Picking five is really quite difficult as the world of music is vast as it is and ever-expanding. If I really had to pick five though...
1.
Cake -- far and away the best concert I've ever been to. Great music, catchy lyrics, just an awesome awesome band.
2.
Modest Mouse -- more hit-and-miss than the others, but they hit much more often than not. Another great concert band as their selection is so massive, plus they don't usually play their hits so one truly never knows what to expect.
3.
The Decemberists -- great story-telling band, they're of a rare breed that their albums are meant to be listened to from start to finish, but their songs are still good enough to stand on their own.
4.
Sufjan Stevens -- dunno if that counts since he's really an artist but he is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. He plays all of his own instruments (and there are a lot of them) and he can write songs without breaking a sweat. I really hope he continues with his 50 States project so that I can never stop listening to him.
5.
The Hold Steady -- their music is so full of soul and passion it's hard not to like them. The music is catchy and the songs are easy to sing along with.
Apologies to:
The National, Iron & Wine, Band of Horses, M. Ward (again, don't know if he really counts),
The Flaming Lips, The Shins, Spoon, and
TV on the Radio
1. Catch 22
2. Suburban legends
3. Streetlight Manifesto
4. Flogging Molly
5. The Offspring
Haha I used to be into ska as well, but to me the genre just got stale. Suburban Legends it seemed just recycled old songs, though they were catchy as hell. Streetlight's newest also kept me entertained.
