Skymin Discussion Thread

What the shit, Serebii. What the shit.

I'm gonna test it again with forbidden's shaymin (transferred over Pokésav...). I don't think it's going to work, but still.

"Tsukattemo kougaanaiyo."

Does anyone knows the translation to this? I don't think Pokésav importing has anything to do with it; the Pokésav-altered Shaymins I have have transformed...

"Even if you use it, if has no effect"

lol, take that glitch-mi. "Mii ni Kanshashitenai deshu" xD

edit: for those who aren't stupid enough to get my sense of humor, "Mii" (Pronounced "me") is how shaymin refers to itself in the movie, and it's catch phrase is like "Mii ni Kanshashiteru Deshu" (Aren't you all thankful to me?), but here I wrote (Aren't you not thankful to me?) sorry for stupid joke, couldn't resist.

Thanks Chou :]

Interestingly, my (forbidden's) Shaymin got punk'd by Nintendo, but Serebii keeps saying any Shaymin is transformable.

It could be a glitch, but I don't think so.

Back on topic :P

Anyways now it gets Earth Power, O_O now what? Lol I personally think it's pretty obvious that it's going to be Uber, due to overcentralizing the game (Regice/Registeel counters).

What's wrong with the Regi's getting play again? BTW I've been trying this thing out in-game. Seed Flare is amazing, but its defenses are far from impressive. Seems like revenge-kill bait to me. Besides, all of this is theory-mon, so we just have to wait and see how it goes. Bullet Punch Scizor is always there . . .

edit: ah wait, apparently without LO Bullet Punch is only a 3hko xD

How does bringing two rarely used pokemon UP into OU make it overcentralizing? Besides that argument, there are several pokemon that can take it on that are already used: Blissey, Bronzong, ScarfTran (albeit Timid). Moltres, though not used as often, can take it on pretty well as long as Stealth Rocks are not down; the same can be said of Articuno.

Don´t forget that to be overcentralizing, it needs to be basically the sole pokemon whose usage prevents others from coming into play. With all of these new additions, such as Outrage Salamence and Aqua Tail Tyranitar, I don´t think it will be as centralizing as people think.

Like others have mentioned, its defenses are lackluster and it DOES have a SR weakness, so picking it off shouldn´t be too hard.

I think people have been underestimating Shaymin-S defensive capabilities.

100/70/70 is not anything to laugh at, especially when coupled with 103/120/127 offensive stats.

Its sprite makes it look so much more frail =|

Yes, but Stealth Rocks + Life Orb and possibly Sand mean that it is going to be losing health pretty fast when it wants to hit hard and have versatility as well. Unlike MixMence, it does not have access to Roost, so it won´t be gaining any of that HP back outside of Wish support.

I'm thinking that the best set would be a four attack set. Something along the lines of:

Shaymin-S @ Life Orb/Yahe Berry
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 SAtk /252 Spd/4 HP
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Seed Flare
- Air Slash
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Ice]/Hidden Power [Fire]

Only real counters I can think of are: (Calcs with Life Orb)
Regice (252 HP/ 0 SDef; Calm) takes only 32%-38% from Seed Flare, so it has a small chance of 2HKOing with Stealth Rocks. Ice Beam easily OHKOs it. Though, if it does switch in to a Seed Flare, Skymin can Flinchax it with Air Slash, and then finish it. Yache Varients will always beat it though, 3HKOing with Seed Flare

Registeel (252 HP/200 SDef; Neutral Nature) takes 40%-48% from Earth Power, so Shaymin can't 2HKO. Ice Punch needs a lot of EV investment to finish Shaymin off before he can KO Registeel. Life Orb will finish Shaymin off though. Yache varients will beat it though, 3HKoing with Earth Power.

Bronzong (252 HP/184 SDef; Neutral Nature) cannnot be 2HKO'd by Seed Flare after the SDef drop. It does 26%-31% first time and 52%-63% the second. If Shaymin is running HP Fire then it will KO after an SDef drop. If it doesn't have HP Fire, then Bronzong can put it to sleep or it has a chance to OHKO with Gyro Ball. It does 90%-100%. Life Orb will KO it, but Yache varients have a chance to keep launching Seed Flare untill it Kos. Usually a 3HKO, but it only survives if Stealth Rocks wasn't down and he Seed Flared, and there was an SDef drop.

