You are a type specialist in a hostile region. How do you best represent your chosen element?

The concept that came to mind was how Lance and Dragonite have been used in NPC teams to embody the classic fire/ice/lighting element set. I liked the idea of attempting to tie a type that currently doesn't have much of an identity besides 'powerful' to other types central to the experience. However, I also thought it was important to highlight less conventional elements as well, showcasing what sets pokemon apart from other jrpgs as well as what connects them. I chose to go with Poison/Psychic/Fighting as my oddball set.

:rb/dragonite:
Dragonite
- Fire Blast
- Blizzard
- Thunder
- Toxic
Outside of the attacks for the standard elements, I needed to pick which was to be most prominent of the other types. I went with Poison.

:rb/jolteon:
Jolteon
- Pin Missile
- Thunderbolt
- Double Kick
- Thunder Wave
The Electric type from the traditional set. Since the concept is partially the identity of Pokemon as a whole, I also wanted to include something with a strong evolution focus.

:rb/arcanine:
Arcanine
- Rest
- Body Slam
- Substitute
- Flamethrower
A majestic, "Legendary" fire-type that would later pick up Extreme Speed, a move associated with Dragonite because of the events in Johto.

:rb/starmie:
Starmie
- Ice Beam
- Psychic
- Recover
- Hydro Pump
The transition point between the two trios, as both Water and Psychic. I originally had Slowbro here as something slightly more capable of resembling a dragon, but I had both a Fire Stone evo and a Thunder Stone evo so might as well have an extra mechanical connection for that set.

:rb/arbok:
Arbok
- Glare
- Wrap
- Toxic
- Earthquake
Of the many Poison-types available (hey, half the concept is that Poison is a core part of the games' identity), I went with the most reptilian one.

:rb/machamp:
Machamp
- Seismic Toss
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Counter
Similar to wanting a mon strongly tied to evolution as a whole for Jolteon, a team representing what the games are about probably isn't complete without a trade evolution. I also wanted to include Seismic Toss or Night Shade somewhere since Dragon's only move at the time is also a fixed-damage attack.

So I'm going both simple but abstract with my Dragon RBY Kanto team. A special thing to remember about Gen I is that it had 5 stats, not 6: HP, Attack, Defense, Speed, & Special (which was used to determine both damage with Special Moves and defense against them; in Gen II it would be split into Special Attack & Special Defense). Why is this important to note? Well, it's for the theme of my team:

What Are Dragon's Made Of?
:rb/dragonite::rb/snorlax::rb/rhydon::rb/onix::rb/aerodactyl::rb/flareon:
  • Dragonite is obviously the base for this team as it's the Dragon-type of Gen I. Moveset: Hyper Beam, Dragon Rage, Flamethrower, Ice Beam.

  • Snorlax represents the mouth/fangs of dragons. I know what you're thinking: Snorlax's mouth isn't anything like a dragon's. Snorlax may not be Dragon-like, but I feel it's appetite befits a dragon: Snorlax eats a lot and can eat pretty much anything. You need to eat to survive, which makes me think of the HP stat, and Snorlax is a fanged Pokemon with the highest HP in Gen I. Moveset: Hyper Beam, Earthquake, Toxic, Rest.

  • Rhydon represents the limbs/claws of dragons. Again, I know what you're thinking: The part of Rhydon you're looking at is its limbs and not its unique drill horn? Rhydon's drill horn is an important part of its design and likely why it has a high Attack stat (infact the second highest Attack stat of clawed Gen I Pokemon, behind Dragonite who I can't pick for obvious reasons). However, let's not overlook that it also still learns many Moves which more require its limbs/claws such as stomping & slashing. Strong limbs & claws like that are worthy of a dragon. Moveset: Earthquake, Rock Slide, Hyper Beam, Horn Drill.

  • Onix represents the tail of dragons. I chose Onix because it's the tailed Pokemon with the highest Defense in Gen I. Why did I pick the Defense stat for the tail? A dragon's back is pretty vulnerable, at best some dragons have spikes going down their spine but otherwise there's no mouth or claws to worry about. A dragon's tail is it's only defense of its back, so it needs to be strong to protect it. In addition what is a tail but a further extension of the spine, so a strong tail in theory also means a strong spine. Moveset: Toxic, Screech, Fissure, Explosion.

  • Aerodactyl represents the wings of dragons. Dragons are at their fastest (and arguably most maneuverable) when flying, so I chose the winged Pokemon with the highest Speed stat in Gen I. Being Aerodactyl is a popular choice of "pseudo-dragon" and is on Lance's team, I don't feel anything else needs to be said. Moveset: Sky Attack, Hyper Beam, Dragon Rage, Reflect.

  • Flareon represents the flames of dragons. If I asked you what non-Legendary Fire-type Pokemon had the highest Special stat in Gen I, what would you think? Charizard? Arcanine? Ninetales? Maybe Magmar? NOPE! Shockingly, it's Flareon! Not that Flareon is a bad representative, not at all, when I look at Flareon I think "yeah, that's a fire elemental" and its Dex entry backs this up. Of all Fire-types, I'd say Flareon looks like the one made of fire (at least as far as Gen I sprites are concerned). Moveset: Flamethrower, Hyper Beam, Quick Attack, Sand-Attack.

EDIT: ... AND looks like Cobalt Empoleon had a similar ideas as me :psynervous:. Though we went completely two different ways so I'm still posting my team.

We've Torterreturned

I was cooking for a while for this team. It's my second attempt after spending half an hour with the previous one.

The theme of the team is Dragon Tamers with their dragons. I've paired humanoid Pokemon with draconic Pokemon that relate in some way with them.

:y/Jynx:
-Blizzard
-Psychic
-Bubble Beam
-Lovely Kiss

:y/Lapras:
-Hydro Pump
-Ice Beam
-Confuse Ray
-Dragon Rage

"The Frozen Sorceress of Beauty"

Jynx doesn't have any draconic connections, but is based magical folkloric women, while Lapras is draconic enough to be used by Lance in Stadium and by Dragon Tamers in the Battle Frontiers.

:y/Hitmonlee:
-Hi Jump Kick
-Mega Kick
-Counter
-Meditate

:y/Aerodactyl:
-Sky Attack
-Hyper Beam
-Fire Blast
-Dragon Rage

"The Vicious Godspeed Striker"

Dragons end up being associated with Eastern martial arts, and while it's an English only thing, Hitmonlee is named after Bruce Lee, and one of his most famous movies is...

