How is that Mamoswine lead? I've see a few of them and they did pretty well. Anyone have the set?

EDIT:

Rain check

hhjj is testing Starmie
Darknessmalice is testing Mamoswine
Umbarsc is testing Deoxys-D
Ferdie is testing a AntiLead Breloom

How are these tests going? can you give me the information now?

Banned deucer.
Ace Matador used one against me a few weeks ago I think and it worked pretty well, I'm considering using one myself. Unfortunetely I don't know the exact set, you'd have to ask someone else.

There should be more than one person testing each of these sets if you want to have results that can be called definitive. Playstyle and - yes - favoritism will always have an effect on whether or not a player considers something "good". I am aware that there are likely other players using these casually, but I would encourage everyone who is participating in this thread to test every set. That way if someone says why something is good or not, you can disagree with more than just theorymon. And really, how long does it take to test these things out? Ubers is so centralized that you will probably have sufficient data in something like eight battles.

(This especially goes out to you, Gen, since you more or less have the final word in this thread. You should be testing everything yourself).

That said, I'm gonna go try some of this stuff out and report back ^__^

EDIT: Also, I would like to reiterate that any set posted in this thread should already have been tested by YOU before you post them here. This is not a random speculation thread; its porpoise is to discuss experiences using a certain set.

I wouldn't call Breloom huge success even I said so earlier. Yes it can sleep something and OHKO or 2HKO some things but it is too slow and fragile so it is too easy to revenge kill. And btw, Mach Punch over Protect is recommended so you can hurt Lead Darkrais.

So I would say fail. Not superbad but not awesome either.

What purpose does Jolly serve? You can beat out standard Groudon without it, Kyogre has no choice but to attack (so endeavor turn 1), and everything else outright beats you in speed regardless of nature.

I do test most of the sets, unless Theorymon decides to take them.

I'll go give him another test then give you my final word.

While this does sound very appealing, I would like to mention one thing you might've forgot: Surprise sets.

With surprise sets, people can easily say "it works" in a few matches because it caught the opponent off guard. That I don't think is the definition of "works" at all. A set that works should have a constant force in the metagame and not die out when its surprise is revealed. There's a reason why I was skeptical about Bologo's Absol set (sorry, dude) when he claimed it works-the moment he brought it out in this thread I was able to take full advantage of the set's flaws and set up Spikes and wall it at the same time. And furthermore it actually still loses to Darkrai leads despite the fact that it's supposed to beat it. However I'm not completely dismissing the set as Bologo is a pretty good player himself and perhaps he could come up with better options or somehow work around this flaw with his team or something.

How does that relate to this? Well, you'd want to post the set you're working on so we know what to expect, so no surprise will be the factor in what works on not. This allows us to comment on it and dismiss it based on factors common and borderline in the metagame.

Of course, all that is needed is the general idea of it. You can still run different surprise EV spreads like the way I do with Kyogre, Groudon, and Giratina-O. This is because if the surprise is found, you can still adapt and make it still a surprise. But you can only have so much room to adapt when your set heavily depends on it.

I am in no way saying surprise is bad, but if you do want to play with surprises then don't even mention them in this thread. Sometimes, a surprise moveset can still work even when mentioned because people expect other things 99% of the time due to the Pokemon's big movepool, and that's perhaps the only reason surprise can be considered as a factor whether a set works or not-it still stays as a surprise after revelation.

By no means am I dismissing your rule here. I encourage everyone to test their sets to back up their theorymon (not you Theory). However, it would be great if people post the set they're planning to test.

I would like to report that Anit-Lead Weavile is a failure IMO. The reason why is because the only lead Weavile seemed to match up well against was Deoxys Speed.

However, this Mamoswine set worked wonderfully as a lead.

@ Lum Berry
Adamant, 252 attack/136 Def/116 speed (the evs are not set in stone, they are just there for survivng a fire punch from Groudon, I will find a better ev spread later)
-Earthquake
-Ice Shard
-Avalanche
-Superpower

This set is designed to beat 3 common leads in Ubers. Deoxys-Speed can only lay down stealth rock, as Earthquake+Ice shard kills it. Darkrai can survive that, so Superpower paired with Lum Berry easily takes care of him (along with thoes anti-lead Tyranitars that will survive Earthquake) The last lead this set is meant to take care of is Groudon. Avalanche+Earthquake KOs support Groudon if it attacks, and 2 Avalanches and an Earthquake beat it if Groudon lays down Stealth Rock first turn. The reason why I am not using the endeaver lead is because I had a hard time actually laying down Stealth Rock with it.

Exeggutor. My opponent was pretty crappy, so it's not worth a lot but Exeggutor does heaps to that Mewtwo, and does a nice little endgame sweep. More logs to come.

Just wondering, what about Hippowdon?

With its high base Defense and HP, it puts up a fight against Groudon, Rayquaza, Garchomp and a few other physical threats. I have not tested this so I am proposing a hypothesis that Ice Fang can kill Rayquaza and possibly Garchomp if it hits (and no Yache Berry). Slack Off can heal. It can switch into Choice Thunders, cancel out the weather for Kyogre & Palkia, then get a free turn to attack or heal as well.. Its attack is quite good so with STAB Earthquake it should be able to do some damage.

