Toxic, Tricks, and Traps- A Suspect Warstory

Hello, everyone! I took a huuuuge hiatus from pokemon for a while, and over the last couple of months I've been slowly working my way back into the scene. Not on the boards, of course, but I've been goofing off on the ladder. =P

Now anyways, I'm sure everyone has heard the commotion of Latias leaving OU and Salamence being a suspect: I honestly don't really care where everything is placed, to be honest. I just want to have fun. And honestly, the Latias metagame had become stale and boring. Don't turn this thread into a debate topic, haters: I'll simply ignore you. xD

With the ladder going up today I thought I would go ahead and try it out. I knew that Infernape would be a top-notch player with Latias gone, and I knew that everyone else knew it. And without even Mence to try and stop him, it was easy enough to run an all-physical set with CC, Overheat, ThunderPunch and Mach Punch(for Lucario/ Tyranitar, mostly). Otherwise, I just picked a couple of things I thought would work and threw them together into what I thought would be a pretty good and fun team.

So this warstory that you are about to read is only the third match I've had with this team: and it was 10x more exciting than any match I've had for a while. If that says anything about this metagame, then *insert McDonald's jingle here* I'm lovin' it!

First match was pretty even until I had a stall war against a Cresselia, Milotic, and Jirachi with my Forretress and Gyarados left(Infernape was around, but I never brought him in on account of being 100% walled by Cresselia). Milotic was just regular poisoned, Cresselia had Moonlight/Psychic/Reflect/Toxic, and Jirachi was odd Iron Head/ Fire Punch/ Wish/ Protect. With max spikes out(but no SR), I was able to wear down on Jirachi enough to beat it thanks to Roar on Gyarados. Eventually by the same effect Milotic fell too, with Recover being stalled out of PP. Against Cresselia I eventually had to force Psychic till that ran out, bringing in forrey only when the sp. defense drop occurred. Just when my forrey hit ~20% did my opponent run out of PP, and he/ she forfeited the match at that point. I would have warstory'd it, had it been not so terribly long. So onto the next match.

Second match was against an offensive team, which had a lot of Trick users. Eventually I gave Jirachi's Toxic Orb to a shaymin and CMed a couple of times, using the LO as extra power to run through(I think) a Zapdos and the sp. defense to go through Starmie. Also very close, but the score was considerably more one-sided that made me not want to use it(5-0).

And finally came this:

Rules: Ladder Match, Sleep Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Evasion Clause, Species Clause, Strict Damage Clause
bad ass sent out Forretress.
ss118 sent out Azelf.
Bluewind has entered the room.
I was curious as to why spectators were showing up in all my battles(I had ~5 in my Gyarados stallfest), when I realized that my opponent was the infamous Bad Ass! I was pretty sure I'd seen his name around the forums, so I prayed that this battle would be as good as the previous two.
At this point I'm really happy I'm running a +Sp. Attack nature: if it's Occa I'll be stripping a lot more, and if he switches I'll be stripping at least a little more. I really like Azelf leads because people tend to over-predict around them, just assuming about what they do.

bad ass switched in Jirachi.
Azelf used Fire Blast.
It's super effective!
Jirachi lost 88% of its health.
Azelf: 100% with Sash
Jirachi: 12%
And there we have it, folks: an over-prediction in one of my warstories that wasn't from me! ^^"
Now I figure he'll either Iron Head or U-Turn, neither of which my Azelf would like. Iron Head seems more likely, since allowing me to get up residual damage would be really costly to this Jirachi at this point. Forretress is the best switch-in, in any case.

matty has entered the room.
ss118 switched in Forretress.
Jirachi used Iron Head.
It's not very effective...
A critical hit!
Forretress lost 23% of its health.
Forretress's leftovers restored its health a little!
Forretress restored 6% of its health.
Forretress: 83%
Jirachi: 12%
Crap, now he can flinch straight through me! Oh wait, no you can't Jirachi, so go back to your pokeball and wait for Tyranitar or something before showing your pecker round these here parts.
Since I see no Leftovers, I can assume this is Scarf..... or is it Expert Belt? I've been messed with by that thing too many times: I decide to go back to Azelf. This way I'm not revealing new team members, and I can try and get SR back up. If it is scarfed, it will switch: if it is Expert Belt, Azelf can probably scare him out on a bluff since no one other than me would run a neutral speed nature on it.