:y/Chansey:
-Body Slam
-Seismic Toss
-Psychic
-Soft Boiled

:y/Dragonite:
-Dragon Rage
-Fly
-Hyper Beam

"The Noble Unconquerable Paladin"

Chansey bears a resemblance to Axolotls, specifically leucitic ones, which are compared to dragons.

1696600103385.png

Dragon parts are sometimes considered potent medicine, like with Gabite scales in some dex entries, so Chansey eggs can be seen as a reference to that. Dragonite also ended up being associated with Normal types thanks to the existence of Tera Normal Extreme Speed Dragonite in S/V.

Once I switched over to the "Dragon Tamer and their Dragon" theme, I got plenty of pairs that went unused.

The only two Pokemon that aren't part of the pairs that was considered are Lickitung and Onix, but I used their evolutions in my HGSS Dragon team, so they already did their job.

Damn, the dragon tamer theme was stolen. In theory I could use the snake theme, but not enough Mons for it. So, I will be a dragon breeder and team will have the dragon egg group theme, there are exactly 5 Dragon lines in Kanto that have said Egg group and with Dragonair as decent Mon, we can add a 6th one:

:dragonite: Moves: Body Slam, Horn Drill, Wrap, Thunderbolt. Lead Mon instead of ace this time, since almost everyone will have it as ace. Paralyzes, wraps and sometimes OHKOs with Horn Drill.
:arbok: Moves: Glare, Rock Slide, Mega Drain, Fissure. Also paralyzes and sometimes OHKOs.
:gyarados: Moves: Hydro Pump, Thunder, Fire Blast, Blizzard, Double Edge. Hard hitting Mon that can also paralyze with Thunder (although it has just 10%).
:dragonair: Moves: Thunder Wave, Dragon Rage, Mimic, Surf. This Mon and the next one aren,t meant to kill things, they want to cripple the opponent so that the ace Mon can have free turns to set-up. Dragonair paralyzes and does some damage before dying.
:seadra: Moves: Leer, Smokescreen, Bubblebeam, Ice Beam. Seadra is the only Mon that can,t paralyze, but it has Smokescreen in exchange, so before dying the opponent will become blind.
:charizard: Moves: Sword Dance, Earthquake, Hyper Beam, Flamethrower. He finally is the ace of a draconic theme team. Using the paralisis and Accuracy drops from previous 2 NFEs, Charizard boosts with Sword Dance and cleans.

It was only a matter of time... and it's RBY so there's only one Dragon move. Ouch. Let's see who learns Dragon Rage.

:Charizard::Arcanine::Gyarados::Lapras::Aerodactyl::Dragonite:

Honestly, that looks good enough to use. Maybe Dragonair over Arcanine would be better. *checks other teams* Someone already made that team... As if I wasn't already sure I wasn't scoring high on creativity this round... That's okay! I just want to see how just using the fully evolved Dragon Rage users does in the poll. :D

While I'm looking at movepools, let's see what FRLG would give for fun. I'm sure it's better because there's a few more Dragon moves and Dragon Claw is a pretty good TM that I'm sure lots of Pokemon can learn and... Huh... It's actually worse. Dragon Claw is only learned by Charizard, Aerodactyl, and Dragonite. Dragon Dance adds Seadra and Gyarados. The sixth would either be Onix because it gained Dragonbreath in FRLG or Dragonair because it's way better than Onix. I wouldn't consider Egg moves because, not only does no one used them in FRLG use them, but breeding isn't even possible until the Sevii Isles post game. Egg Moves would bring back Lapras with Dragon Dance though.

I usually prefer moves with high accuracy and small drawbacks, but this is Gen 1 Dragons! Got to go with the most powerful and awesome moves for the most powerful and awesome type!

:Gyarados:
Gyarados
-Dragon Rage
-Hydro Pump
-Hyper Beam
-Fire Blast

Dragon Rage has to be the first move for everyone when the entire point of the team is that it's every Pokemon that learns Dragon Rage.

To take advantage of Gyarados's higher Attack stat, I gave it an Attack of every Physical type it can learn. Turns out, the list of those types is only Normal. Good thing Gyarados's Special Stat is 100 before getting split into 60 Special Attack and 100 Special Defense! I could have used Blizzard or Thunder, but I went with a lack of move varaity. Dragons are known for breathing fire, fire is awesome, and no one expect a Waters types to use Fire moves. If I did resest the temptation of Fire Blast, I would have used Thunder instead for move variety.

:Arcanine:
Arcanine
-Dragon Rage
-Fire Blast
-Hyper Beam
-Double Team

Arcanine's covorage options in Gen 1 don't exsist yet. It does learn the 100 Power Dig, which would be amazing, but I'm not using it because there's a glitch that makes you stay underground until you use Dig again if you hit yourself in confusion or become fully paralyzed in the middle of Dig. I have to use a status move instead and, and as much as I hate to say it, most status moves in Gen 1 don't work well. They're either pretty bad, like Toxic changing to normal poison when you switch and normal posion only draining 1/16 HP per turn, or something I don't think the AI even knows how to use, like Substitute or Mimic. Setup moves are the exception and the one setup move everyone gets is Double Team. With Double Team, you get to share in the joy of your attacks missing too! :P

:Aerodactyl:
Aerodactyl
-Dragon Rage
-Rock Slide
-Sky Attack
-Hyper Beam

Rock Slide gives is illegal move (or at least illegal until Gen 3) and you can't have a Lance like team without an illegal move. Bonus points for being the same illegal move his Aerodactyl has in GSC! :P It was pretty easy to pick the (legal) STAB attack. Wing Attack's 35 Power isn't worth considering even if it's the only option, Fly has the same glitch as Dig, and Sky Attack has 140 Power. Hyper Beam was the best last move because the only other covorage would be Fire Blast off of a Base 60 Special.

:Lapras:
Lapras
-Dragon Rage
-Blizzard
-Hydro Pump
-Hyper Beam

There's not much to explain when I've already said why I'm using Dragon Rage on everyone and why I'm using everyone. Having two powerful, inaccurate, awesome STABs take up two more moveslots just gives less to talk about. I was going to use Psychic or Thunder for the last move, but everyone else ended up knowing Hyper Beam. I figured, screw it, let everyone know the awesome move. I wasn't even trying to have everyone know Hyper Beam. It really was just a mix of coincidence and "because Lance!"

