#1 - Is Custap Berry implemented on Shoddy Battle? Maybe I'm just stupid, but I can't find it.

#2 - Would something like that work:
[You're in a bad situation. Gyarados has a DD, your counter is dead and your checks are weakened, so they can't take a hit any longer]
You have a steel/rock/ground-type (something immune to SS) wearing a Custap Berry. Can you endure on the Waterfall, kill and outspeed it? Or Am I misunderstanding the mechanic of Custap Berry?
[As example: You have a Ramparaods (lol) with Endure/Head Smash/EQ/whatever. Obviously you can't outspeed Gyarados and Waterfall will kill you. You endure on the Waterfall (no Gyarados will DD/Taunt against Ramparados) and outspeed it with the help of Custap Berry]

#3 - Does something like a "speed calculator" exist? I need it for the purpose of creating new movesets. I always get a headache when I'm testing how much speed I need to outspeed certain Pokémon. (PS: I know the link to the speed tiers, don't post it).

Thank you.

1) It's not yet. It will be in SB2.

2) That would work fine.

3) Not really. You sorta have to use your own calculations. It's basically just add one, subtract from the minimum speed stat of the Pokemon you're using, then multiply by 4. If you're using a positive-speed nature, add 1, divide by 1.1, round up, subtract from minimum speed stat, then multiply by 4.

hi, im new here so i dont know if there is a thread on Ev's please let me know where, otherwise i have a question. Im unsure as how they (EV's) work. Is it better to start ev training at lvl 1 or can it be done at any lvl. my goal is to max stats at lvl 100, so if i start ev training at lvl 1 is it better then lets say starting with a captured wild pokemon at lvl 25, for example.

Any level, as long as you max out the EV's before you reach level 100.

Body Slam, Double Edge, Dream Eater, and Mimic are the only ones I think. None of which are likely to be used.

Then I don't think so, unless they're RNG-ing some other Pokémon and decide to go for a Lati@s at the same time.

About Little Cup, how do people EV train their pokémon and still keep them at Lvl 5?
Like, giving your whole team exp share or something? =)

Yeah, make sure the Pokémon you're training has Pokérus, give it the EV-boosting items, and battle Pokémon that give barely any experience.

The Smogon damage calculator has the information for the posted sets of Pokemon built-in, so you can probably use that to pull up the Speed stats for the most common sets. You can edit the Speed stat (EVs, IVs, even any boosts and the base stat if necessary) as well for further testing if you want.

Wow, I had no idea it did all that. I'm going to go mess around with it now!

EDIT: This thing is AWESOME.

Would it be easier to relevel pokemon after breeding or would it be easier to grow all the berries necessary to clear the EVs out of an already leveled pokemon (not 100 obv.) and then EV train it?

More of an opinionated question I guess.

Is Metronome an effective counter against Wobbuffet, since it's absolutely unpredictable and can't be screwed over by Encore?

Also, where do you find Leftovers in Diamond version? I have also sorts of rarer battle items that I don't remember obtaining, but no Leftovers, lol.

No, metronome is not an effective counter. It's not an effective move in competitive battling for that very reason: you don't want to depend on something absolutely unpredictable for a counter, especially not in Ubers.

You buy Leftovers at the building in front of the Battle Tower.

EV berries, unless you have access to a lot of rare candies.

Well if you breed the Pokemon you're going to get different IVs and nature on the baby.
The best option might be to clone the berries, depending on how easy you find cloning. Otherwise, growing them shouldn't be too hard - after all, berry growth depends on time, so it's just plant, a few minutes watering now and again, and then harvest. It may even be possible to change the DS's clock to accelerate things, but I'm not sure if it gets detected.

I think Metronome's probably too likely to pick low-powered moves, which are liable to get countered/mirror coated eventually, or else Wobb switches out and the Encored Metronome isn't able to do much to the switch-in.

In Platinum Leftovers is in the cave that runs east from the last room of victory road towards Route 224 (which leads to Seabreak Path and Shaymin when you inlock the event). You get a partner the first time you go through the cave.
You can also get it by Pickup on something above level 81, or on a wild Munchlax (but they're almost as hard to find as Feebas)

Is there a convenient list of Tank-type Pokemon anywhere here on Smogon?

