Thanks Naxte, this will surely help me out:D

Edit: Is there an IV calculator for the 1st and 2nd generation games or can you figure out the Ivs yourself based on your pokemon's stats? If the latter is true, how would I go about doing that?
For your edited question, I simply use Net Battles team builder. It's simple, I'll explain. When you go to the team builder, you can have an advanced setting (it technically says 'expert') to change their DV's/IV's to a lower speed, for example: Curseing Machamp in 2nd Gen would want 1 Speed DV. What I do is, I scroll down to the stats that match my Pokemons, and it'll tell me exactly what DV it is. I only do this for both gen 1 and 2, as there are tons of IV calculators out there for gen 3 and 4.

There is another DV calculator out there, although it's probably outdated now.

Its on Geocities, which is going down soon if it isn't already.

www.geocities.com/thelegendarydogs/

Look for "DVCalc". If Geocities is down, I'll email you the program itself if needed.

Using it is simple. Simply enter your pokemon details, use a Rare candy in game, and then enter the updated stats. Repeat until you've found the DVs.

Unfortunately, it does require a large amount of Rare Candies (more than you'd normally get ingame, anyway), but you don't need to save your game after using them. It also works best on either max-Stat Exp trained Pokemon, or untrained Pokemon.

Does anyone know where i can find any old competitive teams? Like when espyjump made its first appearannce etc.? I recently got all my freinds into pokemon but theyre all too poor to get d/p/p lol

Look in this forum for RMTs. Some of the older ones can be helpful.

Additionally, there are RSE analysis on site.

Since this is the last generation to apparently have the feature, I thought it would be appropriate to ask here.

Does anyone know exactly how the Gym Badges effect your stats? It's said that they increase your stats, but how much? Where are they in the damage formula for Generation III?

I'm curious because Gym Badges apparently don't effect your stats in Generation IV.

EDIT:

Alright, so I finally got Pokemon XD a few days ago. My concern is this: how far in the game do I have to get before I can trade between it and my GBA games? I thought there would be an option to let you do that as soon as possible, but I don't see it. (Maybe i'm missing something...) And of course you can't trade Shadow Pokemon, right?

Avoiding Spoilers as much as Possible, you have to face off against Shadow Lugia and the person controlling it before you can trade Pokemon (AKA, beat the game and see the credits).

Trading is done in the Pokemon Center in Phenac City, just like in Colosseum.

About pokemon XD: Can you transfer pokemon from GBA games, and put them on ANOTHER GBA game? Like, using pokemon XD as a storage game of sorts?
For example, if i caught a moltres in FireRed, can i transfer that poke to XD, then transfer the moltres from XD to my emerald?
@ Misdreavus, they were from toys r us. Also, im pretty sure the save file is stored on flash memory, so replacing the battery shouldn't delete your file. I could be wrong though.

What are dv's and what do they do in terms of your pokemon's effectiveness? Every time i try to look them up on google it takes me to some page on how EV'S work.

thanx

the odd egg, it has 50% of being shiny. I want to reset incase it isn't shiny, is the shinyness (and thus the IVs) and species set when you get it or when it hatches?

If it's not transparent green like in the picture below, then it is pirated

Just to let you know, that game's fake too. I have two real, store-bought copies; one is US, and one UK. The real cart's sticker is different:
It's printed on a special, 'holographic' sticker, similar to those used for shiny cards in TCGs. In fact, it's pretty much the same foil used on the promo legendary birds and alt. form Rotom cards.
The background is silver and blue-green, not green and yellow. The blue-green and silver have a kind of 'streaked' effect, not just a gradient between them.
The corners of the sticker are less rounded (i.e. the radius of the bevel is less) than in your picture.
And finally, I can't really make it out well, but your cart's ID code seems to be AGB BPCE USA. It should be AGB-BPEE-USA (with the hyphens).

10% increase (rounded down) to the relevant stats; it's only applied in-game, and doesn't show up in the Summary.

Yeah, you can use it to trade between games if you don't have 2 GBAs :P
how and where do i catch deoxys on emerald
Birth Island, only accessible if you have an AuroraTicket (event item).

What's a good in-game team for beating Emerald but still being able to Battle Tower later? (i.e. not using 1 time TMs, catching 1 time Pokemon, etc etc).

I have down:
Swampert
Swellow
Maybe Gardevoir
Any other suggestions?

Stats: Yes, maxgene pkmn are exceedingly rare. The standard remedy for this is to use a Gameshark. It's not illegal, it just allows you to do in five minutes what could take five years or more of shark-free play. I highly reccommend it; nobody wants to go to the safari zone and catch several boxfuls of Tauros, Chansey, etc.

Sand-Attack: Actually, this is a normal type move. RBY does have a few other nondamaging moves that will fail due to type: Moves which cause poison won't hit poison types, and Leech Seed can't hit Grass types.

Critical Hits: Actually, chance for critical doesn't depend on how much faster or slower you are. It just depends on your base speed, the move you're using, and whether or not you've used Focus Energy.

Surfchu: Just use Pikachu, the ubers, and the legendary birds. Absolute cake. Or if you're strapped for time, or have previously gotten surfchu fair and square and don't see what you would gain from doing it the long way again, use the gameshark.