:Dragonite:
Dragonite
-Dragon Rage
-Hyper Beam
-Fire Blast
-Horn Drill

We're ripping of Lance. Tht means Dragonite needs to know Hyper Beam. Fire Blast is because of Dragons breathing fire. And for the last move, you know what's even more awesome than Hyper Beam's 150 Power? OHKO Power.

:Charizard:
Chariazard
-Dragon Rage
-Fire Blast
-Earthquake
-Hyper Beam

Charizard is the last Pokemon instead of Dragonite because Charizard is an even cooler Dragon! Earthquake looks and sounds devistating. I considered Submission for the sake of covorage other than Hyper Beam, but if I'm making a Lance like team, the last and most powerful Pokemon should know Hyper Beam. I considered Seismic Toss for the Fighting last attack instead because of Ash's Charizard, but decided against it for the sake of not having a move that outclasses Dragon Rage.

:Gyarados::Arcanine::Aerodactyl::Lapras::Dragonite::Charizard:

I usually put way more effort into the movesets than creativity. This time you can tell that without even looking at the movesets.

Well-deserved Eeveeto, I agreed with every mon you included(including Gengar, which I'd tried to justify and couldn't).

Kanto Dragon.png

Around here, we got Kaiju and Kaiju accessories. Every mon has the "Biped with tail" body shape, which is both what Dragonite has and in Pokemon indicates the "Climb out of the ocean and smash stuff" mons. Beyond that, they're all(except Slowbro) fairly rare mons, with a Safari Zone capture, Moon Stone evo, a starter, and a trade evo ghost. Charizard is of course a dragon, and Nidoking and Kanga fit that same "destructive rampaging beast" mold. And Gengar is mythical and dangerous in a way that's perfectly aligned with Dragon in general.

Our character this time is a rando low-class dude in the wilderness(Japan must have an equivalent to the redneck in their culture, right?) Rando out in a house in the middle of nowhere, and he's just found all of these stupidly powerful and rare mons. "I was fishin' for magikarp for my supper and I pulled up this snake thing instead. Well, I had this Kanga my gramamma left me, so I fired off a couple o' hyper beams and captured it. He ate most of my fish, too, but grew up nice and big. Real help around the place. You say he's rare? I'd agree, you don't get friends like this boy often." Just has no clue and doesn't care about the rarity/power, they're just good mons to him.

No moveset this week, RBY doesn't excite me. Assume they're mostly 4 attacks with ridiculous coverage, because there's no need to be creative. Kanga and DNite get Hyper Beam for their final moves, everyone else gets something else stupid(Explosion on Gengar, OHKO moves on the rest).

I came very close to using Lapras over Slowbro(for rarity and Loch Ness Monster vibes), but decided to keep the body shapes consistent instead. I strongly considered using pure Safari Zone mons, but wasn't feeling the options there. Dragonaire was of course on and off my team regularly throughout. And I was adamant against more than 1 non-DNite flyer, which made things much harder.

a day off means i can participate again woo!!

:rb/exeggutor::rb/arcanine::rb/electabuzz::rb/lapras::rb/rhydon::rb/dragonite:

So, Dragon in Kanto famously kind of doesn't exist - it has one Pokémon line and no actual damaging moves. What I feel the original idea with the typing could be, considering its resistances and the Dragonite family's large movepool even at the time, is that it can represent this primal, dynamical elemental energy. What my team tries to bring out is exactly that - the basic Pokémon typings to their purest and strongest.

:exeggutor:
- Sleep Powder
- Solar Beam
- Psychic
- Leech Seed

Our lead represents Grass, and I would have picked it even if it didn't have a Dragon-type connection many gens later. It just gives the most feral vibe of the Grass-types this gen, and it also has great stats to exploit its kit, and of course a Gen I team needs a Psychic-type. Egg distributes sleeps and seeds, and its Solar Beam is the strongest Grass-type move in RBY.

:arcanine:
- Fire Blast
- Body Slam
- Reflect
- Dig

(As an in-game team, I am allowed to use Dig, right?)
Arcanine remains the gold standard of BST even nine generations later, and therefore embodies well the kind of energy I want to go for this team. All of its stats are good and this set can do a bit of everything - walling, mixed attacking, spreading status. Big dog puts in the work.

:electabuzz:
- Thunderbolt
- Thunder Wave
- Psychic
- Counter

The thing with Electric-types is that none of them really are as fit to be a pure unfilitered representation of the element as the options of other types are. Raichu and Jolteon feel too cute for the theme, I just don't like Electrode at all, and... those are the three that stayed fully evolved until now. Electabuzz is pretty good in RBY, though, being fast, having utility and Psychic as coverage (remember when Psychic counted as coverage?), so I picked it over Magneton because in-game it would be a very strong team member, but thematically it does feel like the weak link. There had to be an Electric-type, though.

:lapras:
- Surf
- Blizzard
- Thunderbolt
- Sing

It's not just that it is pretty draconic looking, or that it provides me a nice alternative to the easy Gyarados and Seadra picks for this theme. It also has literally embodied water in the Pokémon games for so long, being the mascot of surfing through generations. You think Water in Pokémon, Lapras immediately is one of the first associations. Once I picked this team there was really no doubt which mon would represent Water, and it helps that Lapras is very good here, sporting incredible coverage, a sleep move, and the then-overpowered Blizzard.

:rhydon:
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Body Slam
- Rest

Bonus element! Rhydon fits in so well in terms of appearance and being a very good and strong embodiment of Ground, which as earth is a classic element, that I decided to include it despite the type having no connection with Dragon in the type table. It still fits well with the theme and it also adds some sorely needed physical hitting and taking capabilities to the team.

:dragonite:
- Agility
- Blizzard
- Hyper Beam
- Fire Blast

Here we go, the main character. Has there even been another Pokémon in any generation that is unable to deal STAB damage? And a Pokémon as noteworthy as Dragonite of all of them! It still has a lot of RBY tricks up its sleeve such as Agility for sweeping, the kill buttons that are Gen I Blizzard and Hyper Beam, and a second Fire Blast on the team over the usual choice of Thunderbolt. As long as it can avoid. opposing Blizzards, it's gonna wreak havoc.

Wowee. To call this round interesting feels like an understatement. I half-expected Gen I's limited options to make it feel difficult, but as usual we had some great, unconventional ideas and surprise picks that went to unusual conceptual places. Did they all work? You decide...

