Right I would like to discuss the move encore.
This move is usually not seen that often because it has had terrible distribution, but it could, with all the people spamming protect be useful in the regional and nationals.

Possible viable user's of this move(in alphebetic order):

Alakazam - Fast, hard hitting pokemon with inner focus, thought i dought it'll be used much due to the uber's over shadowing it

Clefable- Could be used as a last pokemon support

Infernape- Most people will predicit fake out, so they protect, then you could abuse encore.

Jumpluff- Very fast encore in the sun, althought it probably has better things to do.

Minun/Pulse- Yes you may as well be saying lol but this is where I got the idea. they can run a very cool support set with helping hand.

Poliwrath- A lot of toxicroak's will probably overshadow him but he still could do a very good job with all the rain running rampert.

There probably will be more viable mon so if you want to look at all the encore users help yourself

All of those Pokemon have better things to be doing, including not being in VGC (or in Minun/Plusle's case, not being used at all). The thing about Encore is you probably won't be surviving the onslaught of attacks to use it effectively without getting killed after using it once. I'd rather use a team slot for something more useful.

P.S. Encore is blocked by protect. Infernape won't be able to do as you say.

I saw someone run Encore on a Togekiss. They were running the standard TR leads, and while the enemy was expecting Follow Me, Togekiss used Encore. Encore could also work really well in stopping TR users (i.e. Dialga). I'm sure Encore can prove just as crippling in the VGC as it is in Standard play if you find a good Pokemon to use it.

And it is possible to lock a Pokemon into Protect, it just takes some prediction and surprise. Say turn 1 Kyogre uses Protect. On turn 2, if your encore Pokemon is faster, you can Encore Kyogre b4 his second attack, resulting in him being locked into protect.

No, you can't Encore through Protect, but I beat Japan's national champ by Encoring his Metagross's Protect and locking him in. It was his last two Pokemon and he couldn't switch out.

I think you should add Palkia. It's an unoriginal idea, but the combo of Palkia + Kyogre is one to be reckoned with. I would replace Gorebyss, mainly because of higher stats in everything except defense, and Palkia can still operate outside of rain if something were to happen to Ogre.

You can still run Latios, even w/ Palkia and Ogre, because Latios isn't considered "uber" in the VGC.

Yes. Probably one of the best for the US VGC: http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67839

I like the idea of using Meta in the rain. It's clever. In rain, he only needs to worry bout Groudon, who isn't much of a threat because of Ogre, Ludi, and Palkia.

ahahahahaha, +1 for that post! I wish you would have kept that team a secret though, it was doing so well for you.

haha, I know. I'd be stupid if I didn't have other teams I can rely on though - the one I plan to use for Nationals will get a public debut on Saturday. :)

Can a legal hatched pokemon that has been made shiny through an AR and leveled up with rarecandys be checked and found illeagal??

The thread is tl;dr, but I'm curious on the level down to 50. There isn't any benefit to leveling above 50, assuming you don't need a move and have all EVs covered, correct?

Sorry, I know someone linked to this before, but can anyone show me the link to the event locator? I want to know if there are any VGC qualifiers near me. Thanks!

The locations for the American 2010 tournament have not been released yet; they're expected any day now. The link posted recently was of the 2009 locations. If you live in LA as your location states, then I imagine you'll be fine :).

oh. thanks for clearing that up for me misdreavus. i was beginning to get worried.

Don't take your chances, external devices making Pokemon shiny might screw up the PID or something. RNG Abuse or just breed/catch legit.

Where do regionals/nationals in the US usually go to? I'm all the way in Wisconsin so I doubt I'll be very close, but either way it'd be nice to know.

correction: palkia +kyogre combo is one of the best combos. actually i will say that it is arguably the best (also one of the most obvious)

Nationals has already been announced (because it takes place at the same time/place as the TCG nationals, and the TCG players actually get to know important information several months in advance). They will take place in Indianapolis, IN on June 26-28 (correct me if I'm wrong on the dates, but it's that weekend friday-sunday), so you are actually closer than me ( I live in Minnesota) =/. Unfortunately, I doubt there will be any regionals near here, so the both of us, as well as any other midwesterners will have to travel to the nationals and hope to get in there (provided that they have an open entry like they did last year).