I haven't seen an official list. Here's a list of a few bulky Pokemon you should look up here for potential tanks:

Articuno
Blastoise
Blissey
Bronzor
Chansey
Claydol
Cloyster
Corsola
Cradily
Cresselia
Deoxys-D
Dialga
Dusknoir
Forretress
Giratina
Heatran
Hippowdon
Ho-oh
Kyogre
Lugia
Meganium (If you run Leftovers, Leech Seed, Protect, Body Slam, and Reflect / Light Screen / Substitute / Synthesis)
Milotic
Miltank
Muk
Regice
Regigigas
Regirock
Registeel
Shuckle
Skarmory
Slowbro
Slowking
Spiritomb
Suicune
Weezing

I'm just talking in context of use against Wobbuffet specifically, not the rest of the Ubers. It's a fun move, but you need more than luck to win in competitive, I understand.

You see, this is the strategy I use with my Mew on the Wobbuffets in Stadium II all the time, since it made prediction impossible. The Wobbuffets were either forced to switch, or left weak enough to safely KO with Fire Blast. With newer Generations though, I see it's not as effective.

Do I have to do something first? It's not there when I check :/

I wouldn't mind forcing it to switch, since I could then switch the Encored Pokemon out, I believe. You have a point though. With the new moves out now, there's a higher chance to be Countered/Mirror Coated than in G/S/C. I used to do it in G/S/C and didn't know how it would fair in ADV.

Thanks. I never went there so it's no wonder I didn't find it. I'm guessing it's the same for all versions then. Thanks again.

Crap, sorry, I told you wrong. In Diamond/Pearl, it's in the Victory Road after you get the National Pokédex (meaning it's somewhere in the tunnel to Route 224).

It's still not something you want to depend on, since Wobbuffet can come back and trap/encore/tickle/KO some of your other Pokémon if (and when) Metronome fails you.

i have an easy question if i had HP water would it be powered up in the rain (and the same with HP fire in the sun?)

I believe so; since the game considers those water-type and fire-type, respectively.

Is it worthwhile to put Wide Lens on SubBounce Gyarados with Aqua Tail over Waterfall?

The accuracy increase would raise Bounce to 93.5% and Aqua Tail to 99%. The downside is that you don't get the Liechi Berry boost or the Waterfall flinch. Worthwhile or not?

Hey guys, getting back into pokémon after a while, and I researched which games I wanted to play so I bought fire red, emerald and platinum because they seemed to have the most legendaries & red was my first game.. but I recently found out that you have to have event tickets to get some of the cooler legendary pokémon(thought they would just be catchable through storylines at the end of each games...). I have both the dsi and gba ARs but I don't want to use them yet because I feel like it would ruin my experience of "catching them all".. even though I wanna be competitive. Is it possible to get these tickets/codes through merging records online or through online stores (or are people willing to trade them for non event pokémon) still or am I SOL?

And if I am SOL, if you use the ARs to warp to the locations of the event legendaries will the pokémon be legit in wifi play/cartridges be fucked up?

Thanks, and sorry if this post is breaking a rule:pimp:.

You don't need Event pokemon to be competitive; most of them are Uber anyway. The most useful OU ones are Jirachi and Latias.

The Wifi trading mechanism means that you can trade with anyone you can find online who is willing to trade; to use the GTS you need to have seen the event pokemon you're looking for.

You can use AR to hack the Event, e.g. Secret Key, Oak's Letter (rather than warp to the location) and the pokemon you catch will still be considered legit, no damage to the cartridges (as far as I'm aware).

Yes, HP fire\water are boosted by sunny day\rain dance respectively.

No, I'd still prefer waterfall's flinch rate and leftovers recovery, especially if you're using substitute.

When abusing the RGN to breed shinies (have 5 pokémon, save on a grass that has lvl50+ pokémon, etc), do the parents of the shiny I want to make have to be in the party with me, among the 5 poké? Or can they be in the PC? This is relevant because if I can pick species/parents after I see the list of natures with the RGN reporter then everything becomes that much easier... thanks!

No matter what pokemon you have in the party, as long as you have exactly 6 when doing the happiness jumps. It can be any 6 pokés (eggs don't count as pokemon!). You are free to search the PC for the ones you want to breed even before or after you do the jumps and flips.

@StarWizard: Aslong as you can have access to them after doing all the taps/flips, they're fine. DON'T leave both in the daycare. You can keep one in, but it doesn't work if you already have both parents in the daycare.

For those of you that play Ubers, could Giratina (altered forme) be used as a special wall? I see on it's analysis that it only really focuses on Defense over Special Defense, even though they have the same base stat. Just wondering because I'm about to abuse my Platinum one, and I was thinking about a Calm HP Fire one, and wanted to know before I caught it if it could have any use. Or is this just plain stupid w/ all the special attackers in Ubers?
