The Everything NHL Thread

I don't even get why people say the Canucks are bad in the playoffs. Based on the regular season standings, you would predict the #1 and #2 seeds to make it to round 3, and the #3 seed (usually the Canucks) would make it to round 2. Their seasons and post-seasons are consistent.

Well the past 2 years they played the Blackhawks and Luongo seemed to crack pretty damn hard in both series.

I am seriously thinking the only thing the canucks have to worry about in the west is Detroit, save for 1st or second round heroics by some upstart goalie. In the east I'd be shitting a bit about Boston's depth as well as phillie being a wrecking ball. Man when did the east become better than the west? Jeeeesus!

The west is still way better than the East. Once you start getting to #10 in the East, the are basically the equivalent of #15 in the West. The West is pretty much competitive all the way down to #14.

I'd definitely agree the West is still by far the stronger conference - better constructed, deeper teams. Outside of Philly and Pittsburgh no one in the East seems super legit right now but I think any of the top 10 or so in the West could turn it on and win the cup pretty feasibly. Vancouver, obviously, is far and away the best team in the conference right now but I think if I were them and Detroit I would greatly dislike the way the standings look right now - very, very feasible they could catch LA or SJ in the first round after a probable rebound by either team and while they haven't played to expectations this year they both have the weapons to be elite teams if they can pull things together.

Really happy about the all-star captain picks. I'm not sure I'll actually watch the game, but really like the gesture of picking Lidstrom in what could be his last year and will almost certainly be his last year with this type of crazy production and Staal as the hometown captain. Classy. Cool since it was apparently a vote by the all-star players too, reminds me why I like hockey players.

Washington, Boston, Montreal, Tampa and Pittsburgh are all capable of being top teams to say the the least. You know when a team like Washington isn't setting the pace in the east that the east could be very terrifying to play against.

I'm predicting the cup goes east this year :(

Dear lord, how did edmonton come up with the shortest end of the "all star superheroes" stick?

He will probably get claimed on re-entry waivers.
Figure the Islanders can use him atleast, DiPietro is not stable yet and probably never will be.

Bull... Wings were deadline close to getting Nabby... I wanna strangle the guy who came up with the rule that foreigners heading to the NHL must pass through waivers first. What reasoning is there?
I feel bad for Nabokov, comes back to the NHL and is forced to play for the Islanders... LOL

Nabokov has said that he will not report to the Islanders, so he doesn't have to play and I don't blame him. At 35 without a cup ring, do you really want to tend for the Islanders?

I expect the Islanders to place him on waivers again and he will eventually make his way back to Detroit.

Imagine how ironic it would be if the Sharks claimed him though =P.

"doesn't have to play"

If he doesn't, he's probably going to be suspended for the rest of the season. Apparently that means he owes the Islanders a year or something at $570K. If what I saw on Sportsnet is correct, he's either playing for the Islanders or not at all.

lol wishful thinking

Both Sid and Geno out of the All-Star game, plus Enstrom and others. Fucking injuries. It's pathetic that it takes the face of the league to get hit in the head repeatedly before the majority of people finally sit down and say, "hmmm, maybe we should do something." Fucktards.

I'm pretty excited that Skinner was promoted to the All-Star roster. I also think it is hilarious that Jamie McBain will now be participating in the Rookie Skills Competition. He is pretty much the worst defenseman I've ever witnessed.

Now I just have to hope that Lidstrom doesn't try to steal Ward and Skinner from Staal so the crowd won't be confused about which team to cheer for.

Sabres go into the break on a 9-3-1 run (two of those losses to the Islanders, inexplicably). Watch out East.

Lookin' at the standings...

By some miracle, the Flames actually have a chance at making the playoffs...
Also, i feel sorry for any poor soul trying to predict who's gonna make the playoffs in the West. I've been changing my expectations for the past 3 weeks or so...

East is kind of shaping out to be-

1. Philadelphia
2. Tampa Bay
3. Boston
4. Pittsburgh
5. Washington
6. Montreal/NYR
7. Montreal/NYR
8. Carolina

A New York vs Boston Series would be interesting, but...
...Lol, Ovi vs Crosby. I can see all 7 games on NBC.