bad ass switched in Forretress.
ss118 switched in Azelf.
He could also go back to Forrey and take everything back a step. I don't see a problem with Fire Blasting: I only force open his team even more, figuring out Fire resists that will probably get in Infernape's way later on.

ss118: back to square one eh?
ss118: xD
bad ass switched in Vaporeon.
Azelf used Fire Blast.
It's not very effective...
Vaporeon lost 18% of its health.
Vaporeon's leftovers restored its health a little!
Vaporeon restored 6% of its health.
Azelf: 100% with Sash
Vaporeon: 88%
...and here's one of the best Infernape counters ever to try and ruin everything. Thankfully, CC is a 2HKO with SR behind it, so if I can force Vaporeon to come into Infernape I can take it on still. Forretress will ensure that Vaporeon stays at critical health with Rapid Spin, so that is a problem. I'll need to get SR up and bring Infernape in on Forretress, then CC at it while Vaporeon comes in to take a Fire Blast or something. And unless he has an Infernape counter otherwise, I should be good. Azelf will do a good job at keeping Forretress away while getting SR up, so then my only problem at this point is predicting when Forretress will come in otherwise to try and remove it.
So that's my general gameplan. tl;dr - Get SR up, get Infernape in on Forrey, 2HKO Vaporeon. For now I'll try the power of max Sp. Attack Psychic against Vaporeon to see how it takes it.

Azelf used Psychic.
Vaporeon lost 36% of its health.
Vaporeon used Surf.
Azelf lost 65% of its health.
Vaporeon's leftovers restored its health a little!
Vaporeon restored 6% of its health.
Azelf: 35%
Vaporeon: 58%
Well that didn't take off nearly as much as I would of liked! Thank you Azelf for everything but I need to get SR up more than I need to do anything else at this point: thanks for forcing my opponent to show 3 team members...

bad ass switched in Rotom-h.
Azelf used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around the foe's team!
...or four team members. Now with SR up, I guess I'll leave in Azelf to scout the set and see if I can get any more damage off with Psychic.

Rotom-h used Thunderbolt.
Azelf lost 35% of its health.
ss118's Azelf fainted.
And down goes the first member of the match. He opened my opponent's team to reveal a total of four members, keeping SR off my side of the field, stripping one member of the opponent's team to an almost useless state, and finally got SR up while luring out a second scarfer. You did very well, Azelf, now sleep peacefully.
Stuck in Scarfed Thunderbolt: I could bring out my Forrey to try and lure my opponent's, but that would lead to a stalemate so I can't assume Bad Ass will do that. Gyarados is out, and I want to keep Jirachi and Infernape at good health for late-game. Jolteon is my best option, I guess.

ss118 switched in Jolteon.
Now my opponent WILL switch: nothing I've seen on his team so far can take a Jolteon, so I assume his counter for it will be showing up now. Fake Tears takes advantage of whatever he will bring in, since not many people ever expect it.

bad ass switched in Blissey.

Jolteon: 100%
Blissey: 94% -2 Sp. Defense
This could work: but I would really not liked to be Toxic'd. I'll go to Jirachi so that if it Toxics, it won't affect me: if it has Thunder Wave, it will likely not use it so I won't have to worry about my Jirachi coming into Paralysis. Wow, that works out really well: I wish I could say that I planned it. T-T

bad ass switched in Rotom-h.
Pointed stones dug into Rotom-h.
Rotom-h lost 12% of its health.
ss118 switched in Jirachi.
Jirachi: 100%
Rotom-h: 88%
Well this was an interesting turn of events. I know I can take an Overheat so I'll just stay in and Psychic. I doubt I'll see Forretress come in without knowing my moveset, and I doubt he'll Trick, since I could be scarfed. I just need to be ready to move out so Forretress doesn't come in once he sees Psychic.

