Seeing Vancouver and Pittsburgh getting completely dominated 3-0 makes me feel incredibly happy, basically vindicating everything I know and love about the NHL. Seeing Luongo make $7mil for sitting on the bench during the playoffs brightened my day, and seeing Mr. Concussion Crosby sucker punching people made it even better. Unlike DM, I am not sarcastic when I say I'm glad this game was nationally televised, because it finally exposes the Penguins as the chumps I called them last month. The Bruins could lose the next 3 in a row and I would still leave these playoffs a happy fan if VAN+PIT get humiliated in the first round by teams who pride themselves on physical play.
And yeah the punishments have been pretty weird so far. I just worry that it'll have a rubber band effect, like they get criticized so the next ones will be overly harsh.
Also, congrats to the Florida Panthers for winning their first playoff game in 15 years. That was a really cool moment when they saluted the roaring fans at the end of the game.
Pittsburgh is a team that employs Matt Cooke. That's not an accident.

Edit: I'm pretty sure that whoever starts next game will be the #1 next season, and the other will be traded. If that said goalie wins the game, the Canucks will stick with him throughout the rest of the playoffs (however short it may be). Also, AV's probably gone if we can't get this series to 7 games. He's been here for 6 years and is getting outcoached pretty badly and we do have MacTavish in the wings waiting with the Chicago Wolves, our farm team. Gillis is safe, but he'll be on a hotter seat than last year.
Do you know what you are even talking about? Gillis brought in Pahlsson to replace Hodgson (for a ECHLer and two 4th rounders), which is a clear upgrade. Hodgson hadn't been scoring consistently (apart from the monstrous January he had), and he was a huge defensive liability in his own zone, as the Red Wings game showed. Kassian hasn't even played a year in the NHL and there are many who peg him to be a good power forward (people with more credibility than you I might add), and he even shows flashes of greatness from time to time even without playing a full season. Hodgson was a scrub 4th liner center in his first year, and the entire Canucks fanbase was screaming at Gillis for a trade then; I guess Kassian is held to another higher standard?
And 5.3 mil/year for a top 10 goalie, and his money-heavy years are behind him in his contract, yeah of course no one would take him.
Kassian is the player the Canucks needed, but he isn't ready to be that player yet. It's also arguable if Luongo is a top 10 goalie (IMO he isn't), and I honestly wouldn't trade for him. He also has a NTC (not sure of the details) so even if someone wants him, chances are he doesn't want to be there (he better hope Phoenix moves to QC!)
