It looks like it bounced off the stanchion, not the Vancouver player.

Based on that quality alone, it does appear as if it did hit off the stanchion. However, the quality is pretty bad, and it's inconclusive at best. Plus, I can't tell for sure that if it did hit off the stanchion, whether it did deflect off Sedin again afterwards (looks possible in the video, where the puck slightly overlaps Daniel's frame) so there's that too.

My Day 1 stanley cup finals matchup prediction is one match from happening.

These have been great playoffs so far.

:)

seeing as how Dwayne Roloson is literally impossible to beat in elimination games, I present to you YOUR 2011 Stanley Cup Champions, THE Tampa Bay Lightning

I haven't said anything so far this offseason...

But am I weird for hating playoff hockey? It feels like I'm watching a pre-lockout game. There is no fucking neutral zone speed whatsoever and everyone is getting away with defensive zone murder. If the refs insist on swallowing their whistles I'm going to force my dick in there too.

Doesn't happen all that often that the Q league wins the Memorial Cup (9th times in 93 years?) so I'm in need of mentionning the incredible season the St Johns Sea Dogs have had.

They won 77 of their about 90 games this season in route to win both the Q league and the Canadian Memorial Cup with a team packed of young Québec talent that were either already drafted in the first round (Simon Despres) or are about to (MVP Jonathan Huberdeau). The team was an absolute powerhouse and they completed their season as they should have, winning everything.

My fantasy themed team still holds a great future.

God my parents went crazy with the B's winning. I was kinda pissed how the sharks lost, that was some lucky b/s tbh and a crappy way to lose. But anyway, I guess I'll root for Vancouver, because it will be a long hockey season for me, if the B's win the cup. I will be harassed non stop. It should be interesting, Bruins are very defensive while Vancouver is an offensive team. If Vancouver just pours it on, I think they have a pretty good shot in winning.

Uh Oh, now the Oilers might actually have a CHOICE to make between Nugent-Hopkins and Jonathan Huberdeau. Didn't think Nugent-Hopkins would have a rival this year...

STANLEY CUP FINALS MATCHUP:

#1 Cansucks vs. #3 Bruins

Prediction: Cansucks are the better team on paper, but they're also made out of paper. Chara continues trend of checking Americans into the stanchion and takes Kesler out of the series. Sedin sisters play like the soft Euros they are, averaging 80 dives per game. Thomas lights out for the majority of the series, posts 4 shutouts. Canucks D-Men give up 5-0 breakaways every period leading to empty net goals as Luongo skates behind the net to choke. Seguin averages 18 PPG, scoring three hat tricks per, leading Gretzky to call him the greatest player in the history of the game.

TL;DR: Cansucks suck it so hard and choke
Bruins in 6

Winnipeg pretty much confirmed.

This relocation needs to be a huge success so that I get my team back. I'm afraid a moderate success might be enough that Bettman will have a great excuse not to move another team up north.

Probably would be a good idea to change that ugly logo, those ugly colours and possibly even the team's name to one that isn't used by another pro league.

I'm assuming Detroit will get their way and move to the East now, they've been pushing for that since forever. I sure won't mind seeing them more often.

Oooohhh, that's one more city that burns to the ground if their team doesn't win... :P

Goodness, the official realignment WILL BE

Manitoba to the NW
Minnesota to the Central
Nashville to the SE

I don't understand why people keep speculating this

That or Columbus are the only moves that make sense, from a competitive standpoint. I really don't like the idea of taking Detroit out of that division (or the West at all) because they have spent the last eon building some great rivalries. I'd hate to see those get lost in the shuffle. C-Bus is still new enough that they can play anybody and their fans still won't care. I think the Preds should stay too, they're finally looking relevant.

Moving Columbus would be a better move in my opinion. They've got a relatively small fan base, and having them watch away games at 10 pm EST is brutal for any casual fan. Bringing them to the East would also expose them to super stars like Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, Steve Stamkos, and other super stars that the casual fan can begin to appreciate. Plus, the East is a slight bit weaker in comparison with the West, and it would be nice to see them in the playoffs sometime soon.

Detroit has a strong fan base, and is pretty much a hockey town. Moving them to the East makes sense, but in terms of revenue and for the optimal success for small town markets, moving Columbus would be a better choice. Detroit is in the making of a good rivalry with San Jose and has (had?) one with Colorado, especially in the early 2000's. Would hate that to go away.

In other news, Vancouver takes a huge blow in their farm system. Manitoba is allegedly moving to St John's, and they've been training our prospects for some time, and they've done a damn good job of it.

Predictions for Cup:

Sedins score 1000+ points, Kesler wins Conn Smythe, Luongo posts 4 shutouts, Canucks in 4.

Seriously, Canucks in 7, teams take all their games at home, Kesler takes the Conn Smythe, play like the MVP he is, especially with Malholtra freeing him up from his defensive assignments and key face off assignments. Timmy Thomas and Luongo post stellar stats, and are both key players, but Vancouver's defense smothers Boston's offense, and Boston does the same, with less success. Relatively low scoring games, with the highest game going up to 4 goals for one team. Special teams come into play, with Boston picking up their power play after their holyshitwhatthefuckisthis power play in the previous series, but not good enough to win it. Vancouver's power play takes a step back with Boston having a good penalty kill, but also keeps up their momentum on the PK, especially after Game 4 and 5 of last series. Face offs goes to Vancouver by a small margin; the return of Malholtra helps match against Krejci's and Bergeron's great face off stats.

Curious to hear people's opinions on the Winnipeg franchise's name. While the popular vote clearly goes for the Jets (see WinnipegSun poll, CBC poll etc.), it seems executives at True North are strongly considering branching out and branding the team "Manitoba _____", among other possible nicknames.

I, born, raised and living in Winnipeg, would be absolutely crushed if the team was named anything but the Winnipeg Jets. I feel it is a symbolic rebirth, with Winnipeggers strongly attached to the name.

Some argue that from a marketing perspective, they could make more money from selling merchandise by having a new name. I feel this is over simplifying the fact, as a large amount of dollars will be spent promoting the new name to a city that would be generally unaccepting, and a simple Jets logo/jersey redesign would work wonders for selling merchandise.

Even if they decide to go with a new team name, everyone knows we will be chanting "Go Jets Go" at every home game.

Thoughts?

Good for the (ex-)Thrashers organization. I'm not really a fan of the NHL, but they were obviously not wanted here in Atlanta. Hell, one of the few games I went to was one of their first playoff games ever, and the damn game didn't even sell out.

Plus, with actual fans in the seats, the new owners will have the money to actually get players that can play!

I'm also born and raised in Winnipeg.

I don't really care about the team name as long as it isn't terrible. I'm fine with Falcons, Jets, even Roughriders (I still think that would be the funniest thing ever).

People will move on from the past eventually and accept a new name as long as it isn't the Winnipeg Spirited Energy.
