I just noticed: Obi-mode is probably the most powerful strategy that can be used. Of course, SelfdestructMewtwo is illegal. However, Rayquaza lost ExtremeSpeed. There's very few pokemon that are good for this tournament that have priority moves. Metagross and Arcanine fall to Groudon, Shadow Sneak Giratina can't use Shadow Sneak on Smeargle, and it seems only Fake Out can work out right.

Real champions roll with just a backpack. Just like Nationals. One man, one backpack, one goal.

Ha yeah! XD.

I've got a little mesh backpack that crumples up to like smallerthan your fist stuffed in there too incase I buy like shirts or something, but other than that, that little duffle bag is all I'm gonna bring.

[edit]

Yeah, I think you'll probably just see a ton of anti-weather leads. Still. I think it's waaaaaaay to early to even be speculating this seriously. We have no idea what tutors and such will be in the new games. There could be something groundbreaking that will turn the metagame on it's head? Who knows.

TR ninjask anybody? ;D

Dude, there is so much truth in that statement, I couldn't agree any more. It reminds me of the nationals as well.

Oh and 2010 vgc is gonna be wierd at the least. What were they thinking letting those power houses break free. Here I was getting annoyed facing all these uber spammers online on PBR but it seems that those are what we will have to face in 2010 vgc. At least thank god there is Rayquaza there to stop the onslaught of Kyogre/Palkia combo.

I can forsee a lot of draco meteors flying around and maybe scarf will actually become prominent.

its an advertising move to pander to young uncompetitive kids, it will make tpci money and thats what they were thinking about, short and simple they couldn't care less if its actually any fun to play

Scarf Kyogre + Orb Kingdra + Specs Palkia + LOers Vaporeon= boring easy win

...snore...

:(

How can this be fun?

"Hi! My name is Shedinja. Thanks for letting me take a giant shit on your entire team!"

So yeah, while their will be certainly be teams that will be popular (much like TR and RD are in this year's metagame), there will be plenty of counters as well. Well-constructed teams must have a solid strategy of their own as well as be adaptable to beat other common strategies.

Who says it's not fun to play other than you? Personally, I hope a lot of people do the same thing you're doing, and not enter because the rules are "gay." When it's up to chance whether you're selected or not, I want as few people as possible to enter. Uber's may have less Pokemon considered viable, but they are also much more unpredictable. There's still plenty of strategy involved and those who think Kyogre and Groudon are going to be absolutely dominant and completely ruin the game will likely find themselves dead wrong. I actually think the most dominant Pokemon (similar to how Metagross is the dominant VGC 2009 Pokemon) won't be either of those two. Of course they're both great Pokemon (especially for your team) and I will use one of them in most teams if it's stadium mode like jaa.

edit: After reading mattj's post that TAD quoted, I just feel the need to say that team probably won't have boring easy wins. Since you're using 2 mono water types, 2 choiced Pokemon, a Kingdra instead of a Ludicolo, and of all things a Life Orb Vaporeon, I honestly can't see that team even winning many matches let alone having boring easy wins.

This thread has gone to shit. Think about it!
You have the following running the game:

1.-MERRILLAND
! Do you think this guy would let Ubers run rampant?

2.-Mike Liesik
. He does things to make the players happy. He would never let this happen after JAA.

Now, TPCi and PoJ are different companys, and as such each can run things the way each one sees fit. see also the pokemon TCG scene.

In Japan, their tournaments are crazy weird. They have single elimination as a standard, and they would have play cards. if you win 2 times in a row, you get a stamp on your card and you would have to re-enter the tounament. If you got 8 stamps on your card, you where automaticly in the finals.

In the USA, Swiss rounds are standard. Not single elimination. everybody plays at the same time, instead of first come first served.

Now, people need to stop thinking that all this is offical for the USA/Europe standard rules as NOTHING from TPCi has been confirmed other than that there will be one next year.

00bers..niice remember me the 2004 Competition here were Lati@s completly rushed the game...aaah let me guess soul dew will be banned again? :D It really changes the game and i thought that Nintendo would be smarter when i read the VGC 2009 Rules..now its down to N00biness again with these 00bers...

Btw: if someone is interested i can distribute in San Diego legal Eon Tickets..just talk to me ^^ I dont search anything special just a good Dved RNGed Pokemon or breed is nice enough.

uuh ooh just one day.. I will be so dead when we are arriving just because i cant sleep in airplanes and iam a really sleepy person. haha

looking forward to see you in San Diego!!!

Thank you very much for providing some realistic perspective.

@BlueCookies - mattj was referring to Leftovers Vaporeon, not Life Orb Vaporeon. I think that Mewtwo will be a common threat, just like Metagross is this year. It can 2HKO Groudon/Kyogre with Ice Beam/Thunderbolt respectfully. It happens to have Base 154 Sp. Atk, which gives it the highest Sp. Atk of any non-event pokemon.

@ultimatedra - It would be impossible to change the rules when one country uses ubers and the rest of the world doesn't. Think about it - Ubers is so different from Double Cup, that it would be unfair to have one country (or the rest of the world) to switch to a metagame based more on offensive power/strategy.

