The other team being a rain dance team minus rain which leaves makes me think of only mirror b and his dancing companion ludicolo.
Haha! I saw Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness gameplay footage for the first time yesterday when I was at my little cousin's and I'm so glad I got your reference because he happened to battle him while I was over.

I don't think it has been confirmed yet, and if so, then RNG'ing Darkrai will be useful for VGC 2010.
That's if Darkrai is even allowed, a lot of the time Event Pokémon are still banned, and we could only be allowed to use the Legendaries from HG / SS anyway.. we'll see. But even then, only the Ranger 2 Event Darkrai will be much use, as that's the only Darkrai that can have Dark Void at level 50, assuming they keep the level 50 limit. Good job I still have one of those that I haven't resetted for yet.

Sure. English or Japanese? I'm going to get the Japanese wondercard in twenty minutes.
Oh awesome, could I get both if possible? I can't give a great deal in return due to me not having dug into the RNG yet. But I can can probably give you a Level 50 Dakrai with Dark Void from Ranger 2 if you need one once I figure out RNG and reset for it. I'm also getting the UK Regigigas on Saturday 22nd so I can give you one of those, or if you collect Events I have a lot of others too. If you don't, I can just look for some good Pokémon on my carts you may want.

So,Weavile have FakeOut and IceShard with Nature:Jolly (i heared)

right?

ist that only for japanese players?
It has Fake Out, Ice Shard, Night Slash, and Brick Break. It's Item is Focus Sash, and it's at level 30 in a Cherish Ball with the Classic Ribbon. I'm unsure of the set Jolly nature, but I'd imagine that's correct too.

Um who won the championships?

Kazuyuki Tsuji won over Tasuku Mano in the finals. It was a pretty good match though. Mano won the second game with a friggin Shedinja. Tsuji was probably the most animated player there. Mike made everyone do the "Kazuyuki Cry", involving a sort of constipated look, clenched fists, and... "KAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" His favorite pokemon he used was Toxicroak, which he combined with Empoleon, Snorlax, and Salamence for the final game. Hopefully a video will be up soon.

Mike did NOT do that. mike was not on the stage.

But, the announcer had heard us all yell "KYAAAAAA!" every time a crit or hax happened, so he decided to play along.
-BTW
The games in the semi finals and finals where VERRRYYY Hax'y. Freaking crits/Par/frz hax going on left and right.

Were the battles recorded? love to see em

Several people recorded the matches, including TPCi. expect them in the morning/monday.

The staff where out to dinner last i saw, so i believe that the GREAT job they did at worlds deserves a nice dinner and sleep.

It was a fucking awesome weekend.

KYAAAAAA!

hey i was wondering if i could get the weavile too donut or anyone else thanks!
(also if anyone has the milotic)
also i cant wait to see the videos

Was there plenty of opportunity to trade with random people? Shoe tells me he traded with one of the Sunday presenters (!!!) for a Magnezone, and that his pickup shiny Aipom is on TV, I assume Sunday also. Anyone else done trades like this? Shoe definitely isn't a BSer.

I know, but I was wondering if anyone knew what the Pokemon prize pack contains. If you take out the DSi, that's still $300ish worth of prizes.
For the seniors, the top 4 got Empoleon handbag things which I don't know the contents of, and all the other competitors got Skymin bags. These had, that I can remember, an inflatable ultra ball, a lot of TCG cards from the Frontier set and uh... I can't remember the rest. Less than I thought but it was decent stuff. Shoe also bought himself a "Battle Dictionary" that he used to trade with some Japanese people, I think. Oh yeah, and Shoe was cruising around the venue with your brother and Sadman, Wichu. :P

I'm really looking forward to VGC 2010 anyway. I have this really off the wall set which I'm pretty sure I'll use. And I'll be doing my best to make it to Hawaii. Hopefully there'll be more regionals next year, especially in Europe. Having only 2 people from each country (or none with poor Spain) and only one national qualifier is kind of disheartening. I had to work hard to persuade my dad to take me down to London for the weekend, and not everyone is lucky enough to have parents who're willing to take time off work and spend a lot of money to do that. This is likely to do with why London only got 132 attendees, most from nearby, though I know of people from Brazil (!), Northern Ireland, Ireland, Bristol, Halifax (myself), Manchester and Kent that were there. It'd be brilliant if there was a regional system in place for Europe- even two regionals, one in for example Manchester or Leeds/Bradford and one in London would be excellent. As long as there were more UK representatives at the worlds, of course. 4 representatives in Seniors and Juniors for each European country would be great. This would also combat an issue seen in the Paris qualifier: only one Frenchman got through to San Diego, because a German had to cross the border due to not enough German places at San Diego. He then won Paris and probably annoyed some French people. Kudos for winning I guess but it still highlights the lack of European representation at San Diego. Spain was a travesty also, with regionals and everything but no actual San Diego places. I think the Spain qualifiers were organised by someone other than TCPI (Nintendo Ibérica iirc), but having no San Diego places was a joke. Any random guy in Paris could roll out of bed and get exactly the same reward as the Spanish champions. Australia and Canada could do with some qualifiers too, seeing as they're some of the most neglected parts of the world when it comes to gaming. Australia qualifiers would be ideal in Perth, Sydney and Darwin off the top of my head with nationals somewhere nice like Cairns. Haven't been to Canada though so not sure about that. Either way, the tournament would be so much more fun and probably more commercially viable if it's expanded in Europe. With some regionals and a bit of advertising (really really low awareness in the UK, just go on Serebii and basically nobody knows what the VGC is), this could be huge.

