The Cricket Thread Part Deux

Its going to be difficult to chose Chaser. I'd take them both :-). Isn't it funny that among the mainstream teams throughout the years only India has unable to finds bowlers that can consistently bowl at 140 km/hr. In Australia, Pakistan etc its so common and here in India we can't find a single bowler who can do it consistently

Australia had a thrilling 2 run victory over Pakistan in the 20/20 match. Pakistan did very well to bowl out Australia for 127 with good fielding and Umar Gul taking 3/20. Australia then looked like they were going to lose when Pakistan were at 4/98 in the 15th over, until Kamran Akmal got out with 64 from 33 balls. Shaun Tait bowled exceptionally for Australia getting 3/14 and bowled over 160km/hr.

Also I decided to do India vs South Africa fantasy on cricinfo.

My team is

Vijay
Prince
De Villiers
Amla
Badrinath
Kallis
Dhoni
H Singh
M Morkel
Parnell
I Sharma

Yeah no Gambhir or Tendulkar as they are too expensive, I probably would've got Gambhir by dropping Singh/Ishant for Mishra/Ojha if I knew who was going to playout of the last two. Vijay and Badrinath have good first class records though.

Difficult to say.........with Pakistan expect the unexpected............Yousuf didn't seem to fond of Butt. So thats a possibility. But what I don't understand is why say someone is disrupting the Harmony but refused to tell us who.........I mean whats the point.......besides leading to endless speculation and fueling rumors that there are different groups within the Pakistani team......I don't think there is a point

wow just wow...

India lose the first test within 4 days and what a way to come back. An innings defeat in front of a great crowd. Amla is probably the best player of spin bowling SA has produced. India still #1 =)

I wish there was another test instead of 2 ODI's. This is what I hate about 2 test series. They are useless

The first double century in ODIs! Tendulkar, you little monster.

In other news, Kieswetter scored 143 on his senior team debut. England finally have someone with the potential to fill the void, at the top of the order, left by Marcus Trescothick's international retirement.

Saaachin double ton! I knew it would happen one of these days. No body builds an innings better then him.

Btw is anyone gonna make the smogon IPL fantasy league on cricinfo? I had fun last time around. I almost caught up to Kumar, lol

Tendulkar is amazing, nothing more needs to be said. Out of interest I looked at his performances over the last year in ODIs (might do the same but for tests) and in 18 innings he's got 7 scores of 50+ (4 hundreds including the 200* and 3 50-99s), which I think is just fucking brilliant. Oh, and he's averaged 75 for that period of a year too.

Good to see NZ beat Aussie, but I'm not so sure about the current match. Could go either way, as long as Guptill and Styris stay in.

Also, Hip, what do you think will happen when Ryder comes back? We'll actually have an abundance of openers for a change lol.

Of course tests are the best to watch, but that's just my personal preference. Most people these days don't appreciate tests. =/

EDIT: Just looked at Tendulkar's test performances in the last year. Average of 78, 6 hundreds and 3 50s in 15 innings. 66% conversion rate is pretty spectacular really.

Ryder will definitely hold the opening slot. Ingram isnt very good. I am hopeful he will be dropped before the tests..

It'll be interesting to see the selection for tuesdays ODI. I think the experiment with Broom and Franklin has to come to an end. Broom at least has had that slot for a year, and only one 50 against Bangladesh to show for it. When they send him away I think they have to be clear about what he has to do to get that slot back. I mean, I dont think he is a bad batsman, but he isnt coping with international competition at the moment, and they cant get away with keeping him there against a team like Aussie, especially with a lot of their key top order players missing..

I'd go with McCullum, Watling, Guptil, Taylor (if fit), Styris, Vettori, Hopkins, Tuffey, Bond, Southee and then some other seamer to fill the 5th bowler slot that isnt Michael Mason.

Watling gets in on the strength of scoring a hundred in the domestic final, and his 60 against Pakistan. Basically it shows he can score big when it matters the most. Though, I havent actually seen him play in limited overs cricket, so that is slightly tentative..

The extra bowler is because Franklin isnt really good, and while Styris is pretty reliable, having only 5 bowling options is really dangerous. Especially with the injuries we have been having. I dont want to be relying on Guptill. Arnel I guess?

If Taylor is still out, I'd bump up Styris to 4, and then bring someone in. My preference is Lou Vincent. But since it is pretty obvious the selectors have no intention of doing any such thing, which puts me in a real quandry.. The popular choice among other people is Kane Williamson, and I'd like to give him more time, but I'd be happy enough with that..

Thats a hell of a lot of changes to a squad.. Perhaps its not really plausible..

Have a nice day.

I agree, although Ingram hasn't been so bad.
Broom at least has had that slot for a year, and only one 50 against Bangladesh to show for it.
I think the problem with Broom is he always seems to get really good balls first up lol. but yeah I reckon they need him down the order to be what McCullum used to be. He has proven before he can finish an innings pretty well. Also don't forget he's pretty amazing in the field.
some other seamer to fill the 5th bowler slot that isnt Michael Mason.
I'm tempted to say "why not Jeetan Patel", but his performances against Bangladesh keep my mouth shut. Arnel I guess is probably the right answer.
I havent actually seen him play in limited overs cricket
Neither have I, sadly. His test performances have been ok so far though.
My preference is Lou Vincent.
God yes. I mean look what Styris has done since being pretty much out of contention for any international cricket, and Vincent has always been better than Styris (imo).

I've been quite impressed with Hopkins so far, and having McCullum in the outfield is by no means detrimental. Tbh I'm really liking the team atm, despite the fact changes have to be made.

It is IPL season so you know what that means...

SMOGON FANTASY CRICKET!!

Sign up and create your team here (T20 league). Then click "join league" and paste the following LPIN: 98923-302d255d4aeedd7a

What is the best type of cricket to watch? I personally prefer 20/20 the others are just to boring
T20 can be quite boring at times. You might get the odd close finish but usually its one sided. At the halfway stage you know which team will win. For me its test cricket. The last 20 overs of Ind vs SA second test were really something else.

Also I signed up for the league.

And McCullum's 116 was epic. I watched it on youtube like a good 3 or 4 times. Can't get enough of that scoop shot against shaun tait and co xD

Imo the scoop shot is a horrible gimmick.

Also damn there are a lot of players to choose from in the IPL fantasy cricket. So many that I cbf making a team. =/

The horrible gimmick however got Marillier Zimbabwe home against India and almost against Australia. And "Marillier shot" is a better name.

who cares the fact that he was able to hit yorkers for 4's and 6's was awesome. I mean isn't that why people watch T20 cricket? For that kind of stuff.

I joined the fantasy league (I'm otaku-dono).

Agreeing at woah Pakistan, that's two of their best batsmen for last decade gone. Kinda harsh considering how much success Yousuf and Younis have brought Pakistan.
