Underdog's Crusade

For one to win, for one to conquer. For one to tire of glamor and retire from into the noir. Weary of the same, dreary of another. Seeking the thrill and rush of anticipation. That is what I wanted. To claim that challenge, to attempt another suicidal feat, but what is there to do? To be reborn as an Underdog.

If you've seen my posts on the RMT board, you'll know I'm a UU/BL user. If not, I'll describe myself in brief. I'm just someone who got sick of fighting the same pool of Pokemon with the same pool, never having anything to stir up the battles. So I retired for a while, and here I am; cladding a team of the rarely to never used, I challenge the OU's.

I've been playing on Shoddy all day, challenging OU players. Out of 15 games played, I won 12. I lost one because I chose the wrong move by accident at the end, when it was down to 1 on 1. Calculations show I would've won. =.=

The other two times I lost, but those were mistakes I accept and understand. And I'd like to share my most recent victory, as a Warstory.

Highly sent out Espeon (lvl 100 Espeon ?).
scsrhino sent out Mightyena (lvl 100 Mightyena ?).
Mightyena's intimidate cut Espeon's attack!
Highly switched in Shuckle (lvl 100 Shuckle ?).
Mightyena used Howl.
Mightyena's attack was raised.

Right off the bat, I was worried. Many would argue, on how HP Fighting would end it swiftly. However, I traded that in for HP Electric, something much less common, and a vital reason I've won so many battles.
---
Mightyena used Ice Fang.
Shuckle lost 18% of its health.
Shuckle used Encore.
Mightyena got an encore!
Shuckle's leftovers restored its health a little!
Shuckle restored 6% of its health.

My tank, Shuckle. My usual trap tactic goes on here.
---
scsrhino switched in Dragonite (lvl 100 Dragonite ?).
Shuckle used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around your foe's team!
Shuckle's leftovers restored its health a little!
Shuckle restored 6% of its health.

I knew a switch was gonna happen soon, but this soon I did not predict. Still, I thought it was only a minor setback, and continued on.

---
Dragonite is tightening its focus!
Shuckle used Encore.
But it failed!
Dragonite used Focus Punch.
Shuckle lost 41% of its health.
Dragonite lost 10% of its health.
Shuckle's leftovers restored its health a little!
Shuckle restored 6% of its health.

This was painful. For me to lose so much Hp in one go, I thought I lost my edge.
---
Dragonite used Draco Meteor.
Shuckle lost 48% of its health.
Dragonite's special attack was harshly lowered.
Dragonite lost 10% of its health.
Shuckle used Toxic.
Dragonite was badly poisoned!
Dragonite is hurt by poison!
Dragonite lost 6% of its health.
Shuckle's leftovers restored its health a little!
Shuckle restored 6% of its health.

By now, I knew that I was done for, and instead of living to soak up damage another round, I just tried my best to hurt Dragonite while I still could.
---
Dragonite used Draco Meteor.
Shuckle lost 18% of its health.
Highly's Shuckle fainted.
Dragonite's special attack was harshly lowered.
Dragonite lost 10% of its health.

Overkill, but it did kill Shuckle. RIP.

Jabs used Ice Punch.
Cresselia lost 17% of its health.
Cresselia's leftovers restored its health a little!
Cresselia restored 6% of its health.

I was too rash here, but this was as good as I got I guess. I had nothing particularly good against Psychic types, so Ice Punch was a good a move as any.
---
Highly switched in Espeon (lvl 100 Espeon ?).
Cresselia used Reflect.
A barrier was formed!
Cresselia's leftovers restored its health a little!
Cresselia restored 6% of its health.

Fearing for the safety of my MVP Sweeper, I had him switched out. I was anticipating a countermeasure against him, probably Thunderwave. However, I was wrong there. The switch would've protected from both a Psychic attack, and a TWave, but this worked too... I guess.
---
Espeon used Shadow Ball.
It's super effective!
Cresselia lost 56% of its health.
Cresselia's special defence was lowered.
Cresselia used Thunder Wave.
Espeon is paralysed! It may be unable to move!
Cresselia is paralysed! It may be unable to move!
Cresselia's leftovers restored its health a little!
Cresselia restored 6% of its health.

Now here is a crucial moment. Synchronize is playing it's role quite well.

Mightyena's intimidate cut Espeon's attack!
Pointed stones dug into Mightyena.
Mightyena lost 12% of its health.
Espeon used Shadow Ball.
It's not very effective...
Mightyena lost 40% of its health.

Choice Specs aren't that nice to Espeon, but I didn't want to danger any other Poke's yet, so I had to bite the bullet.
---
Highly switched in Jabs (lvl 100 Hitmonchan ?).
Mightyena used Sucker Punch.
But it failed!

Lucky for me, he used a move perfect for allowing the foe to switch out without getting hurt.
---
Mightyena used Sucker Punch.
It's not very effective...
Jabs lost 32% of its health.
Jabs used Ice Punch.
Mightyena lost 24% of its health.

