Yay predictions!

zarator vs. Engineer Pikachu:
<@elevator_music> zara v. engi is a fast reffing
<@elevator_music> just wait for engi to go over dq

Complications vs. Rediamond:
I'm mostly judging this based on experience. Red has been here a really long time. His mons are also super well trained.

Ragnarokalex vs. Its_A_Random:
I would write something here but IAR is one of the battlers.

rickheg vs. deadfox081:
Honestly I can't call this for the life of me. Both are as inactive, and both are about equally rusty. deadfox has well-trained mons compared to rick, and more experience, but this will be interesting. And it won't be "who goes over DQ first". Hopefully.

Maxim vs. dogfish44:
I would write something here but dogfish44 is one of the battlers.

Texas Cloverleaf vs. Leethoof:
Even without DQ Texas is a lot more experienced, and has more well-trained mons. This might just end up with a DQ, and maybe Texas put himself here so he would get an easy R1 victory by DQ. Knowing Texas and Leethoof that's probably why this matchup happened.

Elevator Music vs. Pwnemon:
Gonna be another very close one. Can't call this at all.

Gerard vs. Birkal:
<+Birkal> well fuck me
<+Birkal> Gerard's team: Gallade, Togekiss, Gardevoir, Aurumoth, Mollux

To confirm, the picture of the bracket is the bracket challonge.com gave me to randomize the matchups

I am doing this without looking at teams so bare with me.

Zarator
vs. Engineer Pikachu

While zarator always gets the short stick on tourneys i trust him to finally break this record and go to round 2.

Complications vs. Rediamond

Rediamond is a great player when he gives a damn. Or doesnt rush his orders. Complications is a solid player but i will bet on my old ref tutor to win this.

Ragnarokalex vs. Its_A_Random

Not that easy of a bet mind you. Ralex is very capable of winning here. But while it is possible IAR is still the favorite for a good reason.

rickheg vs. deadfox081

Dude stop choking. Seriously.

Maxim vs. Dogfish44

Maxim is a nice player and all but unless dq strikes (very possible) or some massive choke happens, i think it is a safe bet.

Texas Cloverleaf vs. Leethoof

While leet has that goofy persona and all he is a terrific player. I suspect that he will pull a matezoide and use crappy pokemon. But if he doesnt (and doesnt get dq) i think he will win. In a close match though.

Elevator Music vs. Pwnemon

Emma is the single best player in asb as of today. There, ive said it.

Pwnemon is very good and will give emma a run for his money. But considering that megaevos (emma's weakpoint somewhat) wont play a big part here (if i remember pwne's team correctly) I feel that the outcome will benefit the player overall. And thats emma.

But in this match ( more than in any other this round) I might be wrong.

Gerard vs. Birkal

While this is singles, gerard is still a more...mischievous player. Birkal is good but experience is very valuable against overbloated movepools.

zarator vs. Engineer Pikachu

Third time is the charm, right? In all honesty, zar's team is all but manufactured to win this tournament and my money is on him going all the way. I think this is the match of the round, though.
Complications vs. Rediamond

Saying this so I win either way.

Ragnarokalex vs. Its_A_Random

While IAR may be brought down in this tournament, I don't see it happening easily. RA is good, but IAR is one of the biggest players in the modern metagame.

rickheg vs. deadfox081

Frosty said:
Dude stop choking.

Maxim vs. Dogfish44

I said it here: I think that df is very very threatening in this tournament, but I think he is beatable. But I doubt it happens here. If Parental Bond isn't nerfed in time (I haven't followed, maybe it already has) that's also a major boon for him. With that said, Maxim will need a broken ability, excellent orders, and a ton of luck to win this one. It will probably be closer than dogfish would want and most people expect, but I think an upset is unlikely.
Texas Cloverleaf vs. Leethoof

Honestly calling this based on DQ. Leethoof is a good player, but his team's lesser development is only compounded by the probability he DQs here. It's a shame, really, because if he doesn't this could be a fantastic match.

Elevator Music vs. Pwnemon

Joining the "EM is all but unstoppable" bandwagon. I never underestimate Pwn, but I don't see an upset as probable.

Gerard vs. Birkal

lol Birkal got screwed. Sorry, buddy.

Yeah, I guess I'll do this.

