The Dark Knight [Unmarked Spoilers Within - Enter at risk]

Way too overly complicated plot for a comic book movie, long as hell, Batman's voice was even more fucked up than in the first one, but there was one thing that I will agree with on this movie.....Joker was a fucking BEAST!!!!!!!!!!

how is two face a spoiler? you shouldn't go see the movie if you don't know who harvey dent is, haha. also...they show him in the trailers. so...yeah. not a spoiler. just wanted to defend the people that were mentioning him.

The only reason it might be considered a "spoiler" was if someone didn't read the comics and thus know that Harvey Dent became Two-Face, or they might not have known that he would become Two-Face in the first movie with him in it. In any case, I saw it on saturday and thought the movie was excellent, I'd say tied with Iron Man for my favorite movie of '08.

actually, i felt the batman voice was very good/realistic. think about it. he's a guy who is 1). trying to act intimidating and 2). trying to disguise his voice. why the hell would he talk in his normal voice? If he did, he wouldn't sound intimidating at all, and his voice would be easily recognizable. i don't know why more people don't realize that.

I have to agree that Bale's Batman voice sounds sort of overdone, but everyone should see this movie just because Ledger is fucking incredible.

Hmmm...I don't get why more people don't realize there's a difference between changing your voice a little and making yourself sound stoned.

Yes i completely agree, Batman on his common voice sounds just normal or even kind of snobby.

I actually like the "stoned" version of his voice.

Incredible,

I recall only a couple weeks before, walking out of Wanted saying, "Movies these days are incredibly action packed with high budget special effects, but I'm feeling that the storylines are getting worse and worse from the days of the godfather and schindler's list"

Boy did The Dark Knight prove me wrong. There was a sufficient array of action, and amazing visuals, but there was a story to cement it. The dark and psychological feel to the movie really set it apart from the likes of Spiderman and Superman.

What truly makes Batman shine, in my opinion, is the fact that he's without a real super power. He is simply at the pinnacle of perfection and discipline, both in his body, and as a wealthy billionaire businessman/playboy. But Batman's flaw is his necessity to put on masks, and shift his persona, from Bruce Wayne, to Batman, and back. As it was stated at the end of Batman Begins, by Rachel, that "[Bruce] is just a mask, the real face is the one that the criminals now fear." The Dark Knight deals with this and the Joker, especially attempts to exploits this, by constantly trying to make Batman break his moral code (Which you will see 2-3 times in the Dark Knight, but I don't want to reveal now).

Overall, an excellent performance by the villians, and Bale.

so i just saw it

and really i came out sort of underwhelmed

yea ledger was incredable, but everyone says the same thing about anyone who plays a crazy person well

also the movie was much longer then it should have been =/

I was of the impression that Batman's mask had a device built into it to distort his voice. I mean, it would be REALLY hard to talk in that deep of a voice for long periods of time. Also, there is a scene where Batman has a conversation with Lucious, and his voice is still deep even though Lucious knows about Batman's identity.

I also saw the movie for the second time today (that's how much I loved it), and I really like how you notice little things after seeing it again. For example, I suggest you pay attention to Ramirez a little more closely if anyone decides to see it again.

That's not what a stoned person sounds like at all just fyi.

I just got back from seeing it and my neck is killing me. I bought tickets a half hour before showtime but was starving so I went to get something to eat real quick. Got into the theater 10 minutes before and literally all the seats after the first 2 rows were taken up. I was first row in the center for this movie and still enjoyed it despite having such a bad angle. You can't even focus on the whole screen at once from down there so I'll have to see this again at some point before it leaves theaters..

This was not the best movie ever made. Now with that out of the way, this was a really good movie. One of the best released this year for sure. I enjoyed a lot of the twists and turns the plot had and the actors in general were spot on. I don't understand all the complaints against Christian Bale.. I don't know if you guys were expecting Adam West or what, but Batman isn't some lively, interesting superhero. He is supposed to be serious, dark and on the verge of dull. He is the foil to the Joker. They even mention this in the fucking movie. Anything else would not have fit. The Batman voice is fine, I'm not really sure what you could do differently about it. The hype around Heath Ledger was somewhat justified and I am disappointed/sad that we won't have him for another movie. He played the part well and as others have said, it will be hard, if not impossible, to replace him. I didn't realize Harvey Dent was in this movie at all going in (I refused to look at anything regarding this movie until I actually saw it), so that was a nice surprise. Overall, very enjoyable and I'd go see it again.