A couple of things nearly made the most common wildcard option before Aerodactyl won out, while the usual suspects - Charizard, Lapras, Rhydon, Arcanine, Arbok - bring up the rear. I liked a lot of the lesser-used options, though. One of my thoughts was that you could actually do a sort of literal "Dragon Tamer" concept where your other team members are there specifically to corral and counter Dragons - so lots of Ice-types, and perhaps also trapping/disabling Pokemon like Vileplume or Victreebel. I never do my own teams for these but if I had (and as this is the last one of these for a while, why not?) my concept would probably have been, in the spirit of Lance being a dirty rotten cheater, based around Gen II tradeback moves - all of my team would have had at least one move from the future to frustrate and outfox those poor RBY simpletons with their limited movesets.

Surprised not to see more (or at all):

Seadra. This is always my go-to for "dragon associations". Dragon is in the name! But then the association with Dragon is so much less apparent in Gen I. Unlike a lot of Gen II's evolutions, which often felt like they were filling in a gap or a prompt left by Gen I, Seadra's Dragon associations only really become apparent in Gen II... which is when it evolves anyway. If Gyarados wasn't the obvious go-to for a Water-type on a Dragon team Seadra might feel more like a go-to, though.

Dragonair. Usually NFEs are hit-or-miss. But it's literally your only other choice and Dragonair's pretty decent.

Honestly, Dratini. Why not? Perhaps I'm influenced by the fact that a friend of mine was raising a Dratini he refused to evolve; we Mystery Gift'd on GSC a couple of times and so every time I went to Trainer House I'd fight his team of impressive species like Scizor and Alakazam... with a level 40 Dratini as the lead. Iconic. But actually somewhat effective!

Tangents aside, Dratini actually has the potential to be a somewhat interesting lead. Incapacitate stuff with Wrap, paralyse them with Thunder Wave. Several foes in Gen I use all three members of an evolutionary line - Sabrina's Abra-Kadabra-Alakazam team in Yellow made quite the impression.

Venusaur and Blastoise. We had these in the HGSS dragon round and both are reptilian so I was surprised not to have either make an appearance.

Kabutops and Omastar. Both feel vaguely relevant - one could certainly do an "ancient" theme to justify their inclusion.

Nidoqueen. Wasn't surprised by Nidoking making an appearance, but his poor old counterpart got left out!

Sad to hear this is going on hiatus, but hopefully it's temporary. This has been great fun. Thanks for putting the time in to run this, I know these things can be a timesink.

Mostly what was expected. Gyarados/Charizard/Aerodactyl are basically the go-to Gen 1 Dragons. If it weren't for type overlap, I think those would have been basically mandatory(and arguably were even so. I did expect to see Seadra and Exeggutor more often because of future Dragon types, but I'm not hugely surprised they weren't. I was also expecting to see at least one Dragon Egg Group-based team. Otherwise, yeah, there's a lot of wildcards, but a lot of them fit. RBY Dragon's a good one to end on IMO, it gave everyone a lot of space to play with.

Taking a look back at Akala Island Ice:

Eeveeto (39 pts; winner) & Hugin (36 pts): The top two went with trying to stick with a Cold-based team, admirable as Akala Island does not provide many options. Eeveeto may have gotten the slight edge by including a Mega Gengar, focusing on Doubles, and a surprise twist of using Normalium-Z to power a Normal Status Move. Hugin I would say probably plays the role more straight, not bothering having a Mega and using Icium-Z.

Ironmage (34 pts): As my post said, Ironmage essentially did what I was thinking on doing. Sticking with "the ocean is cold" which quite a few of us relied on, Ironmage leaned into it more and almost got an entire Ice team. Not saying Cradily not having an Ice-type move was an issue, it matches the theme and likely helped got you third as I think Eeveeto and Hugin would have gotten first & second eitherway.

Cobalt Empoleon (29 pts): An interesting twist of having the trainer be from another island. Kudos on getting a Fire-type on the team which knows an Ice-type Move, pretty unique idea. Still, even with them all learning an Ice-type Move it does feel there isn't much connecting them on a visually level which I've noticed swings votes around.

SturdyShedinja (27 pts): I think your team was just too little too late, sharing DNA with Eeveeto's, Hugin's and Ironmage's.

Me (24 pts): Yeah, with my main three ideas snatched I sort of gave up and I guess the polls reflect that. Guess ending an Ice team with Sandstorm was kind of awkward (even if it also knew Ice Fang Punch).

So QuentinQuonce, when this thread goes on hiatus do you want no one posting in it until you return? Anyway, wish you luck on what you need to get done IRL.

Results are in - and our final winner, by a clear margin, is Pikachu315111! Congrats on your second win.

Eh, I can't exactly stop people posting but as long as people aren't taking it over and running their own polls there's not really an issue. Discussion is always welcome. Once the thread's back up and running I'll DM you to decide the next topic.

Thanks. Glad to know people have enjoyed it. It hopefully won't be gone for too long, I've just quite snowed under with stuff atm and need fewer things to think about.

Y'all really liked me basing an Ice team around actively volcanic areas significantly better than trying to follow through on Dragon's early concept, huh?

Meh, I figured my associations were niche enough I'd get a last place sometime, and there's a good amount of sense behind it happening with my least favourite type. If anything, I should be taking "not fitting with Dragon" as a compliment.

Since we're going on hiatus I'll do RBY Dragon now:
Me (31 pts): Apparently the secret to me winning is making a team revolving around Dragonite. I won HGSS Dragon with a team based on Journey to the West which was one finest teams I made. So I was very tempted to do another legendary tale theme. But I felt repeating an idea would come off cheap so went with the idea used. I felt pretty satisfied with most of my choices, even if I felt a few were stretches, though Onix gave me pause. In another thread we made fun of Bruno having two Onix on his team even though he's an Elite Four member... and here I was adding Onix to my team. Onix is too weak to be doing anything offensive, so being it has decent Speed (for Gen I) I more focused on making it a support staller; gimmicky but I think it works.

Cobalt Empoleon (23 pts): I may have won with my team but I think Cobalt Empoleon won with his "illusion of choice" comment, lol. They also had a similar idea as me, though while I focused on stats, they focused on the actual physical design of Dragonite. Them also having both a Ditto and Dragonite on the same team reminded me of the Orange Island Champion Drake which was one of the best battles in the anime (too bad it was a filler saga... thinking about it would have been more appropriate for him to be in Masters Eight Tournament than Alain).

