Battle frontier for one BP.

Actually, that's PP Ups. It's a good deal though, it's only 3 PP Ups to a PP Max.

@CrazySnorlax: PP Maxes can't really be found infinitely - you'll have to find them in-game, and trade from other games. My suggestion is to clone them in Emerald, and mass migrate PP Maxes from Emerald. But if you have the BP of PP Ups, certainly get them there!

Oh boy, the VBulletin glitch is back, and now it took over page 32.

Anyone else having a bit of trouble designing a goodstuffs team against Rain teams? I keep running into trouble of finding something that consistently stops Kyogre, and also serves of use outside of that. Sorry if that's been discussed already. ;^^

Over the last several years, Pokémon video game tournaments have grown ever larger. Last year, the first official Pokémon Video Game World Championships were held in San Diego, California, and they were an amazing success! Players from all over the world came to show off their gaming skills. But the event was more than just about competing; everyone had a great time meeting and playing with other people who share their passion for Pokémon!
The Pokémon Video Game Championships will fire up again in Spring 2010. Be sure to check back later for more details on the tournament series!

It's all good buddy :> And too be honest, Rain isn't all that vicious if you have a little knowledge of the effect and a dash of creativity. Basically what i'm going to be doing is taking out the rain before it can even start up. Not to brag or whatever you'd like to call it, but Ludi + Aboma is the perfect rain counter. Although it's mainly Abomasnow who is the counter, the combo itself walls kyogre. and basically, Any pokemon who can learn Seed bomb or Wood Hammer and has over 92 Base Atk with at least 60 speed can easily counter Lead Kyogres, as it is a garenteed OHKO, almost a OHKO with Rindo berry activated. so basically, to counter rain, run a different weather, such as Aboma, or someone like Golduck or Rayquaza to cancel out the weather bonuses with their abilities.

As for someone who consistently counters kyogre, Abomasnow is the best option right next to Quagsire. Another really cool idea would be Rayquaza + Pinsir with Mold Breaker which would very nicely cancel out swift swimmers abilities, along with Drizzle being nullified by quaza.

In the end, keep your mind open and creative and you'll come up with multiple counters. Hope I helped some.

^^Absolutely. The reason why Abomasnow is on most of the Japanese teams (as seen on wifi) is because of its ability to hold its ground against Kyogre. He can take most hits that come from Kyogre and his seed bomb, is the bomb. ( Pun intended) With Kyogre's semi-abysmal defense, seed bomb will put a major dent into him for sure. From what I've seen from the videos on GTS, most Abomasnows force Kyogre into switching, so that can be exploited if given the chance.

The bigger problem is if Scarfkyogre doesn't lead but something specifically designed to counter the couters, e.g. Dialga that resists almost all of their moves bar Blizzard (and doesn't even take too much damage from that).

But yeah, the lead game is really just a coinflip so Aboma can be seen as one of the best counters to Kyogre.

HG/SS Europe release date: March 26. So i suppose that this year here we'll have the same ruleset as the rest of the world xD

Last I checked, the Frontier had HP Ups, not PP Ups.

Just wanted to point that out, since I honestly doubt Australia's ever going to get this kind of thing so I have no reason to post here really.

The only other way to garner some PP Ups, if my memory serves me well, is that you could win it as a prize in DPt's Lotto drawing in Jubilife, if any of your 'mons match up to 2 numbers in the drawing, as well as through Pick-Up from a Lv. 81 or above 'mon (3% chance at Lv. 81-90, 5% at Lv. 91-100).

this is probably old news but im still wondering about it. what happened to MOLF in 2009 VGC ?

also who really cares if people are going to be spamming Rain and Sun teams didnt we have the same problems back in 09 with trick room teams being spammed but still water teams were doing better over TR.

More priority attacks were used, negating the effectiveness of level 1 Smeargle. And a bunch of anti-trick room measures came about.

No rain team won a regional for seniors, and a bunch of trick room teams did. At worlds, there was only one pure rain team while others were just designed as rain counters. Trick room because less and less effective throughout the season and by the time Nationals and Worlds were played the metagame had changed into a sort of anti-metagame thing.

seadraDS has posted the tourny battle in tiba for vgc 2010
Oh, nice! I'd like to see that. Chiba was a couple of months ago yeah?

Actually does anyone know of any Japanese sites that are similar to Smogon? The only Japanese sites I know are Pokésho (basically an artwork site) and Pokéani (sort of like Serebii), but nothing like Smogon. Seeing as I can't find any fairly high-profile Japanese competitive battling sites and the kinds of guys that go on it, I'd imagine they go on 2ch. Which seems a pretty good guess to me. But either way if someone knows of a site I'd like to go on it.

There is no Japanese equivalent of Smogon. They have many blogs and mini-sites and such, but nothing even remotely close to the size of smogon.

Yeah, thought so. Seems a kind of Japanese internet theme really- the only big website I know of is 2ch. There has to be a commonly-accepted tier list in Japan though, surely?

No, they don't have Smogon-like tiers. They use Nintendo tiers when playing doubles and singles.

Which is the right thing to do, no one except Smogon cares for a metagame they created themselves...

I know from Micuat, with whose name some of you should be acquainted, that the best Japanese players use closed communities for their discussion. That's basically the same as we do here :D

Damn...seems like my goal of getting far with a Rain Dance team was sort of dumb.
??? Why? Excelent typing, great stab. Kyogre has it's Base stats in all the right places, etc, etc...

I just won what probably was my funnest battle on PBR so far. Should have recorded it! xD It was this new lead auto rain team versus some 2010 team with a Shedinja on it. Currently, the only poke on my team that can hit shedinja is Toxicroak with Sucker Punch (will be changed :P). I creamed all the other pokes on his team, then killed my Kyogre off with my Palkia spamming surf, then brought in Toxicroak at the end when Palkia was about to die of toxic poisoning/confusion damage. As I expected, he tried to stall me out/make me waste all my Sucker Punches/kill me with confusion damage (toxic doesn't affect toxicroak lolz!), so I just spammed Bullet Punch/Fake Out/Cross Chop till he ran out of Confuse Rays and Toxics and HAD to attack me! Then I Sucker Punched twice. Game over!

Just said that to say it IS possible to do well with a well thought out Rain team. :)

This is such a dumb argument. How DARE members of Smogon want to play in a fair environment (as fair as Pokemon can get, that is)! Seriously, does it really bother you that some people want to play the game differently than others? Just let the people who want to play singles in the Smogon fashion do so, and let the people who want to play singles/doubles in the Nintendo fashion do so as well. Nobody should feel the need to bash the other side, because they are simply playing the game in the way that they most enjoy. There is no "right" way to play Pokemon. I know many people who only play Pokemon in-game and never battle competitively. Does that make them any less of a person than me? Absolutely not, it just means that they have different tastes than me, which is not a problem at all.

Anyways, I've come up with a few ideas for teams, but they are all probably really bad and unimaginative =/ Oh well, hopefully I can scrape something together come tournament time (provided that I can actually make it to a tournament this year).
