Was Transformers 2 any good?

I want to go see it. The thing is, a bunch of people said it sucked, while a bunch of people said it was really good. Which is it?

Plot had a shit load of holes, and wasn't that great, but if your the guy that just wants to see shit transform and loves explosions, yes it was good.

The plot was pretty bad, but the action was definitely good enough. Then again, you don't really go to movies like Transformers expecting to have an intricate plot line; you watch it to watch robots beat the living shit out of eachother. I watched it and enjoyed myself; just don't go into the theater expecting anything super deep or anything like that; understand it is an action film, and you should enjoy it. If you saw the 1st one and enjoyed that, you should like this one, but not quite as much. If you didn't like the 1st one, then you'd definitely not enjoy this. And if you haven't seen the 1st one, be glad that there is almost no plot correlation between the 1st and 2nd movies.

If you were a Transformers fan before these movies came out you WILL be displeased. If not you probably won't.

I really enjoyed it.

That said, I felt there was a little too much comedy. So much so that I would personally classify the film as an 'action comedy' rather than the promised 'action' flick. It's not neccesarily a criticism but I'd rather the whole end of the galaxy thing was treated with a little more seriousness than jokes about robot scrotums and Skins and Mudflaps being idiots.

Highlight of the film is with a doubt Optimus Prime. His character didn't get too much attention in the first film so it was excellent to see some development.

It's the -exact- same plot. If I were to say...

'Decepticons are hunting a huge source of energy that will plunge the Earth into chaos and darkness. Autobots try to stop them by tracking down Sam who knows the location of said source.'

Would you be able to tell me whether I was talking about Transformers 1 or 2?

Not what I mean by plot correlation. I'm saying that you didn't need to see the 1st movie to understand the 2nd. There are about two moments in the movie where any knowledge of the 1st movie might have been helpful. I didn't see the 1st one, and I had no problem understanding what the heck was happening in this movie.

This was me. Even the action was sort of iffy, with Demolisher and Demolisher dying really fast. I was also really angry that they didn't really identify/give Soundwave any time. He was my favorite transformer! All in all, a pretty bad movie IMO.

I really enjoyed it.

Pretty much. When the robot scrotum joke came it, I was thinking, "I wanted to see transformers, not one of those '____ Movie' type movies (like Epic Movie, Hero Movie, etc.).

I actually really liked this movie to tell you the truth. Personally, I liked it more than the first one, although I actually would've like a little more explanation as to why the Autobots and Decepticons were even fighting each other. I actually didn't mind the plot that much, in fact I liked it, since I felt that they actually had a bit more character development (for the main characters). I also liked that this villain got a bit more development, unlike Megatron whom I felt was a bit underdeveloped in the first one (he just seemed like some robot who was the leader of the decepticons, and didn't get much development after that).

However, for a 2.5 hour movie, there are some definite plot holes that could've been fixed in that time. The final fight seemed like it went on forever, and took up a mighty chunk of the movie. If they took some of that time away to explain a few more things, it would have definitely been a better movie for everyone, and not just people who like action.

I agree with people in relation to the comedy. The first movie had much better comedy than this one, since it didn't seem so...'forced' in the first one. I mean, the second one was still funny, but some of the jokes were eye-rollers as well.

Bitching and moaning about the movie is kinda expected from a critic. Honestly I had a good time for what the movie was, an action flick. Had some decent laughs and had my jaws wide open when robots started going all out (spoiler : Optimus' fight against the 3 decepticons in the forest was AWESOME!).

Although I do feel the movie will be somewhat forgettable.

I didn't even like the first one, I found it to be a good example of the current mentality of special effects > everything else. I won't be seeing this sequel.

thanks for posting and telling us your opinion of what you thought of this movie dumbass.

For me, it was entertainging, but bad. There were so many forced jokes and unnecerary "humor".. robot testes, dogs humping, mom on weed, dogs humping again, robot humping megan fox, etc...

Action was good, movie was too long, had some decent laughs, and pretty bad plot... a perfect summer blockbuster.