Hugin & Eeveeto (18 pts each): And Eeveeto takes the title of "Most Dragon Team" using the Dragon Egg Group as a guide, which if you're not copying Lance is probably the best way to do it (even if that's technically future knowledge but hindsight 20/20). Hugin channeled their inner PokeManiac and did a Kaiju team. Gengar feels out of left field (surprised you didn't have Rhydon), but the speed and power it provides is no less appreciated.

Axiemeister (16 pts): A theme I didn't think of though was done by two people: Elemental. Axiemeister more focused in on a mixture of common element groupings: Pokemon Starter Types (Grass/Fire/Water & sometimes Electric), Classical Elements (Fire/Air/Earth/Water), and the Energy Trio (Fire/Ice/Lightning); Dragonite acting as a central power (as well as an Air elemental). A long shot, but even if not Dragon-like certainly is visually appealing.

Normally I stop here, but since we're going on hiatus I'll comment on the rest.

Misterdarvus & Imperial Magala (14 pts each): Another pair of "Dragon Team" and unique take. Misterdarvus unabashedly made a team Lance would call dibs on (FUN FACT: While Lance never uses a Lapras in the main games, he did in the original Pokemon Stadium... the only game he didn't use a Dragonite, so in no game did he ever have a Dragonite and Lapras on the same team); I have a feeling this had the same decision energy as my Weather Mayhem team last competition. Now Imperial Magala went "high concept" with a Dragon Rider theme, not only having a main team but also providing some additional riders. I personally like it, but I can also see why others wouldn't give it high votes as it technically admits half of its team aren't meant to relate to dragons. Good for a story, not for a Dragon team.

CTNC (9 pts): Now I'm surprised as I thought you had a really good angle with the Dragon Rage factoid. I thought you would at the very least be above Misterdarvus.

Ironmage (7 pts): The other elemental team. Like Imperial Magala, I think you went a bit too "high concept" which, take it from me, usually doesn't work out. I get where you're coming from, but when presented doesn't quite meld together.

But, say what you want, I say we all did a pretty good job with what limits we had (Misterdarvus volunteeringly taking the "this is a Lance team" bullet so the rest of us had to think a bit more about it).

Now to ponder, when we return shall I pick a reasonable option so we can ease back into things :blobuwu: or the hardest to give our minds a workout :blobpex:.

After that this thread is going on hiatus for a little while, got some stuff going on IRL.
Best of luck with your IRL stuff, and thank you for running this thread so well for so long! I've really enjoyed it too!

(Kept almost entering these rounds, like with Mountain Kalos Psychic - would've gone with Sleep for my theme there. Though for Akala Ice, I took one look through the options, missed Glaceon, and never remembered to try again, even though Alola's my favorite region. My six for Kanto Dragon would've been themed around duality, just didn't manage to write anything up. Reading everyone else's entries + your number summaries to then vote has still been very fun for me.)

Good evening everyone! Decided to open up this thread again and, after consulting with the last round's winner (Pikachu315111) we have a brand-new concept to play around with. Hoping to see lots of people get involved as we pick things up again.

So, without any further ado, here we go...

The Kitakami Pokedex is here for those who need it: https://www.serebii.net/scarletviolet/kitakamipokedex.shtml
The Team: Mamoswine, Weavile, Froslass, Gallade, Dusknoir, Gliscor

:DP/Mamoswine: :DP/Weavile: :DP/Froslass: :DP/Gallade: :DP/Dusknoir: :DP/Gliscor:

The theme here is all about Pokémon that got new evolutions during the Sinnoh games, a trait shared by three of Kitakami’s four fully evolved Ice-Types. Froslass and Gallade are also both Dawn Stone evolutions, so having an excuse to pair them together is nice. Very simple post, but an effective one to try and start off 2024 on a simple note. (Happy New Years, by the way.)

This region is not very hostile, the NFEs are good enough to make a full Monotype, so no need to even explain why I included each Mon. Doubles based team:

:sneasel: Item: Normal Gem. Ability: Pickpocket. Moves: Fake Out, Taunt, Icy Wind, Snarl. Lead that flinches one Mon, prevents set-up with Taunt and drops Stats of foes before dying. If it somehow survives a contact move, it will also steal an item.
:piloswine: Item: Eviolite. Ability: Thick Fat. Moves: Stealth Rock, Mud Shot, Rock Tomb, Avalanche. Non ironically the bulkiest Pokemon on the team. Puts Rocks and drops Speed of the opponents before dying.
:froslass: Item: Icy Rock. Ability: Cursed Body. Moves: Snowscape, Aurora Veil, Thunder Wave, Curse. Here is where the fun begins. Froslass starts the snow, boosting the Defense of all the team. It proceeds to boost defensive Stats with Aurora Veil and paralyzes with Thunder Wave. It will suicide with Curse, but before that, might Disable some Move with Cursed Body. Perfect support Mon that will make sure that what comes after it will do some epic damage.
:mamoswine: Item: Brightpowder. Ability: Snow Cloak. Moves: High Horsepower, Icicle Crash, Ice Shard, Fissure. Physical attacker that abuses Snow with Snow Cloak, avoiding hits this way why hitting hard. If there is some bulky opponent that can,t be beaten with Icice Crash or High Horsepower... Fissure comes into play.
:glalie: Item: Leftovers. Ability: Moody. Moves: Protect, Blizzard, Freeze Dry, Chilling Water. Moody Mon. It will abuse the bulk given by Froslass to acumulate boosts and hit hard if lucky enough. Chilling Water supports and hits Rock and Fire types.
:weavile: Item: Sitrus Berry. Ability: Pickpocket. Moves: Sword Dance, Triple Axel, Knock Off, Tera Blast. Tera type: Electric. Ace Mon. If Aurora Veil is active, has decent bulk, enough to use Sword Dance. Ice + Electric is an almost unwallable combo, so this Weavile is assured to do a lot of damage if not killed quickly. Electric Tera type only gives one weakness and Ground Mons vs a Monoice won,t last long. Pickpocket + Sitrus Berry is another combo to be abused.

:glalie: :froslass: :mamoswine: :weavile: :ninetales: :sandslash:

The four fully-evolved Ice-types, and the two Pokémon with Ice-type regional forms, which coincidentally(?) are found in the same areas as the Ice-types.

:glalie:
Glalie @ Ice Rock
Ability: Ice Body
-Snowscape
-Blizzard
-Crunch
-Frost Breath
Snow setter, not much beyond that. Kinda wish it kept Explosion.

:froslass:
Froslass @ Ice Rock
Ability: Snow Cloak
-Snowscape
-Blizzard
-Will-o-Wisp
-Hex
The other Snow setter, has WispHex shenanigans as well.

