CAMPBELL TO FLORIDA FUCK YES, I mean I love the guy but that 7 mil cap hit had to GO

solid second line center and some sick wingers OH YEAH

Did you guys hear that as soon as the Bruins made their awesome first round picks, rioters set fire to the city of Vancouver?

You and jrrrrrrrr would make great buddies.

Campbell trade makes sense for Florida. They're not spending to the cap, helps them hit the cap floor. They can absorb the huge hit, and get Campbell to mentor the young players that are coming in the Florida system. And why the fuck did Campbell waive his NTC to go to Florida. It's the place where hockey players go to die.

Chicago gets a good bit of cap space to sign a few depth players. They lose a great puck moving defenseman though. And Olsez is a plug from what I heard. If their defense can weather the loss of Campbell (Campoli gets to play on the 2nd pairing? LOL), then they'll come out in a much better shape.

Edit: Looks like Olsez is injured, so no buying out. Chances are, he'll suffer Huet's fate. Eat up his salary and not suffer a cap hit.

I enjoy that Toronto essentially traded Kaberle for Liles...

I'm kind of shocked that LA apparently have multiple suitors for Ryan Smyth's terrible contract. Mind-blowing, really.

Kaberle for Liles + the draft pick (which is essentially a lower draft player + Biggs in the end), for a player not likely to resign with Toronto. Good deal if Toronto can trade Liles for something else or resign him before next year.

I like the deal for Edmonton, not so much for Calgary. Calgary doesn't really need an old forward, but I guess he can fill in for Morrison if they decide not to resign him. It also messes up their cap situation quite a bit.

Edmonton hasn't been spending to the cap IIRC, they're also buying out Sheldon Souray IIRC, so they can afford the hit, and he's also an experienced forward that can help out their young team. He also WANTS to be there, which is huge for a city like Edmonton. Gilbert Brule might have hit the ceiling as a 3rd line power forward.

Can the Bruins get any nastier on D? *shudder*

Their first round pick is a nasty defenseman and a legit goal scoring threat. I'm shuddering too. The B's didn't have anyone in the top 25 in scoring last year so this can only be an improvement.

I also heard that Boston had a wonderful parade with 15 times as many people a couple days later :D

The City of Champions welcomes all.

Devils get Larsson, which is awesome.

Hopefully the new coach will emphasize playing defense like Lemaire reminded them how to do and we'll go back to being perennial contenders instead of missing the playoffs...

Also having a healthy team should help

Kind of a stupid draft pick for the Jets but not terrible, we should have taken hamilton or one of those other centers. I'm still just happy there's a team though...............................

The B's got Alexander Khocklachev as well? *shudders even more* Point per game potential gives me goosebumps. It seems they can't do anything wrong these days... *sigh* Wha's wrong with KH, AK's stats are WAY better than Jurco's.... Very frustrated...

I like how Regier's first big move in like forever is a hose job on the Flames.

I was on the golf course yesterday when the trade came through, my buddies and I had an awesome day laughing about it. I really didn't want Kotalik back, that happened because Calgary just threw him in the trade to get rid of him, but he played his best hockey here and can do it again. But FUCK YES A SHUT DOWN DEFENSEMAN, exactly what we need. He shoots left, so pair him with Myers and all of a sudden our top pair just got downright nasty.

Fantastic deal. I love what Lombardi is doing out there, I am beginning to consider them serious contenders.

Not sure who Lombardi will target next though. They have a good amount of cap space, so they'll sign Doughty to a long term contract and go after a UFA. They have approximately 16 mil in space, so assuming Doughty gets a 5 mil/year contract and they use another 4-5 mil to sign depth players, they have around 6-7 mil to play around with. If they don't go into the Brad Richards sweepstakes, I can see them going after Gagne or Leino. That would make them fucking terrifying.

Buffalo got a good deal out of the trade. Solid defenseman to complement Myers and to help further his development. Kotalik may or may not be a liability, but hopefully he'll show some semblance of the offense everyone projected him to have.

