The Everything NHL Thread

Malkin, Lundqvist and Stamkos the finalists for the Hart. Wtf is Stamkos doing there? I thought for sure Quick would nommed. Imo it should be Quick, Smith and Malkin with Quick winning it. I thought last years awards were bad especially when Luongo got nommed over Price for Vezina. No surprise all finalists are from the East.

Goalies shouldn't be allowed to win the Hart. It would be a complete joke if there were 2 goalies nominated.

I know some people think this way, why is why the Hart is a joke. They should just have an award for best foward, like the Vezina and Norris and get rid of MVP entirely.

It's about quantifying what is most valuable, to be honest. This debate exists in baseball too with Cy Young vs. MVP. But if a person can prove that a goalie is as valuable as a skater, then why not?

The problem is that great goalies are more important than forwards since they play twice as much generally. And since goalies have their own awards it's dumb to give them MVP.

this made me smile on puck daddy

DONT STOP BELIEVING ARIZONA

(wait does this mean an ESPN show was briefly covering hockey)

Predictions:

LA vs St Louis 6 games - L.A was unable to score more than two goals a game on Schneider at most, against a self-imploding Canucks defense. Think about how they'll fare against a trap team with a tandem of Halak and Elliott backstopping them.

Nashville vs Phoenix 5 games - As much as I would like Phoenix to win (and I still think they can upset), Nashville has that much more firepower, a better defense, and a goalie that doesn't leak shitty goals like Crawford. Getting away with crappy goals won't save the Coyotes.

New Jersey vs Philadelphia 6 games - Series will be closer than most people will expect, with Bryzgalov giving up easy goals. However, Brodeur isn't what he used to be, and Philadelphia overwhelms New Jersey to take the series. Good chance for an upset though in my opinion, depending on how New Jersey's offense operates.

New York - Washington 7 games - Even with a shaky series against the Senators, I still fully believe New York has what it takes to go all the way to the finals. Washington, in my opinion, rode a hot goalie, and eeked out that one extra game against the Bruins (even though I still predicted Washington in 7 if Holtby was hot). Look for Lundqvist to render Ovie even more useless and for Richards and Gaborik to step up. Holtby eventually falters, ending this youngster's huge run.

Then judge value relative to the league average player at that position, and see how much value they added relative to the norm?

Because it's fun to watch jrrrrrrr defend racism and all other sorts of douchebaggery, I'd like to see what he spins this into:

Where did I "defend racism"?

And I don't care about that video since nothing happened. His feelings will be fine. He was wearing a Habs jersey in Boston, he's either tough enough to deal with it or too stupid to care.

I love how, despite living in LA, the Kings aren't even showing on FS West or any local channels...just women's softball and Chivas USA soccer. sadface

EDIT: I'm so fucking proud of this team.

here were my predictions from another forum, no write ups though:

preds in 7
kings in 6

philly in 6
caps in 7

Preds in 7 looking less and less likely by the second but who knows. Caps is kind of a long shot too but I'm more confident about the Kings and Flyers

So about that better defense... God Nashville looked sexy on paper.

5-3 is a very nice win, I'll take it. Hopefully finish off Nashville over there so they have a chance to recup for a bit, though odds are it'll likely come back to a game 5 here.

And I really fucking hate NBCSF or whatever the fucking channel is, way the hell out there on DirecTV, takes forever to find...whose bright idea in the NHL was to sign with a lame channel and then not even show away games?

uh that's cause all games are on the nbc family here on out..

this confused the hell out of me when i tried to watch the flyers-devils game today, it took me like 15 minutes to figure out it was on regular nbc

also, so happy for phoenix

Off-topic question: Since the NHLPA blocked the realignment plan, what the hell is happening now? Is the NHL going to try negotiating with them to withdraw their rejection, or are the original divisions set in stone next season?

Let's go Caps. Looking good out there. (except Green of course)

EDIT: Jesus fuck, refs. It's 2-1 because of the black and whites. Should be 2-0 or 3-0 because Gaborik should have been called for boarding. And please tell me how Green got sent for tripping when his stick never touched Kreider?

IIRC we're stuck with the same divisions next year. I believe when it was announced the the NHLPA blocked it Bettman or someone said that even if the NHLPA did eventually let it go through at that point it would be too late to implement the realignment for next year?

EDIT: Yeah, same divisions next year. Poor Winnipeg.

So obviously I haven't paid too much attention to the other teams besides my own, but what makes Nashville such a favorite to everyone originally?