:mamoswine:
Mamoswine @ Assault Vest
Ability: Thick Fat
-Stone Edge
-Earthquake
-Icicle Crash
-Ice Shard
Standard Mamoswine, well known for tearing through stuff.

:weavile:
Weavile @ Muscle Band
Ability: Pressure
-Triple Axle
-Low Kick
-Knock Off
-Swords Dance
Standard Weavile, also well-known for tearing through stuff, even when totally outclassed by a busted legendary.

:ninetales:
Ninetales @ Wise Glasses
Ability: Flash Fire
Tera Type: Ice
-Tera Blast
-Fire Blast
-Extrasensory
-Confuse Ray
One of two non-Ice types on the team. Can take on Steels with Fire Blast and Fighting-types with Extrasensory, plus troll Fire-types with Flash Fire.

:sandslash:
Sandslash @ Life Orb
Ability: doesn't matter here
Tera Type: Ice
-Tera Blast
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Leech Life
The other non-Ice type on the team, aka backup Mamo. EQ takes out Fire, Rock and Steel, Stone Edge is good for coverage, Leech Life to offset LO.

Whichever one of the two non-Ice types will Tera depends on which on is around later. Shame neither of them gets any Ice moves naturally.

Basic idea is the 4 fully evolved ice-types + pokemon found in the alabaster icelands in legends arceus (ALSO ITS A SINGLES TEAM)

Glalie's the lead that sets snow and hazards, maybe even a taunt.
Froslass can follow up with status alongside Hex, and if it lasts longer than it should, it can set up hail again.
Weavile can set up with the increased defense boost, and has Low Kick for Steel-types, who won't mind the Snorunt duo.
Mamoswine has Asasault Vest and Thick Fat for bulk on both ends to let it set up trailblazes easily. Opponents will find this Pokemon snowballing into a bulky and speedy menace.
Now, Basculegion can take advantage of their opponent having either a Fire or Fighting type dispatching previous members of the team to set up an Agility. From there, just slam your opponents with Adaptability moves, and also hit meaty Blizzards if hail is still up.
Gliscor is the Tera Mon(tm), and it can set up with a defense boost from the hail to launch both its STAB combo, which hits every type Ice is weak to for super effective damage, and Ice Fang to take advantage of Tera.

Mechanically, it's a pretty jank doubles team. It's trying to both show off Icy Wind as speed control and the accuracy boost from Gravity on moves like Blizzard, Icicle Crash, and Triple Axle. Thematically, I focused on mons that are part of pairs, though not actually using both halves of any one (sorry Glalie).

:mamoswine:
Mamoswine @ Assault Vest
Ability: Oblivious
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash
- Rock Slide
- High Horsepower
Counterpart to nobody in particular, though its Ground typing goes with the most intuitive use of Gravity. It's also the type used for the prompt, I guess.

:gardevoir:
Gardevoir @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Telepathy
- Icy Wind
- Life Dew
- Gravity
- Dazzling Gleam
Leads alongside Mamoswine, where it can use Telepathy to dodge earthquakes. I considered Hatterene in a similar role (its counterpart being Grimmsnarl) but it lacks both Telepathy and Icy Wind.

:weavile:
Weavile @ Razor Claw
Ability: Pressure
- Triple Axel
- Fake Out
- Knock Off
- Ice Shard
Ice Type #2, counterpart of Gliscor with the item slot used to make it explicit.

:dusclops:
Dusclops @ Eviolite
Ability: Pressure
- Gravity
- Night Shade
- Icy Wind
- Will-O-Wisp
Sticking to the gen 3 max makes its kinship with Banette more clear, though it helps that the defensive focus Eviolite provides is desirable. This is the secondary support mon.

:froslass:
Froslass @ Expert Belt
Ability: Cursed Body
- Blizzard
- Thunder
- Shadow Ball
- Protect
The special attacker of the team, using a less conventional method for accurate Blizzards. Without Snow, Gravity can keep Thunder in a usable spot as well.

:flapple:
Flapple @ Blunder Policy
Ability: Hustle
Tera Type: Ice
- Grav Apple
- Tera Blast
- Sucker Punch
- Dragon Rush
The Gamefreak-designated Gravity abuser, with accuracy that needs to be fixed and a signature move boosted by the field condition. As the likely last mon for an NPC, it's unfortunately also the most likely to get stuck without support so I attempted to compensate with the item.

:dp/weavile:
Weavile @ Flame Orb
Ability: Pickpocket
Jolly Nature
- Ice Spinner
- Fling
- Beat Up
- Taunt

:dp/arcanine:
Arcanine @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Intimidate
Adamant Nature
- Flamethrower
- Scorching Sands
- Extreme Speed
- Will-O-Wisp

:dp/glalie:
Glalie @ Never-Melt Ice
Ability: Ice Body
Adamant Nature
- Freeze-Dry
- Snowscape
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake

:dp/mamoswine:
Mamoswine @ Icy Rock
Ability: Snow Cloak
Adamant Nature
- High Horsepower
- Icicle Crash
- Snowscape
- Body Slam

:dp/froslass:
Froslass (F) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Snow Cloak
Timid Nature
- Blizzard
- Hex
- Will-O-Wisp
- Curse

:dp/magcargo:
Magcargo @ Hard Stone
Ability: Flame Body
Modest Nature
- Heat Wave
- Power Gem
- Tera Blast
- Shell Smash

The Team: Okay, so this one is a pretty simple idea; fire and ice, 'kay? All this team really wants to do is spread burns and annoy the shit out of you with Snow Cloak and the aforementioned status.

:weavile:
Honestly, this doesn't really do anything, I just wanted to point out that Fling + Flame Orb burns the opponent. So yeah! Just a meme set that stays in theme with the rest of the team!

:arcanine:
Obligatory fire type. It handles fire, steel, rock and physical attacking fighting types so it synergizes with the team decently.

:glalie:
Oh boy, here we have the first snow spreader. This one has priority and freeze dry and, while not strong on its own, should set up the rest of the team to mess with you pretty hard; on that note...

:mamoswine:
Suffer. Do you enjoy evasion mechanics on top of almost unresisted coverage? Yeah thought so- This thing can even set up snow for itself, big contender for the biggest threat here.

:froslass:
Evasion, hex to take advantage of burns and Will-o-Wisp + Curse. This is extremely dangerous if the previous mons gave you a good beating. If you're losing, this is gonna make you cry, if you're winning, it's gonna be pretty easy to deal with.