Oh, and something else that just occurred to me: on that board that they showed on Sunday, with the 9 legendaries, Giratina's in its origin forme. Oversight or on purpose? I'm thinking oversight, though it would be really nice to have him useable.

What? Why are you singling out John Michael Freeman?

The final won't be a video number, it'll be played on Pokemon Battle Revolution.

Speaking of video numbers, I recorded the match of my first match with Shoe, 36-03894-05640. I thought it was a damn fine and close match, well worth watching.

My girlfriend speaks Japanese, and pointed out I was the US national champion to the visiting host of Pokemon Sunday, just as he was finishing an interview. So now we're probably going to be on Japanese national television.

And the U.S. vs. Japan score is not settled yet. She also talked to Japan's national champion, Takahiro Akai, and now we're going to battle tomorrow after the tournament.

Yeah I saw the highlights Omega, thanks for informing me, real shame it was on PBR, I guess pokepress or some others might have recorded the 3 games as I'd love to watch them. :)

*Goes off to watch shoe vs omega*

Oh and I cannot wait to here the NC vs NC battles go. :D

I want those/that weavile too but I don't really need it as I don't have anything to offer anyway.

Well, I got back late last night from San Diego. I barely caught my train, it was literally 12 seconds before it left and I had just stepped on the train when the conductor said "Doors closing, last call for oceanside", so I got really lucky there. >_> It was really fun meeting all of you guys, especially team Germany(drug_duck, picollo, marcel, ViPER, Fatum, etc). They were a cool group of guys and great battlers. batpig, Fish, zerowing, alakapimp, PROFESSOR mysteryman(:P), mattj, mingot, vash, 616, Tay, and everybody else was really cool. Glad to have met and chilled with you. :) there was a smogon.com picture taken of everybody that was there, so once a few people upload them from their cameras I'll edit it in here and probably others will post it as well.

Batpig, hahaha, I really hope you upload those pictures we took with Pokemon Sunday and it's hosts(yes, Pokemon Hitler guy and the other one). :P For those who don't know, Pokemon Sunday is the pokemon TV show in Japan. Well, they were just walking around. batpig's brother and I got in so many shots of the show, I hope somebody can record it so we can watch it. XD

I should also probably clear up a few things that you guys seem to have been discussing while Worlds was happening.

First of all, both alakapimp and I talked with Mike Leisik about next year, and he says that he does not want the style of play to change; that is, he is going to try and fight that next year, in the USA and at Worlds, to keep the play similar to the way it was this year; most legendaries, like Groudon and Kyogre, banned. So, basically the same rules as this year. Now, this does not mean that he will succeed in getting it this way next year; we still might see it being with most legendaries being allowed. Mike does not like the way the Japanese will be doing it, so there is still a good chance of it being with ubers, but you should at least know that there is somebody, one of the higher ups, fighting against the inclusion of ubers.

So you guys need to stop worrying about the RNG and to "hopefully crack it before the Japs do...which is imperative for us to take a VGC victory in the name of Smogon!" because it's not anywhere near official for the US and Worlds. >_> Plus it's not about "the name of smogon" IMO, it's about each individual who was competing there in the past few days.

Now, to the actual tournament. :)

As BlueCookies said earlier, these were the final records and percentages of the VGC Swiss rounds on Friday.

(lol I blinked right as they took this <_< )

So, as you can see, USA had 2/4 top 4 and 4 of the top 8. We did have more players as a whole than Japan did, so it only stands to reason that we have a better chance of having more top competitors because of Swiss. I would like to point out something though, there was apparently an issue with Grace Beck. Chris Tsai was apparently telling her what moves to use and pretty much telling her what to do. In the semis Chris Tsai was caught telling her what to do somehow and was forced to be in the back of the room away from the competition. I didn't see when he was caught as I was in the elevator, but I heard it from quite a few people that were paying attention. So you be the judge of what happened.

The top 4 teams were 3 rain teams/rain team variants, and then one "sand" team. One was Ludicolo/Vaporeon (that was the one Grace used and Chris "directed". The winning one was Icy Wind Empoleon and Toxicroak leads. For the record, the team that had Shedinja, it had Sunny Day to eliminate the Sandstorm and to reduce water moves for the Rhyperior that was also on his team. The fourth team was Rain Dance Zapdos and other stuff. For some reason, Izuru Yoshimura (the creator of lv. 1 Smeargle strategy) was not there for the competition. I have no idea why, so don't ask. :P

Well, from what little I've been paying attention to this anymore, looks like Japan is in the top 2 again. Conspiracy anyone?

