I only use it for cloning and getting extra TMs and whatnot. I -hate- people using hacked Pokemon. Dont care if the parents were hacked, or hacked TMs, or whatever, just not directly hacked.

I guess after you spent 2 years doing consultant work by the hour, you tend to think of each hour you spend doing something recreational as $XYZ amount of dollars lost. So for me it was decided by the margin costs. $15 dollars for an AR vs. $XYZ*AB dollars lost, where XYZ is my hourly consultancy fee and AB is how many extra hours I would spend EV training my Atk on kricketunes and bidoofs over nidokings.

I think if you want perfect monsters without effort, go for NetBattle or wait for Competitor. If you're too busy to put effort into the game, rather than cheat, play something that you can actually enjoy for itself. Don't waste money on Pokémon. Or just battle fellow hackers with perfect teams made effortlessly. Don't battle other players just so you can cheat them out of a fair match. Racking up a win record by cheating to do what? Impress people online? Become 1337? Gaia Online has tons of members swarming Smogon now.. people with Wonderguard Spiritombs, Sleep Powder Honchkrows, etc. Scams have been getting pretty sick too. People trading fakes and pawning them off as real - then others finding out that the monster is fake because it turns into a bad egg or is banned from PBR. Darkrai and Arceus are nice, but I don't give a crap if they're available or not. I don't want them. Most people ban legendaries in battle anyway. With cloning and WiFi trade, people can easily spread official Arceus/Darkrai/Shaymin when they're actually released. It's not like back in the older games where only people who actually went to Nintendo Events can get a Celebi or something.

Excluding people from the game just because they don't want to spend hours of mindless, luck-based breeding just isn't fair. Most hackers hack because they want a level playing field, not because they want to trash teams with their Wonderguard Spiritomb or No guard, Sheer Cold Ninjack. Also, most people don't ban legendaries. I don't think anybody bans legendaries on smogon.

I like cloning. It's not really hacking. They're the exact same as the original. AR cloning is also the same as GTS cloning! Just faster.

Just so we're clear, because many people seem to be attacking myself and the other AR users. I speak for myself here but many others seem to do the same thing in respect to NOT changing ANY values at all. I'm not just POP! creating a whole perfect team as I imagine them. I'm still breeding, leveling, EV training...I'm just taking about 60% of the time out of it.

Just because I'm not in high school and don't have hours and hours to play the game should I be, by default, at a disadvantage for any sort of competitive play? Should I snuff out my competitive nature and enjoyment for the game because I don't have 4+ hours a night to sit in front of a TV pressing up and down on my DS? That just seems wrong to me. It's also the reason I had to stop playing MMORPG's, because if you don't dedicate an unreasonable amount of possibly productive time to the video game you are left behind and have no chance of competing on a decent level.

You don't have to agree with me, but I know that many do.

Well people who participate in official tournaments can't use hacked monsters and I doubt they all managed to capture or breed perfect monsters to have an equal standing with one another. I've been at a Nintendo Event were SPP staff members were talking about several Smogon users who were caught cheating, so I mean it's not that people haven't tried to enter using programs to create what appears to be legit monsters. Rather than go through extra expense for a game and hacking device, just play online for free with NB. Zero effort to build a team, perfect way to have fun on an equal playing field, and nobody has to wonder if foul play was involved in their loss.

Thank you Fishin. This is exactly it, just that one added detail.

Well in my case, I don't have the time for official tourneys hence being the problem in the first place :)

Friend Codes were created so you can exchange them with people you know or trust. Whether you support hacking or not, you decide who you'd like to battle or trade with. If you want to play competitively with perfect IVs and no effort because you're busy, then go ahead - battle other people exactly like that, but rarely ever will you run into someone with 6 perfect monsters without hacking. I've been to other forums like Neoseeker and the hacking there is getting out of hand - beyond max stats alone. On the internet though, you can run into a lot of deceptive people.

Players are able to create an arena where they can enjoy a fair gaming experience. Simple as that.

I'm just curious...if this (or any of the similar posts) is being directed at me, did you read what I stated above at all? I don't touch/change/edit any values, period. That includes IV's. I agree that would be crossing a line. It seems like most of the smogon AR using community agrees with this viewpoint.

This I completely understand...because the IGN boards are the same way. I came here because I was sick of it.

If you don't want to spend a ton of time doing well at a game, DON'T. If you do, spend the time. It's a tradeoff between being good at something and what have you.

You may have the luxury of an AR and "finance" = fiance I assume. I don't have the luxury of any of those.

Now I really do feel like a noob, spelling fiance as finance. Thanks for pointing that out.

And I guess if you look at it that way that is your perspective. There is no AR code for planning a wedding, otherwise you bet I would AR myself through this hell.

Minimod?

Why wouldn't it be allowed? I thought it was a valid question to ask. Sorry if it was inappropriate for the forums or where I posted it.

Pokemon battling is not the same as pokemon breeding. I know they both start with "B" which can be tricky but please try not to confuse the two. Breeding for a single pokemon requires more time on average than battling does. Battling also requires six of these pokemon.. This is first and foremost a competitive battling site.. not a competitive breeding site. We focus on the strategy involved with battling and specifically human vs human battling. The core of this community is here because they like battling. I'd rather waste hours of my time playing the part of the game I actually enjoy instead of the part that Jumpman does while driving 80mph. Yes, breeding requires that much brain activity.

