Hmm. I should be able to make it this year since it's been soo long since the last time I participated in VGCs. I'm hoping to make it past the 1st round IF I do manage to go and meet some new friends too. My bestfriend lives in Jersey so I should be able to work something out with a visit for that weekend hopefully.

Good Luck to all who are participating :D.

same shit different year. Will probably play if I ever get the chance to finish white and actually build a decent team.

Love the reference! Also, building a team might not be hard. You can probably get possibly half or more of your team from trade threads and others right here on Smogon.

haven't played competitively since rby, but i went to this last year and spectating was a real unique experience. i'm planning on going again this year but this time bringing blue and the old gameboy. so if anyone else wants to BATTLE 'EM old school after the main event, it would be very cool.

i also will have either 2 or 3 spots in the car, so if anyone from the boston area wants in, send me a pm. murderers need not apply.

i might be there. It will be nice to meet some people in the competitive battling scene.

Just have to actually put together a non-shitty VGC team now

Edit: Masters series lets goooooooo.

Hey there everyone, acceleration here. Wanted to hear out all your feedback on what you think about Pokemon VGC 2011 at Newark. Very interested by the comments. I will be at the site at around 7:30 going with Rukario and ChileBowl. I will be playing in the Seniors division =). Hope to be seeing one of you smogoners and introducing myself there. I really am hoping that people that people meet their desires and sorry for the people who don't.
My location is pretty close to Secaucus so I don't have a problem in terms of traveling(Thank god). Lets all hope that we also play people from the age range of 10-13, very easy to pass by them. Btw, people start to come in at 8, whoever said it starts at 8 is wrong. We should start...I'd say around 9. Possibly even earlier but I highly doubt the max capacity of seniors will come. I haven't created my team mainly being that we just found out about the metagame yesterday so I'm in a testing phase right now. Quick question, how are is the competition as senior level? Some people say it will be a breeze, while others fight back replying that its not as easy as it may seem to be. Who else is a senior here? Please do tell because I am curious as to the competition which remains on my mind. Thank you. =)

The thing about Regionals is it's all luck, it's really hard to say how hard the competition will be. Generally speaking, with guys like Rukario and Human who are high-class Seniors players, along with many more, the competition will be tough. However, there's a lot of luck that comes down to it, because it's all based on who you compete against. For example, I faced someone around my age with a team of non ubers (Porygon Z / Raichu leads I think) in Round 3 last turn. Honestly speaking, I think I got pretty lucky to finish 4th place at Regionals last year. I had a few crits go my way, went against some easy (but also very hard!) opponents, etc.

My suggestion for this? Knowing your competition, and potentially using the Friend Rule. I managed to sneak past going against one or two Seniors I knew were good. You can't do anything about it once you get into the Top 32, but that should be good enough. (though some people were more generous last year... Unfortunately I had to go against friends in both Top 16 and Top 8 at Regionals last year)

Good luck. I look forward to meeting you there! (I am a Senior as well c:)

Interesting that you pointed that out Cybertron about Regionals being all about luck. It is indeed true that the ordering of players is based upon luck. I think I saw you last year at VGC 2010 at Newark, however, we didn't talk much or talk at all, I forgot.

I had thought that friend rule was not going to be used this year being all the hassle it cause in the previous years, however, it could have been rumors for all I know. 4th place Regionals? Congrats on your achievement there. Surprised how a 10-14 year old surpassed many trainers who could be from the ages 10-30 or even higher. Question cybertron, why don't I ever see you on Pokemon Online?

Looking at the haxs, I did see a beat up combo at Seattle. The double miss with the Rock Slide changed the course of the match on who would win. So, in some ways, these tournaments are based on the matter of luck.

Personally, I really think that seniors won't be as difficult as it may seem. Usually you could get through the first 2-3 rounds without having a problem. Having that said, you only need another 2-3 rounds to get a ticket. You could also escape round 3, possibly round 4 and leaving you left with round 5. Beyond that point, your going to have to play the pros like you said earlier, Rukario, Human, and you could count yourself(Cybertron) in it. So, it may not be as hard as it seems, however, it may not be as easy at it seams either, which is depending on the players you face. Like you mentioned before, luck.

I would like you battle you cybertron before VGC 2011, a friendly battle if you accept. I would completely understand if not. Good luck at D.C. or Newark. Hopefully, you would at least make top 16.

I'd love to have a friendly battle! Let's take this conversation to VM's.

I go on PO, but not under my username because I don't like people seeing what teams I might use haha :P

(Oh! You live in Queens! Where do you live? Just wondering.)

Weird coincidence, I too go on Pokemon Online as a different name. DAMN we're sneaky O.o

I concur. Even if you get haxed, you should be able to pull out of it with a victory assuming your going against an average EV training player. Luck will definitely play a factor, hopefully in our favor.

yea the 1st 3 rds last year for me was full of easy players. i believe once you're in the finalist lounge thats were the real competition starts.

Hey everyone! I'll be at the VCG's this year. I made top 32 at the 2008 regionals in Manhattan. Life's been most hectic since. See you all there!

Where its at is better anyways, I have been there for other gaming events. My first year competing in the VGC's because finally I have friends who play to go with. I can't wait :)

Ah its that time of year again, flowers blooming, birds chirping, and me making another 3 hr trip to the armpit of america to play some pokemons. Looks like it should be some stiff competition in the masters division. If anyone has watched my youtube vid of my team, it has gone through some serious changes, which i should be posting in the next few days. RNG'n the roamers was a pain but i finally got what i was after. I will be wearing a 1up mushroom hat and should be taking some video footage, so if anyone wants to chat it up for the camera just track me down. good luck to everyone that is going and i hope to see you all there.

I'll definitely be attending! (masters!) last time I participated in the VGCs was in 09 in Philly. I was one round away from going to nationals, but vashthestampede (that's his username iirc) beat me! Can't wait to compete though c:

I was supposed to go to an event last year, but then I had some money troubles here and I didn't want to go alone, but some of my good friends play and I had no idea. Hopefully there will be 4 of us there, all the way from Connecticut :D

The father and son: Expert Evan & Shinkou shall be there, as we look forward to re-meet the ones we've seen in past years as well as others not yet met as well. Recap of past year meets:

1996 in Garden City Long Island: Silv (again in 1998 & 2000)
1998 in NYC: kindnugs, Bonta Kun, Blue Cookies, I remember seeing Ryuzaki whom probably doesn't remember me.

The list gets much larger in last 2 years. This year our goal is to make it further than we did last year so hopefully that happens so we don't end up leaving earlier like we did last year.