Amnesiaduck: It is rather gratifying to fill Stadium's Hall of Fame, but if you're making a competitive team and don't have time for such tomfoolery, just use the gameshark =].

Netbattle: If you choose to use this simulator, bear in mind that Toxic/Leech Seed/Burn will not work in combination with Wrap/Bind/Fire Spin/Clamp =[
Does PBS work?? I tried it and couldn't get it to work but that was back when I had ghetto internet...

Holy crap, special and physical aren't split by type anymore?!?!?!

Well, here's my question: Does anybody know empirically:
1) how the slots at the game corner work
and/or
2) how the safari zone rocks/baits work?

And here's a better question:
I'm making a linkbattle team. I have constructed half of it, and thus far I have determined that the most dire threat to my current half-team is Tauros, but ONLY a Tauros with Horn Drill/Fissure, Earthquake, a STAB move (duh), and an ice or electric move. What's a good counter to such a Tauros?
But it's more complicated than that. The teams I build are a bit novel. For this team, I'm not using any paralysis or sleep, and I don't use more than one of any given type unless I feel I absolutely must in order to make the team halfway competitive. The types I already have are psychic, electric, normal, and flying.
So, given my self-imposed restrictions, what do yall think I should use against said Tauros?
One thing that crossed my mind: Hitmonchan?!?!? It can use Agility to circumvent Horn Drill/Fissure, it can 2hko Tauros, and barring criticals, Tauros needs Hyper Beam in order to 2hko Hitmonchan, into which I will naturally be ready to switch something that can survive it so as to catch the bull with its pants down. Plus Chan can do the switch in/Counter trick.
Opinions?

When does FireRed and Leaf Green generate the IVs and nature of your Jhoto Legenday?

According to the FR/LG Legendaries guide here on smogon...

"The second way the legendary G/S/C trio is unique is that their nature and IVs are set upon fixing Celio's Machine on One Island"

I believe that's referring to the ruby and sapphire being in place and working.

What are dv's and what do they do in terms of your pokemon's effectiveness? Every time i try to look them up on google it takes me to some page on how EV'S work.

Simple explanation: they're the Pokémon genes, and represent the maximum Stat a Pokémon can reach. Higher the DV, higher the Stat can be. Since its GSC, every Stat have their own DV, except Special Attack and Special Defense always have the same DV (so it is called Special DV). Every DV is random calculated when a wild Pokémon appears in the battle, except the HP DV, that is calculated based on the other four DVs. The DV can be a number between 0 and 15. A Pokémon with all DVs equal 15 is called a TOP Pokémon, but those are very rare (the probability to found one in the wild is 1 in 65536).

If you want a more detailed explanation: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/DVs

TBH, the odd egg has a 12,5% chance of being shiny. The IVs and the Species are set when you get the egg, so you need to save the game before pick the egg. Also, the Attack IV of this Shiny is always 2, and if the Pokémon isn't Shiny, all the IVs will be always equal 0.

Can anyone do me a huge favor and find my ID and SID? I think it involves pokesav but I'm not sure....
I'm doing it for emerald shiny legendary purposes.

This will require you to transfer one of your Pokemon to a 4th generation game and then trade it to someone who is able to do this.

Once you transfer the Pokemon, try posting in the SQ/SA thread in the Wifi forum.

Question about the breeding guide

I'm not sure if this belongs here in this thread, or in the DP section...but I have been starting out on some of the processes put forth in Smogon's breeding guide to get Dittos with flawless IVs in various stats.

The guide posits a process that goes something like this:

-Get Synchronizers with each nature
-Catch Magikarps with flawless IVs, one for each stat
-Use the two aforementioned sets of Pokemon to catch a Ditto, one for each Nature / IV combo
-Use these Dittos to breed, multiple passes of Dittos in fact for each stat that you'd like to add to your desired Pokemon.

My question is this:
Why not breed the flawless Magikarps together BEFORE you use the flawless IV Magikarps to catch a Ditto? If you use two Magikarps with two different flawless IVs, you have a better chance of breeding a single Magikarp with two different flawless stats, and can thenceforth catch a Ditto with two (or more) different flawless stats.

That single Ditto can then be used to breed Pokemon with flawless stats, perhaps abrogating the need to make multiple breeding passes with multiple Dittos to achieve the same effect. Magikarps hatch VERY quickly, so doing lots of Magikarps to get a multi-flawless-IV Ditto seems like it would save time in the long run, potentially.

Does this make any sense? Of course, RNG manipulation abrogates the need for any of that whatsoever, but I neither find this compelling nor admirable...I like the breeding aspect of the game; it's a game in itself.

Oh, ok. thanks .Maguss. So basically insead of Iv's like in RSE, they're dv's that calculate the stat( with a max of 15 instead of 31) thanks for the help

So right now I decided to take a rerun through Hoenn (Ruby). I also decided to make it a monotype Fighting. I have not played in so long, it's starting to show in my playstyle as I fail and whatnot.

I just defeated Flannery and here is my team:
Combusken Lv.30
Machoke Lv.28
Hariyama Lv.27

I don't know what I need to add to my team, as I'm sure Hoenn is low on Fighting-types. XD
I'm thinking a Medicham?

Right now the information is a bit unorganized.

What guide are you actually talking about?