The movie itself was terrifyingly bad. The acting was fairly mediocre, but this was at least tolerable in the first one. I feel that a film this lengthy (~2.5 hours) has to be able to hold a plot together really tightly. Unfortunately, this was often not the case. Additionally, the dialogue was terribly hackneyed. After a while, hearing "let's roll", "eat this, bitch" and actually prompted some groans in the theater. The action scenes were entertaining but often difficult to understand. For a while, I thought that the giant sand-suckin' robot was good because it was brightly colored and whatnot. It's going to make tons of money, though.

If you are going into this movie expecting a "film" in the sense of a cultural experience, I think you had disappointment coming to you. I just wanna see shit blow up so I think I still want to go. The problem is finding someone to go with me. My friends have either seen it or don't want to see it =/

Yeah, it was pretty bad imo. Basically what everyone else said: forced humor, bad plot, action scenes sometimes a bit hard to understand etc. One other thing I don't think anyone seemed to mention was how all the characters seemed too comfortable; they really pushed the small introductory personalities they had before into huge fake ones.

I thought it was a decent movie, but I agree with a lot of other posters here that there was some unnecessary comedy and jokes throughout the movie.

too much shit going on all the time, i mean you tell me, how do you get bored of seeing robots fighting like half way through the movie like me???

I though it was a great movie, Its that it was overated. The plot was confusing and the movie went too long, but the awesome action scenes made up for it and the jokes werent bad. I'd recommend you see it.

so many unnecessary parts they should have left out. it's like they made the movie longer for the hell of it

this might have been the worst movie i've ever seen.

two and a half hours turns a shitty movie into a shitty and essentially dishonest movie. they're basically saying 'hi we are going to pretend you are here to see something more than robots fucking each other up, heres way too much fucking plot'.

the story was beyond ridiculous, the acting terrible, and the attempted comedy (HUR HUR HIS MOM IS STONED) even worse. and not only do we have a token black soldier, but we have two token black robots, one with a gold fucking tooth. i usually don't cry 'racism' but when the obviously black robot stutters 'i dont read much' i couldnt help but wonder why the fuck these stereotypes are being perpetuated so blatantly.

this is the reason i liked the film shoot em up so much. it is such an exciting movie because of how honest it is; it realizes what you want and gives it to you. it does away with plot and other extraneous bullshit and you get to watch clive owen shoot stuff.

anyways, movie is an absolute piece of shit. not enough robot fighting, too much pretending that anyone gives a fuck what shia labeouf is doing. this movie might have given me AIDS.

Thank you Glen. You took the words directly from my mouth.

If I hadn't gone with my girlfriend, I would have really wanted that 2 and a bit hours of my life back.

I want to go see it. The thing is, a bunch of people said it sucked, while a bunch of people said it was really good. Which is it?
Lol, this is the thread pretty much.
But really you have to judge the integrity of the users who say it's good when such things are said

IT was awesome. It was hella awesome!!!! Need i say more??

As all the people who have said it was not worth seeing have had some pretty valid points.

The only reason to see it is megan fox, and the cool special effects.

If you like movies with good plots and acting this one is not for you.

At least thats my personal review.

If it matters, I would like to post my opinion:

I am the type of person who watched this movie just for the action. I don't really care that much about how elaborate the plot is, so I saw it twice. However, the movie has its positive and negative sides:

Positives:
-Robot fighting. SPOILERS: The scene where Optimus fights the 3 Decepticons in the forest is awesome, especially the part where he rips the helicopter one's face in half to kill it. The part where Optimus combines with Jetfire and takes on Megatron and The Fallen single-handedly was great too (if only Optimus did not disintegrate in the end).

-They had pretty big robots. I personally like seeing Transformers transform. SPOILERS: I thought the big guy at the beginning (the one without legs but moves with one wheel, dunno his name) is cool, but he does not get enough screen-time, which was a big disappointment. The big Megazord-like thing that sucks up all the sand is cool as well.

Negatives:

-The movie was too long. 2.5 hours is really long for a movie, at least in my opinion. Also, there is a huge gap of time between the two big fight scenes (they are mentioned in the positives section).

-There were a bunch of unnecessary humour. Some of them were mentioned: SPOILERS: dog humping, robot testes, robot humping Megan Fox's leg, Sam's mom high on eating marijuana, etc. I too thought they were unnecessary and I think it would have saved some time if they were taken out...

Yeah, if you like action, and action only, this is the movie for you. If you're going for plot quality and humour, I would not recommend it.
