Volcarona

I'm not sure where I saw this (or whether or not it's been posted. Pretty sure it hasn't). But it's a Rain abusing Volcarona!

Volcarona @ Life Orb
Nature: Timid
Ability: Flame Body
252 Sp. Atk / 252 Spe
Quiver Dance
Bug Buzz
Hurricane
Hp Water/Fighting

It foregoes Fire STAB entirely, and it's usual counters get beaten down either by your boosted HP Water (+1 LO Timid HP Water OHKO's Calm 244/44 Heatran) or the rest of your team, as well as I think almost perfect coverage.

Modest would probably better. I slashed in Fighting to get better coverage with Hurricane as Bug/Flying/Ground is walled by a lot more then Bug/Flying/Water (or Fighting).

Volcarona @ Leftovers
Nature: Modest
Ability: Flame Body
252 Sp. Atk / 252 HP
Quiver Dance
Bug Buzz
Substitute
Fiery Dance

Walled by few things as it can easily get to +6+6+6 with moderate team support and can't be killed behind sub.

Take care of threats before sending out.

Recommended (as usual) with a rapid spinner

I was the one who made that set, like two months ago. Never actually used it, just thought it was cool that its coverage was better in rain than sun.
if you've actually battled with this guy, I'd appreciate knowing if he's worth it or not!

Charizard, Moltres, and Articuno would like to have a word with you.

For Articuno, a defensive mon, that SR weakness is oh so much more important than on offensive mons. Same with Moltres. I don't want to dismiss Charizard with a "LOLCharizard" but... SR or no, he's just not very good.

Volcarona's an offensive mon and is simply incredibly, SR or no.

All three of those pokemon are rather medicore regardless. None of them really would work in OU without a SR weakness. Volca is brought down by its 4x SR weakness, but the access to QD, godly stats, and great coverage has more than mitigated it

@The rain abusing Volcarona, that has several problems. 1) It's main Water Weakness is only amplified, probably the most common weakness it will be hit with. 2) Apart from Toxicroak, it's useless against other Rain teams. And 3) with no recovery Volcarona with a Life Orb will easily fall to any priority attack. The most dangerous sets out there are the ChestoRest and Bulky+Morning Sun, because they can heal off the immediate SR damage taken, and their ability to set up multiple Quiver Dances utilizing their bulk.

I really just find there to be better options than that on a Rain team (I mean, c'mon...HP Water?) like DD Kingdra (A very underrated threat right now) which receives excellent 2 move coverage, STAB on it's water attack and only a single weakness. Even for a special sweeper, CM Jirachi does an incredible job if you've ever used on in the rain with Water Pulse. And even if you want a Speed booster in rain that abuses Hurricane, try mixed Dragonite (Or Agility Togekiss with Air Slash/Thunder/Water Pulse).

TL;DR, Rain Volcarona is like DD Latios, cool in theory but completely outclassed.

@ BrightBlinger, I have tried it out, it really just didn't pull through with sweeping =/ Offensive without Fire Blast just leaves alot to be desired and its also murdered against Sun and Sandstorm teams with an unreliable Hurricane and a pathetically weak HP Water.

I've tried it too, its not bad. Also, if you lose the weather war, that's your fault. Something I'm considering is Sub > Hurricane as Bug Buzz and HP water are usually my moves of choice since Hurricane's only real draw is the 30% confusion rate. Anyone want to tell me what Hurricane hits for good coverage that Bug Buzz and HP water don't?

Dragonite

I think that even on a rain team you should keep fiery dance as your third attacking move. After a QD fiery dance ohko's Ferrothorn and Scizor which otherwise can completely shut you down. The former is known to be a massive pain for rain teams in general. The chance to boost your SpA is also welcome. This set has obvious troubles with Dragonite\Salamence and Gyarados and that's one of the reasons why people prefer hurricane to hidden power when they use Volcarona on rain teams as it still ohko's Terrakion while hitting dragons for at least neutral damage with a 120 bp move.

I have been using a weird set lately that has proven to be very good so far.

The set is QD,Bug Buzz,Morning Sun,Sub with max Hp,enough speed to outrun 115s at +1 speed and the rest in defense with bold.

If you run this with T-Spikes support then you can beat even Toxic Blissey with good prediction.

Terakion is also beaten with minimal luck. All you need is one out of the 5 Stone Edges to miss while you sub first. When he misses you use Morning Sun and then he will soon be out of pp.
Scarf Tera is still a problem though.

Anyway i used this set to take advantage of both Rona's reliable recovery and the ability to block statuses.

Just make sure you have a good way to kill the opposing inducers.

faced someone with this; it is interesting but personally I like the morning sun qd volca with a lum berry. this set is walled by pretty much any bug resist, so you basically have to get to +6 to sweep. also, I gave up on rain volca, as subdd moxiedos is just so much better.