:magcargo:
The ace! This is the sweeper; Shell Smash into Ice/Fire/Rock coverage can fuck you up really hard, and if snow is still up, you might not even be able to take it out in one shot.

Hey everyone! HAPPY NEW YEAR! :blobwizard:

As our Master of Ceremony QuentinQuonce said, to start things up once again for a fresh new year we decided on doing one (and sorta the only one) from SV's DLC! :bloblul:

Being we're in Kitakami, I decided to do a two-fer with my theme.
First, of the fully evolved Ice-types available, all but one of them is a Yokai. Weavile is a kamaitachi, Glalie has oni inspiration with possible other yokai stuff, and Froslass is a Yuki-onna; Mamoswine is the one left out. Therefore, with Kitakami's strong connection to a story concerning Yokai, I made a Yokai team.
But there's quite a few Yokai-based Pokemon as one might expect, so if I was doing a Yokai team I may as well join the other Kitakami trainers with a Yokai theme. So the trainer I'm imagining is a member of the Ogre Clan.
VSKitakami_Ogre_Clan_M_2_SV.png

:sv/Weavile::sv/Glalie::sv/Froslass::sv/Gyarados::sv/Chandelure:
grimmsnarl.gif

Weavile (Tera: Ice
TeraGem_Ice.png
. Pressure. Loaded Dice:loaded_dice:. Triple Axel, Knock Off, Brick Break, Aerial Ace)
Glalie (Moody. Icy Rock:icy_rock:. Snowscape, Ice Shard, Spikes, Substitute)
Froslass (Snow Cloak. Mystic Water:mystic_water:. Blizzard, Shadow Ball, Chilling Water, Snowscape)
Gyarados (Moxie. Expert Belt:expert_belt:. Ice Fang, Waterfall, Earthquake, Outrage)
Chandelure (Flash Fire. White Herb:white_herb:. Haze, Overheat, Will-O-Wisp, Hex)
(Shiny) Grimmsnarl (Prankster. Punching Glove:punching_glove:. Ice Punch, Spirit Break, Drain Punch, Thunder Wave)

:weavile:Though I listed Weavile first, its actually the ace so likely will be going out last. Don't know whether it'll have Snow to help boost its Special Defense and Triple Axel, so instead I just focused on it being as self-efficient as possible to sweep up whosever left. EDIT: Forgot about Tera Types! While I could do something fancy, an Ice-type not having Ice weaknesses is temping, for the Ice-types I have I don't think it would matter. So instead I'll go all-in with Weavile's Ice-type and super boost that Triple Axel!

:glalie:Glalie would be my first Pokemon out. Why does it have Moody instead of Ice Body to work with Snowscape? Because I know Ice Body isn't going to help it much so better to hope Moody gives either some lucky defensive increases or/and an Attack increase so Ice Shard could sting a bit more. It's main role is setting up Snowscape and maybe getting in a layer of Spikes or two. Substitute is there just in case it goes up against a weaker opponent it can hide behind a Substitute for a turn, maybe even switch out.

:froslass:Best case scenario for Froslass is that it comes out with snow already falling. Being a Special Attacker does mean it gets to use Chilling Water to hopefully to soften physical blows my team doesn't like very much; even gave it Mystic Water to give it a bit more of a punch.

:gyarados:Gyarados is my physical heavy hitter. Obviously its based on an Eastern Dragon, specifically relating to the Dragon Gate myth.

:chandelure:Chandelure is my surprise counter. Will-o'-the-wisps are a popular kind of mythical creature, Japan has a few such as the hitodama and chochin'obake; any could have inspired Chandelure. If up against a Fire-type it can safely switch-in, power itself up, and hopefully hit back with more than twice the power. I've pretty much set it up to be a one-trick mon, but if it can knock out at least one mon and hinder some others it's a pretty good trick. Thank you GF for making Haze Ice-type.

:grimmsnarl:Finally, Grimmsnarl is basic troll/goblin, ogre, and oni you can get. Considering my trainer is part of the Ogre Clan and thus trying to use scary-looking Pokemon, doubling up on oni make sense; though I went with a Shiny Grimmsnarl as it turns it white which also makes it look like a yeti. Grimmsnarl is very optimized, it only has Prankster to give out Thunder Wave to slow & hinder the opponent while most of its other Moves are punching Moves to work with the Punching Gloves. Spirit Break decreases Special Attack so along with Chilly Water I have both offense stats covered. I'll be honest, I was hoping Grimmsnarl also learned Snowscape so it could be an emergency setter, but doesn't but I still liked having it on the team.

Ross.png

We're back baby.

The theme I'm going with is "Land, Sea, and Sky".

:sv/Froslass:

Snow Cloak
+Light Clay
-Blizzard
-Will-O-Wisp
-Snowscape
-Aurora Veil

:sv/Gyarados:

Intimidate
+Life Orb
-Chilling Water
-Hurricane
-Blizzard
-Temper Flare

Froslass and Gyarados represent sky. Froslass accompanies blizzards while Gyarados flies around in Hisui. Froslass sets up for the rest of the team while I'm not giving up on special Gyarados, this time having Temper Flare as an anti-Ice move if Hurricane or Blizzard miss.

:sv/Mamoswine:

Thick Fat
+Red Card
-Icicle Crash
-Earthquake
-Hard Press
-Stealth Rock

:sv/Basculegion-f:

Adaptability
+Life Orb
-Chilling Water
-Shadow Ball
-Ice Beam
-Mud Shot

Mamoswine and Basculeion represent sea. Basculegion are based on salmon that spend part of their life in the ocean before returning to rivers while I recently learned of cultural memories of mammoths in folktales being the animal that created the land out of the primordial waters.

:sv/Weavile:
Pickpocket
+Focus Sash
-Triple Axle
-Knock Off
-Snowscape
-Ice Shard

:sv/Garchomp:
Rough Skin
+Leftovers
-Tera Blast
-Earthquake
-Liquidation
-Sword Dance

Weavile and Garchomp represent land, but also can qualify as the other motifs. Weavile's based on the kamaitachi (as Pikachu315111 mentioned), a yokai based on winds so cold, they cut at your skin, while Garchomp is a mach-speed flying shark.
1704166984231.png

I was also inspire by an obscure monster from Monster Hunter Frontier, Anorupatisu, a flying wyvern based on carpenter shark that can use Ice and Dragon element.