Rotom-h used Trick.
Rotom-h obtained Toxic Orb!
Jirachi obtained Choice Scarf!
Jirachi used Psychic.
Rotom-h lost 40% of its health.
Rotom-h was badly poisoned!
Jirachi: 100% stuck in Psychic
Rotom: 48% Toxic'd
...hahahahahahahaha!
That works perfectly! Now that I'm locked into Psychic he'll likely bring in Forretress or Blissey.... but the problem stands that Vaporeon could be coming in as well. If it took Azelf's MUCH more powerful Psychic like it did, it could come in and get a Wish off easily on this one. Forget the plan, I'd rather keep Vaporeon at low Health than even giving it a chance to get itself back to full HP. Jolteon doesn't fare too badly against Blissey or Forretress either, so let's go Jolteon!

And now I wish I went to Infernape. Oh well, better to have chance later on than to never have a chance at all. I figure he may switch out to conserve HP, so I'll just Thunderbolt instead of going with Fake Tears: I'll probably 3HKO just attacking, and if I fake Tears I turn it to a 2HKO, but I use a turn beforehand. So either way takes three turns: my way has more moments for random paralysis or a critical hit.

Now THIS is what I was afraid of. I've lost my stones forever, but without Salamence around I think nothing becomes terrible to manage. Even then it wouldn't be that bad, but again, I digress. Thunderbolt again to try and kill off Forrey, but he'll likely go to Blissey. If Blissey could do something to me it probably would have tried too earlier, so I see no threat.

OK with T-spikes and SR up I may be in a small bind: I'll just wear down Blissey a little though. Nothing on his team can come into me and Blissey loses, so if this is the case I can infinitely wear down until he loses: knowing Bad Ass, he has something else.

And here it is: if this is an offensive one nothing can come in. In fact, looking at my team, I realize that Zapdos tears a HOLE into me. Well it can't OHKO me and I have a Wish: maybe it will Heat Wave with LO and I can 2HKO it?

He'll likely go to Blissey: but I have a small plan at this point. If I keep up with the "obvious" moves for the moment, later on he'll continuously expect them, allowing me to potentially set up and go. Psychological warfare is something you usually don't expect this early, but I know that random playstyle changes are the best way to turn around games and surprise opponents. Well, here goes nothing.

Now's a good time to get Forrey in. I need T-spikes to be able to beat Blissey with either Jolteon or Jirachi, plus I can force some toxic damage on Rotom if it tries to come in. If I get super-lucky he'll bring in Forretress so I can spin. =)

Now is make it or break it: Jirachi has been standing uselessly to the side, and he's itching to make a re-appearance. Confused? Allow me to elaborate: from what he's seen of my team, I'm running an Sp. Attacking crew with members designed to help me break down Blissey. Explosion Azelf, Fake Tears Jolteon, Toxic Orb Trick Jirachi, and even Toxic Spikes Forretress: they all help to wear down on this one pokemon and attempt to overwhelm stall. With that in mind he knows I want Blissey out: I'm confident that he'll bring in Blissey again to try and take advantage of some Sp. Attacker or Zapdos to take advantage of my inability to handle it well. Either way his team gets crippled one precious member.

Infernape can't kill it, and without Jolteon I have nothing to threaten it enough. Forretress is coming in: get Spikes up to put Vaporeon into 2HKO range for Infernape. If he wishes he'll likely go to Forretress to spin and because he's at ~20% health or something: bring in Infernape and go with my original plan of luring out Vaporeon and killing it, allowing me to go for the win.

Infernape: 100% and burning with passion.
Forretress: Shitting his figurative pants.
I knew I could count on you, Infernape!
Now go, Close Combat!

wooh! glad your back, and you ruined one of the worst warstory droughts in history lol. Awesome, suspect no less!

Why is it not concluded? I am so sad...

I'm telling you, next part will be posted by Bad Ass. He predicted infernape would stay in and earthquaked.

I demand that this tease of a warstory concludes!

