Metagame Typemons

Dunfan

formerly Dunsparce Fanboy
Priority - Yes, First Impression most likely nets a quick KO on Mega Sceptile, as does Ice Shard (you don't even have to use Ice as your type, just use Weavile or Mamoswine or something). But what if the opponent (or you for that matter) has Tapu Lele?
Lightning Rod, Motor Drive, Volt Absorb - Marowak-Alola and Thundy-T are both viable counters, but Rock Head is generally better on Marowak for most other purposes. Thundy-T seems like the prime Mega Sceptile counter in this meta.
Magic Bounce - Diancite isn't released (and Mega Diancie dies to Leaf Storm anyway), Espeon isn't viable, Mega Sableye can't kill it, and Absol needs to rely on the famously unreliable Play Rough.
Unaware - Sure, but it's so common that most teams will probably have a Clefable counter. And no one uses Swoobat. Quagsire is out of the question.
Mold Breaker - You made your points already; Haxorus and Kyu-B die to Dragon Pulse or whatever (not Draco, Sceptile doesn't get it), Mega Gyarados dies to Leaf Storm, and Excadrill can't switch in safely.
Contrary - Ok, but what if there are no webs? Then what?
Setup - Good luck not getting killed by the Sceptile while trying to set up.
Faster things immune to webs - These exist but are weak to Stealth Rock, which teams with Sticky Web will probably use specifically because of this. Other than that, they're fine.
PP stall - This takes too long. They'll find a way to kill you first.
Moongeist Beam and Sunsteel Strike - Yes, they ignore the Ability, but they're still Electric-type and therefore doubly resisted by Mega Sceptile.
Thanks for having pointed out to me that it doesn't learn Draco Meteor, i replaced it with Dragon Pulse...

Now i have to answer this.

Priority - Yes, First Impression most likely nets a quick KO on Mega Sceptile, as does Ice Shard (you don't even have to use Ice as your type, just use Weavile or Mamoswine or something). But what if the opponent (or you for that matter) has Tapu Lele?
If the Lele doesn't use a Terrain Extender set, the Psychic Terrain only lasts 5 turns. The opponent will have to switch or have his Tapu Lele KOed, so only 4 turns really matter. As long as you don't target Sceptile with moves, Sceptile can't boost itself, and so it's possible to stall out the terrain.
Anyway Tapus are really good in this meta, so having your own Tapu to cancel the Psychic Terrain helps.
Now, i wonder :
Why would you use Tapu Lele in an Electric team ? With a Terrain Extender and Volt Switch ? It doesn't gain coverage since it already learns Thunderbolt (and Thunder).

Contrary - Ok, but what if there are no webs? Then what?
Then any Choice Scarf user with at least 286 speed (252+ with a base 81 speed, 200 with a base 100 speed) can outspeed it.
Setup is also possible, as Electrify won't prevent you to setup anyway.

Setup - Good luck not getting killed by the Sceptile while trying to set up.
252 SpA Sceptile-Mega Dragon Pulse vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mew: 151-178 (44.2 - 52.1%) -- 16% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Sceptile-Mega Leaf Storm vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mew: 229-271 (67.1 - 79.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

As long as the Sceptile hasn't absorbed a move with Lightning Rod yet, it's not much of a problem.

Moongeist Beam and Sunsteel Strike - Yes, they ignore the Ability, but they're still Electric-type and therefore doubly resisted by Mega Sceptile.
The fact that these moves only have 8 PP is also a problem.
Fortunately, on the right mon they can easily deal with Sceptile, and with the help of something : setup.

+6 8 Atk Doublade Sunsteel Strike (Electric) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Sceptile-Mega: 99-117 (35.1 - 41.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+6 8 Atk Doublade Sunsteel Strike (Steel) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Sceptile-Mega: 595-702 (210.9 - 248.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
( 252 SpA Sceptile-Mega Dragon Pulse vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Doublade: 54-65 (16.8 - 20.2%) -- possible 5HKO )

I'm not saying that giving Sunsteel Strike to a Doublade is a good idea, but it's definitely something against Sceptile-Mega.

Well i really like this metagame, sounds like a really interesting idea. Is this playable anywhere yet?

why isnt thousand arrows banned?? In other, other metagames like sketchmons or stabmons its banned. Its the most spammable move ever and its dumb af.
Excadrill is unwallable and can get over its counters like skarm and zapdos easily just using thousand memes

Metal burst should also be considered for a ban as chansey can utilize it to literally ohko every special (and most physical) mon in the tier.