=/

It's not a conspiracy. They are just flat out better than we are as a whole, any honest player can tell you that. There was no conspiracy here, just like JAA(though the latter part is for another argument). You can clearly see via the website how each round of Swiss went. There just is no conspiracy, except "the conspiracy that there is a conspiracy". So just accept it.

The greatest part of the entire VGC part was when it's the second final match for seniors. One guy is down to his Shedinja against Empoleon, Toxicroak, and Snorlax. Sunny Day is up, and Shedinja uses Shadow Sneak and it crits Toxicroak and KOs it when it wouldn't have otherwise. the entire place went nuts when that happened, and since Empoleon and Snorlax didn't have any moves to hit Shedinja, so he won. There were a bunch of people recording it, so you should see it pretty soon. I took a few videos also of Swiss rounds, with a few Smogon battles at that, so look forward to those in the coming days.

I got autographs from Masuda and Kawachimaru. Ishihara's line was pretty long and the senior VGC finals were starting so I just skipped him. I had gotten his autograph last year anyways in Orlando, so it didn't matter as much if I missed him. Here's a picture of me and a picture of batpig with our autographed swag:

There are bigger versions on the official go-pokemon.com website if you are wanting bigger versions. Just go to Day 3, and then the Pokemon VIPs update. ;)

@zog = Mike Leisik said that he would try to add a stop or two in Europe more than this year. I doubt there would be more than 2 in any country outside the USA, since that just really wouldn't be as viable or as efficient. I also really doubt that Autralia would get more than 2 stops, since it's the people are either on one side of the country or the other. Sydney and maybe one other city, like Perth, one for each side. It's not like there are oodles of players in Australia or Europe, but just enough players to have a few qualifiers and for it to be getting most of the good players. I agree that Spain should get a qualifier for it, and that's probably one thing Mike Leisik is going to change. I don't really see 2 or more stops in a country as small as England to be happening. Look at the USA, we only get 6 stops and we are a lot, lot bigger than England or France, both land size and population size.

Ok, so, lol, that was probably the second biggest post on Smogon I've ever posted. :P I found a few pictures of myself and the others on the website that I'll resize and post for you. I took a few videos with somebody else's camera, so I'll upload those when I can.

So does this mean we will not be able to use Kyogre and Groudon for next years VGC or what?

Did you actually read his post? It means that the snippit showing some of the Legendaries being used in VGC 2010 is by no means finalised. There's a chance Mike may be able to convince them to change it, but we also can't bet on that either. Until the rules are officially announced for next years tournament, we just can't know. So if you're looking to start getting Pokémon ready in preperation, you'll have to take both sets of rules into account and build a team for each.

Hey! Cool idea here:

How about...

National championships in the UK, Spain, France, Italy and Germany, the five European regions with their own Nintendos and game translations. Each national is treated like a US regional, with 4 qualifiers from each country. These qualifiers then move on to... a European continental championship which is treated like St. Louis. To be held somewhere like maybe Strasbourg, which is nice and in the middle of everywhere. The only country which'd be quite a way off would be Spain, but hey the Spanish winners got paid trips to Paris so Strasbourg wouldn't be too much further. And then have the top 8 or so at the European championship qualify for Kona. This would greatly improve the European representation at the Worlds and make it more fun for everyone: from what I've heard, San Diego was a ridiculously fun week out and I'd love to go to the Worlds myself and have more fellow Europeans share in the experience. Europe is, after all, a great Pokémon hub. Almost everyone I know plays Pokémon (though few show off about it), and one of the biggest Pokémon fansites (Serebii) is actually based in England with Filb/PokéWiki being German and PokéLord being French. There's a Spanish site too but I can't remember which it is.

In short, it'd be so cool if this happened, and while it's probably already been discussed within TCPI, I hope they at least consider it next year. Oh, and for you lazy skimreaders, I'll point out again that this is all just an idea, not what is actually happening. :P

Oh, ok thanks Havak. Well, I have a handful of VGC Ready pokemon. About 2 1/2 boxes full. Im just wondering because I didnt know if I should start developing uber VGC teams yet. But, I will still train ubers and stuff.

I do in my bag, I wrote down a few of ones that I had battled on the side. I'll go get them in a bit and then post them. After mostly every battle the Japanese players uploaded their videos so I know there is an influx of battles on the Battle Recorder wifi, so I would check it out there first.

also, the finals were on PBR, so there won't be any battle codes for those. Some of the competitors might have battle codes of their actual battles they had, so we'll just have to wait until they all get home in the next few days and wait and see if they post some of them. :P
