The Official "Complain about being beat by Seattle Defense" Thread

Contrary to all the bitching about shitty luck in this thread, my two Smogon teams are fantastically lucky. 5-1 and in 1st place in SmogonBomb (League C?); 5-1 and in 2nd place in Angelbunni (Auction league)

The auction league is particularly hilarious because I'm running Shonn Greene and Steven Jackson as my starting RB, which DeAngelo Williams and the mighty LaRod Stephens-Howling waiting in the wings. (Sorry WB :P)

^ i hear you on lucky 5-1 starts, yo.

i would like some advice though, in one league i have the option of picking up either alex green or felix jones on waivers.

i am 2-4. jones has a fantastic matchup with the panthers, green has a shitty matchup with the rams.

do i go for the better one week play or with the guy that should be carrying the load all year? i was the guy that had benson too...

In the auction league, we are #11 and #12 (me) in points against, #6 and #3 in points for, and a combined 11-1. The only loss was me beating you. We have been pretty hilariously lucky in that league!

League C is pretty odd, as everyone from the #2 scoring team to the #11 scoring team are within about 50 points scored. You're the only one clearly above that line, and autodraft dubby is the only one clearly below it.

Last week in my money league I scored 61 points and won. Against the other 10 teams that week, I would have gone 0-10. My opponent had Matt Ryan (11 points), Turner (3 points), Crabtree (2 points), Hartline (0 points, 0 targets), and Austin (3 points) plus the Cowboys' D (1 point). At least I had somewhat of an excuse, with Brees/Sproles on bye and my #1 backup RB Donald Brown out with injury. Next week, though, I have Charles/Roddy/Bowe all on bye, and I'm playing the only other 5-1 team in the league. I'm kind of screwed unless luck prevails again!

This league has a tiny bench, so there's lots of players available and I need both a RB and WR/TE for next week, possibly 2 WR/TEs. Sitting at 12th on the waiver wire though. I'm desperately hoping no one picks up Felix Jones (dropping Tate for him) and/or Demarius Moore (dropping my backup QB Smith for him) so I can have a serviceable lineup next week. After that I'm looking at a bunch of hit or miss guys, but I'm thinking Brandon Gibson and Heath Miller are next up to cover at WR/TE.

Just want to share some stats from my ridiculous entirely autodrafted League B team:

Baltimore Bullets would be 47-7 if they played every team every week, through 6 weeks.

Baltimore Bullets remains in first place and has led the league every week this season.

Post-Draft Projection for the Baltimore Bullets: 13-1

The team:

QB: Matt Ryan
WR: A.J. Green
WR: Percy Harvin
WR: Victor Cruz
RB: Doug Martin
RB: Pierre Thomas / DeAngelo Williams / Alex Green / Joique Bell / other shitty RBs
Flex: Calvin Johnson
TE: Tony Gonzalez
K: David Akers
DEF: Chicago

Bench: Michael Crabtree, James Jones, Fred Davis, Matt Schaub

All the major websites are saying pick up Jones for this week's game as he has a potential huge matchup vs carolina. I would do the same as them. Who are your other RBs?

I'm kind of amazed how he managed to get Megatron, AJ Green, Victor Cruz and Percy Harvin, unless his pick order was absolutely perfect. Megatron is a first round pick, and all three of the other guys are second rounders, third at worst. The fact that at least one of them had to have fallen to the 4th round is very lucky on his part, or just bad drafting by everyone else in the league. Outside of that the rest of the team is understandable considering what everyone thought of those guys before the season began, and you got some great bargains in Ryan, Gonzalez, Akers and Bears D. Well done, autodraft!

Isn't league B only 8 or 10 people?

Getting Harvin that late isn't that big of a stretch to be honest. He was one of those guys being drafted way later than he should have been coming into the season. He was outstanding towards the end of last year and definitely a viable top 10 WR pick. I got him in the 5th round in my money league, which was pretty lucky considering his ADP was probably around the middle of the 4th round. AJ/Cruz were probably going late 2nd/early 3rd, and Martin was maybe a little later.

If you need a spot starter, pick up Jones ASAP. He's not fantastic, but he'll be better than anyone you can find on the waiver wires for this week. Expecting something like an 80 yard game with a 50/50 shot at a TD is probably fair, with it being doubtful that Carolina's defense will stand up to the Cowboys offense.

My Smogon team is done. Everything is looking bad, and the only reason I might get into the playoffs is if I manage to win another 4 games or so, since I started 4-2.

My main league team got screwed over by Jordy and me starting Schaub over Vick. The 5-0 start was nice, though.

Fantasy is funny, your better teams will end up doing worse and your mediocre teams will end up doing better. My team in League C is far superior to my team in another league, but I'm 2-4 in League C and 4-2 in the other. Hell, I'm 0-6 in a league where I have Drew Brees, Reggie Wayne, Brandon Marshall, Vincent Jackson, Andre Johnson, Jimmy Graham, Willis McGahee, Lawfirm, Ben Roethlisberger, Owen Daniels, Rashard Mendenhall, Jason Hanson, and Seahawks D. Just goes to show how much luck is involved, and that good starting and drafting decisions are only half the battle.

I love it though, I am so glad I got into FF. It has made me appreciate the game as a whole much more, as well as expanded my knowledge drastically. Now I enjoy watching EVERY game on Sunday, Monday and Thursday and not just my own team.