Zarator vs. Engineer Pikachu

If Engi actually shows up, he's a top contender to win. Yes, I'm banking on him actually appearing. Although Zarator will still give him a run for his money, and this will certainly be a fun match if both players bring their A game.

Complications vs. Rediamond

I'm picking Red simply because he's been around longer. Complications winning would hardly be an upset, though.

Ragnarokalex vs. ItsaRandom

IAR has been a top dog in ASB since day one. He beat Deck Knight when everyone thought he was invincible to become Ground leader. RAlex is good. IAR is simply more prepared.

rickheg vs. deadfox81

Fuck you guys.

Maxim vs. Dogfish44

Dogfish is a guy who has been at the top tier of ASB since forever. Maxim is a helluva battler, and Dogfish certainly can't afford mistakes. But so long as he remembers to post on time, he's got this.

Texas Cloverleaf vs. Leethoof

I've seen Leethoof perform very well, and not so great. I don't think either are ready for Texas.

Elevator Music vs. Pwnemon

Whoever wins this will win Mewtwo. This is the finals as far as I'm concerned. I think emma has bigger movepools, but Pwnemon proved in the team tournament he doesn't need a huge movepool to win. Picking Pwnemon, although it's easily the closest match. And most important.

Gerard vs. Birkal

Bad match-up for Birkal. Sorry bro.

Predicts i guess: (as per frosty's, made without any look at teams)

zarator vs. Engineer Pikachu

just wait till engi dqs lmao. That said, if he doesn't DQ, engi should win this.

Complications vs. Rediamond

Sorry Complications, but Rediamond is one of those guys who fluctuates between getting wrecked and killing everyone and he's been on a losing streak lately

Ragnarokalex vs. Its_A_Random

Another predict made solely on DQ. Ragnarokalex is sorely underrated and if I thought he could order on time throughout the entire round I would be predicting against IAR.

rickheg vs. deadfox081

inb4 he dont stop choking

Maxim vs. Dogfish44

sure he has trouble reffing at least every month but i've never seen him go over DQ in a battle.

Texas Cloverleaf vs. Leethoof

Unless he DQs. Leethoof is one of the best battlers ever, sorry tex, and he looks like he's actually motivated to play in this one, though we'll see how long that lasts.

Elevator Music vs. Pwnemon

Here's to a good game, emma, I'll have to manage my time wisely so we don't get a repeat of my shit-ass orders that I gave in our gym match.

Gerard vs. Birkal

Downside to training only one type of Pokemon:
On the bright side, Birkal has Kecleon and Protean is ridiculous, but Texas said that all rulings during this tournament will take immediate effect. Awkward.

zarator vs. Engineer Pikachu

Zarator is banned from winning tourney round 1's. Extrapolating from this fact makes this the likely result.
:P

Complications vs. Rediamond

Seems I'm going against the grain here, but this will be a close one.

Ragnarokalex vs. Its_A_Random

Two very solid battlers, but I'm inclined to think that IAR's the better of the two. If it's a short match RAlex is more likely to win, a medium or long match will be in IAR's favour.

rickheg vs. deadfox081

Again, this one is going to go to the wire. Unless one of you chokes.

Maxim vs. Dogfish44

En Garde!

Texas Cloverleaf vs. Leethoof

I'd love for Leet's team to win, because they're made of 4 awesome mons (And a derpfisk). However I don't see that happening any time soon... of course, Leet has at times completely terrified me with some of the best battle skills I've seen, but they've normally been in triples formats.

Elevator Music vs. Pwnemon

I can't think of anyone in ASB who would fail to put EM inside of the top 3 battler positions. Pwn got unlucky on the matchup though =x

Gerard vs. Birkal

Psychic gym leader vs. Fighting Leader. If that's not ominous I don't know what is.