Dugtrio should go too, sleep trapping is uncompetitive no matter what tier it is

Well other than that i really like this metagame, i thought of some interesting sets. Buckle up because this is gonna be a long post
Fires uses are literally endless, its easily gonna be one of the top types used

Serperior @ Leftovers
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Overheat/V-Create
- Substitute
- Leech Seed/Hidden Power [Ice]

Obvious contrary meme is obvious

Charizard-Mega-X @ Charizardite X
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fire Lash
- Earthquake
- Roost
- Dragon Dance

Fire lash is cool, allows u to beat walls with constant defense drops

Ban me @ Choice Scarf/Twisted Spoon
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Blue Flare
- Psychic
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast

Pretty obvious, all the tapus gets huge buff from this (bar fini)

Celesteela @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Serious Nature
- Heat Crash
- Heavy Slam
- Leech Seed
- Protect

Heat crash is perfect for celesteela, its basically a 150 bp no drawback fire move

Other than the obvious stuff such as lando and celesteela getting recovery and spikes, there is also

Whimsicott @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Spikes
- Shore Up
- Encore/Taunt
- Moonblast

Whimsicott benefits from this as it can now have a reliable recovery in shore up (it doesnt even get synthesis), and can set up spikes. Basically an alternative to klefki

Doublade @ Eviolite
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Spikes
- Shore up
- Shadow Sneak/Thousand Waves/Precipice Blades
- Gyro Ball

Alternatively, you can use doublade and finally have recovery in shore up, it also gets no guard precipice blade which is neat for offensive sets.

Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tail Glow

EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Fell Stinger
- Bullet Punch
- Swords Dance
- Roost

Its still garbage but worth mentioning

Scolipede @ Focus Sash
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Sticky Web
- Spikes/Toxic Spikes
- Megahorn
- Protect

Yea id expect this to be on alot of hyper offensive teams. One of the best suicide lead there is

And theres also defensive uses for it.
Yea too much to go over, but basically every defensive poke would love to abuse defend order/heal order, a few mons like tangrowth also appreciate u-turn making them better pivots than they already are

Kartana @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Sunsteel Strike
- Sacred Sword
- Swords Dance

Another metagame where kartana gets sunsteel strike, nice

Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Anchor Shot
- Metal Burst
- Soft-Boiled
- Toxic/Stealth Rock

This set is broken, and not only chansey can use it so many defensive pokes can trap u in and f#$k you over, please ban trapping moves + metal burst

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Gear Grind
- Bug Bite
- Knock Off/Superpower/Bullet Punch
- Swords Dance

Technician gear grind hits really really hard, other than that its standard scizor

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Doom Desire
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Toxic

Oh hey its Heatran, except its more even more annoying

Cloyster @ Focus Sash
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shell Smash
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Power Trip

Power trip shell smash woo (bh anyone?)

Beedrill-Mega @ Beedrillite
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash
- U-turn
- Poison Jab
- Drill Run

No longer walled by lando finally

Tapu Koko @ Magnet
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Bolt Strike
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Hidden Power [Ice]

This is actually busted

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 240 Def / 20 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Parabolic Charge
- Heat Wave
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Roost

Standard Zapdos, except its more annoying

Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Powder
- Heal Order
- Gyro Ball
- Spikes

Noooo

Whimsicott | Klefki | Sableye @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 172 Def / 88 SpD
Calm Nature
- Spore
- Strength Sap
- Encore | Thunderwave
- Moonblast | Play Rough | Foul Play

Ah, prankster spore + strength sap, good for annoying your opponent

Whimsicott | Klefki | Sableye @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 172 Def / 88 SpD
Calm Nature
- Parting Shot
- Leech Seed | Spikes | Will-O-Wisp (or knock off)
- Encore | Thunderwave
- Moonblast | Play Rough | Foul Play

Prankster parting shot is amazing no matter where its used

Tangrowth @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Volt Switch
- Knock Off
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Good pivot with assault vest regenerator

Ground is an excellent type as now any defensive poke can get shore up + spikes. So many psychics/fairies benefit from earth power/earthquake

Psychic is also decent as it gives psystrike to mons like tapu lele, alakazam-mega and others. They also get hypnosis which is eh an option, also gives access to nice utilities such as trick and trick room. Oh and chansey also gets magic coat

Ice is really good as physical attackers that struggled with lando can now blow it back with icicle crash, it also gives ice beam as an option for mons that have to rely on hpice, defensige pokes can also get haze

Dark is also amazing giving mons nasty plot (why isnt this a more widely distributed move), power trip, knock off, darkest lariat and the best pivot move parting shot

Phew, well congrats for reaching the end if you read all that. Uh feel free to copy them i guess ?

