Project UU Victim of the Week (Round Twenty Four: Rhyperior)

Twilight they are I was so attracted to trying to get my voting post in that I didn't look up over Estarossa's post. I'm deeply sorry. Scizorphobic 's submissions are valid. So since you and Sickist already voted you guys may change your votes if you want to replace one of your votes with one of Phobic's submissions. Also since Mega Aerodactyl gives me 5 checks, I'm at the minimum amount where I'm safe to say that you can vote for two checks now. Again, I sincerely apologize for this little slip up.

Ok we got two ties here between Mega Aerodactyl and Hydreigon for Checks and Mega Altaria and Togekiss for Counters! Since I still feel a little guilty, I'll hand checks to Phobic and then Togekiss gets my vote for Counters because Togekiss I feel is a little underappreciated due to the rise of new Fairies.
The Winners are:
162101
162102

Scizorphobic and Mapplle
A lot of fierce voting between Mega Aerodactyl and Hydreigon with Checks this week but I guess that was expected! Congrats to Scizorphobic and Mapplle for winning this week with your birbs! Your sets will be placed into the archive!

Checks:
Mega Aerodactyl=4
Hydreigon=4
Doublade=0
Gengar=0
Mega Sharpedo=0

Counters:
Mega Altaria=3
Togekiss=3
Alolan Muk=2
Blissey=1
Florges=1
Bronzong=0
Sylveon=0

Round 8's Victim is:
Rotom-H

Rotom-Heat @ Iapapa Berry / Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 236 HP / 20 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog / Pain Split
- Volt Switch
- Overheat
- Toxic / Will-O-Wisp

I had no other specific Pokémon that I wanted to do this week so we'll be using Rotom-H as our next Victim! Rotom-H is blessed with Levitate along with a fantastic typing that lets it ward off Scizor and Flying-types and has positive matchups against multiple Stealth Rock setters which makes Rotom-H a strong gluemon to support teams in the early game! Submissions are due by Wednesday because I'm done giving a specific time at this point.

Nihilego @ Expert Belt / Black Sludge
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Power Gem
- Sludge Wave
- Grass Knot
- Stealth Rock
Nihilego eats everything from it with ease and is immune to Toxic, so only really fears Wisp from bulky Rotom. It can then OHKO back with LO or a roll to do so with E-belt. While Black Sludge doesn't OHKO the passive recovery is nice. Nihi also always set rocks easily vs it.

20 SpA Rotom-Heat Overheat vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Nihilego: 59-69 (16.4 - 19.2%) -- possible 8HKO after Black Sludge recovery

252 SpA Nihilego Power Gem vs. 236 HP / 0 SpD Rotom-Heat: 242-288 (80.6 - 96%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Expert Belt Nihilego Power Gem vs. 236 HP / 0 SpD Rotom-Heat: 290-346 (96.6 - 115.3%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO

252 SpA Life Orb Nihilego Power Gem vs. 236 HP / 0 SpD Rotom-Heat: 315-374 (105 - 124.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Aerodactyl-Mega @ Aerodactylite
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit
- Aqua Tail
- Roost
Maero revenges with Stone Edge, it can even Roost if low and become grounded meaning it takes it electric stab neautrally. Aqua Tail if Rotom-H is in range as it is more accurate. Can also prevent a berry pop if it hasn't mega'd yet which is cool.

yeah the oven hates rock types

162104
Rhyperior (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Atk / 240 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance / Toxic
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
Rhyperior is a solid counter that only fears toxic from Rotom-H and otherwise having no fears. Once in they may get rocks up, sd, etc.
162103
Terrakion @ Babiri Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Swords Dance
- Stealth Rock
Terrakion smacks a lot of shit and Rotom-H can't tank a Stone Edge, good check. Can even come in to Overheats.

162137

Latias @ Dragonium Z
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Calm Mind
- Roost

Latias is a strong Check to Rotom-H as it resists most of what it can do and threaten it with frighteningly powerful Draco Meteors or a Devastating Drake while setting up in it's face. it does fear toxic though, and Rotom-H can escape it's wrath with a volt switch, barring it from being a full blown counter.
162136

Gligar @ Eviolite
Ability: Immunity
EVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 100 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Roost
- Defog/Stealth Rock
- Toxic

Gligar with toxic is a Counter to Rotom-H, as it easily resists everything Rotom-H can throw at it while wearing it down with toxic, it doesn't care as much about will-o-wisp as Rotom-H cares about toxic, and it itself cannot be hit with a toxic from Rotom-H. it can keep wearing down Rotom-H while also defogging hazards or even trying to muscle it's own hazards past the Oven's defogs.

Band Zydog as check

Zygarde-10% @ Choice Band
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Thousand Arrows
- Outrage
- Extreme Speed
- Toxic
Thousand Arrows smacks everything, OHKO Fat Rotom-H even when burned.

DD Refresh Altaria as counter

Altaria-Mega @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 72 HP / 252 Atk / 184 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Return
- Refresh
- Roost
Set-up fodder for this set.

Edit: Change Earthquake -> Refresh

reserving defensive Swampert

Defensive Swampert as a check

Swampert @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Toxic / Roar
Swampert takes little to no damage from Overheat, blocks Volt Switch and can 2HKO Rotom-Heat with Scald or proceed to set up Stealth Rocks or throw a Toxic/ phaze something away. However Swampert dislikes being Toxic'd/burned as they neutralize the heal from its Leftovers, its only form of recovery

Alright voting time! Swampert is getting bumped to a Counter as it is a rocker that has a seriously positive matchup against Rotom-H and switches in with relative ease. Also bukemon123 you say you have DD Refresh Mega Altaria as a counter but the set you posted has Earthquake instead. I will still include it though as a Counter I just wanted to remind you. Here’s what you can vote for:

Checks:
Mega Aerodactyl by Twilight

Babiri Berry Terrakion by Scizorphobic

CM Dragonium Latias by Smallsmallrose

Choice Band Zygarde 10% by bukemon123

Counters:
Nihilego by Twilight

Rhyperior by Scizorphobic

Toxic Gligar by Smallsmallrose

DD Refresh Mega Altaria by bukemon123

Defensive Swampert by Daiyaga

Alright vote for two counters and one check. Voting ends Saturday!

