Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 3 (Competitive Discussion)

Um......why do people think Ice Punch on Tyranitar is even worth using? It already has Ice Beam which 2HKOs Hippo and OHKOs Gliscor.....

Salamance is broken. It completely outclasses Dragonite, now that its niche is gone.

I can see Salamance: DD, Outrage, Fire Blast, EQ with Lum Berry/Life Orb. DD on switch and now you can just dominate the metagame, using Outrage when you can't KO with other moves. The new Garchomp?

Remember when everyone thought Rhyperior was going to dominate the metagam? What your talking about is just theorymon. And in your theory you forgot how many more pokemon are going to running around with Ice Punch and Icy Wind now that they are tutors. Not to mention there are going to be a plethora of pokemon running around with new movesets in general.

Salamane won't live up to it Outrageous (pun intended) hype.

Platinum has broken the game....D:
but seriously, how ca crobat learn heatwave?? orLuxray learn magnet rise?? And Bullet Punch Scizor is gonna hurt pretty bad...

People when you do you think we can know the complete list of the pokemon that learn the tutor moves?

I try to explain myself better...I would like to see in the page of each pokemon "Platinum tutor Attack" :)

Do you think in a couple of day will be already possible?

Choice Bander can't come close to 2HKOing Hippo with Ice Beam and

Absolute max Attack isn't a necessity on CB Tar. Earlier in the metagame people ran a Brave natured Tar with Ice Beam and a few Special Attack EVs to deal with Hippo and Gliscor. obviously you get to use max Attack with Ice Punch but its not going to change much.

Does anyone know how many Shards each tutor move costs? Also which tutor gets which color shard? I know 212 is blue...

Anyways, I think the first post needs to be updated, I tested Sceptile and it gets ThunderPunch.

Jimbo...Jonny yesterday told me that as 212 asked for a 2 red and 8 blue

So I think they don't want only blue there...but I don't remember if it was for Ice Punch or Icy Wind as move

Draggy is still bulkier and has Superpower over Brick Break. It can also support.

This is a good point IMO. As I think someone has already mentioned, with the threat of Skymin lurking around the corner (and I think all the OMG Uber hype is ridiculous atm), support sets could be a lot more viable for Dragonite. A special defensive set with Ice Beam / Thunder Wave / Light Screen / Roost can comfortably deal with any set that doesn't have HP Ice and also support the team with paralysis and protection from special attacks. I think it can take two Specs Air Slashes even after taking Stealth Rock damage on the switch in too.

I don't like to theorymon too much, but I wouldn't rule out Dragonite as surplus to requirements in OU just yet, unlike how many others have.

Platinum has broken the game....D:

wish people would stop saying this...i would think our exercise with garchomp has proven that things that are actually going to "break" the metagame in practice will be noticed by those who care/are paying attention and they will be banned if so.

like with sky shaymin...i am preemptively disappointed that "i" probably won't get to use it because it will probably prove itself to be uber but we'll actually do something about it instead of just making pointless threads and complaints

Well that's what the "big deal" is. CB Tar can now take them out with Aqua Tail without having to change its EV spread or nature.

Explaining Heat Wave Crobat is like explaining Icy Wind Honchkrow..as for Luxray it's also weird. But w/e Heat Wave is a nice addition to NP bat so I'm not complaining :P.

There are some bees that can join together and flap their wings so fast that they suffocate and overheat predators and other threats.

I guess it's the same for Crobat/Zapdos. Besides, Zapdos is the thunderstorm Pokemon, that comes with heat.

Quick question; in the future when we've worked out just how much Platinum has influenced the metagame, would it be a possibility to have a competitive pre-platinum metagame? Sorta like 200 and 386 in Advance.

Not sure if this's been said, but it looks like CB Mamoswine finally got a good move for it's last slot. Not only that, it got a move to nail it's #1 counter, Bronzong.

394 Attack Mamoswine Superpower vs 252/80 neural Bronzong (*1.5): 51% - 62%

It's not a 2HKO, but with Bronzong's lack of recovery that's a massive dent. Added kicks, Superpower from that same Mamoswine (Absol too) OHKOs Blissey.

You are not taking into consideration things like priority moves 'n such after you abuse it a bit Poliwrath is going to take a lot more damage, not to mention if the opponent gets clever and switches in something like Salamence or Gyarados when something dies.

Life Orb Lucario with Extremespeed is becoming more and more prevalent. That Extremespeed will really hurt if you used Superpower a few times...

After using Superpower twice... you'll take twice as much damage from physical attacks.

Recently I've been seening a lot of reflect/light screen users, so you gotta take that into consideration as well or Poliwrath will only be a fraction of what it could be.

Against good players you have to plan for the absolute worst and they aren't gonig to give you any slack either. Well, no offense, but running Superpower instead of Brick Break just seems reckless to me.

I think Aqua Tail will help DD Tyranitar the most out of all his sets. It is the one that needed help against Hippowdon and Gliscor, and CB Tyranitar can sometimes 2HKO with the help of a defense drop anyways.