Edit: apparently stupid morning sun is normal, thanks for the correction
Fell Stinger gets Technician boost, so Scizor is not that bad.

Ghost is also a neat type, with access to Curse, Z Trick-or-Treat, Spirit Shackle, Moongeist Beam, Night Shade, Shadow Force, and Spectral Thief.

Grass gets a lot of support and offensive options in: Spore, Sleep Powder, Stun Spore, Power Whip, Leaf Storm, Seed Flare, Wood Hammer, Worry Seed, Synthesis, Aromatherapy, Spiky Shield, Strength Sap, Petal Dance, Horn Leech, Giga Drain, Grass Knot, and Cotton Guard.

I steel want to try out some gimmicks

I found this metagame interesting after realizing it is a 'leader's choice' for this month. So I made this hypothetical offense team...

Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 224 Def / 36 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock / Whirlwind
- King's Shield
- Slack Off

A disgusting hippow that is even more painful to deal with after King's Shield. Sometimes, when dealing with physical attackers, Whirlwind is not as important because King's Shield halves their attack anyway. Usually being a lead, this Hipppowdon provides my team Stealth Rock support.

Kartana @ Steelium Z
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Sunsteel Strike
- Sacred Sword
- Swords Dance

With better STAB, it does better job breaking walls. Such as, after 2 Swords Dance, it can OHKO Skarmory outright with Sunsteel Strike, ignoring Sturdy.

Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def
Adamant Nature
- Gear Grind
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Pursuit

Now Scizor has even more offensive presence, and it helps me bluff Mega Scizor. Pursuit is just great for trapping threatening Psychic and Ghost-types. Also, it can remove potential Focus Sash which will help a lot if Hippowdon couldn't set rocks.

Magnezone @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 120 HP / 252 SpA / 136 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Doom Desire
- Hidden Power [Fire]

An executioner. It removes Skarmory, Ferrothorn, and Celesteela for Kartana and Garchomp. It can now do something worthwhile other than trapping called Doom Desire; not many likes to switch in choice-boosted 140 BP STAB move from 130+ Sp.Atk pokemon.

Garchomp-Mega @ Garchompite
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 96 HP / 252 Atk / 160 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Autotomize
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

This was an idea brought from double dance Primal Groudon in Ubers metagame. It does amazing job cleaning late game with its great natural bulk, and it generally forces a lot of switches before Mega Evolution. If sandstorm is active, it can break aforementioned Steel-types by itself.

Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Metal Burst
- Soft-Boiled
- Toxic / Aromatherapy
- Seismic Toss

Chansey is the only switch-in for special attackers in the team, and Metal Burst greatly reduces its passivity.

So yeh. What are your thoughts on this?

It's a decent team. I used it in one of the OM room's tournaments and got pretty far. Don't remember exactly what it was I lost to though, I think it might have been Electric.

So... something I haven't seen mention of that I feel deserves some love... Chatter. It's got big competition with Oblivion Wing as a coverage move to slap on special attackers, but 100% confusion and sub bypassing is definitely something to note. I don't have a team myself, but this alongside Oblivion Wing, Roost (hi ferrothorn), Beak Blast (thinking stabmons celesteela), and maybe Defog might make Flying a cool type to add to stall. Plus, with some paralysis spreaders, and maybe some rock slide or iron head action, a hax stall team very reminiscent of gen 6 but still nerfed could maybe be a thing. Here's a totally trash concept set just because:

Also i don't see bug broken and definitely not unhealthy for the meta.
And we simply don't suspect things out of the blue just because it will be good for the meta we do it when something becomes bad and unhealthy for it and i don't find bug being degenerate and a bitch to face till now and i am currently doing good with a mediocre typing such as flying.

Speaking of flying here are some good sets:

Thundurus @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Taunt
- Nasty Plot
- Oblivion Wing
- Thunderbolt

Exact same set as STABmons and almost equally effective in disposing off teams late game as well as sniping things mid-game. Probably one of the harshest stall-breakers available although i haven't faced a single Typemons stall till now. Substitute over Taunt can be run but i find the straight status stopping better but both are equally good, it's just preference.

Landorus-Therian @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 216 Def / 24 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Beak Blast
- U-turn
- Earthquake

Again almost the same set as run in STABmons and as good even though it does not have the pleasure of recovery since i have roost on my Zygarde. It's regular Lando and does what it is supposed to and acts as a volt switch block and now has the ability to actually punish random u-turns occurring around as well as keep dangerous setup sweepers or physical mons under check. Beak Blast also kinda hits hard since a 100 BP Stab is nothing to scoff at for semi-bulky or frail things.

