Tyranitar

You really can't consider the boosted sp. defense base stat, as it is removable by any other weather ect, it isn't always there like a base stat. Just saying, not making any agrument at Kyurem at all.

I'd say that's fairly true now, with Ninetales and especially Politoed in the mix, but Bologo's point still stands because 4th Gen Tyranitar basically did have an unchallenged Sp.D boost (really, abamasnow? don't make me laugh). We dealt with Tyranitar alright last gen, and Kyuuremu this one will be not so different.

But then, both Tyranitar and Kyuuremu have terribly questionably typing-- particularly from the defensive side. They also lack the speed to avoid their common weaknesses. If TTar and Kyuuremu had their base stats allocated more effectively to avoid hits, I'd have second opinions about both.

I use this specific TTar - it too can take out Politoed, but also Gliscor with minimal ATK EVs, and a whole lot of other stuff.

Tyranitar @ Choice Band
[252 HP / 200 Atk / 56 Def]
Careful Natured (+SpD, -SpA)
Sand Stream
-Stone Edge
-Crunch
-Pursuit
-(I don't have a specific move for this slot as of yet - I don't really use EQ all that much. Maybe one of the Elemental Punches?)

Anyway, it's really bulkeh and strong.

While you have the COMPLETELY WRONG idea of Tyranitar in Rain, Choice Scarf Unnerve Tyranitar is really good on a Drought or even just a Sunny Day team. I'm talking about just normal CS Tyranitar. Stone Edge, Pursuit, Crunch, Superpower. Not anything with Fire Blast or silly crap like that. Having that extremely potent revenge Pokemon that removes the Lati twins and really anything in that omnipresent 110 Speed tier without changing to an undesirable weather is a really nice cushion to any team, but especially Sun teams.

I honestly can't wait for it to be released. Tyranitar is one of those Pokemon that can fit on ANY team, but he's always been limited to Sandstorm Teams because many teams just don't want Sandstorm up. While the Sp.Def boost is one of the big things that makes him so desirable, he functions as a revenge Pokemon just fine without it. I can almost guarantee it's going to be one of those things like Poison Heal Gliscor. It was seldom seen for a long time, but it slowly became standard.

Without sandstorm your special defense ain't so hot man. Tyranitar is much worse of a pursuit killer without it. Aside from the odvious psychic, it doesn't take special hits that well without it.

What.

Tyranitar has the same special bulk as Mew, Celebi, etc. Fighting-type moves and strong attacks like Surf(not an issue for Drought teams) and Grass Knot(rare now) are what's killing him.

I don't feel like doing calcs, but the loss in special defense is big. I used tension tyranitar a while ago, and it fails to be a great pursuiter. As for other rolls, yes but not that.

I have to agree. Tyranitar largely succeeds in revenging because the things that can take a 40 BP Pursuit can OHKO him with special attacks. Specs Latios DM will be doing far more damage to the dinosaur without the SpD boost

As for calcs it take 33 % more than it would be at normal weather.

But seriously, Ttar is probably best pokemon in any metagame it has been existed(except GSC where snorlax is basicaly Uber powered) overall.
Just to show how great it is, even if not used for sandstorm summoning, he can still put on a team AND become a dominant pokemon in a metagame where theres like 60 % of metagame counter or check him.

I'm surprised this thread isn't more active...

Ttar is the ultimate Shandera counter, and is probably the most versatile poke in the metagame right now.

It can be a lead with rocks, band, scarf, mixed, bulky, DD

I'm going to be experimenting with some sets, if I find a good one I'll post it

Is it just me or are we using a a lot more DD tyranitars?
I don't know about that, as most Ttar's I face are used rather poorly, for they forgot Haxorape rapes.

Joking aside, I can't tell for sure, as most teams I've faced lately are rain stall.
Hate stall so much now. Every time I see a team like that, I know I have to pull out everything to corner them.
Ttar is a boss, tho. Still at the top even with his many weaknesses. If that isn't the mark of a true boss, I don't know what it is.

Yeah, there has been a huge spike in DDtars for some reason. It makes no sense to me. Yeah Excadrill is banned, but Excadrill is not the reason DDtar isn't viable anymore, fighting types are. Mach Punch, Close Combat, Drain Punch, and High Jump Kick are still flying around everywhere. DDtar is basically asking do die against the likes of Conkeldurr and Terrakion. If anything, DDtar is even less viable now that Alakazam is making its presenc known.

Tyranitar is a fantastic pokemon, without a doubt, but people are misusing it so badly with Excadrill gone. Tyranitar shouldn't be going for sweeps, it should be doing what its best at. Taking out psychic and ghost types such as Latios and Gengar and being a great power hitter/ special wall. Hell, Choice Scarf is a more viable option than DD. Why so many DDtars are popping up baffles me. The only viable reason to use DDtar is on a Hyper Offense team that wants sand support to shut down Chlorophyllers.

I actually think the spike in DD Tyranitar is because of the Excadrill ban, but not because Excadrill made DDtar unviable. Excadrill was one of the only reasons you wanted to keep sand up (Landorus functions just fine without it) so people are playing more loosely with their Tyranitars since it's sand isn't as valuble.

I disagree completely. Sand is just as valuable as before for the simple reason that you need it to act as an anti-weather against Drizzle and Drought. With Excadrill gone, sun and rain offense have gotten a lot more potent and it is more important than ever to keep Tyranitar alive.

I've actually tested out subDD tyranitar with stone edge/fire punch and crunch and it does quite well...i was wondering if anyone had some success with the set?

I done the same thing but I run Crunch,Stone edge. I might try out fire punch but usally I dont use ttar before I KO ferrothorn.