Who do you have on your team currently? Is this a bye week fill-in or something for the long-haul?
Went with Green. My other RBs are AP, Shady, and Pierre Thomas... I needed someone who can help out when AP goes on bye or if someone else gets injured. Jones is gonna be a 1-2 week pony i think.

Both taken fml

Basically consigned to lose this week. Starting Brees/Sproles/Harvin and a bunch of backups. Marty B is my 4th WR/TE, so I'm deciding with Brandon Gibson (vs GB they should be down and passing a lot, no?), Kendall Wright (surprisingly he's very highly targeted for a 3rd WR), or Heath Miller/Jermaine Gresham against the Bengals/Steelers. With Bennett's production I might end up dropping him for two of these guys, especially because his bye week is the same as Harvin's. Any thoughts?

If I'm lucky, Trent Richardson might be out this weekend and I can snag Hardesty before the guy starting Richardson does. I'll have to be careful, as I'd have to drop Ben Tate who is my only other RB this week in order to do so.

Do you guys have any suggestions for RBs to pick up on the waiver wire? My RB position is a mess (I'm in a 16-team league and Kevin Smith and Ced Benson were my RBs) and I've basically been filling the holes with ragtag guys like Andre Brown and Brandon Bolden. It's so hard to find backs who are productive this year... right now I'm looking to drop somebody for Hardesty, hoping like hell that Richardson doesn't play. Any other waiver wire tips would be appreciated.

alright, i was able to pick up everyone i tried for off waivers, which is shocking.

not great, but the last few weeks both my opponents and i have had pretty low scoring matches so who knows.

also my kicker is the highest projection on my team.

nice.

16 team league and you're looking for waiver wire RBs? You're kind of fucked.

Pick up Daryl Richardson if he's available, he'd be your best bet in a situation like this. Odds are he's not, though.

Drop Smith for Joique Bell. He's going to be the #2 RB in Detroit for a while.

You could try picking up Kendall Hunter, Gore's backup, and hope Gore gets hurt. Otherwise he'll still get you a couple points a week, probably better than Bolden or Brown.

Dexter McCluster is listed as RB/WR and can be used in either position. If he's available, grab him now. He's getting plays specifically designed for him, not unlike Sproles is in New Orleans.

Chris Ogbonnaya is the Browns' 3rd down back. He's worth a look if you're super desperate and the league is ppr.

No matter who you choose, you're probably fucked unless you can get Hardesty and Richardson doesn't play. Any of these guys has the potential to put up 7-8 points, but is just as likely to give you 0.

Deschain, I was last last year in smogon league A so I probably shouldn't talk...but lol man, how did you manage to draft such a terrible team. I would think you'd be able to draft a better 10 team league roster in a 16 team league draft lol...

I think the normal is that once you make a move, you go back to last no matter what your order is. If 8 people made a waiver move last week, the 4 people who didn't are ordered 1-4 this week, while the 8 who did are ordered 5-12 based on when they picked someone up.

It's often done by points scored or record, too. I think that's how it's done week to week, so the top team of the 8 teams that made moves would be ranked 12th, the next placed team ranked 11th, etc. If it's not that, it's based on just the timing of the moves; if every single team makes a single move every week, the order would never change.

Some leagues reset it every week. Your waiver order in these leagues only matters on wednesday, when moves are made, and otherwise being 1st on the waiver is worthless. These are probably done on scoring too, so the lowest scoring team will always have #1 on waivers, the next lowest #2, etc.

lots of byes. don't know why everyone always assumes this is my first string set up, it's obviously patched together. Julio Jones, Eric Decker and Dwayne Bowe are all off this week. i am admittedly thin as hell at RB, but there's only a few solid choices anyway. if you don't get one of them, you're just rolling the dice.

and it's a 14 team league so it is pretty thin regardless.

His first pick was probably Matthew Stafford, so he was already on a collision course for failure :P

I'm not bashing him, because I picked Matt Stafford with my first pick in one of my leagues too haha. And, predictably, my team in that league is a train wreck.

Stafford unfortunately is not only a boom-or-bust QB, but he also has an injury history that could bite him at any moment. The only QBs I'd ever draft in Round 1 would be Rodgers or Brees, with the other elite QBs like Brady and the Mannings in Round 2 or later. Stafford I could see as a good Round 2 pick, but never a first pick.

Also is it just me, or has this season been really bad for RBs? I feel like most teams have strong WR depth but are thin at RB, with usually only 1 good starter and a mediocre RB2.

Well of the Top 30-ish or so, so many have missed some time due to injury: Both Buffalo RBs, Forte, Benson, Bradshaw, Murray. A lot of them are two-week all-stars like Jackie Battle and Andre Brown. Plenty of underachievers, from MJD to Chris Johnson to SJax. Kevin Smith stopped existing after being awesome the first two weeks, Shonne Greene did nothing between Week 1 and last week.

Pretty much you're lucky this year if you have an RB2 that's producing more than 5-7 points a week, let alone have any backups worth a damn to occupy injuries/byes. It's hard.

lol so glad I picked up Alfred Morris after Week 1. He hasn't gotten injured yet and is the ONLY consistent Waiver Wire RB this year. Let's hope it stays that way.