I think hippowdon would not be worth trying as essentially it is groudon with worse stats with a different weather effect which arguably TTar does alot better. It will likely not have enough stopping power to beat many legendaries and will therefore be setup bait. Also test before you suggest.

Why use Hippo over Skarmory or Groudon? Sandstorm isn't that helpful in Ubers and basing a team around it would be silly.

Thanks for doing logs Thorns

OK afer testing vappy for quite a while i have come to a conclusion.
vapereon = Fail

It just dont have the defencive stats i mean one can argue that
130/60/95 is good but not compared to
225/10/135

I mean if i run 252 hp/252 sp.def/6 def
then its just an infereior blissey.
And thunder hits right pass protect half the time anyways so i cant afford to scout for moves most of the time, or heal myself for that matter.

Then i tryed 252 hp/252 def/6 sp.def
It was just as bad.It would get raped by special attacks.I mean the only thing it could do was come in on scizor and that also not solidly as BP is all i could take anyways. Even SD ray raped vappy as if i come in on SD,go for Ice beam and he hits me with a +2 Outrage w/LO
Would absolutly rape me.Definite 1hko
And without LO
101.72% - 119.61%
Would still ko me.LOL
all in all vapereon is an inferior bliss. I tried Choice specs with wish but same ol' story. Was outclassed by a number of pokes.

If i ran anyother spread with equal defences then i would get raped by both sides. And i barely ever passed wishes as anything that would switch in would threaten to ko me.

The only good thing it could do was come in for free on a choice speecsed/scarfed kyogres water mover but that about it.

So vapereon was epic fail.
Sorry if i wrote to much/little tell me if you want more feed back or anything else. And i enjoyed testing it.Maybe i will do another in the future if this was satisfactory.

Oh and EDIT:
I always felt vappy was the weak point in my team and i could improve only if i replaced vappy.

what the heck? Bronzong using U-Turn? Latias using Spacial Rend? Hippowdon with DROUGHT? I think you've got your pokemon mixed up

EDIT: ROFL nvm I just noticed the nicknames

One Pokemon that people totally forget about is Rhyperior. He has uber-like physical power. Obviously he gets trouble from Kyogre, but if you manage to get a Sub in, you get to damage him greatly (rendering water spout weak, allowing a safer switch). He can rape a lot of the Physical Uber game. DD/SDRayquaza for example. Hidden behind a sub he is immune to Darkrai (who would get owned by SubPunch)

Not to mention Wobbuffet (Who I still strongly beleive he would be fine in OU) won't be able to Tickle/Charm him thanks to Sub. Counter would also only be able to break the Sub.

The EVs allow 101 subs (although seismic toss/Night shade is rare in Uber)

@ Leftovers
Solid Rock
132 HP / 252 Atk / 124 Def
Adamant Nature
-Earthquake
-Focus Punch
-Rock Slide
-Substitute

I have tested him in the Uber game and he works effectively

who in the uber metagame does rhyperior switch in on?? every special attacker in the tier is faster and can OHKO him. i dont see how this works, or even comes CLOSE to working.

and why not just use groudon? better typing, ability, stats makes him seem like a better pokemon that rhyperior in every aspect.

I'm going to echo the thought since you overlooked it; why this over Groudon? Every single one of it's stats is higher other than HP, which is 30 HP difference (negligible). The only advantage is STAB Rock, and you barely take advantage of that, and it's still not enough to make Rhyperior an option.

Focus Punch is really meh and almost exclusively for Darkrai. Everything else will be hit just as hard by STAB Earthquake (use STAB Stone Edge or Rock Slide for Flyers, as they all resist Focus Punch anyways). For the number of Psychics, I'm surprised you don't have Megahorn.

Sub won't save you from Wobb as he'll likely just Encore you. Tickle and Charm are near-nonexistant as they just don't work well in Ubers.

I have my doubts that your statements are really backed up.

so what phyiscal threats are you going to switch into then?? think before posting an obviously useless set. and dont insult me when you have been here for less than a month and CLEARLY have no clue about the uber tier.

lets switch into groudon, the most common physical uber threat... wait, that doesnt work. lets switch into rayquaza, before knowing whether it is mixed or physical. mixquaza murders it while a SD LO earthquake kills it as well. switching into scizor while he uturns leads you to an disadvantageos position. so just which "PHYSICAL" threats will you be switching into?

and lets say you manage a double switch to get him on on a blissey or something. blissey user switches in a groudon and renders rhyperior completely useless.

why use rhyperior over the obvious superior groudon.

Kryuell, it is pretty clear that you either have not tested that set at all or are biased in presenting you results. The fact that you are using rock slide over Stone Edge when the power is necessary to damage Lugia, and Focus Punch over Megahorn when there are gobs of Pokemon weak to Bug and nothing relevant weak to Fighting makes it clear that you have no idea what you are talking about.

Let's get this thread back on track.

The mantra for this thread should be:

"Test before you suggest"

This would prevent people from continually posting sets that have no viability in ubers whatsoever. Also the mantra rhymes.