Garchomp and White Basculin can also be found in the Alabaster Icelands in Hisui.

"Do you feel the chills running down your spine? Do the monsters in the night make you freeze in fear? ... Good."
Kitakami Ice 2.png

The idea here is that Froslass, Glalie, and Weavile are all based on various Yokai, dangerous Japanese myths. This leader is leaning into that, with an entire team of mons that are based on myths about monsters in the wilderness that eat people: a dragon, a witch, and an Onikuma(I decided Bloodmoon Ursaluna was probably not in the spirit of the challenge, but you can sub it in with no difficulty).

Froslass (F) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Cursed Body
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spikes
- Curse
- Icy Wind
- Chilling Water

Ursaluna @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Drain Punch
- Facade
- Fling

Glalie @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Moody
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 240 HP / 16 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Sheer Cold
- Freeze-Dry
- Disable

Gyarados @ Assault Vest
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Avalanche
- Dragon Tail
- Stone Edge

Hatterene (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Bounce
Tera Type: Psychic
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Draining Kiss
- Mystical Fire
- Nuzzle

Weavile @ Razor Fang
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Triple Axel
- Ice Shard
- Knock Off
The movesets are designed to replicate the feeling of climbing a mountain in a blizzard, with every mon being as miserable as possible to fight(the Gyarados is the most relaxing option). Lots of status, stat-lowering moves, and just enough bulk to be annoying. As always, good luck setting up against anything on this team.

I initially did a standard Hiker's mountain team with Mamoswine and animals/plants/rocks from mountains, but none of the other 3 ice types really qualify as "animals from a frozen environment" imo, they're all just a bit mystical. That's what led me to this concept. I very nearly tossed the Glalie out of frustration(it sucks and overlaps with Froslass too much), but that would leave me with only 2 ice-types and that's not really reasonable. With this concept, I was really spoiled for choice on the final 3 mons, my only issue was type overlap(Lots of dark and fairy competition as you might expect).

Edit: And that's why I don't look at other people's teams before posting. Pikachu315111 , congrats on also picking an excellent concept.

This thread coming back is a great way to start a new year! :D

I'm pretty happy about one thing about making type specialist team in SV. Terastal means the last Pokemon can be whatever you want! If the Bug Gym can have Teddiursa then I don't see why an Ice team can't have a Fire type if you can come up with a half decent excuse. (Needless to say, Ninetales is the easiest to excuse and I wonder if anyone will use it.) I pretty much went with a joke for my Terastal wildcard and I regret nothing! :P

The theme I'm going for isn't a lore theme. I'm treating this team like an NPC that's made to showcase what's new in The Teal Mask. It's mostly TMs, but non-Ice Pokemon that I chose help show off the DLC too.

:Weavile:
Weavile
Pressure
-Icicle Spear
-Beat Up
-Sword Dance
-Trailblaze

With Icicle Spear being one of The Teal Mask's TMs, I thought I'd throw in Beat Up to have two multi hit attacks. Beat Up is best before anyone's KOed, so Weavile has to be the lead. The AI doesn't realize that multi hit attacks hit multiple times when deciding what move to use, so I went with Trailblaze because it has low power but is still useful because of the a Speed boost and Sword Dance to boost Attack. I could probably use a King's Rock or Loaded Die, but I don't want items on everyone and the King's Rok feels too evil.

:Basculegion-F:
Basculegion (Female)
Swift Swim
-Ice Beam
-Flip Turn
-Last Respects
-Hydro Pump

White Stripe Basculin can be found in modern times after only Red and Blue Stripe being catchable in Paldea. The new form also means the new evolution! A female is used for the white mist and mixed offensive stats that let her have a more powerful Ice Beam.

To show off Flip Turn it's best to have the user come out as soon and often as possible. I don't want to lead with someone that's not an Ice type, so Basculegion is second. As a bonus, switching lets it show off Last Respects getting stronger with each KOed ally.

The Ability being Swift Swim is odd on an Ice Team, but Adaptability discourages using Ice Beam when the STAB are much more powerful. I could have gone with Mold Breaker, but the next Pokemon knows Rain Dance.

:Glalie::Damp Rock:
Glalie@Damp Rock
Inner Focus
-Freeze-Dry
-Weather Ball
-Rain Dance
-Taunt

Weather Ball is a TM, but it's also Level Up move for Glalie starting in SV, so I'm not sure if it counts as a TM move... Still using it anyway! Rain not only changes Weather Ball to a 100 Power Water Move, but it also helps everyone by either removing their Fire weakness or activating Swift Swim. Taunt is filler and is more interesting than another attack. Besides, coverage isn't needed when Freeze-Dry and Water have perfect coverage.

There's some items on this team because the Ogre Clan uses items. I don't think I need to explain why I went with a Damp Rock.

:Mamoswine:
Mamoswine
Thick Fat
-Icicle Crash
-High Horsepower
-Roar
-Stealth Rock

High Horsepower is STAB that happens to be a new TM, but the move to show off is Roar. Forcing switches is as annoying as it is effective with Stealth Rock. Icicle Crash over Icicle Spear is for variety of Ice Attacks and, as I said before, the AI doesn't realize multihit attacks hit multiple times. There's not much else to say other than Thick Fat canceling the Fire weakness.

:Froslass::Choice Band:
Froslass@Choice Band
Cursed Body
-Ice Spinner
-Poltergeist
-Switcheroo
-Body Slam

The Trick Band strategy is a mean one, but its main purpose isn't restricting the opponent. It makes sure they have an item for Poltergeist. I know Body Slam doesn't look like a last good move, but it's boosted by the Choice Band if Froslass keeps it and alternatives were Trailblaze or Crunch... Disable was tempting with the Trick Band combo, but it'd make players switch to someone that might not have an item.

:Sinistcha::Sitrus Berry:
Sinistcha@Sitrus Berry
Tera Type: Ice
Heatproof
-Tera Blast
-Matcha Gotcha
-Scald
-Hex

For the Terastal oddball, we have Sinistcha. Why? It's Ice tea! (Ignore that its signature move and new TM both cause burns.) It's also one of the Pokemon introduced in The Teal Mask, which helps show off what the DLC has, but who cares about anything other than Ice tea? :P

Matcha Gatcha lets Sinistcha show off this new Pokemon's signature move in addition to the Scald TM, which is surprising coverage from a Grass type that also synergizes with Hex.

I hope the idea of showing off the DLC's new stuff and the movesets made this team much more interesting than it looks at a glance.