Crobat (144 HP/112 Atk/252 Spd; Jolly [Enough Atk to OHKO with Brave Bird]) can siwtch in on anything, though switching in on HP Ice while Stealth Rocks is out has a chance to KO. (68%-77%) Shaymin can't really do much else to it though, before it OHKOs with Brave Bird or puts Shaymin to sleep.
All other base 130 mons(and higher) are OHKO'd by Seed Flare on the switch by Life Orb sets, and OHKO'd with SR support by the Yache set.

Thats all I can think of. Notice that all (Except Crobat) are beaten by SubSeeder, and both Regi's lose to Yache version, and none can switch in safely to a Specs version, provided the Shaymin user predicts right. Also only Crobat has access to a healing move, so the Regi's and Bronzong can only switch in once, unless they have Wish support. Shaymin can also run Psychic if it wants to ruining Crobat's switch in.

For what it´s worth, Moltres and Articuno can take it on, though they are ruined by Stealth Rock. Subseeder isn´t doing much to Timid ScarfTran either.

Where's tenta?

Tenta is crying because it takes 42% min from Earth Power even with Max / Max, and yet it has no recovery.
Takes the same amount from Seed Flare, and if it's got Liquid Ooze, as most do, risks an 80% chance of having to switch out or die.

It's not like liquid ooze was the main feature of Tentacruel's popularity. Clear Body will work fine. If anything, it could create a cool guessing game between shaymin and tenta as to whether it should seed flare or leech seed xD

What about Calm/Careful Dragonite? It can use Ice Beam if it is Calm, or paralyze it with Thunder Wave. Careful variants can again, paralyze it, or hit it with a powerful Ice Punch. Light Screen/Roost allows Dragonite to provide some team support and force Shaymin-S out every time. A LO Air Slash will do 33% maximum to 252 HP / 252 SpD Dragonite with a +SpD nature, and Seed Flare does 12% maximum. With -2 SpD, Air Slash does 66% maximum, so if it Seed Flares, and Dragonite's special defense falls, it will take a maximum of 78%, not even a KO with Rocks up. That is assuming HP Fire, but HP Ice does 84% maximum, so you can afford to switch in, let Dragonite take the hit, then switch out to scout for which HP it has. Switch into Timid ScarfTran to absorb the HP Ice, if it switches, then you know it has HP Fire. Light Screen negates the special defense drop for one time, so your weaker pokemon can afford to switch in. You can Thunder Wave him first, destroying him until something slower can finish it off. Ice Punch will most likely OHKO LO variants, so yeah.

EDIT: Bronzong+Dragonite rape his shit, hard.

Regice can OHKO even Yache versions.
Where's tenta?

I didn't list Tenta, because the normal utility set gets 2HKO'd.

Regice with 0 SAtk EVs (standard) does 77%-91%. I think Regice needs 164 EVs and Modest to OHKO Yache variants. and that would mean Seed Flare would be doing even more to it.

@Blasphemy: Calm/Careful Dragonite with 252 HP/SDef, even though it has huge defenses, can only switch in on Earth Power. It can't switch in on Seed Flare do to fear of the SDef drop. Air Slash puts it in KOing rage from HP Ice. And HP Ice kills him. Stealth Rocks ruins it, putting it in a KO range from HP Ice.

Despite all that, Ice Punch does KO. I don't really see what sort of other Pokemon that Dragonite counters, but it works. I assume you want a set like:

Dragonite @ Leftovers
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 HP /252 SDef/4 Atk
Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Roost
- Ice Punch
- Light Screen
- Thunder Wave

Yeah that works, but you have to either give it Yache Berry, or make sure no Rocks are up, or HP Ice has a KOing chance.

What about a Life Orb'd Yanmega set? Can that KO with HP Ice or is that not strong enough? And if it isn't it can still sleep it with Hypnosis.
And if a Shaymin is yache'd, it can always use Air Slash, which has 225 Attack Power due to STAB + Weakness.

The way to beat Timid LO Shaymin? Modest/Timid Choice Scarf Shaymin of course! It's no counter but I bet Air Slash OHKOs itself...

Yanmega is OHKO'd by Air Slash/LO HP Ice. D: So is opposing Shaymin. Imo those aren't counters, because they cannot switch in to half of Shaymin's attacks. Seed Flare would be dangerous too, because the opponent can switch to a relatively bulky Pokemon, and the opposing Pokemon has to run away otherwise its OHKO'd.