Everything I would want to say has been said so I am just going to mention my favorite storyline. Aaron Eckhardt was incredible as Harvey Dent and it's only because Heath Ledger's role was more flashy that his acting was better. Eckhardt destroyed as Dent and his entire storyline which many critics have said was the weakest definitely stood up to Gordon's, Batman's, and the Joker's storylines.

evan always rooting for the indie guy

but carls post basically sums up my thoughts exactly, as i just saw the film.

I knew nothing about batman at all coming in (like absolutely nothing), and at times i found it difficult to follow completely, but there were some neat plot twists, I especially enjoyed the boat scene at the end.

Ledger was unforgettable, just psychotic. Brilliant.

Well,I suppose that's because I like the Dent/Two-Face story a lot more than the Joker's. Especially since there's actually a story there and you can trace how the character evolves and whatnot.

The Joker is the most diabolical character I have seen in the big screen. I knew so little about Batman coming into this movie (only seeing Batman Begins at first, and I didn't pay much attention to that movie), but I felt that Scarecrow was the only character I recognized from the previous movie. I'm also not saying this was the best movie ever made, but I am still shocked at what I saw last night watching the movie. I would ask "Are you serious?" after each demented act the Joker created. It was such a magnificent movie.

I really liked every character in the movie. I didn't see that much of a weakness in the characters, but I definitely agree that Harvey Dent's evolving character was great to see.

Another thing I would love to mention is the morality in the film. I guess that's as far as I'll go since I might bring up some spoilers, but I did have some things to think about if I were ever in those certain situations, however crazy, unlikely, and life-threatening they are.

I haven't watched a Batman movie since the original (with Jack Nickolson and Michael Keaton), loved every second of it (well, most of them). It's not a kind of "wow, what a great movie!" kind of feeling, I'm just simply in awe. The original post reflected my feelings exactly.

Not having read any of the comic books, I never had heard of Two-Face. So yeah I agree that should be whited out as a spoiler.

Well with crazy plot twists, amazing acting, great special effects, gripping story and everything else positive you can say about a movie,

It was good.

Heath Ledger was incredible, it is so sad that he died so young though. I can honestly think of no flaws with this movie. Best movie I've ever seen... I'm at a loss for words.

This might be up there, in terms of best movies ever. I cant think of a better action movie.. I mean maybe you could say I'm caught up in hype, but I dont watch a lot of movies twice, and this one was as good or better than any I can think of now.. Maybe City of God, but that isnt really an easy comparisson.

The whole dent thing was pretty much exactly what it would have been nice if starwars eps 1-3 had been.

Have a nice day.

came out yesterday here. Better than Iron Man. Heath Ledger was perfect as the Joker. Oh man, now that I know this is being shown in the IMAX theatres I want to see this again. And I never see films twice in the cinema.

The only problem I had with this film was that Christian Bale sounded a bit stupid when trying to sound intimidating.

I am pretty sure that you should not read a movie review thread if you do not want to run into any spoilers.

Firestorm, they kind of got a disaster with how they set up the entire last hour of the movie for the Joker to come back as (I am assuming) one of two or three main villains in the next movie. It was strongly hinted at every turn %___%

evan, Aaron Eckhart was good UNTIL he became Two-Face, I thought. He is not really good at any role besides the snarky humorous guy, so far as i can tell, and it showed in that he is not able to convincingly act angry or psychotic at all ever. About the only actually convincing part was when he screamed SAY IT.

However, the worst part is Maggie Gyllenhall SHE IS SO UGLY AHHHHH!! She was uglier than Two-Face.

Yeah, I personally avoided this thread until I saw it. I do the same with all games and movies though. Yes, I think that some of what Joker said hinted at him being a recurring character. I do hope he isn't anymore. Nobody can top Ledger's performance.

For film and tv, what really makes me like a piece is characters. Ledger was an amazing Joker. No stupid external motivation, he was just in it for shits and giggles and you could tell. He also felt much more integrated with the movie than any villain in the Spiderman movies or really any movie I've seen. The thing with the movie is, it felt long, but a good kind of long. It didn't feel like just a summer blockbuster that's over before you know it because a third of the movie was just big explosions. It felt like it had a real plot and a real story to tell.

Damn. I kinda wanna go and see it again in IMAX.

Just saw this, Movie was just amazing. Heath Ledger gave evil and insane a new name. Like cookie said on irc, I can't see anyone ever wanting to play Joker again after his work.

Plot was very good and the characters all brought something to the table. I have to agree that this was one of the best movies I had ever seen.

The beginning was excellent as well (Bank Robbery and Joker Introduction). Awesome movie.