This is great stuff by the way. Some good thought processes going on. I especially liked the working around of defensive Zapdos with Jolteon.

Excellent warstory, though the unfinished ending annoys me :P

It didn't bore me and stayed exciting and left me wondering what would happen next. Great job :D

It's not a good idea to post an unfinished warstory, imo. I enjoyed what you've written so far but you really should have finished it before posting.

relax guys, The battle is still being concluded, the rest of the battle has taken over 2 hours, its just turned into a stall war....

lol

Have a Nice Day!

Jesus Christ a cliffhanger :/ it's a pretty interesting read so far though. Definitely shaping up to be a great warstory.

I've refreshed the page about 9 times hoping it gets updated with the rest :( ... good Warstory writing and something about it is just refreshing to see.

This is a good sign. The fact that people want you to finish it so badly only tells you that they absolutely love it, as did I. Now, could you please finish that warstory? T_T

Oh my...

Excellent warstory with great comments (Telling us your though process was great)
and good predictions.

Damn I want to see the end othis Warstory!!!

i found the cliffhanger entertaining my biggest worry about it is that now that the idea has been introduced every warstory will have one as well

Okay so yeah I thought the cliffhanger was a pretty cool idea at first, something new for a change, but now it's like 6 hours later and I don't even remember what's happened and all the intensity is just gone....

So sorry but yeah I don't think the cliffhanger was the best idea..I dunno it just feels a bit ruined now, it's not like I'm going to go back and reread the whole thing and even if I did it still just wouldn't be the same :/

Part Two!

meh fair enough. Honestly I was waiting to see how long it would take for this to have two pages of people bitching about it lol xD

bad ass switched in Vaporeon.
Vaporeon was hurt by Spikes!
Vaporeon lost 12% of its health.
Infernape used Close Combat.
Vaporeon lost 54% of its health.
Infernape's defence was lowered.
Infernape's special defence was lowered.
Infernape lost 10% of its health.
Vaporeon's leftovers restored its health a little!
Vaporeon restored 6% of its health.
If you've read the warstory thus far, you'd know that this situation is EXACTLY what I was going for pretty much the entire match. However, what I read was:

bad ass switched in Vaporeon.
Infernape used Close Combat.
It doesn't affect Vaporeon...
Confused: I was too. And then I read further...

Rotom-h is hurt by poison!
Rotom-h lost 6% of its health.
Rotom-h's leftovers restored its health a little!
Rotom-h restored 6% of its health.
A genius sacrifice on his part! Rotom was essentially useless trying to wall anything on my team, as even Forretress could beat him. It also allows Vaporeon to get in for free, which I don't really like....

Infernape used Overheat.
Rotom-h lost 35% of its health.
bad ass's Rotom-h fainted.
Infernape's special attack was harshly lowered.
Infernape lost 10% of its health.
OK I think now is a good time to recap on the match: especially if most of you don't remember. I've lost my lead Azelf, to be expected of it always, and my Jolteon. My opponent, on the other hand, has just lost his first pokemon of the match. At this point we know each other's teams and how they work(he doesn't know my Gyarados). He has a pretty full-HP Forretress, SubRoost Zapdos, Blissey, an almost-dead Jirachi that will die if it comes into Spikes now, and the fucking Vaporeon. Which will now come in.

bad ass switched in Vaporeon.
Vaporeon was hurt by Spikes!
Vaporeon lost 12% of its health.
I, on the other hand, have my revealed Gyarados with a Scarf, my 90% Infernape, my Forretress, and my Jirachi holding it's Toxic Orb. Bringing in Forretress at this point is suicide: he'll just bring in his and I don't think trying to CC at it will work anymore. Infernape gets stalled by Wish+Protect on Vaporeon, or it just dies to a Surf. Gyarados' only attack is Waterfall, and phazing won't do much. My best hopes is to take the time he'll use to Wish/ Surf and get Jirachi going.

ss118 switched in Jirachi.
Vaporeon used Wish.
Vaporeon made a wish!
Vaporeon's leftovers restored its health a little!
Vaporeon restored 6% of its health.
He knows I'm running Psychic and Trick: if I get lucky he may not expect Calm Mind and be able to get one off.

