependent on weather seems like it could be really valuable and for more offensive-ish teams sometimes forry is a downer because of its low speed.

toxic spikes is actually the preferred "spike" in ubers

=> No, TSpikes are not preferred Spikes in Uber actually -O-

Calm spread outspeeds RP Groudon, Timid spread outspeeds Rayquaza. -Timid is better used when running ice beam.
The former spread is Speed creep and Groudon beats you anyways, the second spread is SLOWER than max Speed Jolly Rayquaza (you need 216 Speed).

  • It provides Rapid Spin and Toxic Spikes support without being set up fodder.
Debatable: Forretress can at least Payback the likes of Lati@s and Mewtwo. Tenta has haze but it's really unsafe hazing these two because the former likely has Thunder and the second could Taunt

Does not care about spin blocking as much as Forretress.
This is false. Giratina-O often carries Dragon Claw (or Earthquake), which easily 2HKOes Tentacruel. The other thing is that although Forry can be OHKOed by HP Fire in the sun, in the rain it is only a 3HKO, as opposed to DClaw's consistent 2HKO. And DClaw is harder to switch into than HP Fire. Not to mention, Ice Beam does less. Yes, he absorbs Toxic Spikes upon switching in, but let's not forget that spinblocking also happens in offensive teams and Tentacruel gets spinblocked easier.
Provides excellent ice, fighting, fire, bug, and steel resistances, as well as a poison-type immunity.
Most of these resistances are mitigated by its low physical Defense. Fighting and bug are almost negligible. Fighting is only thrown around by Mewtwo, Scizor, and Lucario. Tentacruel's overall physical defense is close to half of Forretress', for starters. Mewtwo can set up with Taunt and Calm Mind, and Lucario OHKOes with SDed Close Combat (or ExtremeSpeed). The only Bug moves you'll be seeing are U-turn from Scizor/Jirachi and Bug Bite from the former. You shouldn't be switching into U-turns anyways and Bug Bite from Scizor hurts. Since Forretress resists Ice, Steel and Bug, his only notable resistance is Fire and Water (the latter is debatable actually since you can't really do much against the common Water spammers)
Does not slow down momentum as much as Forretress so it is easier to fit on offensive teams.
I disagree with this. Forretress gets Spikes, which fits offensive teams better. Forretress also has the useful Dragon resistance.

About the logs: your team is Deoxys-S / Groudon / Tentacruel / Scizor / Palkia / Heatran or Shaymin-S. First things first: How could you build a spikestacking team without a spinblocker? You're relying a bit hard on Deoxys-S catching it with Fire Punch, and your team doesn't even -need- Toxic Spikes absorption since the things you want to keep alive against stall are immune to Toxic Spikes. Finally, without any sort of Ground immunity on the first team, Garchomp and Groudon will have a field day spamming Earthquakes. The second team can fall flat in the face of Rock Polish Groudon and Ho-Oh. Although I don't have a team to suggest, you're not making good use of TS absorption.

Logs are supposed to show the Pokemon's talents while being put into a good and stable team.

I won't reject this JUST YET but Tentacruel is pretty shaky. It has its perks over Forretress (namely TS absorption), but I'm not sure if that's enough since Tentacruel has to switch in for that, and unlike Spikes, TS would've already done its job if it poisoned one or two crucial members on the team. Tenta isn't the easiest thing to bring in either.

EDIT: @ Private: That's honestly very debatable. Toxic Spikes is incredibly good in Ubers because it give stall a dangerous weapon against offensive teams by severely crippling Pokemon such as Groudon, Kyogre, and Mewtwo. Spikes alone can't do that.

EDIT 2: We discussed Tentacruel further on IRC and

QC REJECTED (1/3)

I played this Tentacruel on ladder and it interestingly caused me alot of problems (seeing as i was trying to set up DD Kingdra most the time because i was testing chestorest). It did work well against me, but i feel its more because of the way i played. It certainly has a niche role though, but even fortress does a better job of getting past G-O

Why put Liquid Ooze on Tentacruel? There are very few, if any draining moves used in Ubers. And besides, you mentioned something about Shaymin being able to 2KO if there is a Sp Def drop? So use Clear Body then, it is the more useful of the two by preventing stat drops.

Ice-eyes

Simper Fi
Liquid Ooze is very useful to deal with the likes of SubSeeding Shaymin / Ludicolo. However, Clear Body should get a mention as it is useful to help Tentacruel deal with Choice Scarf Shaymin-S.

Tentacruel easily screams "why can't I just use Forretress?", In the majority of your logs Forretress would have done much better(not to mention those were pretty dumbly played in your foe's side). Additionaly, Tenta tanks hits and hits like a sissy girl. For example an UNBOOSTED Extremespeed from a Jolly SD Rayquaza can OHKO you. Tenta also pretty much loses to any variant to Giratina-o. Whilst Forretress could atleast Payback it. The only real advantages it has over Forretress is Toxic Spikes absorption, A fire resist(which doesn't outweight the fuckton of resists forry gets), and haze(what exactly can you do to them with a special attack lower than that of Lugia??)

Sorry if I sounded harsh, but I don't see this set going on-site.

Tentacruel sucks. Its not good on offensive teams because it is the biggest piece of set up bait ever for Wobbuffet. (Forry can at least Explode or set up more Spikes) Yes, Tenta does absorb TS, but it just doesn't provide enough support otherwise and it halts the momentum of offensive teams even more than Forretress. (At least it can threaten Explosion.)

Forretress is also a much better choice for stall teams. Its more numerous resistances and higher physical bulk along with that HUGELY important Dragon resist cancels out Tentacruel's useful-ish physical resistances. (And the Ground/Electric weaknesses SUCKS when the majority of Ubers sweepers rely on those attack types!) Forretress can also take on some stall breakers well such as TauntCM Mewtwo and SubCM Giratina-O. (Don't tell me Haze will stop Tina, Ice Beam needs to roll max damage to break your subs and Tina's DPulse is a 3HKO, so odds are when Tenta dies Tina will still be behind a sub and you will most likely lose another Pokemon. Not good at all.)The only resistance Tenta has over Forry is Fire, but Ho-Oh owns you and Heatran can Taunt you anyways. The Water resist is also worthless considering Palkia, Manaphy, and Kyogre also own you.

The logs do not help Tenta's case at all either. All of your opponents either sucked, ragequit, or put Tenta in situations where Forry would have done perfectly if not even better. I could also go on about how poorly your team was suited to take advantages of the entry hazards and Tentacruel but Jibaku already covered that.

TL;DR Tenta's advantages over Forry are cool, but its just not enough to consider using it over the bagworm. I do not see Tentacruel being viable at all. I'm not going anymore in depth since Jibaku/firecape covered the rest of the points well.

QC REJECTED (2/3)

Well that puts it at the border of rejection, so all I can ask before you completely turn it away is that you actually test it for a few games, maybe you will be surprised. Again I need to stress that you should look at the things that it can do/set up on/ that forre can not. Tenta's weaknesses are easily covered by the rest of the team, and being to *always* get rid of toxic spikes is a HUGE and powerful quality; gitatina-o really only needs to block your spin once or twice before most of your team is already poisoned. Tenta works really well when given the proper support, and I also want to stress that it does not require any more support than forretress, just a different kind. Thanks for your input thus far.