Naturally this is assuming no DQs happen, ofc.

zarator vs Engineer Pikachu - Well, damn. Good luck!
Complications vs Rediamond - Complications seem to have a solid team advantage, so as long as he abuses it he should manage to win this.
Ragnarokalex vs Its A Random - Close one... but will IAR manage to contain Ragnarokalex's wild cards? I'm not sure.
rickheg vs deadfox081 - Very close. I'd say deadfox081 has a slight advantage in terms of Pokemon development and experience, but I wouldn't be surprised if rickheg won this.
Maxim vs Dogfish44 - Dogfish may be the superior battler, skill-wise, but as far as teams go, I think Maxim has the advantage here.
Texas Cloverleaf vs Leethoof - Superior experience AND superior team. As much as I respect Leethoof's skills since I faced him in battle, this one looks a bit onesided
Elevator Music vs Pwnemon - Another close one, but Pwnemon's team looks better to me.
Gerard vs Birkal - Going against the crowd here, but I think many of you haven't looked closely enough at the two teams.

More predictions!
zarator vs. Engineer Pikachu - Engi's team gets screwed sideways by zarator's imo (Lol Gengar and Gardevoir), while he has 2 megas and engi has none. This might be a close one though due to how good Engi is.
Complications vs. Rediamond - So long as Complications doesn't choke, his team has the clear advantage.
Ragnarokalex vs. Its_A_Random - Regirock destroys a good bit of Alex's team, but the Togekiss and Gallade duo might cause some problems.
rickheg vs. deadfox081 - deadfox is a very strong player.... so long as he doesn't choke.
Maxim vs. Dogfish44 - Maxim has been fighting more lately and he has a powerful Mega (even though Parental Bond is getting nerfed). I'm still a bit unsure, though.
Texas Cloverleaf vs. Leethoof - Texas' picks eat Leethoof's team.
Elevator Music vs. Pwnemon - Match to watch. There is no single Pokemon in either team that will win it.
Gerard vs. Birkal - Worst possible matchup for Birkal here. There is nothing that prevents him from surpising us and taking the win, though.

Not claiming to be some sort of guru on this; everything below is my opinion. I know I like reading other people's predictions, so I figure I'll provide some of my own!

zarator
vs. Engineer Pikachu

I'm glad to be reffing this match, because both of these users have a ton of history that they're sure to utilize for this killer battler. This will probably be the closest match here, with the current 3v3 match up looking pretty even. I give zarator the edge for two reasons. First, his gym is a bit more active, meaning that his battling chops are likely a bit less rust. Second, Mega Evolutions are absurdly good in ASB and zarator's team is stacked with two of them, including a maxed Gengar. Engineer's Pokemon, particularly Colossoil, should put up a good fight, but I think zarator has this.

Complications vs. Rediamond

Gardevoir is probably the hottest Pokemon in the game at this point in time. But if any users is aptly prepared to respond to it, I'd probably be Complications. His great Steel-type Pokemon can hit hard against it. Unfortunately, Rediamond also has a healthy Mega Heracross that won't hesitate to score a ORKO against either Excadrill or Bisharp. The dynamic between those two Mega Evolutions is ultimately going to be the end of Complications in this match. We'll see how this plays out; Complications' bulky offense might triumph in the end.

Ragnarokalex vs. Its_A_Random

IAR is so solid at this game and his team is monstrous. It's a good thing Ragnarokalex brought primarily Special Attacking Pokemon; IAR's team is stacked with Steelix and Regirock. But those fighters are going to have to get through the terror that is Aromatisse, which is going to wall the crud out of Alex's Dragon-type Pokemon. I wish Alex would play more, because he's an incredible battler who users tried-and-true Pokemon to win matches. But I think in this match, team advantage plus excellent battling ability is going to swing the victory to the Ground-type gym leader.

rickheg vs. deadfox081

I'm gonna put the commentary on choking aside here because I believe that both users here are gonna put forth some serious effort. They've all brought A+ Pokemon to the arena here, and I think both have a good shot of winning the entire BoB tournament. I think rickheg beats out deadfox in terms of battling skill. He's going to need to capitalize on strong, game-snatching plays if he's going to pull of a win. On the other hand, deadfox has a better team line-up, notably Reuniclus with rickheg having no super-effective STAB against it. Luck's going to play into this too, and I think deadfox081 will prey upon that.

Maxim vs. Dogfish44

Picked Maxim on a whim, to be frank. Normally, I'd be very inclined to pick against someone who has been as inactive recently as dogfish44. But df44 knows how to cover his tracks and I'm sure will keep his nose thoroughly buried in the new DAT for every move he makes. What I think is going to make the difference here is that dogfish isn't yet familiar enough with the updates to capitalize on them. With only one Normal-type resist and a bit of rust to shake off, I think this match is going to develop into the perfect storm for Maxim to take a win.

