PS WHAT THE FUCK CANADA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Sabres finally looked like a good team last night, but we always have the Sharks' number. And lol at Lightning and Roloson.

Eager took a double minor midway through the first period, leading to one power-play goal, then was ejected after being assessed a match penalty for intent to injure when he punched the Leafs' Colby Armstrong in the eye at 17:05 of the second. Toronto scored four times during the long power play to blow the game wide open.

hahahaha. Oh god.

...Injuries to Red Wings

At least we put out the Flames in the SO and swept the series in front of their faces, but still this a bunch of crap.

I just wanna check something: A broken stick resulting from a slash is still an automatic penalty, right? It's NOT a situation where the flames player calmly goes to the bench and the red wings player looks confused and acts innocent...TWO TIMES THIS HAPPENED.

It was a great game but I honestly wonder why the refs weren't involved in the post game on ice celebration of the win, cause the wings need all the points they can get.

But honestly, the NHL got what it wanted: overtime + shoot out, red wings winning, flames losing. Sounds paranoid but just look at HOW FUCKING MANY shoot outs or three point games there are.

Not so sure broadcasters would enjoy longer OT, games need to end in 3 hours time. Shootouts guarantee that. The alternative is going back to allowing ties.

I also really enjoy shootouts, especially when they drag longer than the 3 chosen shooters, I go out of my way to watch them on a stream whenever I see a game going to OT and am disappointed if a goal is scored before. Besides, they are not that common, only about 1 game out of 10 go to a shootout. If you limit yourself to follow only one team, that is about one shootout a month. The Montreal Canadiens fans had to wait 40 games to see their first one.

They are really exciting, they are crowd pleasers, I've wanted them for years before they finally added them in and they are there to stay.

Would love to see shootouts go, since I think it's an incredibly inane way to determine which hockey team is better than the other as it's only vaguely related to hockey at best, but like hockey in the south it is here to stay as Bettman makes mostly ill-fated attempts to bring in casual fans who aren't likely to magically start caring. There have been a lot of very good suggestions by the GMs who are more of purists about alternatives (I am a fan of adding 5 more minutes of 3on3 which I know has been brought up a few times) but I'm skeptical anything will be done. fwiw in the US at least TV broadcasts really don't have much to do with it; there's only about 10 games a year on NBC during the regular season (which is good since we wouldn't want them to have to cutoff another game to show us horse racing pregame) and there is basically never anything other than bad postgame shows on the other networks that show hockey here, which are exclusively Versus and local sports networks.

A) There are a lot of reasons sticks can break other than a slash so while that is usually a gimmie it's not like refs can go "oh, broken stick, that's definitely a penalty."

B) Having watched that game I think you're probably looking at the game through some pretty brightly tinted homer fan glasses if you think the refs were biased against you that night. see also: the fact kostopoulos pretty obviously should have gotten 5 + 10 and will most definitely be spinning the wheel of justice shortly. the refs let a lot go both ways.

EDIT: speaking of which, 6 for Kostoupolos which i think is the most an NHLer has gotten this year?

To put my own fan blinders on for a moment, I find it pretty disgusting when organizations defend fairly obviously dirty hits like this one. The lack of accountability in professional sports is worrying. Teams and their management shouldn't be defending players who do shit like this - not going to go away until even the people "on your side" stop saying it's ok. Funny kostoupolos was sure enough hed get suspended he didnt even attend the meeting but is still whining that he shouldnt have been suspended. This organization is a joke.

EDIT2: Incidentally this makes Eager getting 4 for punching someone with his glove on THAT MUCH sillier!

Just posting to laugh at all the people that had the Hurricanes ranked 14/15 in their predictions. (Pretty much everybody but 1 person.)

Edit: Also the people with NJ at 4 (Pretty much everybody.)

Edit2: Here is where predictions start if anybody wants to go back and look: http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29827&page=168

I randomly clicked Page 168 in search of predictions and it just so happened to be the perfect guess.