This hurt, although not as much as it would've be it Espeon out here. I predicted a switch out, so I chose Ice. Turns out, it wasn't a wise choice afterall.
---
Mightyena used Sucker Punch.
It's not very effective...
Jabs lost 31% of its health.
Jabs used Ice Punch.
Mightyena lost 23% of its health.

Mightyena's reflect wore off!

The bane of Hitmonchan's existence wears off, and I'm free to use him to his full potential.

While he was taking his sweet time to buff up, I wiped that Substitute away.

Infernape lost 10% of its health.
Torkai's leftovers restored its health a little!
Torkai restored 6% of its health.

I expected a fire attack, or at least a hard hitting Physical. So out comes Torkoal, the one thing that can take 2 hits before death. The reason for 2+ hits is because.....
---
Infernape used Nasty Plot.
Infernape's special attack was sharply raised.
Torkai used Explosion.
Infernape lost 78% of its health.
scsrhino's Infernape fainted.

It wasn't a victory like the previous ones against all OU's, but this did deliver a point. ( I hope...) That the laughed at BL and UU are formidable, and are every bit as powerful as a team of OU's, provided they're used right. I know someone will state this team isn't completely OU, well, I'm sorry, but I didn't save logs from the all OU battles. Thank you for reading.

It would be nice to put the score each time something faints. Other than that nice battle, it was interesting. I liked your team. There were a few mistakes on each side, but it was overall decent.

hell yes, this was a pretty nice battle. putting the score at the end like the above poster said would help, though

Roger, I'll do that next time. I'm pondering if I should or not. I just won a 4 OU, 2 UU battle against someone, using the same team. It's rather amusing how easy it is to win, yet everyone still chooses to use the same old Pokes from OU.

Beating an OU team with a UU team really isn't anything special. It really annoys me when people make a big deal out of it. That being said, it was a rather nice battle.

It would also make it much more understandable if the scores were edited in.

Anything is possible, the question is, is it being done? I haven't seen a UU/BL team yet, and I've been playing for a while. Then there are those who wanna stay strictly in UU or BL, just because they think it's hard or impossible to fight OU's. Well, I'm just here stapling proof it's not hard, it's almost the same as using a OU team, except you get to expand the gameplay from just the same Pokes that are used over and over again, to these never touched critters. ^_^

You've probably not faced a UU team yet because you've been playing in a OU environment. Try the UU tab on Shoddy.

Wait, I though most people played UU because they simply wanted a change, not because it's "too hard".. Unless you're saying they think it's hard to use UU Pokemon in an OU environment, in which case they should be playing in UU anyway.

ehh whatever. I'm not going to continue to mess this thread up.

Yes most people play UU because they want to broaden their horizens. However fighting OU with UU's is rather difficult according to most people. So the OP decided to make a UU/BL team to prove that it is not hard to fight OU's with these lesser pokemon.

Been there, done that, wrote the warstories ... I just got bored doing it, and would now rather play pure UU.

Bologo is another player who frequently takes on OU with lower tier pokemon and is probably the best at it.

There are other players who take on OU, with UU pokemon, its just there are not that many, and fewer still willing to invest the time creating war-stories.

You've probably not faced a UU team yet because you've been playing in a OU environment. Try the UU tab on Shoddy.

Unfortunately as Highlygifted team is UU/BL s/he might not get a particularly positive response from UU players ... strictly speaking BL pokemon are generally considered too powerful for UU, and so the team would need modification to be widely accepted in UU play.

Yeah, I used to do it a lot too, and had a reasonable amount of success. The first team I got into the Shoddy 100 was pure UU, but that really isn't as much of an accomplishment now I've realised just how easy it is to get there. However, as the metagame advanced, the quality gap between my UUs and their OU's began to grow.

Nowadays, I just use a OU base with a few UU/BL's thrown in to keep my cool factor up. The metagame has become so hyper-offensive that pure UU's can simply no longer compete. There's only so many times Muk can switch into Gengar, and Garchomp can easily walk through a UU team. Only the likes of Aggron can stand up to Outrage, and he's demolished by Earthquake. I used to use a Scarf Ice Beam Sharpedo to take him down, but then when the ScarfChomp spike happened, the little guy had no chance.

I remember it being great fun though, so keep it up for as long as you want!

Muk usually gets loads of action, countering Steel types. I Encore them with Shuckle, and snap out Muk. A Fire Punch to the Scizor hurts, especially when they're loling at Poison v. Steel. This time, he wasn't needed sadly, because I usually use him as bait at least.

Not many people expect a Hitmonchan being able to outspeed OU Pokemon, so that's his advantage; bearing a Choice Scarf to sweep.

Choice Scarf Hitmonlee has been quite effective for me in past battles. I can understand how great that is from experience. Plus, anytime a non-OU team beats an OU team just satisfies me so much!