Vaporeon used Protect.
Vaporeon protected itself!
Jirachi used Calm Mind.
Jirachi's special attack was raised.
Jirachi's special defence was raised.
The wish came true!
Vaporeon restored 35% of its health.
Good! Now I have to tread carefully: with a potentially exploding Forretress, Blissey, and Zapdos around, it won't be THAT easy to get get around it all. Just work patiently: keeping Vaporeon in too long will just allow me to get this off more easily, so likely he'll go to Blissey and try to Seismic Toss me or Thunder Wave me(if he has it). Either way, I want to Thunderbolt because Vaporeon being dead means I win: I don't want a random critical hit to lose me. It's happened too many times as-is.

bad ass switched in Blissey.

Blissey lost 12% of its health.
Jirachi used Thunderbolt.
Blissey lost 14% of its health.
Blissey's leftovers restored its health a little!

Well she's in: now I'm sure he doesn't want my Toxic Orb on her, so he'll likely switch to try and throw me off. I'll Calm Mind again.

?
This is an especially strange time to bring in Jirachi. Not sure if he'd trying to get in Forretress/ Zapdos in for free or not, but all I know is that he just gave me a free Calm Mind and now nothing but Blissey can handle me.

bad ass switched in Blissey.
Blissey was hurt by Spikes!
Blissey lost 12% of its health.
I want to Psychic because I want to hit any of his other pokemon in case they come in trying to take my Toxic Orb.

Blissey used Seismic Toss.
Jirachi lost 28% of its health.
Blissey's leftovers restored its health a little!
Blissey restored 6% of its health.
At this point I don't think it matters: getting Leftovers is more important than anything else, and if I take it from anyone else I can get enough Calm Minds to wear down on Blissey. I figure he'll stay in, anyway though, because the threat of Psychic tearing key members of his team is too much.

Jirachi used Trick.
Jirachi obtained Leftovers!
Blissey obtained Toxic Orb!
Blissey used Softboiled.
Blissey restored 50% of its health.
Jirachi's leftovers restored its health a little!
Jirachi restored 6% of its health.
Blissey was badly poisoned!
w00t! Party!
Now to CM again: after this one I can Psychic twice to get the kill, Zadpos can't do shit since I'll have ~35% or something, Vaporeon dies, and lol @ Forretress.

Well, I'm sorry Infernape, I didn't get to use you as I was hoping I could: but for now just chill and take a ride in the back.

bad ass switched in Zapdos.
Zapdos is exerting its pressure!
Likely not invested in Sp. Attack, so I don't have to worry about being KOed here by a normal Thunderbolt: what I worry about more is Paralysis. Even then with 3 CMs I should be able to take two and get this thing off. And I should OHKO with Max Sp. Attack.

Jirachi used Psychic.

See what happens when a big stall-ish war happens and someone breaks it: people lose members left and right! Well I guess from the 4-6 deficit I pretty much began with I'm doing OK. But now Vaporeon comes in and will just Surf me away.

bad ass switched in Vaporeon.
Vaporeon was hurt by Spikes!
Vaporeon lost 12% of its health.
My plan: get in Forretress. It may be useless otherwise but I need a layer of Toxic Spikes up. And only one: I need the extra 6.25% on the first turn, since nothing but Infernape can dent it.

That's done: now to see the final move on Vaporeon by using Gyarados as bait. I also need to Roar her out to get her poison'd.

He thinks Zapdos can take Infernape afterwards? I don't know, but he has another thing coming. The problem is he will def HP Electric this turn, meaning I'll lose Gyarados and then ape comes in to lose: I know this is unusual, but Infernape I need you to wear down Vaporeon!

Or he does that: still, I may come out on top: I've stalled Vaporeon to kill percentages, so now I just CC it and then Overheat Zapdos: problem there being Zapdos is pretty damn bulky and I don't know if it would take out a ~60% one. We'll see I guess.