In other news, the NHL might split the divisions into 8/7 team divisions with 4 of them. Playoffs would be divisional play, and then reseeded for conference play. Not sure how I feel about this.

Sources are sayin DL wants to add Gagne to the roster list (interpret DL anyway you want...)

I'm enjoying the excellent GMing by a lot of the GMs lately; Smyth trade works for both sides and obviously makes LA a lot better this year instead of a lot better next year if they can reinvest the money well. Sabres getting Regehr for essentially nothing is nice, especially in a year that there are only a handful of free agent defenseman available that everyone will want... finally having an excellent coach and GM in Buffalo might matter now that they have an owner that can let them work.

The one recently praised move I'm not as big on is the Campbell trade -- the idea of getting rid of him is great and all but Olesz is just as bad relative to his salary as Campbell is, just at half the price and almost half the length. The issue is now the Hawks need a new 2nd pairing defenseman to replace Campbell and i'm not completely sold that whoever they get + Olesz is going to have a better performance than Campbell + plug 3rd liner signing even if it saves them a million or two.

I for one like Detroit's Jurco pick a lot, though I doubt we'll be seeing him in the pros for four or five years at least. His skillset is what Detroit tends to target though, on the right path to be a Filppula/Datsyuk-type. Would definitely agree with J-man about the Khokawhatever pick by Boston being the next best pick of the round though, between them getting him and the Flyers getting Couturier the balance of power in the East doesn't seem to be changing much. My Caps are still a step behind though I love the Brouwer acquisition if they can get him locked up... not really a top line type player but he'd be a better fit there than Knuble was when the two Russian snipers are split up(can we please trade Semin?).

Also lol @ 5mill a year for Doughty, maybe if they sign him until he's 50 to spread that cap hit out.

I really like what the Sens have done (in terms of drafting), and acquiring Filatov for a 3rd round pick is pretty awesome (especially since Murray doesn't seem to like russians).

So it sounds like Florida is where all unpopular Blackhawks go when they aren't wanted anymore in Chitown...

Kennedy also hasn't been given an offer yet... HMMMMMMM......

So uh... pleasantly surprised Caps managed to resign Laich, since that Brouwer trade had me worried it wouldn't happen, though he cost enough that getting said Brouwer and Karl Alzner under the cap will basically capout the caps. Market value signing, but the way the cap is rising it's reasonable, though it makes me jealous of contracts for similar players elsewhere in the league like Vancouver's Burrows. Not being able to make another pickup and apparently not firing Boudreau have me ready to writeoff 11-12 for Washington if they don't trade Green this summer, but with Green, Semin, Fehr, Knuble, Carlson!, Chimera, and Wideman's contracts coming up next year it'll be a convenient time to blow the team up if they blow it again next year. I'm willing to believe in an Ovechkin, Backstrom, Carlson, Alzner core with help from some more gritty players like Laich and Brouwer, Green and Semin not so much. Hope they continue to fill roster out more with forwards like Laich and defensemen like Carlson, next couple years will be important to modify the team composition without completely starting over.

Canucks looking to trade Ehrhoff's rights. We lose a puck moving defenseman who's great on the power play... and not much else. I'm pretty disappointed that we're going to lose him, but I can't say I'm not surprised. With 7 teams looking to hit the cap floor, probably going to see some team throw Ehrhoff some offer at 5.5-6 mil. I'm hoping it's not like when Jovo left and then our offense just disappeared the year after.

To replace Ehrhoff, we may have to use Ballard. He wasn't great last season, but the fact that we had 4 puck moving defenseman and AV wanted the last two to be gritty defenseman, rendered him pretty useless and of course, he didn't get enough playing time. I'm hoping that more minutes and a summer of conditioning will help him get back on course. With the advent of Tanev as a solid defenseman, I'm hoping that it'll be enough to weather Ehrhoff's loss.