It’s technically Sunday in my time zone bitches!
The Winner is:

I’m disappointed with no Seismitoad mention this week but anyway, bukemon123 won with both Zydog and Mega Altaria! Your submissions will be placed into the archive.

Round 9’s Victim is:
Nasty Plot Infernape

Infernape @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Focus Blast
- Vacuum Wave

Hey, Lure That Threat is currently covering Infernape, so how about we make it our next Victim! There are many different kinds of Infernape sets so we’ll be sticking to the most common and deadliest one: Nasty Plot Infernape. This set is notorious for being able to bust through Stall while also still being a fearsome sweeper against other playstyles. Get your submissions in by Wednesday!

Nightingales

// FLY HIGH, STRIKE HARD
CM Latias as a Counter
Latias @ Dragonium Z or Psychium Z
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Roost

Latias comes in on literally ANYTHING Infernape has. If it clicks Nasty Plot, it loses, if it clicks either attacking move it does equally little, even at +2 Ape needs Rocks + Some Chip or Vacuum Wave + ZMove to knock out. Meanwhile, Latias with Roost effectively walls off Infernape in a 1v1 situation, while still having the ability to blast through a good chunk of teams with the free turn, and OHKOs Infernape with no setup needed.

+2 252 SpA Infernape All-Out Pummeling (190 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Latias: 210-248 (69.7 - 82.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

+2 252 SpA Infernape Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Latias: 123-144 (40.8 - 47.8%) -- 59.8% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

+2 252 SpA Infernape Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Latias: 133-157 (44.1 - 52.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

+2 252 SpA Infernape Vacuum Wave vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Latias: 45-53 (14.9 - 17.6%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Latias Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Infernape: 306-362 (104.4 - 123.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Scarf Latias as counter
Latias @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psychic
- Trick
- Healing Wish
Scarf Lati RKs with Infernape with STABs or use Trick for SpD walls coming to check it. Either with item or not, Lati outspeeds Ape.

252 SpA Latias Psychic vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Infernape: 348-410 (118.7 - 139.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Latias Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Infernape: 250-295 (85.3 - 100.6%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

+2 252 SpA Infernape Vacuum Wave vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Latias: 45-53 (14.9 - 17.6%) -- possible 6HKO
+2 252 SpA Infernape All-Out Pummeling (190 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Latias: 210-248 (69.7 - 82.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252 SpA Blaze Infernape Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Latias: 183-216 (60.7 - 71.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (Blaze)

[hide = importable]
Starmie @ Life Orb/Waterium Z
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Psyshock
- Rapid Spin
[/hide]
Starmie is a fantastic Check because it can always switch in at least once from full. either taking a nasty plot vaccum wave after rocks or taking a an AOP into Vaccum Wave after rocks and can always KO in return.

163284

Primarina @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Moonblast
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Bulky Primarina is a great COUNTER to infernape, always threatening to OHKO it with scald while taking most of what it can do even when boosted. It can heal as well, letting it come in more than once if needed

163315

Moltres @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Fire Blast
- Roost
- U-turn

Moltres is a nice check, being able to switch into both of Infernape's STAB moves and beating it with Hurricane / Supersonic Skystrike.

Gengar @ Ghostium Z
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast
- Substitute
A good check to NP Ape as it is reliant on Vacuum Wave for dealing with faster Pokemon, but that obviously doesn't work on Gengar. You then proceed to nuke it with a Ghostium-Z.

252 SpA Gengar Never-Ending Nightmare (160 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Infernape: 348-409 (118.7 - 139.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Slowbro-Mega @ Slowbronite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 76 Def / 180 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Slack Off
MegaBro / Slowbro don't care at all about this Ape set. It just sits there and eats anything and basically OHKOs back with Scald or Psyshock. Calm Mind boosts its SpD to even use it as set-up fodder and thanks to Shell Armor you can't break through it via hacks. Before evolving it can always pivot in and get back its health with Regenerator. It should also be noted that in regular form it can eat a Grass Knot from Ape at +2 and do a sizeable chunk back.

0 SpA Slowbro-Mega Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Infernape: 288-338 (98.2 - 115.3%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

+2 252 SpA Infernape All-Out Pummeling (190 BP) vs. 252 HP / 180 SpD Slowbro-Mega: 259-306 (65.7 - 77.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+2 252 SpA Infernape Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 252 HP / 180 SpD Slowbro: 294-346 (74.6 - 87.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

0 SpA Slowbro Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Infernape: 230-272 (78.4 - 92.8%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

on my phone rn, but offensive altaria as a check.

ape at +2 is an issue as it has a slight chance to ohko from full with aop so it can’t afford to be chipped (worst case scenario if you’re running 0 hp investment, but run something like 40 hp and you will always survive from full; i’m a huge fan of running at least 72 hp on adamant variants), but adamant m-alt ohkos with eq 75% of the time without hazards and jolly kos 93% of the time with one sr switchin (or anything equivalent). if the z fighting is already consumed though, it becomes a much more reliable switch-in (again, as long as ape isn’t already at +2).

also under the same logic, moltres isn’t really a counter to ape
