Just to end the confusion on that numbers thing, the matches are 4v4, but you can have a team of 6. You don't need it unless you get to a match where it's best out of three (as far as I know, the only one is the VGC Championship match, but I didn't get far enough in past events to know). It's really so that you don't use the same 4v4 setup two or three rounds in a row against the same person.

However, it really doesn't matter in the rounds when its just one match since that's the only time you'll play the person.

Anyways. As for this setup:
kyogre / dialga / latias / kingdra / toxicroak / ludiclo

I'm still not the best at teambuilding, but it seems like this could fall to a quick RD team (which would have an easy job here since you are running a Rain Dance team, as well).

I was originally going to have Palkia on my team but switched in favor of Kindra and ended up having Mewtwo as my other Uber.

I used a Toxicroak for a while on Netbattle, and found he just got killed too easily by random stab moves. 25% healing from surf just isn't enough really, because so much out there can OHKO him, and he's usually at least 2HKOed by anything that hits him.

I guess he'll be better with Kyogre around, but that also means some more powerful attackers around which just won't let him stay alive for long.

watch a vgc some time
you focus sash him

Tell me what teams Toxicroak counters... Zog's point is perfectly valid and in addition it is too slow without Icy Wind support. Of course, if you manage to lure your opponent's Scarf Kyogre into Water Spout, this is where Toxicroak really shines but believe me, he's really what can be called a two-sided blade... just think of Groudon teams, of Hail teams which easily circumvent the Sash or just of the Pokémon he's set up bait for because he deals no damage to those (CM Lugia, CM Giratina, even if you taunt them they will eat you alive).

As for your team I recommend using Rain Dance on one of your Pokés, preferably Kingdra, because your team really falls apart if you don't get the rain and with starting RD manually you can rectify this. Also, don't forget including a way to kill Shedinja.

I thought Water Spout was a banned move for Kyogres in 2010 VGC?

First Kyogre has Waterspout in HGSS at Lvl 50.

Second, HGSS offers level downwarp so you can use your Spout Kyogre from Emerald at whichever level it learns Water Spout there...

Toxicroak's not powerful enough to go sashed; without life orb he loses a lot of KOs, namely on Azelf/Gengar/weakened Mewtwo with sucker punch (from experience here not calcs). I've watched a huge amount of VGC battles... even used Toxicroak myself... and yeah he hasn't really been a big player in any battles.

Also it's a very good idea to have a rain dance user as well as Kyogre. Weirdly nobody seems to be using weather moves so it's a good plan.

I spotted an intriguing strategy from Japan actually: scary face in trick room, using it to 'speed up' your partner. It was part of a really impressive battle which I might post the code of later.

I dunno why people aren't using weather teams as much, if what you are saying is true, unless they are afraid of Air Lock from Rayquaza (which can be taken out quite easily if Kyogre wants Drizzle in effect and has Ice Beam).

I'm still confused on the Ambipom thing. I watched more videos and saw him pop up again and again for some reason.

Just thought I'd relay for everyone, PBB's found that the TCPi website will be under maintenance until the 11th. So we probably won't have rules out until at least then.

Helps to have a date to keep in mind, anyway.

Ahh, makes sense.
Now you will be seeing similar teams because people wont think out of the box when Ubbers are available to use.

I dunno, I doubt anyone will avoid taking the opportunity to use any Ubers. That'd be stupid. There's a high chance that you'll be seeing the same RD teams, same Sunny Day teams, same Hail teams, etc etc.

It's really going to come down to how each Pokemon is individually trained...and if someone decides to be a dick and use Shedinja and their opponent can't counter it (though they can run time out or just be smart and use at least one fire or ghost attack, lol).

I hope that's WHY they're updating the site!

Don't expect any rule changes. The rules will end up being exactly like Japan's because they'd have to run the same rulesets for the World Finals when the players of the countries meet up. They wouldn't allow one country to use ubers and another not to.

my rain team is kinda like Tsuji's team where it doesnt need raindance but it can also run it on the field so an example would be.

Palkia
Mewtwo
Ludicolo
Toxicroak
Snorlax
Shedinja

You don't know for sure. Over the past few years, the TCG has developed, US and Japan run different system/formats but when we're at Worlds, we still follow one format.

HG/SS auto level downs everything to level 50 in the wireless battle room, so you can use them in the VGC this year (if we get the japanese rules).

This, and can people stop asking that same question? >>

Its for my Pokemon account stuff for cards, premier ratings and orders etc

God damnit. There was hope for a second there... It bugs me that they haven't said anything yet. How do they expect the US or Europe to finally get first place over the Japanese if they don't even tell us the rules?

They don't care and actually where exactly is the problem to just prepare for both rulesets? The Japs knew the rules 3-4 months in advance and it will be similar for Europe and the U.S. assuming the ruleset comes out in February and the Qualifiers/Regionals are in May so there actually is no such thing as a real advantage which the Japanese have.

Haku, you will face problems without the rain, even if you get it up manually and what purpose for the team does Mewtwo serve? I think it is better to replace it with Kyogre to get your rain up and for dishing out damage since Mewtwo will rarely have the opportunity to really deal damage.

Why should they(or anybody else) expect someone from those regions to get first? It's not their goal to give the USA or Europe an extra push so we can 'overcome' the Japanese. Their goal is to provide a player friendly tournament and to have some fun.

-----------------

I really think that the rules wont be out for another month at least(yes, a change of the mind lol). Let's take a look at a few things:

1. While I know that last year was VGC's 'first' year as a real event(VGS was kind of an experiment imo but I suppose you could still count it as the litmus test), I feel that the rule announcement timeframe will be similar to VGC 2009. Platinum was released March 22 and the rules were announced in early April(I would assume the 6th-8th they were released and we found it out on the 8th, but it's in that timeframe). That's about two weeks after the release of Platinum that they were announced, and then about 7 weeks from release to the first tournament(May 9th). So, if VGC 2010 followed the example set by USA VGC 2009 rules, HGSS will be released on March 14, the rules and stops will be announced March 28-30, and the first stop will be May 1st or May 8th.

Now, they could always follow the Japanese rule timeframe, which means it'd be sometime in February that we would get the rules for a May-ish tournament. It was about three months beforehand that the Japanese got the rules for their tournaments.

2. I know we all want the rules(I really, REALLY want to see the dates and locations, in addition to my hope that the lottery entrance method has disappeared), but Mike Liesik said in that one quote: "We likely won't have tournament rules for VG ready to go until the end of this year."

This may sound nitpicky, but he said 'likely', which doesn't mean it's guaranteed to have the rules ready to go by the end of the year. Plus, even if he had them ready to go, that doesn't mean he will release them. I wouldn't really be surprised if he and the other TPCi bigwhigs were sitting on them until closer to HGSS' release. Then they can announce the tournament officially and then HGSS are released shortly afterwards, which leaves potential for higher game sales. It makes total sense for that to happen, it's a business after all.

When I woke up Jan. 4, I immediately went to pokemonvgc.com and go-pokemon.com and expected the rules and locations to be there. After thinking about it for a while though, I realized that my expectations were misplaced for an early January ruleset release.

Now, if MIke springs the rules on us in a few weeks, I'll definitely be surprised. Maybe it's better that way. :P
