Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 3 (Competitive Discussion)

Personally I think everyone here needs to stop arguing about the validity of certain Pokemon with certain moves.

It's the thread to discuss competitive value, not whether or not Mamoswine could megahorn with his tusks or not. >_>

Even with Adamant? I'll run calcs later but for now I'll take your word on it.

Correct me if Im wrong (quite likely) but isnt Softboiled a Emerald only tutor?

I like using UU Pokemon in OU..

I've run calcs on it. :3

And Softboiled is a FireRed/LeafGreen Tutor. If you're going to use that set on Wi-Fi, you can just breed for it there, teach Clefairy/Cleffa Softboiled, and migrate it to DPP and pray it changes to Magic Guard, lol.

Fire Blast still does more to Bronzong, I guess.

There is no debate here; look at happymamo with its TUSKS coming out of it's MOUTH:

With Gliscor usage (presumably) going down, how do you think Hera usage will curve? I can see people using Heracross because Lucario got Ice Punch.

edit: shit that thing looks EVIL
From DP pokdex: Its impressive tusks are made of ice. The population thinned when it turned warm after the ice age.

They are made of ice, interestinig...

back on topic: I can see endeavor+ice shard may work.

It's so hard to pick out a moveset for Ursaring now. =(

That thing...just has it all good. >_>;

Why? Seed Bomb was the only notable new addition, but it struggles to find a slot for it. Swampert is the only OU Pokemon it can hit harder than anything else, but it is already OHKO'd by Swords dance Facade. Oh, and Close Combat with the punches is worth a mention I guess.

What?

A hidden move tutor maybe? Because someone could've discovered where a Head Smash tutor is right now...could they?

I think the new rotom are a very good anti-spin pokemon.

Look at the four most commun spinner:

- Starmie
- Tentacruel
- Donphan
- Forretress

I decided to take an example on Spiritomb EV for this set:

Rotom Heat
Calm
@ Leftovers

HP: 252 SDef: 116 SAtk: 140

- Thunderbolt
- Overheat
- Will-O-Wisp
- Reflect

With this, there is no hope for these spinner to beat you since:

Starmie is ohkoed by thunderbolt if stealth rock is in play
Tentacruel is nearly 2 ohko I think, but this one with bad SAtk won't kill you.
Forretress is ohkoed by Overheat no matter what EV it's running and has no business to kill you with bug or steel move
Donphan has no hope of killing you with reflect in play and Will-O-Wisp (plus you're faster) and Overheat does more than 60/70 %

This set has trouble with Dragon though, but can deal pretty well with steel/ice/water/bug pokemon.
Standart heracross take like 85% + from overheat.

I think this set/ev can be improved, but It works quite nice from now.

You should add that HP Ice can go over Reflect if Dragons are really big trouble to this set, Reflect is good for support, but the onloy spinner it helps against is Donphan, who you can hit with HP Ice for the same damage as Overheat(Its 140 BP right?) without the SpA lowering.

Yeah, but Reflect provides defense support to my team, plus it helps against pursuit and add some stamina to rotom whose role is blocking spin.

I'm gonna try all other rotom too, I wanna try a timid specs set.

I don't see why that set would have too many problems with Dragons tbh. The only FE non-Uber Dragon that resists Electric and Fire is Flygon, and most of those are physical and neutered by Reflect / Will-o-wisp, plus you can always survive the odd special hit comfortably with that special defense investment. Sub Flygon can be annoying, but they are very rare.

With Will-o-wisp and Reflect there isn't a chance in hell that DD Salamence would want to set up on you, and Thunderbolt is a 3HKO at worst.

That set is also a half-decent check on Shaymin-S with the Ground / Flying resist, so long as you don't switch in on Seed Flare. Overheat can KO a 4 /0 Shaymin-S, but needs a bit of residual damage from Sandstorm or Stealth Rock to make sure, which isn't all that difficult.

Yes, actually you're right Lemmiwinks MkII.

Another pokemon I have troubles with is Swampert (but only for the kill) since I can cripple it with WOW/Reflect while I survive with ease against his special assault.

I'm trying Wash rotom with this set, but do not seems to work as good as heat rotom from now. Even though I can kill with "ease" the other spinner (Donphan, claydol, armaldo, torkoal) I loose ability to overkill scizor (who is half of the time slower than me, forry and Metagross). I need more testing.

I'll try later Frost, Spin, and Cut rotom with different set.

I can see a great weather inducer with wash rotom rain dance/ hydropump/thunder for a good sweeping machine.

Should we open a new thread about Rotom analysis?

Lemmin if you want to beat Skymin with it HP Ice is even better than reflect, as HP Ice is a sure KO against more Hp Skymin.

HP Ice has the same effective base power against Skymin as Overheat (70 x 4 = 280, 140 x 2 = 280). HP Ice only does slightly more damage because of the way the formula works, but you still need more special attack to guarantee any OHKOs. The accuracy and lack of a special attack drop is useful of course, but not worth dropping Reflect by itself.

Yeah forgot that that it was the same damage, but then you can take on Dragons, and Donphan will get hit for the same damage too, without the drop. Reflect is the better choose, but if you have another poke(Bronzong) that sets Reflect up then HP Ice can be used.

Cut Rotom could be used for anti-spin too.

Rotom Cut
Calm
@ Leftovers

HP: 252 SDef: 116 SAtk: 140
(till now the same as Oven Rotom)
- Thunderbolt/Shadow Ball
- Leafstorm
- Will-O-Wisp
- Reflect

Yes you lose the way to hurt Forretress, but it can't really do anything to hit you. You get to OHKO Donphan and Starmie with Leafstorm, and only Tentacruel is hit harder by T-Bolt, so if you want for a really strange reason run Shadow Ball you can(no reason to do it). Forretress can be burned so it can't do much damage with Explosion or Gyro Ball.

Aquathan: Well yes you lose, with changing froms, the ability to beat those steels, but you can still burn them which makes them weak enough.

It seems that all the new rotoms will run tankish sets(ChoiceTrick would be nice, but too many got Trick that do it better now) that hits thing that it can switch into.

As for the Wash Rotom here is a set that MythTrainerInfinity posted in his RMT:

Rotom-w @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/188 Spe/68 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Will-o-wisp
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball

I tried it on the official server and it worked for me. As he himself said this is the only Rotom who can hit Heatran hard.
