Sticky X/Y Sprite Project

Celever Just to put it out there, I did read the thread a few times and legender's post was the only one I saw regarding the sprite but if I skipped over it guess I should apologize.

Anyway, thanks for clearing that up. I noticed whats wrong with the tail but can you be a little more specific with the choppiness? I dont think I can do much about it besides speed up the animation a bit since on each frame almost everything moves 1 pixel at a time. (maybe its because some parts dont move while others do?) If you mean the body right before the roar, its meant to be like that since his head is rising faster than his body. same with the mouth since since its suppose to close slowly. To answer your question, for the whole animation, im using about 60 frames.

I checked how it looked with only 3 normal animations at first but to me t looked like he roars way too often so I added an extra one. Did the same with goomy if you didnt notice it on him. But I can post a version of him with just 3 animations after I fix it if you want.

Well just watch it carefully, no animations move as slowly as that. Tyrantrum looks quite similar to Groudon, so let's look at Groudon's sprite:
383.gif

Do you see how fluidly he moves? I guess this is the back sprite, so:
383.gif

Can you see how when his tail lifts up his whole body lifts up like he's trying to have it? I understand that Tyrantrum's sprite already has it pointing up to a precarious position but it's just things like that which make the sprite look much more fluid. Furthermore, the sprite has a number of frame skips throughout the animation, particularly when the tail moves in the main animation (the one that happens 4 times) it skips on 3 separate occasions just moving it down once, and then 6 coming back up. If you watch Groudon's sprite carefully you'll notice that the only frame skips are very minor and they are quite rare, but that is understandable for a gargantuan Pokemon such as Groudon. If we look at a smaller Pokemon's back sprite who has a tail:
052.gif

So here we have a Meowth, with no frame skips even on the huge jump. The tail moves up and down continuously and quite quickly too. Now I'm not saying you have to make Tyrantrum's tail as fast as this but if you combine the fluidity of Meowth with the speed of Groudon's (maybe sped up a little bit) then it should look pretty good.

Now onto the rare animation I feel like you should go with something a little bit more like Groudon, where it just changes the mouth and tail. As it is now he's lifting his head backwards which makes it seem awfully... uhh... painful? I don't know it doesn't look like he should bend that way. Forgive me if the front sprite does this but the sheet doesn't have one animated so it interests me that you would do the back sprite first but Ok. Anyway, just try and take this advice and we'll see how it turns out.

Gotta say getting tyrantrum as smooth as that groudon is going to be tough but I'll give it a shot. you really think it looks painful though? It does do that in the front sprite. For some reason it wasnt put on the chart yet but it no biggie. I'll post it again.
tyrantrum-full.gif

Tried to make the back as accurate to the front as possible. Anyway, when I get the chance, I'll try making it smoother. Dont know if I can get it groudon smooth but I'll try getting as close as possible to it.

Ok I have the issue here, it's actually the way that your tail moves in the back sprite that makes it looks painful, since it seems rather unnatural for a Pokemon's tail and head to be able to go into the same place or that close to eachother with the head bending backwards, if you sort out the tail to stop it squishing it should work that out too ito.

ok then I'll fix up the tail instead. I'll try not letting the tail get as close to the head and see how that works out.

Edit: Actually, its original sprite that I started with had its tail up that high already so instead of moving the tail, maybe I'll lessen the head's backward movement.

Here's a Heliolisk since I didn't see one yet. Might need some work though.

EDIT: I tinkered with his eyes a bit.

And if anyone sees my sprite lacking but a good base, I'mma hand you some flats.

Hey guys I understand that a Chespin sprite is already made but I really wanted to share my version (somewhat animated sooo) but if it's not used I'm not complaining. It's completely OK, right?

Personally, I think that sprite looks fantastic (shading could do with a little work though) however if you look at the chart https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...TS1UUUgzU19ITllWM0V4MXFpalE&usp=sharing#gid=0 you would see that a heliolisk sprite has been done already.

This goes for everyone again please look at the spreadsheet:

Just saying, chespin has a brown spot on the back of his head. I have one in game.

Looking at the spreadsheet is nice and all, but in Heliolisk's case, the sprite has yet to reach the standards for quality denoted by Wyverii and Layell, so reworking the sprite to be higher quality would be acceptable as far as I am aware.

On a related note, I have a WIP for the Clawitzer that I called two weeks back only to get sniped by Quanyails (no hard feelings, bro, I was taking forever and I realize that). Figured I'd drop this here to show my progress since I'll probably be capping it off later tonight when I get back home.

Gallade is shown next to Clawitzer for size comparison. Technically Gallade should be about a foot taller than Clawitzer, but since the main howitzer claw is angled in this pose, I figured it'd round out to be about even. And this is based off of an ingame picture I took from my own X version, so the proportions should be spot-on. Any critiques on the lineart or color palette would be awesome. (Current colors ripped from Shiny Gardevoir, Lanturn and Pikachu)

I'm aware that there's already a sprite for Delphox, however it needs an animation. I started my own Delphox sprite a couple days ago, and I'd love to hear any criticism.

Still sprite -

Animated sprite -

The animation is definitely still a work in progress. I was thinking of adding more frames for fluidity, and adding a little "special" part of the animation with Delphox pulling its wand out of the sleeve. It'll be a while, seeing as to how I have no work ethic, but if my completing this is of any interest, let me know. '-'

Just a quick question on the Mega Gyarados backsprite.
Are you guys looking for something like this

Or something more along the lines of this

I don't know about Layell, but I like this sprite. It's very similar to how it looks in XY while remaining in the style of BW. Good job!

Hey everyone! I haven't posted here in a while due to school / computer problems. However, I'm just here to say that I am still working on the backsprite for Mega Gengar and animating Noivern (although that is now an issue due to my home computer not having anything to do animation). Mega Gengar's backsprite should be up soon (although it needs a lot of editing - I think the original spriter is great, but goddamn is it hard to copy his art-style. I might need to contact him for some help lol).

Also, for those who don't know, my laptop died on me. Luckily, I didn't lose much, but this does set me back on the Noivern Sprite. Hopefully it'll be fully animated soon (I also need to fix the static sprite - I'm going to use it as one of the frames instead)

EDIT: Mega Gengar is here (very rough draft)

I edited the front sprite to show more of the back spikes. The spikes need editing, as does the "shading", but I think this is ok as a place holder.

Could you show a picture or tell where it is placed (like in the center, how big etc.)? Because all the images I've seen (even the current Chespin sprite in the doc) don't show any spot so I'm rather confused.

Edit: I Actually Did It :D

I finally got a hold of sources for Pumpkaboo and Mega Gardevoir to make more accurate backs for them. Along with that, I also made needed changes to the sprites after seeing their 3D models at different perspectives. Still, I might make some more edits in the future, as always...

And now, behold.

Finally finished up Clawitzer. For anyone who missed my first post, I felt that the proportions were off, so I made a new one. I might edit it later since I feel Lanturn's colors are a bit bright for its claws, but this should suffice for the time being. Constructive criticisms are welcome as always.

I'll get to the back sprite later this week and I'll work on Mega Banette's once I get a clear view of it's back in my personal copy of X.

EDIT: Also just noticed some white pixels around Mega Banette's sprite, so I cleaned it up.

EDIT2: Ok so Clawitzer is going to be a bit of a pain to make a backsprite for due to its depth so this might take awhile.
