UU Simple Questions Thread

I wasn't saying that passive stall teams always lose to threats but that passivity implies a greater importance of taking hits and less of a focus on dealing damage with your own attacks. In this sense, the stall team you mentioned is passive yet like you also said, it is possible to fit in tech moves in order to deal with some of the problems that normal "passive" teams can face.

When Venomoth was banned from UU, NU was still in beta, so if it is "force dropped" the way Medicham and Gallade were handled then it'll probably be going to RU since that was the lowest tier it officially existed in.

Sam mentioned a tier shift happening early in August. It this going to affect UU open or at least the early rounds of UU open?

The first round of the UU open (apparently) starts July 31st (sign ups are before that, keep an eye on grand slam forum :O), meaning that the first round will be played with the July 31st meta game (as it works with all tournaments). The second round will likely start the second week of August, and be played in the post shift meta game (in all tournies you play the meta as it was when the round was posted).

What would ya'll suggest as an effective counter for Mamoswine other than Darmanitan? Assuming Mamo isn't scarfed.

EDIT: Thinking more on the offensive side.

Decent checks can be stuff like mega seamoert, suicune, lucario, hearcross, cobalion. Basically anything that out speeds and ohkos but doesn't die to ice shard

Empoleon has the highest usage of any wall in UU for 1760 usage stats. Do you think this is a direct result of Mega Pidge or is this because empoleon fits so well on team building pidge or not.

I think there are a few notable things about Empoleon that contribute to its viability and high usage regardless of Pidgeot.
-it offers a lot of utility in one slot, so it works really well on balance or bulky offense teams which demand role compression. On one set it can do all of set hazards, remove hazards, spread status (Scald, though Toxic is viable if one other move isn't needed), and phase, while similar options like Tentacruel, Donphan, and Forretress have to pick and choose which of those they pack.
-with some investment in physical defense instead of the standard fully special spread, Empoleon becomes one of the better checks to Feraligatr (it can even run Grass Knot on such a set so that you aren't relying on a Scald burn to beat it)
-Empoleon isn't strictly limited to a defensive utility set; recently at least I've seen a lot of lure sets popping up with offensive spreads, particularly utilizing Shuca Berry to nab surprise kills on things like Aerodactyl, Nidoqueen, and even Mamoswine and Krookodile. Agility is also an option to really catch people off-guard and clean up weakened teams late game.

So maybe it was Pidgeot's presence that inspired people to experiment with Empoleon over similar options lately, but I don't see it falling to the wayside just because Pidge was banned.

assuming ur switchin Darmanitan on predicted Shards (otherwise u would die), Cobalion can do pretty much the same job while fulfilling different roles than Darm (that is pretty much one dimensional)

What would be the optimal EV spread for a Swords Dance Pangoro right now?

I've seen a 108 HP / 252 Atk / 148 Spe spread before, but imo it's a tad too slow to wallbreak efficiently as it hits 189 speed.

I'd suggest using this instead:

Pangoro (M) @ Life Orb / Lum Berry
Trait: Iron Fist
EVs: 64 HP / 252 Atk / 192 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)

- Swords Dance
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Poison Jab / Gunk Shot

If you're using this spread, Pangoro hits 220 speed which lets it outspeed many common defensive mons. Attack EVs are self explanatory and the rest can be dumped into HP. I guess you can tweak the speed EVs a little bit but Pangoro hits 236 speed max after full EVs and a speed boosting nature, so I guess there's little to nothing else worth outspeeding there.

Pangoro @ Lum Berry/ Life Orb
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 32 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Gunk Shot
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off

Keep it adamant imo while keeping enough speed to take on crocune and cresselia. I don't see a need for jolly as this speed takes on mandibuzz and below.

What exactly do the standard curselax evs hit/do?
Curselax's 144 HP / 188 Def EV investment is meant to turn it into a sponge against physical hits after a Curse, such as let it survive a High Jump Kick from Choice Scarf Mienshao and Close Combat from jolly band Heracross at +1. It also allows Snorlax to survive two Brave Birds from sky plate Crobat before any defense boosts. The remaining 176 Special Defense EVs and a Careful nature allow Curselax to also survive a 2HKO from Mega Blastoise's Aura Sphere. The mixed defensive spread is designed to take on countless other threats as well such as Nidoqueen.

Any suggestions for this team I'm building, right now it is Swords Dance Pangoro, Doublade, Heliolisk, and DD Mence.

Pangoro usually fails to achieve KOs on bulky waters such as Suicune, but you've remedied that by running a Heliolisk :] There are still pokemon like Gligar that can give u a bit of trouble, so running a bulky water of your own wouldn't be such a bad idea. All that you have to worry about after that are faster offensive pokemon, so running a scarfer such as Darmanitan (gives u a nice voltturn core) or a naturally fast pokemon such as Mega Aerodactyl could help alleviating that weakness.

Hey, I have a quick question about Shaymin. I just had a match vs someone and beated his first 4 pokemon without ko and he/she used an Shaymin with strage attacks. It ohko my first 3 pokemon and had six attacks total! Extrasensory, night daze, leech seed, seed flare, earth power and air slash. I killed it after air slash, so i cant tell if there were more... It out speeded my thundurus with 353 speed without buffs or something else, Choice Scarf shouldt be possible and other items too cause it got an knock off in the second round or so. Is this even possible or was this an hack? I've made an screenshot.
