np: UU - Rain Drops Keep Falling on my Head

Yeah I forgot Rampardos doesn't get Rock Head (really GF? >_>). I used Stone Edge. It was a long time ago, give me a break. Rampy isn't all that slow either, as far as the lead position goes, since it's still going to outrun defensive Uxie and everything below, and probably 2hko them.

Well, Adamant Rampardos can't beat min Speed Uxie. (It maxes at 215 while Uxie sits at 226). I don't really ever see Uxie that don't run max Speed anyway.

I used Jolly, since if it gets Tricked a scarf it makes a very good revenge killer later on (outrunning everything up to 110+, compared to Adamant's 95+). This was a meta when Missy was super popular, so the ability to smack it around with Earthquake was nice. And plenty of Uxie run less than max speed; some even run Relaxed for a slower u-turn.

Sorry but I can see their reasoning here. That would be the ultimate insult to Aggron, outclassing Aggron in nearly everyway as a faster RP that can DEMOLISH teams. It would incredibly annoying to deal with too.

Well, I mean, they stuck a Pokemon with the second highest base ATK in the entire game (higher than bloody Groudon) and gave it such abysmal stats everywhere else that it's in deep NU now. They gave Aggron Head Smash with HGSS, they should have given Rampardos Rock Head too. At least they could have trolled us by giving it Pure Power or something...

Aggrpm has the Steel typing and can take a hit, making it a much, much better Choice Bander than Rampardos could ever be. Its also gonna have a much easier time taking a priority hit and setting up. Plus it can be cool and run SubPunch, or SubRise and stuff. I think it might even be the other way around; Aggron would out class Rampardos.

Aggron is actually defensively naked. It's poor Special Defense stat means that it's dying from a STABBed Special move with decent power (guaranteed if it's super effective)

Physically, he is also naked due to Earthquake being EXTREMELY common. Furthermore, those who lack EQ also have a fighting move.

Sure, it's weak, but it can come in on something it scares decently, setup a Rock polish (outspacing the entire metagame) and sweep.

Rock Head + Head smash is devastating.

I'm not sure where I would see a use in Scarf Rampardos, lead or not, when Pinsir does a much better job in general, with X-Scissor / Rock Slide / Earthquake and either Close Combat or Stealth Rock in the last slot. OK, their typing is different and Pinsir is SR weak, but the speed in paticular is huge for a role like this. Pinsir outruns every non-scarfer with Adamant, but Rampardos can only just beat the Ghosts (Froslass and Missy) at best and still fails to beat Ambipom, Raikou, Swellow, Sceptile and Dugtrio. Alakazam too, so the lead doesn't even have a chance of flinching. Pinsir also has STAB Bug for the more reliable 2HKO on Uxies, has more physical bulk + Fighting resist for taking certain priority attacks, and has the option of Jolly to get the jump on RP Torterra and others.

Only downside is you have to be more careful with your spinning. But the comparison is pretty much irrelevant anyway, Rampardos is a terrible scarfer and there are much better options.

EDIT: oh yeah, forgot about Electrode on the Adamant non-scarfer bit. I'm so dumb.

Scarf Rampardos with Head Smash is a sight to behold. Play it right, and you can get a couple tough targets down before you succumb to recoil damage. And nobody expects Head Smash on a Rampardos because of the recoil thing, so you get a bit of a surprise factor. It can also use EQ to devastate enemy Weezings.

Doesn't Weezing Levitate? @_@

I've never used Rampardos, and don't think I've played against one very often either so can't comment.

Is it me, or has Rain teams taken a massive decline in these few days?? I'm seeing nowhere near as many these days, and just a week or two ago they were everywhere. It looks like the metagame finally adapted to Rain, and people can longer score easy wins by playing Rain, so they go back to tried and true teams like Froslass/Moltres/Swellow/3 Fillers.

To be honest you played me like 3 times with different variations of my team (which include my usual four Pokemon with two sweepers mixed around).

I'm still seeing rain but it's not as common I guess.

personally I don't think I could bring myself to playing rain right now, since for me that's very much a strategy that maximizes winning at the cost of lowering how fun it is to play. I don't even think teams right now are especially adapted to it... it just seems like not many people want to use it.

Yeah, I'm noticing how rain's popularity has diminished lately, which has given me some leeway to experiment with other ideas. I'm still milking Froslass for all she's worth, but everything else is up for debate. Mixed Sceptile has been an absolute god, and runs through teams like madness. Of course, this is with Spikes support, but Froslass makes it so damn easy that hitting 2-3 layers every match is no problem (whether or not I can get three is usually a coin flip). Every sweeper in UU is broken with auto-Spikes lol.

I think I'll do a team around Pinsir next...I've always liked that stag beetle.

Agreeing with whistle. I still use rain occasionally (I was using it to teach someone the basics of rain teams the other day) but it's just so goddamn boring. It's much more fun to troll the ladder with Jynx.

Delibird for sure!

(If you are looking for a bit of effectiveness try out Ninetales, CMEntei, Jynx, Agility-Kingler, Sharpedo-Lead, CBSlaking or CB/LO-Tauros)

been playing a lot of UU this past week and there really isnt a metagame I can quite grasp yet like the OU metagame where I pretty much know everything about it that doesnt involve gimmicks. I have been running stall because I like to see what offensive pokemon are capable of taking down a stall team and hoping to get a better idea of some potential stall breakers that doesnt involve moltres/swellow/sceptile/raikou + spikes.

I havent seen RD at all, and the few times I tried to use it on ladder I got owned pretty badly. Partly because of me playing bad and also that people are developing powerful defensive cores that are pretty hard to break. Froslass is a pain to deal with yet easy to handle at the same time, its ability to lay down spikes and the fear of being destiny bonded is annoying but whatever. I also tested a moltres spikes stack team without a spinner and it still did a lot of damage regardless of taking 50 percent coming in.

I really like this UU metagame so far its a nice change of pace from OU but I think moltres/froslass might have to be looked at (I honestly have no opinion on these two pokemon quite yet because they both have pros and cons)

I think rain teams saw a surge in popularity because of the rain thread and the need to gather logs as "evidence", but after that since it is rather boring, people just stopped using it ...

Am I psychic?
Anyway rain is still as powerful as ever, it's just excruciatingly boring.

I've never had any problems with Froslass if I run an antilead. Ambipom can do a fast Taunt, and something like Sharpedo can 2HKO with priority, leaving a single layer, and a bulky spinner like Donphan can get rid of the single layer with ease. So how is it that people use Froslass so effectively? I've never seen Froslass as free spikes for my opponent so much as a free kill for me (I'm being genuinely curious here).

This is why people use non-lead Prolass. It can come in on a lot of stuff and Spike up, particularly if your lead (ScarfSaur, for example) can incapacitate their lead with hate on Lass.

Traditional SuicideLass is definitely not quite as good anymore. I like the aggressive variant though.

The only lead froslass I would use is the anti-lead one. Otherwise, just use bulkylass outside of lead, its so much easier to get spikes up when you switch it in on something that cant do anything to it or has to switch out. One thing I've found to dislike about the UU ladder is there isn't enough people on. I just lost to some guy who counter teamed me because I beat him the last three times =/.
