Gym Leaders ARE stupid =(

Roost would probably be better than a base 60 STAB move early game imo. Either way if you choose Chikorita you're screwed, so a roadblock 1 hour into the game isn't much of a deal. Besides, gym leaders/rich people/E4 members use Potions, so I don't think recovery is that bad.

Let's not forget it's a level 9 Pidgeotto we're talking about. Not exactly bulky. If you want to see scary, look at Whitney. Miltank with Milk Drink :(

It's only like how Brock was horrible in Yellow (took me hours to get past him on my first play back when it came out). Plus I really hope they add some feature in there to make it impossible to just steamroller everything with a starter. I'd done that every single game, not realising how boring it was. Then I did Platinum with a Trapinch, Skorupi, Chinchou and Houndour (lol) training them equally and it was brilliant. I'll be using a balanced team this time round too.

lol... Pachirisu

one thing I had fun with beating the game was using a pickup Pachirisu(With of course, the help of my infernape. It was not a good Pokemon at all, but the items I collected at the end of the game were much appreciated.

Chikorita gets some good moves earlier in DPP than in GSC. Poisonpowder at Level 9 can be handy and Synthesis at Level 12 can be used as an easy last resort if you want to Level Up your Pokemon that much.

EDIT:

I know, I am going to do that in Emerald (yes I am going to play through Emerald :-) ), but I have to be Mr. I Need To Plan Every Pokemon I Get. All I have so far is Sceptile/Ludicolo/Shiftry/Beautifly/Dustox/Crobat/Hariyama/Other Pokemon I will rotate in that I have to think about (I even want Plusle and Minun in there).

I did the same with Meowth in FR/LG.

For all the people complaining about Pidgeotto having roost or aerial ace early game, you realize that you can catch a Geodude prior to that point right? Geodude won't take that much damage from aerial ace and learns rock throw pretty early.

Also anyone who is disappointed that Scizor and Steelix are not available before the Elite Four needs to realize that they actually are. All you need to do is Thief (Which is found in the Mahogany Team Rocket Hideout) a magnamite (who can be found outside Ecreautek) and you can get a metal coat.

Pokebeach posted some images of the stat screen and they noticed something: There's a stat in blue and a stat in red. Perhaps they're signaling how natures work?

Who really knows? At this point and time, all we can do is scrouge and gather the images; then we try to understand them to the best of our ability. Unfortunately for myself, I speak not but a small ounce of Japanese (and I'm awful at reading it), so it wont really matter to me that it is out in September. I have to wait till 2010 :(

But, at least everything will be getting an overhaul. Ideas for new Key Items?

Oh dear, the Pokemon sprite being on the left and the stats on the right is going to annoy me for weeks.

You got something wrong there.

And I prefer it that way. I always used to get annoyed with the old Summary - Why do they invert the sprite and put it on the left? Just leave it to the right and throw everything to the other side, at least it's consistent :/

I like the new dex view. Very nice. And the nature colors are awesome. Oh, Serebii updated saying you could squish the Apricorns with ApriCusher to make juice to give to your pokemon to raise their athletic stats in the PokeAthlon.

Pretty much.
Well at least its better than the Pokemon DDR that the Sinnoh contests were. I hope there will be new ribbons, but I don't know how DPPt would respond to that.
Speaking of ribbons, I'm guessing that the Johto Champ ribbon will be the same as Hoenns.

The way I see it, the PokeAthlon is partially an new take on the Contests, and partially a throwback to the old Kid's Club games from Pokemon Stadium 2, where you could use your own Pokemon in the minigames.

I actually really want to try some of these, something I couldn't really say about the Contests.

Haha, whoops.

It's probably just me being used to the previous format. Though I do appreciate the fact that the Pokemon sprite isn't inverted, it just doesn't feel "right" after over 10 years of the old summary view.

This could be exciting stuff actually. If natures are going to be "exposed" EVS might become somewhat visible as well. That would be great!

It's worth pointing out that the TVs in Platinum occasionally give information about natures (e.g. that a particular nature is +Speed); so there's a sign somewhere that the game developers want people to understand how natures work better. Putting them on the stat screen is a logical continuation of that.