I see where the "time and effort" thing comes into play and making it unfair for competition when someone spends five minutes versus your 50 hours on a team. At the same time, however, you chose to spend those 50 hours breeding. You could just as easily have gone online and found the equipment needed to shark your pokemon. In a Smogon tournament I will be all about using only pokemon I've bred/"legally obtained." For casual battling, I have no problem with anyone sharking anything so long as it can be done in the game as well. It all comes down to how much you value your free time and how much of it you have. Jump could probably come in here and argue with me but that's how I feel about it in general. To me 60 bucks seems cheap for the amount of time I save.

If one wanted to play Pokemon for the sheer battling factor of it (which is pretty much the purpose of Smogon), such things are easily accomplished by free tools like Netbattle, Shoddybattle and the soon to be Competitor. After all, it's not like the AI is going to be more of a challenge then a human opponent. And if you can battle people over a simulator just like over WiFi, except for free, why bother? This is the reason most competitive tournaments will be held over Competitor, I'd assume.

It's just my opinion, but I just can't see why anybody would want or even bother hacking flawless Pokemon. If you want to battle with perfect Pokemon, why not just do it on a simulator? Unless you have some sort of animation fetish, there really is no reason.

Well now that's just silly. Because it's a great game, lots of fun, and takes up a whole lot less time than selling your soul to an MMO. Plus, strategy games (imo) are a whole lot less of a waste of time than fps's.

If you can honestly admit you have no time for breeding and happen to have an animation fetish, I have no problem with people who hack Pokemon with IVs like 20/31/22/28/24/31. I can usually breed something like that in two days by just pressing up and down while watching TV. But Pokemon with 31's across the board? Please. You could breed for over a year and never see a completely flawless Pokemon.

I wasn't targeting anyone specifically. I've been moving from one forum to the next - Gaia, Neoseeker, Serebii, GameFAQs, etc. and it just seems like support for hacking has grown immensely for the wrong reasons. The temptation with all the codes you can find on Google make some people greedy - like the ones who try to enter tournaments and scam Nintendo to win the grand prize. I'm just talking generally. You know, if you're hacking in a fake Darkrai and asking for people to make legit trades, why? You own AR. Hack it yourself. You don't ever need to trade with anyone for anything. Smogon itself is a more honest environment than most.

Seriously, the only thing a hacker can do that would piss me off is battling me with a shiny Gardevoir: "Fuckin' bastard, I want one too T_T". Otherwise... What counts in a battle is luck, effort, experience and the pokémon you and the opponent use. Even a hacker can have these characteristcs.

Battles should be more of a test of your skills and the strategy you're implimenting to win as opposed to like.. a test to see who's a better hacker. A lot of people advise me to just stick to battling Smogon users, but with it's advertisement on places like Gaia Online, where the most popular users are the ones with Levitating Pichu with 800 HP and Fire Blast.. just kinda pisses me off that this place might be flooded with gimmicks soon.

Pokemon battles on Gaia? Maybe in some guilds, but I've never heard anything about Pokemon there except a topic with the title "fuck this, I'm going to watch Pokemon".

Competitive battles should be saved for Simulators/PBR WiFi if unbeatable Pichu's are your problem.

Netbattle stops at Advance and there is no official Smogon server anymore. Competitor is still a ways away yet and shoddybattle has its issues still. I don't see why we have to put in mindless "effort" to enjoy this game. I enjoy battling. The original reason for Netbattle and the bots and PBS was to battle people online. We can do that now through WiFi so I don't see why people have to make the separation. I won't battle you but if my IVs aren't all 31 and everything is in order, am I still "cheating" you out of a fair match? And I still don't understand how it's a "fair match" if you have more time than I do to waste on breeding.

Actually Carl, although I'm speaking on behalf of myself, not everyone can buy an AR. I certainly can't, only getting games as a present from Christmas or birthdays, so I feel I would be at a disadvantage and instead make up for it by breeding although having an AR will admittedly save time.

At 13 I mowed lawns and saved money to buy a Game Boy and Pokemon Blue.. my parents had a hard nosed rule about video games and refused to buy them for me as gifts or anything else. The cost of a Game Boy and Pokemon is more than an Action Replay or Flash Cart.

I’m just patiently waiting for it’s release. I may even sell Diamond after Competitor’s out.

I'm pretty sure most the people complaining they "don't have enough time" are full of BS. Do you watch TV? Movies? Go on the internet? Just breed while doing these things. Unlike one 30 minute battle, once you've bred something once you won't need to spend time doing it again.

Seriously; I'm reading threads on this site while hatching some pokes. Hell, I could be watching TV and doing the same, or reading anything else while doing this... breeding doesn't require 100% of your attention.

How is it unfair? You can buy the tools needed to modify all this stuff as well. It's not like only certain people can buy an Action Replay and others can't. It's unfair to you because you don't have one or don't use it for this purpose. Understandable to feel this way if you take the time to breed for pokemon... but by this logic wouldn't it be unfair for a person who has less time to breed battling a person who has more time? You said it yourself you breed to get an advantage so suddenly it's unfair when it gets taken away and we're put on an even playing field??

Seriously? "You can hack too" is a solution?!

Its unfair that someone has to PAY to get an even playing field with the person who "didnt have enough time" and took away the advantage that someone worked for.

Honestly, im all for an even playing field and if IVs were scrapped from the game design then that would be fine by me, but the matter of the fact is the game simply wasn't designed that way. IVs are there for a reason, it rewards people who put effort into the game.

Yes thats right effort, and effort takes time. Simply having "no time" is not an excuse and is unfair on the people who work for it

Alright, I battled all the legendaries before I decided to actually think abotu using them. So, if I were to use the codes that allowed me to fight them again, but I soft reset for them as per usually, syncrhonize, etc, would a fair amount of people be against stuff like that?
