Final Grades/GPA thread/School/University Discussion

If you're doing all nighters in high school, you're doing it wrong.

Last year as a sophomore I caught pneumonia. Out for 2 weeks. When I got back: baseball season had started, AP classes started speeding up, and my hobbies became more and more time consuming (cubing is my cocaine). I pulled back-to-back all-nighters (without coffee) and still didn't get all the work done. Last October I was in Slovenia and had 3 presentations on the same day. I didn't know the language very well back then. I pulled 2 all-nighters in the week leading the presentation day. And I never touched the caffeine.

I have no idea what my grades will be because I don't know how they count foreign credits. A semester abroad was tough, but well worth it. Anyone thinking of going abroad should do it. Now I have 4 AP classes, baseball starting up, a job, and a cubing hobby that just won't die. I have to be prepared for all that in a week. More all nighters on the way. Builds character.

If you're doing all nighters in high school, you're doing it wrong.

If you're doing all nighters in high school, and you're not doing them because you have 10 billion extracurriculars and barely enough time to touch the desk, college will not be fun for you.

High school never had more than 2 or so hours of work for me.

Unfortunately I do. On Tuesdays I get home at around 10 from band and clubs. Usually it's around 7 I get home.

All UCAS stuff through now. I already had conditional offers to study History and Politics at University of Sheffield, Southampton, UEA, and Leicester. Now got the last one through and was rejected from Warwick, but don't mind that much since I didn't really want to go Warwick as much as Sheffield anyway. For all of them, but Leicester, they are AAB to get in and I'm on AAAB from last year so am on course to get the required grades.

I'm definitely going to be accepting the Sheffield offer as my 1st choice and then Leicester as my reserve. I just need to ensure I do well in the Economics Unit 3 Exam on Friday. The English Language one on Wednesday isn't so important for me as I only need AAB so getting a great grade in that isn't of too much importance compared to Economics which I am on an A atm and would like to stay high to ease pressure in the Summer. History and Politics I would have to muck up extremely badly to not get A's (on 192 UMS Politics, 182 UMS History) so I should be fine for getting the grades as long as I keep working =)

Snap. Though the past papers are all fairly generic and formulaic. Just think I need to do a past paper or two the night before since I've done like a shitload of revision in class time.

Just finished with straight A's for the 10th consecutive term, I am pretty proud of myself! Yet, this term is going to be tough since I will have some AP classes.

Where do you ever have more than 2 hours of homework you can't do in advance?

Math= Teacher spends the entire class teaching. I'm in the higher level class (even though I'm technically not supposed to be)
Chem= Teacher teaches for 45min-1 hr and the rest is study time aka goof off and watch youtube vids.
History = Sleep. Its a wonder I'm still passing.
English = We talk about literature. No homework here, but we actually have to pay attention because the teacher says lots of crucial things we need for essays and commentaries.
Physics = lol. Sleep, do some work, goof off.

Usually I only stay up when there's a huge deadline looming. Otherwise, I'm in bed by 11 or 12. This is one of those deadlines. Extended Essay, two math tests, two chemistry tests, two physics labs, one philosophy paper due, English exam, English commentaries, and more in two weeks. =/

By "do in advance" i mean "not due the next day" / "you learn the material and know the assignment early enough to do it"

It's not like I slack off everything til the last minute. Otherwise I'd be dead. No I do homework everyday and review at home after I get home. The only times I've done all nighters (mind you, the only two in my life were in the last week), was when there was lots of unforseen stuff to be done, such as my essay suddenly jumped 500 words above the limit, and stuff needed to be added/analysis needed to be changed. Plus, with all my other stuff, I'm not going to get to that til late night. So you may think I'm irresponsible (and sometimes I am,) but when it really counts, I'll do whatever I can, including stay up all night, to do the best quality job.

Just found out I was top 5 in my class (ranked 4) for the Midterm that pretty much determines your mark. Kinda disappointed, two marks away from a 98, (got a 93), and the second teacher was being a hardass so he took marks off for notation.

On the other hand, I fucked up my chem lab again, so now i need a hundred percent on my midterm to get a 7 in that course. sigh.

Eraddd, you have some suck ass IB teachers

Well, they probably teach at least. Physics kids (like me) need to do 3 IA's before March (when my school is gonna turn them in). Plus, HL kids (like me) need to teach ourselves one whole option. Woo

I also kept my grades up this semester which is nice! My third quarter is probably my most difficult though.

Anyway, has anyone started applying for Scholarships? I'm definitely late here, I've only applied for one small one. I'm having a lot of trouble finding ones that apply to me (white, male). My grandpa is a veteran which opens up some ~__~; So yea, if anyone feels like sharing scholarship applications I'd really appreciate it!!

Also, how are AP Tests? I haven't taken any before, and I have Psych and Chemistry coming (on the same day, yea!) If anyone has tips for those too it'd be cool.

Indeed. They do teach, but I find some of them pretty damn arrogant, which pisses me off to no end. My math teacher told one girl that she would fail her class, when she wasn't close to failing (she was around a 70 or so), and told her the only reason why she was in the class was because of parental pressure from her dad (which was far from the truth).

I just finished my design lab write up on my birthday (fun), on some bullshit experiment. I just made some shit up and going to hand it in. I seriously lost all my interest in math physics and to some extent chemistry, because of my teachers. I just don't give two shits about the subjects anymore.

Oh and I found out that I didn't need a 100. I needed a 104, which pissed me off to no extent, because the midterm wasn't even compulsory, and I could have spent my time doing my TOK essay which I can't write because the instructions from my teacher is so convoluted, and I forgot all my TOK terms from last year. Sigh. And it's due tomorrow. It's going to be another all nighter for me.

Anyone can get A's without AP or IB classes. One AP/IB class? You should be ashamed to have less than a 4.0. Hell, I have 4 AP classes right now (US HIstory, Physics, Chemistry, Calculus BC), missed the whole semester (exchange), came for the finals to see where I'd be, and ACED THEM ALL (well, History was a 97% because of my essay-writing skills). But I worked my ass off for 5 months, doing double work (Slovene school and US school). Try THAT on for size.

Unfortunately I do not have a 4.0. My chemistry class was a bitch last year and I learned more than I ever have in a class, but the tests were insane and not curved (one test's average was 13%). Still 89.5% both semesters isn't bad for a teacher who doesn't give A's.

You sound arrogant. Everyone is not made equal. You may be gifted intellectually, but guess what? Not everyone is. You sound like those close minded arrogant students who think they're the top of every shit. Seriously, cut the ego.

Wow, you're a dick. So you're smart, congrats. I am too (1500 on the SAT, 4.0 in high school, 3.75 at one of the best universities in the nation (Georgia Tech)). I can do calculus in my head when I'm drunk. But that doesn't give me the right (or even the desire) to try to lord it over people. That makes as much sense as someone who is really good at basketball saying "You should be ashamed you can't dunk a basketball."

I'm no help on the scholarships; luckily I live in Georgia so I get the HOPE scholarship as long as I keep above a 3.0. The AP chem test is a BITCH. Not sure about Psych, my high school didn't offer that.