Texas Cloverleaf vs. Leethoof

The dude deserve a win after going 0-3 in this season of SPL. But for real, Texas is a massive threat with a good mix of strong Gen1 Pokemon and CAPs (albeit Rotom weak). I'm a bit surprised he didn't decide to bring Charizard to the match, but overall I'd say he has the edge in terms of team match-up. Leethoof is going to need to be religious about keeping the Pokemon advantage swung his way if he has any hopes of winning this match. If Texas can keep momentum on his side (and not miss 96% Draco Meteor combinations), this battle won't last long.

Elevator Music vs. Pwnemon

I'm not as impressed with this match-up as others are. Maybe I'm a dick, I dunno. I've never been overly impressed with Pwnemon in ASB; but to be fair, his hay day was at its prime before I joined. Yes, we all know that Cyclohm and Pyroak are at the top of the food chain. Pwnemon's team is absolutely saturated with powerful, hard-hitting Pokemon. I just can't see him (or anyone really) winning against Elevator Music without blending great Pokemon with creativity. Emma knows this game better than the back of his hand, and his tournament team should pull through.
Gerard vs. Birkal

History indicates that I'll win this one. But for real, good luck, Gerard. I was joking around before the brackets went up that you were the user I'd least like to face in this tournament. Your team is solid and your battling sense is a great blend of innovation and power. Hopefully we'll make some fireworks with the match.

If anyone wants their team for copy/paste reasons, please send me or another mod a PM & we can give it to you. Reply to the conversation (as in hit reply on the post, not actually replying replying) in order to get a copy/paste-able of your team. IIRC it is locked to prevent people from editing their teams from behind the backs of everyone in ASB.

zarator vs. Engineer Pikachu

Well this seems shaky given first send-out for Engineer, but each one of Engineer's Pokémon can counter one of zarator's Pokémon, where as zarator does not completely have that luxury. The match basically boils down to who can keep the match-up advantage. zarator may be able to gain the initial match-up advantage, but it will be a question of whether he has the skill to maintain it. The pressure is on him to break his so-called curse, & I am not sure if he will be able to.

Complications vs. Rediamond

Rediamond has too many alleys to gain the advantage, & will have little complications taking this one out. Between Gardevoir, Mega Heracross, & possibly Cyclohm, Complications will struggle to win this match.

Ragnarokalex vs. Its_A_Random

Good luck man.

rickheg vs. deadfox081

This is going to be close. The coin-flip will be critical, & like in most matches, match-up advantage is critical, as well as being able to order first well. deadfox should be able to win this if he can keep calm & not choke when it matters. rickheg winning is not an upset in the slightest, however.

Maxim vs. Dogfish44

BAN MEGA KANGASKHA- oh wait we already nerfed it? In all honesty, in spite of the recent nerf, Mega Kangaskhan will give Dogfish a lot of headaches. Cinccino's high damage output will hurt as well, & combined will put a lot of offensive pressure on Dogfish. How Dogfish plays his Porygon-Z will be critical.

Texas Cloverleaf vs. Leethoof

Close, but Leethoof is going to have issues dealing with things like Snorlax & Starmie. Leethoof also suffers from a "lack of confidence" playing singles, which may work against him.

Elevator Music vs. Pwnemon

Elevator Music is one of the best players going around, but it is not to say that Pwnemon will not give him a run for his money. Match-up advantage will decide the winner here, & I honestly think EM can do this a lot better. The coin-flip will be critical.

Gerard vs. Birkal

How Birkal plays Kecleon will be a major factor. Birkal will give Gerard a run for his money here. The issue here comes down to match-up advantage & how much Gerard can get out of Aurumoth, which I think he will be able to get a lot out of.

Does this mean I have to face "The Bye" & his Ho-Oh & Groudon instead?

In all seriousness, sucks I have to win this way. For the record, I was using: Regirock, Revenankh, & Aromatisse.

KOC goes to: Aht the Cinccino (x1), Nimbus the Cyclohm (x3), Maya the Kangaskhan (x1)

Can we nerf Cyclohm now? Seriously, screw Shield Dust.

Joking aside, good game dogfish, may you have luck in the rest of the tournament.
