Most Generation PRNG Help / Information

You are very correct. your picking this up alot quicker than alot of other people so I doubt you'll have too much trouble with it :)

Cheers. Just been reading through the various threads and tutorials and its not *that* hard a concept, theres just a lot of variables to consider. Obviously once the spread is set I can run/fly/whatever as much as I like until I catch it? Seems the hard part will be actually getting there!

Thanks for your help.

Is there a HGSS RNG tutorial or guide anywhere, that doesn't involve save states or roms or anything? I didn't see one on the front page.

No there is not, why would there be? Game Freak obviously are not going to make the RNG as exploitable as DPPt were. After all, ALL methods of consistent frame advancement in DPPt are inconsistent here, such as stepping/turning, as well as talking to pokemon, radio detuning as well as a lack of a journal to jump frames, not to mention random phone calls advancing the frame as well. If you erroneously think that the HG/SS RNG is so exploitable that you can do it on your DS, fine. Waste hours upon hours of time until you come to the same conclusion that I have, that barring emulation the HG/SS RNG is too difficult to exploit.

Earlier Today I tried to RNG abuse a Pichu with SpD and Spe IVs of 31. I know I hit the right delay since my coin flips matched those of the seed. My Target frame was 14, so after I subtracted 2 for Pichus monster frame I flipped to a "caught Pokemon" page in my Journal 6 times. However, after I sweet scented and caught the Pichu its Nature and stats didnt match up with those of my target seed.

So I checked to see which frame I actually did hit in the RNG Reporter and somehow I landed on frame 15 instead of 14. I've reached my wits end as to how I did this. I have no wandering Pokemon and I took no steps. The only thing I can possibly think of that advanced my game to this extra frame is that my characters pose changed when I did my coin flips.

So I guess my question would be, how did I reach frame 15 instead of 14 when I was RNG abusing for that Pichu, and how could I avoid missing my target frame in future attempts? I'm in the Trophy Garden if that helps.

If that is the case then I don't understand why Pokemon obtained in that way are accepted here, since it is apparently impossible to do it in a legit game cart. I thought that was the line not to be crossed, trading-wise at least. I'm not some anti-hack advocate, I'm okay with the DPPt method, because it is possible to do without any external help. This just seems to cross more over into cheating is all. I thought I had heard of people being successful with breeding using a real game, but I guess I was wrong?

Haha someone has his panties in a twist. HG/SS is very exploitable on game cart if you have the patience.

I never said it was impossible. I said it was extremely difficult, due to a lack of consistent frame advancements. Obviously there are people here who have performed it on the DS, but it takes a long time to do it, for example mattj claimed here (http://www.smogon.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2337227&postcount=12107) that it took him two days to RNG Raikou. If you want to spend inordiante amounts of time performing it on a DS fine, but expect things to routinely not go your way. On the other hand, I see no issues of legitimacy through emulator use. As long as it passes the TPCi hack check it should not matter where it came from.

Who said it was impossible? Just because some folks can't do it, it doesn't mean nobody can do it.

MattJ has been abusing RNG on an original HG Game cart since the japanese game was out. Rename Card just abused two shiny flawless Hidden Power Ground Wild pokes in two days, in his original game.

It is not cheating, it is hard work. If you want to do it, keep in mind that it IS a lot harder than Platinum, there IS NO consistent way to advance your frame that will work all of the time. There ae NO garanties that you won't go crazy in the process.

If you still want to do it, you'll also have to research, using the RNG Research thread, how to do it, since no one is willing to write a guide so far, with so little known about the frame advancing techniques for HG/SS.

And when I RNG on DeSmuMe it takes under an hour for 1 pokemon. Which is quicker? It is already obvious.

Ok, I was just trying to find out if anyone has been successful enough with it to write a guide or anything, and whether it was feasibly possible. Two days doesn't seem too awful to me honestly, I could deal with that.
Thanks for answering my question. I've just been out of the loop because I haven't checked this thread in more than half a year.

Anyone could do it in DeSmuME. Like I said before, for me it feels almost like cheating, since you are looking inside the game's internal memory to know which frame you are right now.

I wouldn't do it like that, even if it was the only way. But I won't criticize who did it. It's only my personal taste of liking the hard work of RNG Abuse, instead of the easy way of Pokesav, like most of the folks in my country usually do.

If I took shortcuts to RNG abuse even easier, I would be no different from them.

I just don't like when you say you take less than 1 hour per poke, like you are doing something very special in being so fast.

Should'nt that be the point of this thread, to make RNG abuse accessible to everyone regardless of skill level or commitment? And cheating, compared to what, knowing nothing about which frame you are on? It's like being blindfolded. There is a difference bewteen the two, Pokesav edits the code, emulation/RNG abuse merely examines it in a readable manner. And should'nt RNG'ing be able to be done quickly and efficently? If playing for inordinate amounts of time to achieve something so meaningless such as a desired pokemon, which by the way most users on here will probably have RNG'ed anyway, then why do it in the first place?

I think you will find that the purpose of this thread is to help people do it on a cartridge. I believe speaking of roms and emulation is actually forbidden.

I've been abusing a real Japanese game cart since the day it was released, without an AR, and I can abuse a wild pokemon or legend in about an hour so don't say its too hard or takes to long, just learn how to do it properly. Or are you just bitter and jealous that even us Aussies get the release before you so your stuck with nothing but a rom for now =P