Although flying is mediocre as hell when compared to types such as Bug, Grass or Fire but still it has some pretty cool implications since now you can run defog on anything you want, can run dragon ascent as a great coverage option, gain roost as recovery (please give this to Zygarde, Sub DD is amazing with recovery) and some nice memes such as Acrobatics and Tailwind.

I've been immensely enjoying Staraptor so far. Its big problem with coverage is completely fixed via Flare Blitz or Volt Tackle, making it a devastating Choiced attacker.

I guess you could drop Double-Edge for Close Combat, but I personally prefer having more STAB options.

I may swap this out with Mienshao, who could actually benefit from Electric Terrain and is faster.

Yknow, I feel like whenever anyone uses Flying they give the special attackers Oblivion Wing. I'd like to say that Aeroblast is also an option and hits much harder, even if it lacks the draining effect. It might be better sometimes.
Just a little thing.

Just a little thing.
the problem with aeroblast is that 20 base power isnt enough most of the time to justify use over oblivion wing, which sacrifices small power for infinitely higher survivability and perfect accuracy to boot. think about it like this:

aeroblast gives thunderus more attacking power, but oblivion wing provides it with a move that essentially recovers 33% or more of its HP allowing its survivability to be MUCH more appriciated which gives it the extra turns needed to easily outdamage aeroblast.

an example is thunderus vs chansey. stoss wipes out thunderus in about 4 turns, which isnt enough for thunderus to KO chansey back even WITH taunt and +2. meanwhile with oblivion wing, chansey with toxic and stoss wont last through oblivion wing which lets tornadus outlast chansey with NO effort, while turning chansey into setup fodder on top of that.

aeroblasts niche lies with regenerator tornadus/glass cannons, as the survivability obwing gives is just too good to pass up.

25 base power :P
also a high crit ratio, which can matter.

You're right that Aeroblast is an option and that "it might be better sometimes." And this is not one of those times. In my Flying team in the team dump up there, Oblivion Wing is superior because of the ridiculous amount of recovery it brings. Celesteela's natural bulk and defensive typing are fantastic, and the incredible healing it provides prevents most things from being able to revenge kill it that would be able to if it were at less health. You're right that Aeroblast is better sometimes. But sometimes = always.

And the difference between the two is 20, not 25.

I wasn't talking about your team specifically therefore that is irrelevant.
The second bit is right tho, I always think it's just Flying Giga Drain :P

Bug is not broken. I don't believe we will ever find a single type to be broken in this metagame, besides the banned normal type (I could of course be proven wrong). What I think makes Bug type merit a ban is there is little reason NOT to use it. It has amazing amounts of support and utility. Sticky Web allows powerful wallbreakers to break and sweep, more easily, Tail Glow in combination with Sticky Web is incredibly potent. It has priority in First Impression, Recovery in Heal Order, and crucially pivoting in U-Turn. Basically the one thing its not is an innately good offensive type, but you don't need to spam moves of the type you choose to have a good team.

I'm glad you're doing well with Flying. I saw you play earlier, and you had 3 flying types, AKA three pokemon immune to Sticky Web, Bugs most potent (imo) tool.

I've been playing with a pretty poorly put together team. Half of it tends to end up being fodder, but I've been doing fairly well just because of how good the combination of Tail Glow and Sticky Web is.

Works by Lele pivoting into Mega Zam, which either Tail Glows and sweeps or just sweeps, depending what its up against... I'm considering changing Lele to Terrain Extender and getting a different scarfer.

tl;dr Bug isn't broken in that it's not unbeatable, by any means, but its too good in that there's not enough reason to run other types. I think the best solution is to ban/suspect Sticky Web, which is the main tool which an equivalent cant be found elsewhere. Bug will still have enough to be a good, maybe even great, type between U-Turn and Tail Glow and Heal Order.

On a different note I would recommend looking at the Sketchmons banlist as a guide for this meta, as many of the same threats exist. Spore and / or Dugtrio seem to be overpowered, but I don't really want to talk about them, not having used them yet.
EDIT: Halliday v IT11 IT11 had 4 mons immune to Arena Trap and Sporetrio still tore apart his team. This deserves a ban.

If I can be clearer on anything please let me know.

I also agree on the sticky web ban, I think it gives bug a little too much power paired with tail glow and uturn, the former allowing immense sweeping power when scarfers cannot revenge and the latter giving good switchins to setup with. Bug I think would be pretty fair without webs, as it gives setup and pivot and decent utility in heal order, but it wouldn't have the same terrifying power it currently does.