Just so you know, if the qualifying tournament in Japan uses ubers, the rules aren't going to magically change for the American/European qualifiers. They have to keep the rules consistent throughout the world in order to have a world championship. Also, I would be very surprised if Marriland had any input on the rules. He is the head judge, meaning he enforces the rules, not create them.

I agree with this.
On another side note, what do you guys think of the non-ubers yet legendary pokemon in the 2010 WCS? Like zapdos, azelf, uxie, etc.

I really hate the trend of requiring the latest Pokemon game in order to participate in these tourneys. Such a damn moneygrab. But at least HG/SS is more different from D/P than Platinum is from D/P.

And good luck to everybody going to Worlds!

ok well people it seems that 2010 VGC is going to be ubers i am going to play in this tourny and seeing as there is nothing in my way to getting to the torunament where ever it may be im back so far since ubers are allowed i am actually extremely happy we now have Auto Rain and Auto Sun but i might still run trickroom though with auto rain it might be alot harder to set up trickroom.

this is great so much more team ideas. JAA all over again. =]

1) Has anyone actually confirmed that uubers will be legal in 2010 or are we all just blowing up about a rumor? I still haven't read any confirmation of this anywhere. So far all I've read is an ambiguously translated episode of Pokemon Sunday.

2) I was thinking about it today and actually uubers might not be such a horrible change. We've already got a whole bunch of legendaries like Zapdos and Latios and whatnot anyway. And a Scarfdos + 0spd Groudon could be a "fun" combo...maybe... Just a thought. Sets up Zapdos for either Discharge or Heatwave and allows Groudon to EQ. Could also maybe set up others for Fire attacks or Solar Beam, so that might be fun... :D

1) Yes it has been confirmed. There was a showing on Pokemon sunday (or whatever it is called) that showed a board of the Ubers that will be allowed for next years VGC. At first it was believed the board was for the legends in the game, but some people found out what it was actually for. It also leads to the fact that mewtwo should be in the game also, since for a level 50 max, there are no mewtwos out there available.

alright, sweet but for now im making my team and using them on PBR since my uber like Kyogre, mewtwo are all at lv.100 might as well test them out and also if anyone is going to do this you might have to change there move sets since Kyogre for example learns water spout like around lv.70's and i think its a lv.50 only tourny.

It's definitely confirmed: was in Corocoro, and I (sorta) translated the scan myself on top of what was already reported. I can make out that it's saying something along the lines of "Legendary Pokémon in the 2010 World Championships!" with some more stuff that I couldn't really see. I'm only just getting used to hiragana and I'm basically clueless when it comes to the actual language other than the kanji for "legendary" so yeah.

This is in addition to the Sunday stuff as well. It's a shame I guess, however it makes it easier to weed out the weaker players. With ubers you're not going to be losing to noobs any time soon, whereas if you used a setup team it's actually possible to get extremely unlucky and lose to a numbnuts 10-year-old. Not that I did lose to said numbnuts 10-year-old; I lost to UltimateUnknown who won the tournament, but still. It's better to be safe than to suffer a humiliating loss: Murphy's Law prevails, after all.

And something else: Maybe there won't be the lvl50 limit this time? While it'd make sense with the new lvl50 legends, isn't the idea for little kids to use their favourites? And isn't it obvious that little kids' favourite pokémon will have been trained to lvl100? Everyone including kids will have to get new ubers for the tournament, so this move doesn't make all too much sense if they keep it lvl50.

So this is how they prevent Rng abuse huh... So hgss pokemon only has been confirmed? I thought they might do this.us Next years metagame is going to suck. Raquaza on every team.. Well with auto weather maybe Tr teams will increase ... as long as nobody runs brave groudons. And wouldn't hgss only pokes eliminate almost all sinnoh pokes unless you traded parents over or something

It's deconfirmed (Is that a word? Because unconfirmed means it's still up in the air) actually. Was just a rumour off Serebii.

Sort of flimsy evidence really but it's because one of the Sunday hosts said he was looking forward to using the Kyogre he caught on Sapphire. They wouldn't be so cruel as to have that a red herring, lol.

No. They mean that the tournament will only be played with HG\SS, like this year's tournament was Platinum-only. You can still trade over Pokemon to your HG\SS cartridge.

At this point, it really doesn't matter to me if it's confirmed or not that we will be using Ubers. If they do a random drawing again, I probably won't be going either way. All the locations are too far out of the way for me to justify going down there to MAYBE play Pokemon with people.

Do like I did at Nashville and make a fun family trip out of it. If you get in...Yay! You get to play pokemon on your fun family trip. If you don't get in (like me at Nashville)...Yay! You still get a fun family trip! :D

I suppose that'd work.

On the subject of Ubers, I'm really not that miffed. In fact, I'm already trying to figure out what I'd be using. If Mewtwo is allowed like they say, he's obviously a shoo-in. My current idea is a Dialga/Giratina or Dialga/Lugia lead. If Mewtwo is allowed, resisting Explosion will be most important to me.
