love the music, and what they did with slowpoke well, also there was oemthing to do with fr and lg. What was that about? I heard the word "kanto"... I'm going to take japanese next year at school...

Man, I've been restraining myself from posting in here because I'll just be redundant.

To hell with that.

First off- the boxes are absolute works of art. I love Lugia's pose, even though Ho-Oh's face makes looks like it's being strangled. The Whirl Islands and Tn Tower in the background are a nice finishing touch.

All 493 Pokemon following you- I never thought I'd see the day. I know what the Sceptile that I've had since my first Sapphire playthrough will be doing. I'm just as interested as anyone else as to how they're going to implement Wailord and the legendaries, though....Can anyone say holy Rayquaza? Also, does anyone figure that NPCs will react differently if you have a legend following you around?

The maps look unreal. If Kanto is in this (as it seems it will be), I really hope Nintendo's designers do something to make it differnt that FRLG Kanto...other than the three year difference. That would be more redundant than this post, otherwise.

it would be awesome if they included the orange island, even though it was an entire filler saga, 4 extra gyms, and its own elite arena

They were just saying that the Rockets came from Kanto, and then showed the games.

Good God. I have not been this stoked to listen to a games soundtrack since Brawl came out.

November can't come sooner!

Who knows, maybe the games will come out at September.

And we seriously need a trailer for this game. When did the Platinum trailers were released? Was it last June or July?

Hmm... given the little icon in the corner of the fire red, I'm guessing they were referring to the gba games? I guess this means we'll still be able to transfer over pokemon from the old ones.

To be honest, outside of just playing gold/silver again, I'm hoping they get a clue and give us an honest colleseum type online battling setup, possibly with random player battles (similar in style to pbr, so nobody can complain about lude names or sayings). Playing against the computer isn't the same, even if it has a solid team, and friend codes ruin the possibility of playing a game on the fly, since you both have to coordinate when you get on to trade, battle, or whatever.

I had actually hoped they'd do this with DPP. I really hope they give us something that allows us to find random battles with opponents online, whether it be in HG and SS, or in the next generation of pokemon.

I'm in love with literally everything about this game so far.

Btw, is this coming out in the USA in November? Or just Japan? I'm confused on release dates.

November is Japan only. It's expected to hit USA around the same time Platinum did, around March or so. But that's just speculation after looking at the time gap between release dates of past games.

I wonder if anybody mentioned this before, but I believe since this Notch-Eared Pichu has its own orange pichu sprite, this could mean that even shiny Pokemon will follow you.

So, uh, about 800 sprites, including both regular and shiny sprites, total? Or is that seriously past the limits of this game?

The orange Pichu doesn't have the notch-ear. It was a Pichu given away at a special event and unlocks the Notch-Eared Pichu event when transferred to HGSS. We don't know if all overworld Pokemon will have shiny sprites or if it is just Pichu, though I doubt it is.

Finally, your estimation of the number of total sprites for Pokemon in the overworld is totally off. Even without the shiny sprites, it would well into the thousends because each Pokemon needs a side and back sprite too, in additon to walking ones and even more for Pokemon with multiple forms.

There's still room to get the requisite number of sprites in there - they only need one side sprite and a "flip" call depending on the direction the Pokemon is facing. Also, Platinum was a 128MB card but there are more games coming out on 256MB cards now (the DS Suikoden game I can't spell being the most recent example).

In fact, given that we're going to have two continents I'd bet dollars to donuts HG/SS would be on 256MB cards, or everything is going to be compressed to hell.

just wondering,

what might be the reason for not using as much space as possible?

Screw the battle frontier, that's what Plat was for. I want Kanto as the post-E4 adventure. That'd be nostalgic to the extreme.
Kanto's going to be there. Period. End of story.

Someone over at Bulbagarden noticed that it looks like they greatly improved the water animation in this game, and it might even be 3D. That'll be interesting, since water in Pokemon games has always been a basic thing.

Also, we were discussing the possibility of a weather station on the Pokegear's Radio. It'd be cool to have random weather effects pop up on routes from time to time! You could use the weather station to stay informed about them. The possibilities are endless - what if it's raining on Route 32? Maybe Qwilfish will be much more common, then, etc. It could also be used for tracking down Groudon or Kyogre, as they will undoubtedly cause upsets in the weather wherever they reside.

They probably have to have the game completed by a certain date. Using max space means they need to fill more, thus making it harder, or maybe they are just lazy, at least thats my opinion

They really need to give these games more content. As much as I loved GSC, they were fairly short, and compared to every other generation, the levels of opponents' Pokémon are significantly higher. This is probably because they tried to put too much in, with Kanto and whatnot.

This is what I'd like to see:
-Gym Leaders with higher-level Pokémon.
-Beefing up Pryce's Pokémon so that they are higher than Jasmine's. Go ahead and keep Jasmine's Steelix at level 36, just make Pryce's team tougher. If we can beat Jasmine, we should be able to beat a tougher Gym Leader.
-An Elite Four upgrade, obviously, and make it possible to have a "round two" with them. The most logical way this would happen would be to beat Kanto and then come back to the Elite Four, all beefed up.
-Make the Kanto Gym Leaders harder than the Elite Four! If we can re-battle the Elite Four, this would make perfect sense. Come on, a level 39 Venomoth?
-Make the Kanto Gyms themselves more challenging. For instance, make it so that you still have to play Lt. Surge's trash puzzle, and put more trainers in them.
-Rematches with the Gym Leaders. A system like Platinum's seems the most logical choice. I'd like to see this with the Kanto ones, as well.
-Have the Safari Zone open.
-Have the Lavender Town Radio Tower open.
-Have Cerulean Cave (Unknown Dungeon) open. This would be the only way for us to get Mewtwo in this generation.
-The plot needs to be explained more. Even though Silver is Giovanni's son in the manga, this needs to be elaborated on more in the games. And more details with other characters, please. Like Misty! I would love to have something like the Fame Checker.
-The Berserk Gene would come back as a hold item.
-Access to the Sevii Islands. I would hope to have a final showdown with Team Rocket at their wearhouse! I would imagine this would be great for the story line, as well.
-Access to the Battle Frontier. I don't see why we just couldn't take a boat to that location. No change necessary.
-GSC move tutors, with moves like Curse and Zap Cannon.
-Movepool updates for Pokémon. Things that come to mind are Flare Blitz Flareon and Entei, Power Whip Victreebel (even Tentacruel comes to mind), Volt Tackle Luxray and Electivire, along with many other Electric-types, Power Gem Espeon, Persian, Tentacruel, etc.

i predicted earlier before HG/SS was announced that they would make a game with all 4 regions. I was laughed at and told that technology wasn't that advanced. but now, kanto+ johto+ "Land to the west" (im guessing hoenn) have been confirmed, i think that theres a real chance of all 4 regions being in this. calling this right now.

Of course we'll have Sinnoh, we haven't played there since what, early 2000s?

Oh wait

EDIT: Not going to double-post because that sucks, but seems the official site was updated, and they say DM Jirachi will be given away at Wi-Fi. You just need to have a Japanese game, Mystery Gift and an access point to get one.

Don't bother. The "land to the west" is a small chunk connected to the National Park.

Edit: This is what everyone was referring to.

Arael, don't make fun of him, he was just probably referring to Orre as the 4th region. :<
